Great presentation for learning. The voice-over describing the techniques in motion is *such* a superior method to trying to talk through techniques/concepts in piecemeal; and 90% of the time when done that way, the technique never ends up actually being shown as it's meant to be performed in action. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Thank you! I knew I had to innovate if I wanted my channel to go somewhere. I'm glad the format is being so well received. I appreciate the kind words so much. Thank you for watching!
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Not only the voiceover work, but seeing full speed movement in slow motion is super important, because you get to see how things work when there is momentum. Just doing movements slowly oftentimes doesn't work very well for demonstration, because momentum is needed to flow through. Great didactic skills on your channel!
Wow everything covered in this video alone could easily take even an experienced grappler months to digest. I especially appreciated the last 30 seconds of etiquette, not enough people touch on this. Super glad I stumbled across this channel, keep up the great work!
Really enjoy the format in that it focuses on a specific position (such as closed guard) rather than just a specific technique. And showing both gi and no-gi variations is very helpful too. So glad I found this channel. Thank you Jordan and Nikki!
Yeah, very useful (I'm a white belt)! A similar one for side control would be awesome: I cannot understand what I do wrong, both when controlling and when escaping :-)
One more idea for videos (as a white belt): what grips/hooks (and combos) are most important during guard retention and pass, and their counters. Very few videos on the topic, which is probably not very cool but absolutely life or death during sparring, as you've pointed out in several clips 👍
One stripe white belt in Gracie Combatives with military experience in the MAC Program and a former junior college wrestler…I’ve learned more about juijitsu in the past 6 months by watching your videos and attending classes 3x a week, than ever before. Thankful for this awesome channel🦃
The traditional guard (6:48) pass has always been flippin hard for me so stoked when you said the same! The variations you show look far better, thank you!
Three things I’ve learned from your vids that has made a huge difference as a new white belt are hands off the mat, elbows tight and t-Rex arms. Enjoy the channel thx man
This is gold for a noob like me.... makes a lot of the options or back up plans much more clear than a single drill and speaking towards the thinking behind it is eye opening
Wow! I'd been trying to stand up in closed guard and getting double ankle swept nearly everytime and couldn't figure out why until I saw this video. Some of the best content on this stuff on YT. Thanks guys!
I'm new to jiu-jitsu, and your channel is by far my favorite. You're a natural teacher🙂 the work you put into your content creation is also very evident - it's engaging and relatively easy to follow for a newbie like me. Thank you.
I appreciate that a lot!! Thank you. Always means a lot to me when people tell me I'm a good teacher, as well as recognize the effort I put into the content creation :)
Discovered this channel just a few days ago and I think I’ve almost gone thorough all of them! Doesn’t hurt that Nikki is gorgeous too…! Thanks for the content guys!
Thank you mentioning that the first method most taught as the first guard escape is the least or from my perspective the hardest to accomplish. Great video that covered all the bases. Much appreciated.
That São Paulo pass is 1000% worth the price of admission! I just had my 7yo daughter work it on me and she was able to pass my guard with relative ease. 👊🏽
I’m a white belt on the road to blue. I feel like this video touched on so many fundamentals that can go missed in technique-based videos. It really addresses key details. The invisible details of grappling.
Really like how you don’t get caught up in traditional passing techniques. I find many of them impractical against anyone with experience. Your recommended passes are more direct and make more sense to me.
What a great feeling to come back to an old video I watched a while back and see how differently is speaks to me since I've learned more JJ. I'm catching so many details I missed or didn't think mattered at the time 🤙
Thank you so much for that priceless instruction! I'm a recent amputee and new bjj practitioner. I just competed in my first competition and got stuck in my opponents closed guard. That Sao Paulo escape is going to be so useful for me! Thanks again!
This is just the right amount of detail and narrated instruction seems to mirror my actual thought process when live rolling much more than 'breaking it down' with step-by-step instruction. As a white belt a couple of years in, I sometimes get overwhelmed by instructional videos yet really need the instruction. I can't believe this is free. Subscribed!
Just bumping this up for the algorithm! Feels like really useful stuff for a curious beginner like me trying to build a solid base of knowledge on the basics. I really appreciate the level of resolution your videos work at - not just adding moves to a toolbox by teaching a specific technique, but looking at things one concept at a time. Me and my two white belt buddies try to drill basics around a specific topic/position at our own pace once a week, and then spar a bit in the position we've worked on - these videos are a lovely tool among others for coming up with inspiration for those sessions! Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate what you're doing
Our pleasure! Thanks for boosting in the algorithm in your comment. The nicest thing you can do for creators 🙂 Glad you're liking the videos learning from them. Not easy being a beginner in the endless depth of information that is BJJ!
Hey Jordan, having started BJJ only a month ago, your Concept>Technique approach to teaching is something that I am glad to have come by so early in my journey. Super appreciative of the work you and Nikki put into these videos.
I’m a new white belt and your advice to avoid closed guard was huge. I felt like closed guard was a comfortable starting position. “I’m in closed guard, hell yeah, this is Jiu jitsu” Thanks again. Love the videos.
I remember watching this video when it first came out as a white belt and picking up tips and pointers from it. I came back to this vid and it's only reinforced everything I've been learning. Awesome content! Oss
Bro your videos are so so helpful. As a new white belt only having trained for a month, learning the techniques has been great, but sparring has been a nightmare. Your videos are extremely helpful in learning and practicing the fundamentals… even the details of you grabbing the wrist on the same standing leg so they can’t sweep your leg when trying to pass guard. Such simple / basic things that I would have missed if it wasn’t for you. Thank you bro 🤙🏾❤️
Hey man, thank you for such kind and wonderful words! I appreciate them a lot 🙏 I'm happy for you too, it's such a wonderful feeling to figure out how to do something after not knowing what to do for a long time lol. Keep crushing it! 🙂
Your theory course is going to be revolutionary. I actively remember your tips while rolling and it’s a very liberating feeling. I can also recognize immediately when I make a mistake and why someone was able to gain a position on me. Keep it up!
Man this is the best video I've found yet. Trying to assist my daughter as she struggles with closed passing. That part about the basic knee push first taught to students is exactly where she is and unfortunately is where the lessons on passing stopped. She is just 9 and I understand progression but more importantly for is options. She needs options to try at least 2-3 different strategies to help her when her opponent is changing their strategy to keep her in guard. And the tip of either all the up or all the way down is going to help her so much. Thanks and I have subscribed. Gonna sit down on this vid for a few weeks with her. Hopefully get back and update this comment with good news of progression.
Like everyone had said, awesome content! I'm about 7 weeks into this journey and have been going 3x's per week no-gi and along with these awesome instructionals I've made some good progress.
Bro. Love your videos. So easy to follow as a newer white belt. I literally watch your content while working on my grappling dummy right before class, to stay fresh before I get in the BJJ shark tank for class.
That is so kind Sebastian, thank you! We are working really hard and are excited too for what the future holds. So much positive feedback lately, it has been surreal 🙂🙏

Yeah seriously. 4th week of doing jiu Jitsu and trying to get my closed guard game on point. This is my 5th time watching this video

33 year old white belt here. I’ve been training just over a month and I sincerely appreciate you breaking it down Barney style. 🤙🏽 🇺🇸
No problem! So many instructor over complicate BJJ unnecessarily!

Truly excellent instruction. Great angles and descriptions and I love the way you show it over and over but switch from Gi to Nogi and back
Great tips. I really like how you would point out the concept of hip control and tracking.
