Lisa, this is great. We appreciate your work in teaching us how to paint the grass. I like your work with the air brush with the rays of sun. It was very important for you to show us how you build from the back to the front. Less details in the back, more details in the front. Creating the depth was fantastic. Thanks :)
The light blue and dark green background colors that meet in the middle kind of give the illusion of a mountain range way in the distance. Maybe I'm the only one seeing this but its AWESOME!
I love when you paint these more "simple" paintings. This really helps me cause I'm a beginner and I love your work and teaching style. Plus you're so positive.
Hi Lisa, I'm very grateful for your tutorials. Yesterday I finished a fish for beginners, took me two weeks, and plenty of layers but I didn't give up. Now I work on the forest with grass. It's even harder, but I'm not giving up. I have colors from the supermarket so maybe they don't listen to what I want to do :)
Hey, that painting is awsome, even if its just a grass tutorial. I love the atmosphere of you paintings. Thank you very much, your tutorials help me a lot and give me so many ideas!
That was great! Would it be possible for you to do a tutorial on the fur around a big cat's muzzle? That is the area I have most trouble with, how do you get the short white hairs to stand out against each other and not smudge the dark root hairs? This has been driving me mad for years lol
Very solid grass effects. I never thought of the glaze over effect although I used something similar with gloss medium for my abstracts. I have to unlearn all the academic cobwebs on realism. LOL
Hi Lisa, your paintings are great as I've said before. What I would like to know is can you still do rays of light if you don't have a spay gun or translucent white in just white acrylic and a brush. And if so how could I do this. Thank you.
Lisa, do you have any book recommendation that teaches on the lighting etc? I love how you painted this! Gorgeous! Will this work if I used colour pencils too?
I know this is a basic question, but do you do anything special to pre-visualize the depth in the painting? Like 1 or 2 point prospective, or imagine that your canvas is a deep?
Tim Krause Unless I'm painting buildings, no I don't. I just build my depth based on simple concepts like making the things in the distance more out of focus, and less detailed. I also keep the colors in the background more muted, adding contrast as I work forward.
beautiful painting lisa! id love to see that on a huge canvas. its nice to see that youre also doing other things besides animals. i think your animals are amazing, but i wonder if you could add more landscapes and seascapes to your video channel? yes, there are a lot of those type of videos out there, but id really love to see how ''YOU'' tackle that type of work! cheers!
you did a very nice painting i was plan to do some thing just like that on a 12 x 16 canvas bord but i want the ray of sun light to com from the left of the canvas and cabin on the right on the canvas with a river in the paint how does that sound?
Just discovered your videos. Awesome! I can see myself staying up late tonight just to get thru a whole lot of them! You mention using a Transparent Mixing White if you dont have an airbrush. Are you then saying you would mix it thinly with water and paint lines using a ruler / piece of paper or similar to get the same effect of the light coming thru the forest? Also, would you ever use this Transparent White mixed with another colour or just as a glaze?
Lulu Taylor I apply it with a small amount of water and a brush, No rulers or anything. You can mix the transparent mixing white with other colors, but for rays of light I would normally just glaze it alone. Of course it depends on the circumstance and what other colors are in the painting.
Love the video Lisa. Questions; Will acrylic paint flake away from the canvas over time if too much water is used? If yes, will a sealant help prevent this? Lastly is there an option to use in place of water? Thanks in advance Lisa. P.S. Thanks for the caffein buzz haha jk.
Ron Simons The more water you use, the less adhesive the paint becomes. Paint peeling or flaking away doesn't just occur because too much water was used. It takes the combination of several factors including using poor quality paint, poor quality canvas and bad gesso. The gesso and canavs issue I've seen more than anything else. If you're using quality products, you should not have any issue once the painting is varnished. There are glazing mediums that you can use in place of water, but they don't achieve the exact results. I do occasionally use glazing mediums, but not often.
+MegaChrissie61 I have a lot of 1-2 hour long paintings available each week for patreon supporters at www.patreon.com/lachri Only a couple are real time, but they are all a lot slower than what I upload here :)
Hey ur work is amazing!! n ur rly talented :)♡ wut are the art tools u use tho? Can u also do a vid on drawing san rays with colour pencils or smth ? Thkss :D
Lisa! Please reply ASAP! Ok so Polychromos and Prismacolors are MAJORLY discounted at Dick Blick right now! Im a high school student looking to buy some pencils to use for AP Art Projects. My question is, what size set do you think is best depending on the blendability for both brands? I don't want to spend too much money but I also want to have all the colors I'm going to need the most. I am a beginner and I definitely don't need an over 100 pencil set. Basically, which set is going to give me the basic colors I have to have in order to create other colors I may need? I really hope that made sense and PLEASE reply soon!!!!!
I narrowed it down a bit! I know that you like Polychromos better but as far as that goes, I can really only get the 24 set....is that enough? With the Prismas, I can get either the 48 or the 72 but I dont want to get the 72 and not end up needed a lot of the colors......HELP!!
***** I always say get the biggest set that you can afford. I can't really say what's "enough", the more the better for sure :) You can always get a smaller set now and buy individual colors you need later on to slowly build your collection. I personally won't spend money on prismacolor anymore while they're producing defective pencils, but plenty of other artists still use them.
Celia Younger You can buy small airbrush sets fairly inexpensively. Amazon sells sets, complete with compressor, for around 100 bucks. Look for dual action, gravity fed airbrushes.
I have been thinking on something cheap for beginning, you said that in one video that even cheap ones will do the job. Well thank you for respond on my comment, you are awesome ;)
Titanium white is the white you most often see in paint. It is a very opaque color. Some of the others have different tints and are even more translucent depending on the one you choose :)
+Lachri Fine Art OK thank you Mrs.Lisa! (I think that's your name) Your videos have inspired me for painting that I work on. I will try titanium white but for now I have regular white. :)
I was looking at videos on painting and I came across this video which is great and helpful. The painting is awesome, but as soon as the picture was near finished i was shocked at how much it looks like a picture I took several weeks ago... It's almost creepy.... Lol
Am lisa, i did get a lot of idea watch your video and lean something new on what i want to do with my forest painting sorry i can video it still try find a real nice video camera.
Hi Lisa - I love your work but..keep in mind that not all of us have English as a first language. When you put your painting speed too fast and speak even faster, I can't keep up. I have to rewind and rewind several times to make sure I heard correctly. Also it would be great if I could see clearly what brushes you use for what strokes and more importantly, what movement you make to get the right textures. Thank you for all your videos!
Has anyone else noticed that green paint, colored pencils and oil pastels is the worst color to try to work with? Like it just doesn't seem as smooth as the other colors. Especially the oil pastels. Whats up with that?

A simple but beautiful painting from a gifted artist

what kind of airbrush (?) are you using to paint the fog and light ? i went to the store but they have very expensive and large airbrushes.
Celia Younger You can buy small airbrush sets fairly inexpensively. Amazon sells sets, complete with compressor, for around 100 bucks. Look for dual action, gravity fed airbrushes.

freaking cool!
Just wow
Yasmin Raza :D
I must get that airbrush soon!
Mario Novak You won't regret it. I consider it a must have for anyone working in acrylics :D

Titanium white is the white you most often see in paint. It is a very opaque color. Some of the others have different tints and are even more translucent depending on the one you choose :)

Video is very fast. Difficult to catch up with your painting. Sorry. But its great!! Love You 😍

Who is giving this a thumbs down?
2 Thumbs up!
you are so adorable :)
she looks like kari jobe
if you slow the video down to .50 its hilarious
beautiful but being southern I wouldn't mind if you slowed down a bit. :) TFS
+Belinda Wiggins I can't. This is how I naturally speak.
then these southern ears will just have to speed up. haha :)
actually its okay to me but im asian.. normally asians speak quite slow
I suck at painting ='(
+Elijah Paull That just means you need more practice. I used to suck pretty bad myself :)
Thanks Lisa :)
what type of brush did you use?
