I love fireflies, even as an adult! There's nothing better than a hot summer night full of fireflies. When we were kids, my friends and I used to catch them and put them in jars then put them by our bedside tables. It was cool seeing them light up my dark bedroom at night. Then we'd set them free, of course, and do it all over again. Awesome painting!
Beautiful painting Lisa! I miss fireflies so much!! 😔 I grew up in Garland with a creek just a couple of houses down. We had fireflies everywhere. We would spend summer evenings catching and watching them. Granted that was 30 years ago, but I still miss them to this day. They are always magical.
Lisa, this is so well done. You make it look fun and easy. I like the way you worked on each zone and created the feeling of depth using the values of the colors. Your four color pallet works great with this painting. Thank you for using the wide format because it gives the expanse feeling of the grove of trees. Great work again.
Love this painting and I caught fireflies as a child. Would love to see you do slowed down real time tutorials. The depth in this painting is really wonderful.
Great painting! I love the clip showing your friend catch the fire flies. I have never seen them ever and to see that they light up in your hand was amazing....thank you so much for sharing that!
That is a great starter project. Really well done on laying out the different steps. - And those fireflies are magical. I've never seen one for real, but then I grew up in the very north of Sweden and I had midnight sun in the summers and northern lights in the winter, so I'm good on natural wonders.
Love your tutorial as always and the finished piece is beautiful and mystical all at once too. And thank you SO much for the extra footage of you and Jessica catching fireflies Im from Australia and never seen these in real life and it was so amazing to get to see them and in video and not just a photo of them. Video is so much better then a photo! So big thank you to you and Jessica from Australia :)
I love your artwork, and I'm so grateful for all the tips. Thank you for sharing. I'm really glad I stayed till the end to see Jessica catch George and Paco too lol that was really cute!
Omg!!! - I've never seen fireflies before, either! - They're so BRIGHT!!!!! I'm almost 60 years old, and I now have a new project to do.... find some.... And thankyou for this lovely tutorial.
I was waiting for this video since you posted the pic of the painting on facebook and instagram last week! it's simple to paint but it's just so pretty!!! definitely trying to paint this after I am done moving!!! love it and thank you !!! 👌👌👌👌❤❤❤❤
As always your work is stunning. Such a beautiful painting, love the "fireflies" we don't call them that here in Missouri. Like.someone in Michigan, we call them "lightening bugs" they are magical & bring that amazing magic to your painting! LOL
Hi Lisa .I think you should make a video with your favourite paintings , ones that you painted .My favourite of yours have got to be a leopard you made.
a majority of my life I grew up in Attleboro Massachusetts and there are lots of creeks in that area so I got to see fireflies all the time the great thing was my grandmother used to live or still has a house there right next to Lake and the fireflies would come out in like droves so I'd be able to sit in my bedroom window at my grandmother's house I just watched the fireflies just lay on my bed and watching from out my window it was the most amazing thing ever.
If you love watching fireflies, you should come to my home state of Tennessee to watch the synchronization of lighting that they do during their mating season from the end of May to the first week or so of June. In fact, it has been turned into a favorite pass time for people to come to see the synchronization of their lighting during the mating season. It is a beautiful sight to behold! I grew up catching "lightening bugs" (as we called them) when I was a child. We were silly children, so we would catch them and put them in a jar with holes in the lids and some leaves, and set them in our rooms so we could watch them light up as we fell asleep. Unfortunately, they just die off because of that, but we were kids and didn't know any better at the time. I love this time of year, when you can go outside at dusk and see the lightening bugs starting to flash here and there. We don't even have any creeks near by, they have always just been around in our yards lighting up, both at my childhood home and where I live now. I love lightening bugs and my 3 year old grand daughter is now fascinated with them too! We actually lived in a home back in 1996 where there was a tree in the yard next door to us that would fill up with the lightening bugs and they would synchronize their lighting there. It is supposed to be a rare phenomenon to get to see that happen, but it just happened right there in that side yard, and that was actually the first time I was aware that they even did that. Now it is a special event in the Great Smoky Mountain area of Cades Cove, which is less than an hour from where I grew up and live now. www.firefly.org/synchronous-fireflies.html smokymountains.com/park/synchronous-fireflies-smoky-mountains/
Lisa, did you use a reference photo for this painting? It may have been a weird coincidence, but the same day this popped up in my feed, I got an ad for graphic stock photos on facebook... it was of time lapse photography of surreal fireflies in Japan 2016, one was very similar to your painting, with quite a few more fireflies though... beautiful work as always!
I tried this, and it was lots of fun! Thanks for sharing it, and thank goodness for that pause button, lol! =) p.s. I need one of those awesome little airbrushes, too
I wanted to ask a few questions about your Paetron I am sorry if you have already covered this ....I will keep looking....if we are members I know we have access to the new weekly vids but do we also have access to your past ones as well ? Can we just look at 4 a month is there a limit to the vids we can watch ? Thank u so much :)
+Lachr Fine Art can you give me some advice? i havent painted in a long time, i have everything ready i just don't feel like painting and i dont know what to paint Thx , Christian
I notice on all your paintings when you begin, the color goes on so smooth it looks creamy - is that just an awesome canvas? Lol or are your colors mixed with a glazing medium before applying?
I'm from the UK and also viewed them as a sort of mythical creature, that's the first time I have ever seen one! So at least I know for sure they really exist lol
I love your videos! I want to make a huge roaring lion head that looks [realistic], so far I haven't found an instructional video only time lapse ones. Please help me make one, your work is amazing !!!
Once I was sleeping and woke up to see this small bright dot flying around... but then the firefly flew too near to the fan and it died. I swear I felt it hit my foot. Poor thing. There are plenty where I live, but I wish I can see a bunch of 'em together.

Beautiful! Where can I purchase an airbrush? Any recommendations for type/brand?

I love this can you do a flying unicorn please? or a colored pencil feather I can never get my feathers to look real. you are the best!
Hello Lachri, do you use a special eraser to remove the white charcoal pencil or any would do please?
Nice to meet George.

+Shelley Norris I didn't =)
Hi Lisa, I have a question for you : how can I make gouache look more glossy / shiny? I don't like the matte look it has.
What do you add to your paints to keep them wet long enough to use the mop brush?
I tried this, and it was lots of fun! Thanks for sharing it, and thank goodness for that pause button, lol! =) p.s. I need one of those awesome little airbrushes, too

Omg I have never seen them either, we don't have them here in Vancouver BC, wish we did.
How do you erase the charcoal? Do you use a normal rubber eraser?
I like the kneaded erasers best for removing it :)
@@Lachri Ah, ok. Thanks so much for responding to my question!
I live right by a swamp, and we get fireflies sometimes, not too too often (I think cause of all the frogs) but they're fun :)
Hi, Just thought I would give you an update... They now make the transparent mixing white in a basics
I just found that out! I'm so excited!
... and paint ONE LARGE fire fly BOLDLY in the fore front of the picture... with it's black wings & brightly lit up yellow tail !! 😁🪰
I named a firefly Bright Idea, and started drawing him in all my doodles along side my cartoon self.
Once I was sleeping and woke up to see this small bright dot flying around... but then the firefly flew too near to the fan and it died. I swear I felt it hit my foot. Poor thing.
There are plenty where I live, but I wish I can see a bunch of 'em together.
I can not find the real time version.
are you a member over at patreon? It's uploaded there.
could you please send me the url of the real time tutorial. i am unable to find it
Message me through patreon, I can't post it here :)

I just purchased an airbrush set up and cannot wait to give it a go after watching this video.

A painting I might just be able to do lol
NICE PAINTING, But to many fireflies, and air brush is a turn off, want to learn to paint, not use an air brush.........sad.
our dog once had one between her teeth by accident! She ran with her mouth open, having no idea she had a little light bulb in her mouth!
You make this so look so easy hahahaha
I was fixin to say, "You should see how many we have here in Texas," but never mind. lol I leave near a creek too,.
wow you talk fast -thanks for the vid
"grammar its our friend" loll
Lisa... you could paint just one LARGE firefly in the fore front here, with just a little detail for what a firefly actually looks like. 😁🪰
