    nicely done, you could also use this technique for walker bags. I think to prevent fraying, do pinking shears or use my serger. I would also sew around the rounded corners and then cut. Not being critical, I love this idea and after my surgery prayerfully be able to do more sewing in rehab.

      Alanda Craft I just made one today using your instructions and some Egyptian tea towels!! I love that it is reversible. Here are a couple photos of the one I made: drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0By52oGhKT4F-b2hodE1ZVTk4aWc drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0By52oGhKT4F-N0tuSXo5TjZuamM (I hope that works). I wonder how much weight these will hold? I did notice a bit of fraying already on one of the seams on one side so I think I will need to put some fray glue on it and then I'm thinking of hand-stitching a flower (using the remaining handle fabric) to cover it.. Thanks again for this great video! I'm sure I will be making more soon.. they are addictive :)

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  9 лет назад +1

      karebearvan karebearvan Hopefully the fraystop will help. I guess it depends on the type of weave in the tea towel. So far, touch wood, we haven't experienced any problems with fraying. The flower was a great idea, very innovative. Your bag looks terrific. We would love to have you share the photos your bag on our website, so if you would like to share your project for all our readers to see, please click on the following link:- www.alandacraft.com/submit-your-project/

    I never imagined we could get something- (residents of California, in the USA ) need to go shopping with. what a wonderful craft and you had such nice colorful tea towels also. I liked your video and would recommend it to a friend,although most of my friends don't do the computer. They're missing out on so much. are you two ladies long time sewing friends? Who comes up with the most ideas? Love your accent, I enjoy the relaxed presentation that your demonstration has. I have never seen the rounded edge on a tote/shopping bag either, great idea with the plate.Thanks for some new ways to make a shopping bag for us. Thanks both of you! I have subscribed to your videos Bonnie

      Thank you Bonnie. Yes we have friends for many years and we both love our craft.We discuss things over a cup of tea and just brainstorm, so we both come up with ideas. We have an online shop where we sell Brother ScanNCut cutting files and have just started adding quilting patterns. We also have the Alanda Craft Training Academy where we teach others how to master their Brother ScanN Cut and we are currently working on a Beginners Quilting Course.

    Only just discovered you both. Lovely, useful bag. 21:25 Rather than straight cutting and then clipping around curves use PINKING shears which is simpler and works well. Non of the Tea towels I see are this big or even as strong so I expect they are quite expensive. I probably will try to get fabric and cut to size. Limited income and frugal habits. Thanks so much.

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  Год назад

      I like the idea of using the pinking shears 😊. These were actually reasonably priced at the time, and they had been in the cupboard for quite a while. I am also finding that many of the newer tea towels are a lot smaller and not as good quality. Also budget conscious so always on the lookout for a bargain. Have had some success at the local op-shop in the past.

    Very nice tutorial! This will be fun to make with my grand daughter! I love your videos! They are clear for directions & show the perfect amount of how-tos, without skipping things by going too fast or showing too much and getting boring. Spot on!
    I love the idea of using a plate to get the curved edges!
    VERY cute bags! I hope I can find some really bright colored, cute dish towels like the ones you used! Premade bags like this are expensive! These make GREAT Beach bags for surfing moms! Would make a great diaper bag too! ;)
    Do you have a link to some bright tea towels if we can't find cute ones like yours at our local dollar store? GREAT idea! Love it! Maybe my granddaughter will make me one too?

      Thank you Carol. I am so happy you like the tutorial. These bags, apart from being easy to make, are so practical and look great. Maybe you could try Amazon or eBay. I typed 'pretty tea towels into Amazon and there were a few nice ones. Of course the trick is finding ones that don't have a large feature or one way pattern. You two are going to have so much fun finding the right tea towels and making these. :)

      If you do a zipper it needs to be put in before sewing the sides of the bag. I believe the zipper should be 1" on ea side smaller with than the bag.(2" total)

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  5 лет назад +1

      No not really Kristal. It's just the way I was taught as well. There are times when I pin perpendicular as well. But old habits die hard. It depends on what I am pinning at the time.

      You would need to cut the tea towel in half and turn the back part around so that it is facing up the way you want it and then join the two pieces back together. Here is a link to one of our Reader's Projects where she has done this. www.alandacraft.com/2015/10/12/readers-project-pats-three-tea-towel-bag/
