    I didn't stitch through glue with my sewing machine before either. It would gum up my needle and cause it to break. Then I found needles by Klasse that you can sew through glue and stickers. They cost a little more but are so worth it. You may already know this since this was posted a couple of years back. Thanks so much for showing us how to make the laptop case. You're the best ❤

    Why not leave the loop on pot holder and add a big button to the place mat and use that to fasten instead of bothering with cutting loops off and having to add velcro.

    Such a great idea... for a laptop, notebook with paper and pencil/pen or quilt block fabric with a small cutting mat with tools needed. Many more uses, too. Love, love, love it! Enjoyed you thinking process while making this. I think most of us talk to ourselves and work out any glitches. Appreciated that you didn't edit out "oopsies". Cause we all have them. Thank you for sharing your creative side. Blessings to y'all.

    Wonder tape (2 sided tape) works well for holding zipper in place to sew down

  • @Jana-TheCraftyGambler
    @Jana-TheCraftyGambler 3 года назад +5

    Just FYI, when your sewing your zipper on, you can use regular glue to go temp attach it and hit it with an iron and it will adhere the zipper to the placemat so you can sew it on. Just thought I’d share.

    I watched your video today for the first time and loved it, but I hate zippers. I do whatever I can to avoid zippers. I hope you will have many ideas not using zippers. You are an awesome sewing/crafter and someday I hope I can show people how to do things that are beautiful and useful. Thank you so much.

    If you liked the blue, then put one floral side out and one flower side in with blue on outside. It gives you a pocket on the inside.
    Super cute project

    If you will get some of that purple Elmers stick glue and run it along the side and stick the zipper to the edge. it it’ll hold it so you can sew it on and then do the same thing on the side and then finish your project. Then wash it and the glue will be gone.

    just found you! subbed! I enjoyed your project and thought that the black zipper worked just fine! I hadn't thought of putting the handle on the side of my bags, so thanks for that idea! I'm also a visual organizer - if I can't see it, I don't have it. I use my brother label machine and put labels on EVERYTHING. that way i can usually find my stuff. i also use dollar tree baskets - they have handles and that's where i put the labels.

    OMG !! You are a riot. I subbed at 2 minutes. Making videos is so hard. We seem to be on the cat distribution center list. The feral cats have kittens in our shed knowing we’ll bring them in. I live in Virginia, and it’s been in the high 90s and 100s for over a month. I just adopted out 12 kittens and thought we were done. Nope one just had 2 and another is preggers. We are on the waiting list for low cost spay neuter. I called animal control to catch the main kitten daddy to get him neutered. There are three. I can’t. He looks well fed and could be somebody’s pet … sorry to ramble, but I have serious kitten ptsd … but I make journals so started putting up videos to sell. RUclips analytics. No views, no sales to pay at a regular vet. I even did a give away. No takers. But filming is so hard. I’m 67. I love your style. Will back watch videos. I gave up because journal supplies are not cheap, but I’m going to try making kitten rag dolls, and if I ever shut up, I’m going over to Amazon and buying the fabric glue stick. All you do to link is go to Amazon, copy the url, then paste it in the description box. Great video, great channel. Patricia

    Absolutely love you! Like I'm hanging with a girlfriend while she tries to teach me to sew! (I can't use a sewing machine to save my life... I have literally broke every one I used. Home Ec teacher moved me back to woodshop to save the rest of her machines. True story, the boys were so mad!)
    Anyways, you are fun! Thanks for this video! Makes me really wanna try to sew again!
    As for the handle on the side, but the zipper and pocket openings on the top... I'm guessing you could have found a way to just make the bag sideways, right? Then the zipper could be shorter one? I dunno.
    But I really like using such pretty placemats which are already quilted, therefore already perfect for a laptop! Smart!

    • @JoannasDIYLife
      @JoannasDIYLife  3 года назад +2

      Awww bless your heart. Practice, practice, practice! As for the handle I could have put it on the top but I chose the end and the long zipper is perfect for sliding the laptop in.

      Enjoyed watching Nanny making the computer carrying case out of place mats. She is such a sincere person. What a great idea!
