- This short but jovial clip F 664 shows the various skills required for successful close and hand-to-hand combat.
In the 70s, more concrete training programs were mandated by the Division of Training, thus justifying the existence of this film.
One can argue that although relevant, these techniques would be difficult to perform with a full combat loadout.

Its like watching a compilation of 70s and early 80s action movies
After the KGB got hold of this training film they reduced their close combat manual to "just pull the enemy's hair to trigger immediate ground rolling"
Lols!!!!!
Lolzz
haha. the reason they don't have soldier haircut is the fact, that the swiss army is a militia, a citizen army. after basic training every man had to regularly 3 weeks repetition courses in the army. so everyone comes from his cilive life, his job to the army service and goes back to civil life. thats why rules were not so harsh for hair.
Please keep these coming, Dale, wonderful history lessons.
I've been to Switzerland 2x and on the 2nd trip had the good fortune to be in an area where they were on training maneuvers and war games, so your presentations bring back fond memories of a wonderful country and it's skilled military, seeing armor drive up the mountain road past the house, hearing artillery and small arms...all in all midst of alpen life...much different from here in the US. Thanks again for all your presentations!
That shovel technique was, "interesting"
to be frank, i was a bit embarrassed
Lols.
At close quarters, a rifle with attached bayonet is a formidable weapon. With some training, it is an extremely efficient tool for slashing, stabbing, crushing and deflecting.
We Nepali people prefer to use a Khukuri.
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 A splendid weapon, most definitely.
I Served in the Swiss army at exactly this base. I can confirm 50 years later it looks the same
Which base is it?
Systema suizo, muy bien, saludos de Arica chile.
Thanks! love the "judo chops" throughout.
From what I can tell, a Stgw 57 is the better rifle for beating on somebody than an M16A1. It just has so much more mass!
Yup. That thing is just brutal. My dad told me they trained to beat holes into brick walls with their rifles. If thtat thing hits you, you're out for good.
I mean, yeah. The rubber stock isn't necessarily the best for the job though.
@@walangchahangyelingden8252 well technically yes, but having handled those rifles I can tell you that the rubbery quality of the buttstock only really shows on slowmo when firing rifle grenades.
It is nothing like the rubber buttpad of a modern rifle.
@@ABCKorpi Oh shit, I thought wrong.
Yes, using a StGw 57 like a Morgenstern was a very tried and popular technic back then (RS 221/1988)
Many examples of adapted aikido/judo falls/throws/strikes and locks here. Absolute commitment from the attackers helps. Y
indeed, that said aikido/jiu-jitsu locks are extremely effective if done well and non-lethal. the rolling is actually extremely useful in ranged or close combat, being able to go to ground and back up instantly if thrown, falling with reduced impact or moving fast while staying low
You can commit once you trust your opponent.
It also works the other way round.
It has a very Debbie Does Dallas tone...but in french and camouflage...mon dieu Monsieur Ding!
I love the homage to Led Zeppelin’s “Bring It On Home” at about 2:35. 😄
This is awesome!
Love it - especially the choreographed bits to a sound track by ?Focus?
I have one of this jackets, it's is just the best one I had, I often travel with it carrying clothes, stuff, food, and even a tent...
P.s. it even had 'hooks' that connect to a quasi backpack and a hood that had a camouflage fabric face cover .
Awseome Dale nice video.
That was the age when people thought karate chops will magically put people down :-) But to be fair, I don't know if there is any way one could realistically train hand to hand combat without killing each other.
A cricket box would help, slightly.
I was taught to get my arm on the ground before my body if I was being thrown there. However you might come up against someone who knows how to use the momentum of his body flying through the air to put you down instead.
I think wrestling / grappling and boxing would be more useful, and they can be trained realistically.
@@kukuyeah I like those arts, but I would still say that they can only be trained somewhat realistically. In combat, you won't be wearing boxing gloves and in training you don't want to break bones, dislocate joints, hurt the eyes etc. Also, in hand to hand combat, you would use any weapon or thing that can help you, and this again can't be trained realistically, only with heavy protection gear.
Yeah, it would be fun to watch someone trying to do this with a full loadout
@@DaletheStgwDude And I thought my phone hurts.
@@DaletheStgwDude well, in the russian military there is a very old joke that can be roughly translated as "In order to engage in hand-to-hand combat, a soldier must lose his rifle, grenades, bayonet, shovel, body armour and helmet and then find a flat piece of open ground with a similarly idiotic enemy standing there"
@@Temeluchas 🤣🤣🤣🤣 👍
Awesome soundtrack, makes me want to drink red wine and eat fondue
@@DaletheStgwDude awesome, mate,I’ll give it a try!I loved the Zeppelin esk riffs on the soundtrack!lol, hope Switzerland is weathering this pandemic ok :)
@@DaletheStgwDude not too bad,I’m in New Zealand ,up in the mountains, pretty good place to be :)
Swiss-jitsu
Swiss-asutra ;-)
Cheesejitsu
Esta buena esa,jejejeje.
Apparently "emo-style" haircuts and sideburns are allowed by suiss army grooming policy.
For his annual three-week rehearsal course (WK or CR), the soldier does not necessarily want to shave his head like a recruit
POLICE THAT MOUSTACHE!
That 1914-18 shovel didn't age at all !
Molto interessante.
Comme dit l'éternel principe: c'est dans les bonnes vieilles gamelles qu'on fait la meilleure soupe !
At first glance they were brilliantly....Acted. No resistance, no deliberation.
Can you elaborate? :)
Something tells me the rubber butt was amongst the least effective bludgeoning instruments found within a 70's Swiss soldier's kit
It's incredibly heavy and the rubber buttstock won't stop all that weight from smacking you hard. The entrenching tool is the only other bludgeon that compares afaik.
What seems curious is that swiss soldiers are quite long haired.
I can only imagine how terribly wrong things must have gone when you are doing hand to hand combat against invading troops.
Судя по видео...подготовка на троечку!!Нейтральная страна...вне всяких блоков...им и так сойдет!!!
With a bit of Led Zeppelin in the soundtrack.
Death by Klappspaten 😂
C'est pas très gentil tout ça. 🤔
They’ll die in real life.
Swiss abd Army in one sentecne...you people better stick to chocolate making and getting money from tax evaders
