      I was born and raised in Taichung for 30 years and I have been living in Taipei since five years ago for job transfer. From my perspective, not only the weather but also the local snacks in Taichung are WAY MUCH BETTER than those in Taipei for the more affordable prices, the more diversity, and the higher quality

    • @yuanyuanintaiwan
      @yuanyuanintaiwan 3 года назад +9

      @@royok915 makes sense! what I don't understand is the fact that 300 years ago, the "capital" of Taiwan was Tainan. One day, some high rank people discussed and decided "hey, how about we go North where it rains all the time and make it the capital? Sounds like a great idea!!" 🤣🤣🤣

    • @LaurensvanRooijen
      @LaurensvanRooijen 3 года назад +7

      @@yuanyuanintaiwan The switch from Tainan to Taipei was a gradual one, stoked by the politics of the late 19th century. The settling of Western trade companies in Damsui and Kenting made for a first big push towards Taipei, and the Japanese era pretty much cemented its role as the new economic and administrative capital. When Japan took over in 1895, they came in via Keelung and chose for Taipei as their capital.
      Tainan continues to be Taiwan's cultural and spiritual capital, however.
      As a foreigner who only speaks about 25 words of Mandarin and who's been visiting Taiwan regularly since 2008 for my job, the thing that makes Taipei stand out is the convenience to get along without speaking a bit of Mandarin. From the roads to the MRT to most restaurants, getting along in English works perfectly. Both Tainan and Taichung are way more complicated in this regards, with Kaohsiung wedged somewhere in between.

    I actually have been to Taipei twice, Taichung and Tainan. I think each of the cities have something very unique. Taipei has big city vibe where you can feel what Taiwan really is if you have short time there. Taichung for me was like a real Taiwanese city where people live their lives which gives real experience. In Tainan I had full 4 days with a local and that is a place to see real culture and heritage :) I am really jealous that you can live in this amazing country. Cheers guys!

    Something which I noticed about Taipei/Taiwan that nobody mentions much, but I think you hinted at in this video, is the amount of green plants that people keep outside their windows or doorways - walking in Taipei this is particularly even more prevalent and it makes it feel like I am walking in an urban jungle, but not the concrete kind, a jungle, in an urban environment. I love it as it means I can be in a super convenient, exciting city without missing the beauty of nature.
    I don't live in Taipei but I visited and this is how I felt. I miss Taiwan so much.

    但,如果不是工作上的必要,台灣其實都差不了多少
    你有機車,家附近有7-11,每個小鎮也都會有夜巿和連鎖餐館.
    台北只是讓你住的貴一點,吃的貴一點,沒有什麼差別
    台北有郊區登山小步道,你住的台中更多,大坑有1~10號的步道,
    東勢進去還有谷關七雄1500~2500的登山步道和大雪山沿線的3~4高海拔登山步道,

    I was born and raised in Taipei, thanks to my parents, I don't need to worry about the rent. I like that Taichung has better weather, less typhoon, easy to get access to north or south, while Kaoshiung or Tainan has lower rent and bigger space, more delicious food and cost. Taipei has something invincible: more activities (especially like cultural or concerts.), more hospital, better city transporatation system, better water, fine air compares to other cities. I guess every place has its own advantages and disadvantages, it depends on what do you think the most important, and maybe the most important, who are there.

Though I like Taichung and many other cities, life styles over there are more of laid-back and more focus on having an easy, nicer life to yourselves. Whereas Taipei, being the capital of Taiwan, is more focusing and driven on developing the city and competing with other Asis major cities such as Singapore, Tokyo, Shanghai. So are you up for the challenges, even the super high rent, Prozzie?

    I think it depends if you're single or not and if you pay local rates, and how close to the flashy regions of Taipei you are. My friend pays about $200 for a room and a bathroom in Taipei, but it's about 4x4m more near the outskirts. Another person I knew had a 2 bedroom apartment in Jingmei for about $500 a month. My friend with the $200 room is Taiwanese, and is originally from Kaohsiung. $500 apartment somehow got a local-ish rate as a foreigner. That said, I've heard of people getting houses with a yard for $300 in other cities. So in other cities just having a house of your own is fairly easy as a foreigner but in Taipei it's not. As a local it's worse due to usually worse salaries. I think due to the availability of those super small (and sometimes illegal) apartments, it's fairly easy to live and work in Taipei if you're single, even on local wages at McDonalds or something (relative to the West) but if you want a family and a middle class lifestyle you need a lot more cash.
    Even Hsinchu and Taoyuan cost a lot now for housing, due to being commuter cities to Taipei, it's probably worse to live in those places as they're still expensive but you need to spend an hour commuting to Taipei every morning.

    I think Taichung is a good city. Maybe after retiring, I will live there and enjoy a leisurely life. But Taipei has more resources and convenience. That‘s why people want to spend more money and endure less space in exchange for more opportunities, and maybe also like to give children a better education. Another point you know some people think. Born in Rome that live in Rome.

    If you want to experience the ostentatious luxury lifestyle of East Asia, Taipei is the place in Taiwan to have that, And of course at a cost
    But Taichung is not falling behind
    Their planed “qiqi” 七期 district (around the opera house) is the most mindblowing skyline of Taiwan
    Gorgeous area very well design urban space
    and Taichung in general is more “livable” than taipei if you compare the infrastructure of buildings and parks in a general way
    Taipei is the Capital of Taiwan
    And Taichung has overtaken from Kaohsiung the “Anti-Capital” status
    Now there is a group of business people, civilians and politicians who wants Taichung to be the Capital of Taiwan
    Hahaha

    • @StephanosBlack
      @StephanosBlack 3 года назад

      @@Prozzie Haha, that's fair. I don't mean to be overly critical. Maybe you could title it: "Taipei is the most modern city in Taiwan (and that's why I wouldn't live here)," or something along those lines. I think calling the rest of Taiwan "trash" is a bit harsh. I've certainly never felt like the nicer areas of Kaohsiung, Taichung, Hsinchu, or Tainan are "trashy." I also like the shabbier characteristics of parts of those cities, and they exist in Taipei as well. Check out the Myanmar street (Huaxin) sometime, or the streets around Dadaocheng

    我是住高雄的金門人,大學去台北讀書+工作了6年,我去年搬回高雄~
    我覺得台北沒有我想像中的先進,而且城市老舊,空污嚴重,天空感覺就是一層灰,單行道太多,路很小,東西難吃,而且大多數人都是外地人,大多數人都是待個5~6年就離開了~
    真正的在地台北人很少,物價高房租貴,捷運雖然方便但都是繞遠路居多~
    我之前在木柵讀書同學約我去新店玩,我就搭捷運搭到新店站快2小時...,後來才知道木柵隔壁就是新店搭公車才十分鐘,北捷真的方便嗎?我有所保留~
    我住過台灣很多縣市 金門 桃園 高雄 屏東 台南 台中 台北 新北 ,比較下來我真的不覺得台北有比較好,我反而覺得桃園 台中 高雄 甚至旁邊的新北我都覺得比台北好~
    主要我是金門人,我喜歡有海的地方 ,然後我家是移居北高仁武的新住宅區,我喜歡新的建築新房子 ,夜生活不是只有夜店的夜生活,是晚上有很多玩跟吃飯的地方,然後多元化的社區,北高雄就很多外國人,我本身是混血兒,北高住宅區很多移民台灣的外國人,我國高中的同學很多都是新住民 新二代 在台工作外籍人士的子女,這樣的同學台北很少,主要都是僑生或外國交換生外國學生為主,很少是全家移民台灣的學生以上是我個人的觀點~

For example, Taichung also has a lot of natural beauties which are hardly seen in any of your videos.
