The locals are really helpful. My wife and I experienced this when we were silently monitoring(embarrassed on our naivety) our bus route through Google maps. A local pointed out the proper bus stop to IMM shopping centre because our pin on the map was wrong. We got off just in time thanks to her. Her approach at a quick glance might come off rude because it was sudden plus the simple and straight to the point English. But we knew her intentions were good and thanked her. Really love to come back again.

I just got back from my first trip (yesterday) and spent a week there.
$1200 for the flight from LAX, around $750 for the hotel, and another $1000 (between two people) for food, activities, and souvenirs.

The thing about Singapore is that prices vary more widely than some other places e.g. Starbucks coffee can cost almost S$7/US$5, about the same in Western countries (but we probably earn less, so when I was in university we only bought drinks there during 1 for 1 promotions) but you also can find traditional coffee shop coffee for 1/3 of that price (though I heard some Westerners find the latter too oily/sweet as its coffee beans may be roasted in sugar/butter)

We were there in July and LOVED Singapore..sadly 6 days was not enough! Suggestion is to research first because the place is not really that expensive if you know how to get around (train and buses) Singapore you will know that it is really not that expensive - THANKFUL FOR HAWKERS! Wow... I don't get why she made that video. I paid around 900 euros for my flights France to SG. I paid around 900 euros for 10 nights at my hotel in Outram Park. I had a small room, a bathroom but no kitchen, will take a better room next time. I did not pay a lot for the subway, it was honestly cheap. Many activities such as parks or walking in the streets are free. And I never paid 80 dollars for a meal... So weird to post that !
By the way, I think that London is more expensive than SG. I booked a two days trip with a friend and it's crazy expensive !!!
EDIT : SG has museums ! Peranakan museum, National Museum of SG. Those places are culture places. Not as South Korea or Japan, yes, but still ! I'm very shocked people saying there's nothing to see in SG.

To have a speedy food ordered with minimal questions asked by hawkers, questions you ask yourself:" eat here or packet? $3 or $4 or $5?( this means the different portion size) how you want your food to be cooked?(chilli or not?no veggies? Etc)" please observe the crowd. If you see the staff walking very fast or even run, they are not in the mood for chit chat and small talk. Unless you usually have lunch or dinner at 3pm or 5pm(3pm-5pm is the time where it is very chill and staff is doing preparation work for dinner service or having their lunch break/dinner break.

Hello the problem is that the videos come from spoilt kids, who regards themselves to be world travelers . I am from Europe and now live in a Thai area in Thailand. I say Europe as I have travel and lived in many countries of the world more than my home country. Traveling is amazing as you experience life and culture in many different countries and debunk the media crap you see in the news. In real life you are going to met different people who like you have moods both good & bad, busy working etc, So you cannot take a single experience and say that's the whole country. I find most tourist do not prepare themselves both physical and mentally for travel ... I see this in Thailand everyday .. I have been to Singapore it's amazing country, with so many experiences to embrace.. In Bangkok & Singapore like most major city's you can pay a premium to stay in the best hotels but you can find cheaper places if you research and most of the times better .. Case in point i pay 3,500 each mth for everything, where a beach condo i can clearly see from my window less than a km away can pay up 40,000 baht just for the rent and they live in a skyscraper ...
I don't pay that kind money for 2 months of my totally living expensive and live very well. Travel is great and very educational, the more you educated yourself the better your travel experience will be.

I guess some of these TikTokers were just trying to show off how much they can effort to spend for their holidays. But instead it is a reflection of how irresponsible they were to their own pockets, and poor planner for their holidays. Another point is some travelers “hopping” but disappointed when they realized most service-providers in Singapore are not “just another Asian” who look up to them when serving them. I am not saying our service providers are right, but unfortunately most service-providers in Singapore don’t “bend their backs” when serving customers. For instant, where else do you see hawkers can have the choice to open only on selected days, or even selected hours?

    • @lstan6794
      @lstan6794 2 месяца назад +1

Most of the hawkers are family run businesses. They spend a few hours preparing the ingredients before opening for the day. Their manpower resources usually allow them to only open for 2 mealtimes like breakfast and lunch, or lunch and dinner, but not the whole day from morning till evening. Weekends are usually their busiest day, so they take their break on weekdays instead. The good thing is that not all the hawkers choose the same weekday for their break, so there will always be stalls that are open whichever day you visit.

The RUclipsrs and Tiktokers who say this are novices. I have been there. Cost of living is high no doubt. But, you can definitely find something within your budget in terms of food, accomodation and travel if you chose to research. There's something for everyone. The US, UK and Paris can be expensive as well. Going to Disneyland is expensive. Same thing in Singapore. The people who came were naive to think that Singapore is a third world country and should be priced and treated that way. Well, you are wrong. You are not going to find 5 star hotels in Singapore priced at motel rates in the US

Great video! I am an Australian, who loves Singapore and I get quite angry with these people who try to make out they know everything about a place after a few days. In all my trips, I have never had a rude taxi driver, or a rude person anywhere! I think Singaporeans are busy, yes, but also reserved in their manner. And, culture and history is there, if you have the interest to look for it outside of the "must do's" that tourists seem to always want. I will be back very soon and can't wait ... cheers

We live in the United States and will be traveling to Singapore for the third time next year. We love Singapore and agree with everything in this video. We stay in mid level hotels near the MRT lines and enjoy the hawker centers for the BEST food. We love the zoos and the botanical gardens. We love how safe and clean everything is there; a nice relief from the West Coast USA madness in the big cities here. We have found Singaporians to be quite friendly, as long as you read the room and make conversation when it is appropriate (not in the middle of a long hawker stall line!). Thank you for this video!

So sorry we don’t have mountains and waterfalls and canyons and woods . But if we do we would truly be the greatest place on earth . Saying there’s nothing to do and no nature is nick picking on a city state. It’s like saying a person is ugly and therefore she or he should not dress up. There are so many sides to a person and similarly , there are so many attributes to a country with no natural resources. Look deeper in how hard we work to survive and make our little country as interesting as possible given our limitations. Learn to appreciate a truly harmonious multi cultural society. What does the guy mean there’s no culture here? We have so many different cultures. Very short sighted traveller. Has he visited our many museums and different neighbourhoods like Little India and China town ? People should appreciate history when visiting a place and from there you will perceive its culture.

If people research a bit, Singapore is much more affordable. Grab or taxi here is cheaper than Uber in the west. Foods which are not high end western or end Japanese are actually very cheap, $20 for a very good meal in a mall or $10 at hawker center. The number of food choices is almost infinite. Hotel and activities are more expensive depending on the type and area.

Just spent a week on Singapore this December and was not disappointed. The public transport itself is a tourist destination. I rode all the MRT lines multiple times a day and explored the bus lines through Google Maps and Bus Router(website). I'm awestruct of this IT marvel! The static and live data is seamless!
I could also eat all I want without gaining weight because it takes a lot of walking to see everything.
Only thing that the disappointed me is the price of electronics. It was not cheap compared to my country. But it's an insignificant thing to be disappointed.
I'd love to visit again and do a biking tour. I was not able to do so because I lacked enough research and afraid I'd be committing a crime like traffic rules and offend the locals. I would love see you cover the do's and don'ts when riding bikes in Singapore.

The easiest form of biking tour in SG is to stick to the special roadways we have called the park-connectors. These are exclusive for pedestrian & cyclists so definitely less stressful than riding alongside cars. There are a few rental spots you could pick from that also offers A-to-B return service. Perhaps this would interest you for next time :)

@dashingheights "Park connectors", I'll keep that word in mind.
I kept on observing the locals how they practice riding. I saw some local teenagers riding their bikes on the highway in a single file in the outermost lane. Then one time at a park, someone rode his bike down on an easy flight of stairs. Some personal bikes don't even have locks. Where rental bikes can be left. The list goes on. In Singapore it feels to me that all you have to do is get in the public transportation system and go roam. The place is safe, the food is safe, there are beaches somewhere and they speak English. Sure it is hot and humid. Ever been to friking Miami? You can get a killer cold for transitioning from street heat to indoors A/C.

Singapore is definitely cheaper than Switzerland. Transport n food the 2 essentials for living are way 3 times cheaper. One can get food for as low as $3 but in Switzerland its $10 up.

Not just Switzerland, the whole of Europe is expensive except Eastern Europe. My son did his Uni in Germany and he traveled the whole of Europe. He said every simple meal cost him about $20 sgd, even for a simple breakfast. You cannot find a plate of rice or noodles at our hawker centre price at $5-6 just to fill up your tummy for a single meal. He missed our SG food options and the prices here. When he returned, he didn’t want to eat any food that’s European or Western. 😅

If expensive don't come. Just like if a stuff is expensive you won't buy. Simple as that. Nobody is forced to visit Singapore.

Hahah yeah in SG even the taxes are inclusive in most of the pricing so approximating busget isnt so hard

10:47= "He made me put the luggage in the car.."- I think she got mixed up between a porter & a cabby. If a driver offers to load/unload the luggage, it's a bonus. The title (driver) itself clearly says it all.

One thing I do agree about the travel videos though, our service can be quite curt as compared to other countries. We Singaporeans are always rushing here and there and I find that also impacts how friendly we appear to foreigners. Comes from our hyper fast pace of living.

Even if u go cafe and restaurant every meal also won't hit $300 per day. $100 maybe. For decent luxury meals, not including hawker.
The last one is ridiculous. Stay at MBS and complain expensive. We so small... How u get natural substance? Then agn... maybe she didn't go Clementi Forest or Rail corridor. Not the most impressive but... that will be different than the ones in her clip which are just within marina bay. Plus resort to? Some people come sg just for our hawker food! Some food will ALWAYS be better than those you find in restaurants. Those in restaurants are just placed with expensive seafood or beef. The authentic taste are mostly in hawker centres. 🤦

Stay in 5 star hotels and expect to pay budget hotel prices? Travel in limosines and expect to pay bicycle riding prices ? Where do these aliens come from. Just show their low end mentality.

I am from JB, and I grew up partially in Singapore and I've lived in KL and my family is from Penang but I live in Germany and Europe now. And i always promote Singapore to people but it was very weird. Every westerner I've met don't like Singapore. They almost always skip Malaysia but they all love Thailand and Indonesia or Vietnam.
TLDR, the Americans and Brits have told me they would often say "Hi, how are you? What would you recommend?" and get yelled at. tbh that's because in Europe, people only eat in dine in restaurants. Unless you're in Italy or Spain.
So I believe, in Singapore, if you went to a dine in restaurant, like Hard Rock Cafe for example. And I say" Hi, how are you? What would you recommend? ". The waiter/ess would be nice as well.
If you go to budget eats in Kuala Lumpur or street food in Europe and say stuff like this. They won't necessarily yelled at you but it will definitely throw them off. Like dafuq?
But I also think because of the extremely high living standard of Singapore.

hahahah yea in SG it's not the norm to have this kind of small talk. I also got shocked when strangers come up to me when I am overseas
