- 2023 Ford Ranger !
I was invited down to Melbourne by Ford AUSTRALIA for the Next Gen Ranger launch.
I spent two days getting to know the vehicle and understanding all its new features. The V6 is just AWESOME ! Having the bigger engine just brings ranger up to a whole new level.
I have more videos coming out shortly but these are just my first impressions.

👍👍 thanks for showing this Mate .
thank you for that, Im waiting on my wildtrak and can't bloody wait!!! love the review and looks unreal
Great review, I am now even more excited, ordered a Wildtrak a week ago. 😛
Yes mate so good to see you invited by Ford. Well done mate. I was really looking forward to your review. 🤙. I have so many questions about it but I’ll wait till your other vids.
Fantastic review!!!!
Thanks for all the information
Awesome review. Loved it. Filled in a lot of holes especially with the offroad focus. I had a test drive a couple of days ago. Only 15min and onroad but this is an incredible truck. I cannot wait for the GVM increase and duel battery mods to be released so the full ARB range will be available. Definitely will be looking to place order. Ford really have thought about this truck and its features. Lets hope the reliability improves also.
Good breakdown bro, very informative
Quick question can you put a lift kit in this vehicle that will accommodate 35" tiers with out mortgaging the house or is it still going to be limited to 2" and 33s
Hey Ty, really appreciated the video. Have seen a few other reviews but yours covers stuff that is way more meaningful for 4WD type users and those looking to tow. Am looking to get a Wildtrak soon so will catch up with you in Newy.
Cheers mate ! Hopefully Ford will give me a V6 wildtrak for a while so I can do a heap of videos with it 😁🤙🏼
Awesome review, excellent explanation of the new features. The V6 looked like it didn’t break a sweat. I’ve ordered a wildtrak V6 with the premium pack & just cannot wait for it to arrive. People are complaining about the price, however you get a whole lot of car, refinement & cutting edge tech for the money. No complaints here 👍
Yeah it’s hands down best value Ute on the market for what you get 😎👍🏼
Thanks for the review Ty. Will ARB be offering a 2" lift? I only see BP51s listed on there website. Any suggestions for essential modifications for 4x4 and touring?
BP51’s are a 2” I’m 90% sure. Honestly there such a good Ute it’s up to you what you want to do. They would almost go any where stock aside from bumper heights etc.
Good review, do a review on the upgraded sound system too, cheers
A very good review which helps a lot. If you're towing then the V6. But the Bi-Turbo may suit most people.
Bi turbo engine is shit
An extra 4k will be worth it for resell value
Very handsome design, really liking the new designs on trucks that Ford is putting out.
It’s a good looking rig !
i actualyy want to see this after seeing a few of them getting around now 📹🛻😎🤙
Great review Ty👍🏼
Cheers matty 🤙🏼
Can't wait for this
You mentioned rated recovery points, but did not say the actual rating. Likewise, the rated tie rails on top of the tub, what are they rated to? At what speed does the diff lock disengage, because I noticed you driving at 32 km/h with the lock on? Not required at that speed! The aux switches are well and good, but where do you connect in to them? Under the bonnett? For low range work, what gears can you manually select for moving off? I mean, if I select low 3rd, does it allow me to move off and hold that gear? You are right in saying you need more time in the seat, because there are just so many unanswered questions.........
Yeah there’s still so many questions I know. It would take 3 hour long video for all of that but I am going further in depth in another video next week 😎👍🏼
Awesome vid mate, can’t wait until you get your hands on that raptor
Cheers cookie 👍
Glad you liked it mate, appreciate the support 😆👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Nice review Ty. There's just one thing I feel that may be problematic. That roller shutter at the rear, how tuff is it?. I can envisage problems with it bending when someone puts a load on it like a couple of swags or something and going over pot-holes/corrugations as this adds a dynamic load to it. I don't know, I may be wrong, I haven't seen it in the flesh, can a load be put on it and how much?.
Mate it feels solid, it might have a load rating il need to dig and find if it does il let ya know 👍🏼
With the emphasis on better towing and associated features, I have not heard any mention of caravan reverse camera integration.....any info on this??
Il see if I can find that out Darrin
@@TyFenwick cheers man....appreciate it...sales guys know sfa.....
Thanks Ty - great initial review. I’m interested in any other view on the Goodyears that come with the WT; good enough to live with you reckon? I think a few will be thinking about whether to keep or swap out. Be good too, if you get more time to look at the ARB gear and how well integrated or not it is. Thinking specifically bull bar and under body protection. Thanks.
I couldn’t believe how good the Bridgestone were, both Tyres I was impressed with. You could absolutely run them till they wear out, very capable tyres with the drive line tech the ranger has 👍🏼
Great review, very informative. Thank you.
Thanks David, I was up till 3AM editing that last night my brains dead today 😂😂😂
@@TyFenwick Thank you for all your hard work and effort.
A well thought out and produced video.
Yours was one the first reviews out there , you got the drop on others 👍
I’m a bit concerned about the low hanging dpf pipe and the under body fuel filter on the chasis rail. Seems like bad placement for an off roader? I know aftermarket bash guards will fix that but still.
Thank you
Hi Ty, Great Video mate. Thinking between V6 WIldtrak with BP51 VS Raptor? Which one would be better suited for touring/ offroad? I am thinking that the Raptor suspension will be compromised with a bull bar and a winch at the front and may not work as well as the Wildtrack with the BP51? You are probably best person to ask this question. Cheers
Raptor is badass but for a weight carrying tourer the wildtrak would be the go mate 👍🏼
nice review mate
all looks pretty awesome.. can you open the ute top in another place than inside the tub?
I think you can do it from inside also, il need to double check 🤙🏼
@@TyFenwick yeah cool I was thinking if you had a heap of stuff in the back it might not be so easy to reach
How many kilometers per liter on this V6 diesel
Does Ranger V6 have low range box? Or Just The first gear simulates low range (similar tô Amarok v6?)
A great review.
They look the ducks nuts mate, if i win lotto tonite I'll buy one lol.. thanks for the video..
The question that every ranger fan wants to know. Will it tow my JetSki?
Yes 😂
What is the bar on the top of the dashboard for
Hey Ty, I noticed you had passengers in the car off road, I'm really interested to know how your passengers felt off road especially the rear passenger?
Being a driver we have the wheel and everything around us that ground us but passengers only have the grab handles.
I noticed the bloke in the back was sitting centre, so no grab handles , did you get feedback?
Jase
Yeah mate they said the ride was comfortable, I spent sometime in the passenger seat and also in the back. The seats in the back are way nicer then previous generation
@@TyFenwick much appreciated mate, I get into a lot of reviews and not a lot of people talk about passenger ride comfort, so appreciated you taking the time to ask them and answer my question.
Hi mate.
Thanks for vid.
I’ve ordered a Wildtrak V6 with premium pack…..prepared to wait. ⏰
With the 50mm wider track do you know how that’s created because i believe the wheel offset is still 55p but keen to know if Methods like you had on your Raptor (and I had on mine) will fit with 35p offset so bigger runner can still be kept to minimal/no poke.
Can't wait for the Raptor variant :) FYI - My 2017 Everest with 140k on the OD has outlasted my mates 2018 Fortuna that has been in the shop twice for oil leaks :) It'll be interesting if Ford continues with the reliability on the new models. We'll have to see I guess.
Ford it bringing there A game to Toyota now 🤙🏼
@@TyFenwick I agree. I actually believe the Ranger and Ford Aus in general have been bringing the A game for the last half decade. People will buy Toyota blindly because of it's history in being a mostly reliable brand but Toyota has been struggling with reliability issues internationally on a few of their models and people have been looking elsewhere. I suppose it's why the Ranger has been swapping 1st place with the Hilux over the last few years in sales numbers
@@reelmm3311 Wow, you owned a Ranger and a BT50? and both had engine problems? I smell shyt talking.
@@Deatomizer My ranger and parents Bt 👍
@@reelmm3311 Now I know you're full of bs.. whatever fanboy
Does the XLT have the front camera while driving ? I thought it was just the Sport and Wildtrak
Check fords website but the XLT did that I had 👍🏼
Interesting on their website it says Sport and Wildtrak have that function
Great Vid Ty. Did you notice what size tyres it comes with? Steve
Unfortunately I had so much information thrown at me I didn’t look 😂 I’m doing another video on ranger next week after 4wd show in sydney 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@TyFenwick Goodyear Wrangler Territory ATS 255/65R18
Nice one Ty can't wait to see the new raptor though. 👍
Me to Phil it’s going to be a weapon !!!
I will be ordering my wildtrak in 2 months
Good choice 👍🏼
@@TyFenwick Very easy when you stop and really look at the market. The price while not cheap is not exorbitant when you look at a Rugged X or the new Mazda etc.
The Ranger looks, rides , preforms, and has the best tech and more practicality than any of the competitors. My present car is a Wildtrak X bi turbo after testing every serious competitor it was a clear choice.
Never had any issues brilliant customer follow up and care, and all these stories of horror, from people on line I can only assume are form those who have never owned one.
Thanks for the great video without the fluff and what your focus is, mine is for a tow vehicle.
Put $500 deposit now mate, the wait times are huge long and don't need to pay more untill it comes in
50mm wider. 50mm longer wheel base, how is the LOA. Compared to the PX3?
No bonnet struts, back to using a stick?
Hey Paul,
LOA ?
Yeah no bonnet struts unfortunately but $30 kit off eBay will sort that.
@@TyFenwick Length Over All. Is it also 50mm longer than the PX3?
What's the tire size of that rnger wildtrak v6???
How does the tech compare to your f250?
It’s weird cause my F250 has most of the towing features from 2014 but ranger only just now gets them. The centre screen in the ranger is way better then F250 but 😎👍🏼
Cant wait to get one also, did they say anything about the DPF and the burns? Thanks.
I guess with the new setup we will see how all that goes over next 6 months 👍🏼
I saw one with black ford logos. Only once. Any idea if thats optional or what?
No apparently word is that someone at the factory accidentally put raptor badge on it… as far as I’m concerned they should of kept doing it ! I like them black 😂👍🏼
looks like the rear tub is OEM seal
Thanks for the video Ty.
Now do you maybe come to know if this V6 diesel will be on offer also in the Raptor version in none US-markets?
I have read something about that Europe might be getting some detuned version of 3.0 Ecoboost that will be delivering around 400hp! in the US version. But this V6 diesel would be much better fit as for practicality and fuel economy. That 2.0 bi-turbo engine that is in the 1st gen Ranger Raptor was absolute joke to me in a vehicle that was suppose to be considered and sold as a performance vehicle!
I’m not sure about the other markets but hopefully more information will come out soon 😁🤙🏼
The roller shutter is the same as the current ranger
Great video Ty. Looks and sounds like an awesome ute (not a truck). It will be interesting to see how competitors respond with their new models.
I grew up calling my Pajero and Landcruisers trucks. Then I bought a real truck, a big Nissan UD Heavy. And trying to google parts for it, it would come up as something completely unrelated, like a cafe in Mexico with the same area code number or whatnot. So I had to put Nissan UD part number "Truck" and all I used to get were damn Navara's and people in forums calling their Patrols trucks.
Stopped calling my 4WDs trucks now.
It's another 'Crew-cab' or 'twin-cab'. A 'Ute' or Utility has 2 doors on a mono body. Ford Australia produced the first Ute in 1934. The last Ute was manufactured by GM Holden Australia in 2017.
When the fuel prices are doubling why not put this beauty out on the market??? Shame the UK is getting the watered down version.
I have a new Ranger 2022. The 4wd system is crap. Land rover ditched this in 1979. Leaf springs. Drum brakes and part time 4x4. I am getting the 2023 soon. I like my Ranger but its no Landrover! Mine is a biturbo wildtrack.
I was very impressed with the new one at the launch !
does it have the 240volt power point
The lack of towing mirrors is a big issue that no manufacturers ever address with the vehicles we use for towing. With all the new tech in the mirrors, it will be a pain to source after-market mirrors with the same functionality.
I think clear view offer mirrors with factory functions
@@TyFenwick probably not cameras and zone lighting, at least not yet. And they are bloody elephant ears that won't fit into most garages without being folded in, not mention the exorbitant cost. Surely the factory can imagine a solution when the main reason for having the V6 is for towing...tradies included.
Hey mate! Awesome video! Loved how in-depth you went with it! Would love to see more from you
Any idea of the kerb weight and gvm?
Cheers
That info I think ford dropped today, il need to find it but should be on there website 👍🏼
Next Gen sports..
Kurb weight 2300kg
GVM 3280
And most impressive is the
GCM now at 6400kg
Ordered one a few weeks ago.
Rear disc brakes will make the truck much more expensive for a small fraction of benefit. Competition is good for innovation but this thing is twice the price of what people want to pay for a dual cab. Have them as optional extras which gives people the choice
Cheaper versions of ranger have drum rear brakes
@@TyFenwick I stand corrected. Rear discs are so unnecessary imo. The budget of adding rear discs could be better spent putting a bigger disc on the front
I mean tritons are 65k now ffs, 75k for this is nothing
Door handles are different and the door seals have changed.
If you're ever selling the F250 hit me up eh.
Think I’ll be selling it in next 6 months mate.
@@TyFenwick definitely let me know eh. I'm selling my Y62 to get a F250 or Ram 2500. Ruled out the Chev after having a look at one..didn't realise it had a torsion bar front end. Watched all your videos on Rams and F250's.....I'm no clearer but yours is a mint set up that I'd jump at!
Why not tell them that they are having gearbox problems with the ten speed
I haven’t had those issues. I can only report on my first hand experience with the vehicle
I think VW took steps back from what Amarok was before Ford, I think the lion engine 3.0 V6 is a joint venture with PSA and the ten speed tranny is a product that has been deemed as not reliable by the Americans, on the other hand the older Amarok had a proven V6 diesel by Audi and an 8 speed tranny by ZF, who knows?
Il be interested to see how the VW is in person compared to the Ranger 👍🏼
This motor has it's torque and power down low and for a longer range than the older V6 in the Amarok, so I think it will be better suited. Also has low range, something the Amarok was missing.... Looking forward to see how the 2.3L turbo petrol is in the Amarok compared to the V6...
Wow...an 18 minutes review and the vehicle is perfect! Really?? Nothing wrong with it? No improvements needed? No suggestions? Ford will be inviting you back, no worries.
I’m doing another video of what I don’t like but I’m honestly clutching at straws. Is honestly is so good 🤙🏼
Next week il be showing you what I don’t like or improvements that can be made.
@@TyFenwick OK Ty. Don't get me wrong. Your review was excellent so look forward to the next installment. Check out the drive shaft issue. Cheers.
Great review! But am I the only person who thinks the V6 engine just looks a hot mess under the hood? It's looks like a random pile of tubes and bits just shoved in there.
I’ve seen 10 times worse engine bays trust me. It’s very tidy set up in my opinion.
It’s only a Ford ranger plenty other it’s out there that are just as good if not better amazing what the advertising dollar can do as I said it’s only a Ford Fix Often Repair Daily
This thing has set the bar in dual cabs in Australia. Hands down nothing offers what the new ranger does.
FYI ford don’t pay me. 😂
I drive a 1994 ranger Xlt, hard pass on all the gimmicks, the whole point of a ranger was a fun small truck. The only thing this thing has on mine is AC and a better engine. Call it a f150😂
It’s the way of the future mate, I’ve got 1978 F100 & F250 I know how ya feel 😂👍🏼
Good motor but it’s ugly as hell from the front
Bigger engine? Make it even better, stick a 4.2L V8 Turbo Diesel in it.
bro I had to thumb down the video not because of the content but due to the fucking awful background music, DO A BETTER JOB next time on music choice or better yet no background music.
How about just no thumbs down at all ? Just click off ?
This pelican complaining about the production quality of a free RUclips vid, old tight ass terry expects more bang for his buck does he? 😂
Can barely hear it. 🧂
