Hey, the galaxy is literally, potenially, about to end. Shooting your shot for one more good time seems reasonable.
Shepard is always such a creep when she flirts lol. She comes onto him SO HARD. And then she gets him drunk to sleep with him. Wow, this did not age well.

This is looking less like a romance and more like workplace harassment and misuse of power. A bit like male Shepard completely ignoring Jacks reactions in Mass Effect 2.
Even though James is pretty clear he's interested but just awkward about the whole "knowing the legend before the person" thing and for him it's like sleeping with the Queen of Marines, I'd say he's perfectly aware of where this could be going and fine with that and that, had she been just an N7 he met in a bar on shore leave, he'd have not only said yes but probably asked her first, femshep on her own manages to turn this romance into "sexual harassment in the workplace 101".

By running away like hell. Don't bother killing the Banshees, they just respawn. Try to kill the lesser mobs, Marauders and Cannibals. Stay INSIDE the buildings to avoid the Reaper's insta-kill laser and try to keep the path to the missiles open. Also, try to keep your teammates alive to keep some of the enemies off you, if you can, try to revive them the way you would in multiplayer so you don't expend medigel. When it gets to the missile, don't worry about sacrificing them so you can make it.

This should not be up for debate. Getting someone drunk just to sleep with them IS drugging them. Alcohol is still a drug, it has effects on your mind, and makes you act in ways you normally wouldn't, IE giving consent to something that, when you're sober, you would not. It's an influencing beverage. If someone came to you, continuously pressed to sleep with you and then while you were under the influence got their way, how would you feel? Seriously? You'd probably feel taken advantage of.

I actually feel bad for James, pressured into sex with his commanding officer. I loved the Citadel DLC but this has to be one of the worst writing points in the entire game, like BioWare completely forgot who Shepard is as a person. The fact that he was reluctant actually makes me like him though. Maybe I'll give him a chance.
That comment doesn't make any sense since Shepard is whoever you want him or her to be.
Jack Black She (or he) is the hero of the entire galaxy, she's smart and knowledgeable and in control whether she's renegade or paragon, in all her other romances she's supportive and flirty and a little awkward, this was straight up "take your clothes off that's an order", that isn't her no matter how you play.
Morgan From Michigan or Shepard is a murderous psychopath that completely lost her mind and cracked under the pressure of all the galaxy resting on her shoulders in ME3. She starts to murder and destroy anything that appears as a threat even when it doesn't make sense (Samara's daughter for example).

I didn't like how I couldn't avoid my Shepard from flirting with Vega. I wasn't romantic with him but she would flirt with him all the time and it was really out of place. Though I don't' see how he couldn't' have been a true romance option. I didn't like him at first when I started the game (I thought he was a forced-beefcake character), but once you get to learn more about him he's really sweet and a decent character altogether. Shepard kind of turns on this sort of pervy cougar persona around him. I like that she's confident, but she kind of like...harasses him a bit haha.

I LOVE James Vega, but not like this, I wish he'd been an actual romance option, not just some DLC one night stand add on. I love that female Shepard is so confident and just goes for it in all her different romances but this was more awkward than Garrus in ME2, and that's saying something. In all other FemShep romances she's supportive and flirty and a little awkward, here's she's pushy and like aggressive towards him, that's not who she is as a character no matter how you play.

I really don't like this part of the DLC because Shepard had to get him so drunk that he would forget she is the commander so he'd sleep with her. But yet when you have Ashley he tries to hook up with her and says hot stuff to her in spanish why couldn't femshep get that? But no she had to come off as desperate to get Vega into bed with her
This romance needs an end scene added in, because this is literally shameful. James was worth more. He deserved better. His character was so rich. A great edit would be if you don't coerce him into sleeping with you at the party, in the final battle when you talk to him, he kisses you, he's definitely a now or never kind of guy, and says something like, "I just don't want to never have done that". This verifies that yes he does in fact return Shepard's feelings, and lets the player imagine a future after all the bullshit.
If only. He and many others were wasted romance/involvement wise sadly.
That's very true. I'm also slightly creeped by the Edi/Joker ship. I mean really, Edi is the Normandy, and Joker finally gets to love on the ship in a literal sense. It's weird.

I cannot say that one didn't surprise me haha, I like them together but I was worried she'd use the body for evil more so or the body being in the A.I core would some how hack into Edi and use the ship to kill us.
Yeah, there was the risk of that, but short of choosing the synthesis ending, Edi essentially is an inanimate object, she's the Normandy. It didn't really strike me until I was on my like 20th playthrough. At first I thought it was sweet, until I really watched a lot of the Joker cutscenes from the earlier games and realized just how obsessed he was with the normandy, and then it got creepy.

I don't see how it's rape regardless of the gender of either people. It's not like James was so drunk that he couldn't consent. He knew what he was doing and remembers his actions in the morning, so he couldn't have been that drunk. It would be date-rape if Shepard put something in his drinks or forced him to get drunk to the point his body was borderline in shock.

So much potential that was wasted. Femshep doesn't have as many love interests to begin with, Kaidan even went bisexual, and although there's some chemistry between Vega and Shepard from the start, they couldn't be bothered to turn him into a love interest? Pathetic.
Yeah always struggled with that with my Shepard, would stick with Liara but options are real limited aside her & Garrus. Couldn't understand why Kaiden went bisexual when Ashley didn't, would only have made sense if both did seeing as if you kill Kaiden & Ash doesn't go Bi then thats 2 potential love interests gone in one go!
I dunno why Jack wasn't bisexual, she even mentions having a girlfriend before yet femshep can't romance her. The Jacob romance is terrible seeing as he leaves you for Brynn & Thane goes and dies anyway, romances aren't that great for femshep :(
You can try with Samara as a female but she'll turn you down. I always stuck with Liara, but that was mostly because of lack of options & by time Traynor was introduced as a potential love interest Shepard is already pretty locked in a romance already. Maleshep has more than he knows what to do with (Liara, Tali, Jack, Miranda, Ash, Kaiden, Kelly etc)
Still, i'm almost always playing a femshep, Jennifer Hale is just perfect, love her voice so much :D
I think Kaidan went bisexual simply because so many wished for it, I guess since Ashley isn't that popular with most people they didn't do the same to her, or maybe it was just dumb prejudices and stereotyping, since Kaidan is seen as soft and sensitive, which is a typical gay/bisexual stereotype when it comes to men.
In any case they should've stayed fair and make both of them bisexual or give femshep another love interest to balance it out.
Jacob is a poor excuse for a love interest, and it feels like you have to coax him into the whole thing to begin with.
Thane dies, and oh lord, how disgraceful his death is handled if he was your love interest. Plus, you didn't even get a date with him before he dies.
Liara was never interesting enough to me, I always thought of her more as a little sister, so I pretty much always romance Garrus, and I'm totally glad that they decided to make him a love interest because I love him and the relationship he has with Shepard to death.
But yeah, femshep > maleshep. I'd never dream of not playing as a femshep, Jennifer Hale is a goddess!
But Ash is a tomboy who is foul mouthed and is a fighter... She would be a great stereotypical lesbian :P
And it is kind of sad... (SPOILER!) in the end of mass effect 3, i could see, that vega was kind of in love with my shep, i think. when liara and james left her.. is was kind of cute but very sad.. romantic.. i hate that shepard dies in the end.. ore is tehre an other possible ending?
If you have over 4000 war assets and choose the destroy ending and have the extended cut DLC, your romance interest or Liara instead of putting your plaque on the names of the fallen board simply look at your name then smile, and then the camera goes to earth under a pile of rubble and you hear Shepard take a breath, implying s/he is alive and they know it

My best male friend was sexually harassed by one of my female teachers in 8th grade. He told me and and his uncle/guardian but he thought he should just go through with it--said that he was lucky. I was against it because he was uh ...fucking 13 years old. It's been years but I still think about that so often and how fucked up it was. He was too afraid to go to the principal--not because of getting her in trouble --because of people thinking he's weak or "gay".

I like Vega, even though he's a bonehead. The mentor-protege thing always made the idea of him as a romance option awkward, but if they had done it well, the rookie learning to see his hero as a person and them getting each other through the Reapers, he could have been a fun love interest.
Then I saw this. They could not have made that more uncomfortable unless the last thing you saw before they were in bed was Shepard picking him up off the floor and promising to help him to bed. He's uncomfortable at EVERY stage of this, he's never really enthusiastic just morbidly curious after she pesters him and gets him drunk, and he looks as if Shepard is murdering his childhood. It makes me like him more, that he clearly knows he doesn't really love "Lola" like that. It makes me hate Shepard for pushing the issue. It was like Clone Shepard took over to traumatize her crew. Bad fan service. Bad BAD fan service.

@@GeekRemix Mari, I've played all 4 games several times. And from what I remember both genders can romance with someone and then cheat on them therefore having relations with two people right? Also you are right, consent is important and I have always agreed with that point that female on male assault is real and a problem like any other assault. It wasn't my intention to minimize the issue I just felt like to say Femshep leans predatory is harsh and unfair when she never crosses a line with James in that way. Was she overstepping a little? Absolutely but as soon as he shuts her down she backs off. Also Maleshep can romance with the consort and Diana Allers alongside a romance. But at the end of the day there needs to be more equality all around with both genders.
Watch "Paragon Lost". Vega chose to save his romantic interest and the military intel she had over his squad. He always blamed himself for what happened. It makes sense that he'd avoid romantic entanglements in the military again.

A 12-year-old fangirl could write a better romance than that! Femshep was one step away from strait-up roofie-ing him! GOOD LORD, BIOWARE!
Here's a better idea in under a minute:
Femshep spends some time with James, bonding with him, getting to know him, finding common ground and interests. Through this, James begins to see that this hero that billions, including himself, idolize is just as human as everyone else (figuratively, of course.) He gets to know a Shepard that the galaxy doesn't and gets into a state of relaxation around Shepard that allows him to accept a developing relationship. THEN THE ADVANCES START AND THEY AREN'T CONFUSING AND RAPE-Y! They're mutual, heartfelt, and easy to transition into for the player. It also dosen't have to end in sex. It can, but I find that this particular one shouldn't.
They put WAY too much focus on trying to get the player with Liara to the point of turning her clingy and making all other options shit, even if the player would rather have a strait femshep.
Damn it, Bioware. Fuck you.
Yeah, if you're looking for a straight femShep romance, you're going to get shafted. One option is an asshole who cheats on you as soon as you're gone. Another is a beautiful romance destroyed by an incurable disease. The other is essentially dating a plank of wood. Then there's Garrus, eho many people consider the only option, but I think parts of this romance were ruined as well. Like, why do they HAVE to try having sex? Garrus even said he's not into humans, and I personally don't find Turian biology titillating, so it all felt so forced. I dunno. They could have done better. :l
This could be why I ended up feeling like romance in Mass Effect kind of sucks overall... although to be fair Dragon Age 2 was lacking in some ways as well, just not quite as bad. But in Origins and Inquisition I felt like I had much better options... and you interact more.
Yet, what's strange is that when fans of both series voted for the best options for romance, I think Mass Effect still won? People go on and on about Garrus and Fenris... and although I fangirl a bit over each of them... you don't necessarily get as much quality interaction as the other games :-/ I'm hoping Andromeda significantly improves on romances...
I disagree about DA2. You really can't beat the Fenris romance. It was fantastic, one of the best they've ever done, better than any in DAI imo. And you certainly have to interact with Fenris to romance him. :)
I liked Garrus a lot but couldn't see romancing him.

Romancing James is almost as bad as romancing Kaidan. They equally bring NOTHING to the table in an adult relationship. I would have happily traded Kaidan, Jacob, and James to have an option to romance TIM. At least TIM is moderately complex and doesn't make me want to shank him.
I wouldn't even call it a "romance". femShep goes all rapey and frankly out of character and pressures James into having a one night thing.
Thank you for making this video! My Shepard romanced Kaidan in #1 stayed single in #2 and am planning reuniting her with Kaidan in #3. Then I saw James and those arms. I am a sucker for arms. Glad I don't need to waste time with him and can stick with the original plans of Kaidan. Although if Joker was an option...
I would romance Joker in a second. I really wish the game had made him an option!
I'm like 2 years late but yeah. Kaidan's a good guy, but Joker is the man. But sadly he's more interested in EDI even if we asked him about the possibility between Femshep and him.

I'd rather have Grunt than James. If they're gonna do it this half-assed, don't bother doing it at all. James respects Shepard, leave it at that. Grunt would at least be interesting, even though femshep might get killed in the processXD

If I had a nickel for every time two characters in a sci-fi universe were on a balcony, sand was mentioned, and then one of them did something really creepy, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

I was really hoping that I didn’t remember that scene being like that. If it had been mshep with a female crew member, it wouldn’t even have passed as an idea. It’s sexual harassment and sexual assault. Someone telling you no to all your advances and then you sleep with them when they’re drunk enough is assault.

Disturbed but intrigued by Shepard
So happy I was already romance to Kaidan during this scene. I had no idea Shepard could be so creepy to poor James. Like he basically sees her as Anderson, his role model. How Shepard sees Anderson. Then to see this makes me uncomfortable.
It's funny, while playing the game a year ago (and many times since!) I never really considered the possibility of a James romance beyond noting that he wasn't one. Having watched this though, I can see why a lot of people wanted one. His shy/sheepish/over the shoulder glances are absolutely adorable.
To bad fshep went all predatory on him. You'd think the devs would have learned their lesson with the Jacob fiasco.

Vega clearly was uncomfortable with the whole thing and only got pressured into it after being drunk, even says "lets not mention this again" after they wake up as though it was something he really wasn't into. Although ironically this is a good example of someone abusing their position of power over someone to do something they really aren't into.
