In the last great American dynasty her husband is the one who died of the heart attack. And at the end Taylor says “then it was bought by me” so the whole story was about the lady who owned the house before Taylor bought it. ICONIC

i think what happens is.....swifties know a lot of her life background which helps us to understand songs. newer people/non-fans listening to the song one time and not knowing......that's why they just don't understand it like we do. listening to her as a swiftie and listening to her as a newcomer are such different experiences in my opinion. i'd have a similar reaction if i were him, i would think it's about a breakup or a toxic friend/family member.

Mirrorball isn't about a girl trying to keep someone in her life, it's about Taylor's artistry. "I (Taylor Swift) want you (the listener... the Swiftie) to know, that I'm a Mirrorball." It's a love song to her greatest love, the reason she is an artist. The regulars and masquerade revelers are critics and papparazzi. She doesn't see them as her fans. Her fans are not like them.

folklore completely rebranded taylor , i mean she was always one of the biggest superstars on earth but w folklore and projects after it , she became this legendary icon she is known now. the creative freedom she got after leaving her previous label really showed she was being held back.
also folklore is so beloved cuz it came out during the worst times of covid lock down and it was about imagination and escapism which we all needed at the time so it just helped so many ppl to stay sane including myself.

I just watched the intro and I have to say, I'm glad that you took the time to do these videos to broaden your perspective of her (or any other artists to post on this channel, really!). However I feel like people who just wrote her off as xyz type of musician or rolled their eyes at her music had only ever heard her top singles. Which is understandable that you haven't gone out of your way to listen to her deeper cuts if you didn't like what was on the radio, but I think it goes without saying that pretty much almost every artist that has a chart topping hit usually has some songs that aren't promoted as singles that are way better or more relatable

I grew up listening to "Speak Now" and a handful of her other songs, and heard some hits on the radio; but when "Folklore" and "Evermore" came out I was amazed at how poetic and reflective they were. the last great american dynasty is a story about a woman named Rebekah Harkness, who Taylor described as "a misfit widow getting gleeful revenge on the town that cast her out." she married a man named Bill who was indeed an heir to the Standard Oil name and money and then he died of a heart attack. people started blaming Rebekah and saying she didn’t deserve everything she’s got and a lot of nasty things in general, so she got revenge on them and had a fun time “ruining everything”. Taylor bought the house she once owned and found a lot of similarities between herself and Rebekah, having a bad reputation but getting back at haters and all that. so she, being an incredible songwriter she is, wrote that genius song. iconic

    • @khills
      @khills 8 месяцев назад +2

She got popular “fast” (if you weren’t a country fan), and when she decided to make a pop album, 1989, after Red’s crossover effect, she paired up her amazing lyrics (and I’ve noticed all the folks who dislike her music almost immediately acknowledge she’s a fantastic lyricist once they start to listen to her discography) with the production of a guy who has the third most #1 pop hits EVER, and yeah. That’s pretty much a guarantee for hit after hit… and then suddenly she’s EVERYWHERE. And now add onto it the fact that it seemed like if she was in an awards category she won, and Kanye deciding the best way to get his name out into media for his new record was to generate another fight with Swift but this time make it look like she was the conniving liar,… 🤷🏼‍♀️ And I guess the final ingredient in that was a media that literally drove Britney insane. It was a media that would eat you alive, as a female star, if you didn’t play by their rules. Something I remember from Reputation was one of the anchors of ET saying who did Taylor think she was, to hide her relationship-sure, she could have a few dates in private, but then she OWED everyone. From 1989? Another ET reporter said to her on the red carpet for, I think it was the Viewer’s Choice awards, that her dress made her legs look amazing, and with legs like that, how many men did Taylor plan on taking home with her-and then got irritated when Taylor made it clear that was an inappropriate comment.
The media was just LIKE that. This was around the same time there was public countdown to Emma Watson turning 18, with many TV shows literally counting down the minutes live like it was New Year’s Eve. Where reporters thought they were owed every detail of everyone’s life. When people blamed Taylor for dating a 32 year old man when she was 19 and a 29 year old man when she was 20, calling her a “maneater” who couldn’t keep and wasn’t (heavily implied sexually) satisfied by these men. When reporters were comfortable asking Britney what kind of underwear she was wearing, and would ask Miley if she was still saving herself for marriage, or had she “done it” with her boyfriend. (Hell, they asked most female stars if they’d had sex with the person they were dating.) And NO ONE treated Timberlake or Bieber or any of the male artists anywhere near the same way.
Thankfully, no one is asking Sadie Sink who she is sleeping with - many people freaked out about her appearance in All Too Well, even some of the same anchors who said Swift was sleeping her way through musicians before she was 21 - and we seem to have largely moved past this era where reporters feel justified to demand ever intimate detail from the female celebs they were infatuated with.
…wow. I just wrote you a novella. Sorry about that! 😂 I keep seeing people talk about missing out on what happened because they, for whatever reason, missed it, or didn’t see the larger picture, so I’ve started researching it more and more…. And the poor denizens of the RUclips comments get my verbal barf.

So you ran past 'My Tears Ricochet' really fast which makes me think you don't understand how tragically beautiful it is.
So when Taylor met Scott Borchetta at 14 she agreed to a 13 year contract to his record label. The thing is that he was just starting a record label and she was his first signed artist.
She helped build the record label and brought the most revenue. Even so, they became family and she loved Scott as a second dad figure.
Long story short, he did not and was in it for the profits. So he sold her stolen lullabies to Scooter who orchestrated the "taylorswiftisoverparti" (didn't spell it right cause I dont want to be associated) with Kanye and Justin Bieber.
So basically "my tears Ricochet' is about losing her second dad and how she couldn't let it go with grace.

Actually, the last great American Dynasty is quite a tragic story about a woman who married Bill Harkness, a socialite and Heir to a big company called Standard Oil. The song lyrics are based on the real life story of Rebekah Harkness, the woman who owned Holiday House on Rhode Island before Taylor. When her husband Bill died of a heart attack the townspeople blamed Rebekah saying that she had a 'marvelous time' ruining the great Harkness 'dynasty'. After this she began to spiral and threw her life into 'boys and the ballet' and wastes all the fortune on parties etc.. She was even rumoured to clean her pool with Dom Perignon champagne. After all od this, the house on Rhode Island was free of 'women with madness and men with bad habits' for fifty years until Taylor herself brought it.

I think your point at the end about her telling real people’s stories is why Taylor is such a popular artist. She is the biggest musician in the world atm, but nearly every song she writes is written in a way someone can relate to. Like anti-hero, or cruel summer. Two of her most recent big hits, but they are still relatable despite being directly about her life. Everyone has insecurities and moments where they feel like they are ruining something, and a lot of people experience some time of relationship that seems like it is full of obstacles that you have to keep running through “I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you”:

Thank you for being open minded to listen to Taylor's albums. You said before that it had been almost 10 years since you last listened to her because "Shake It Off" really made you nope from Taylor when you listened to her frequently and not of your own volition before "1989" thanks to your sisters. I hope you can listen to her other albums. You have to remember that the way she releases albums is weird and unconventional. She has an album called "Midnights" which she released at midnight but then she released a deluxe edition 3 hours later called "Midnights 3AM" which include another 7 or 8 songs. The standard version is the one sent to the Grammys for Album of the Year consideration while "Midnights 3AM" is a gift from herself to her hardcore Swifties who know everything about her and feed their hunger for more music from her.

Folklore is my favourite Taylor Swift album. The stories are beautiful and real.
Illicit Affairs might be a hard subject but if you watch her sing it live in the Eras Tour film I think you'll have a different opinion of it.
Also, if you want suggestions for more musicians to react to I would recommend Lewis Capaldi. Amazing lyrics, hits you with every emotion.
I look forward to watching more of your videos now I've seen all the Taylor Swift ones 😊
