I Built a 3 Cylinder Sports Car that's Actually Good? | Automation / BeamNG

- Today, the LEGEND RETURNS! Using Automation and BeamNG, we build and test a successor to one of my favorite creations - the Mexican hatchback.
The Nopal X is an absolute beast, featuring a turbocharged 0.6 liter inline 3 cylinder engine putting out 250HP. This is by far the smallest performance engine I have ever built. Its a bit of an upgrade on paper from the original Nopal. Best of all? It's only $16,000. But is it any good?

man i'm so stoked that you're back, you have no idea

We need a new budget Nopal, outsourced to North Korea to save money...

my opinion on this vehicle will scale directly on how many drug cartel heads buy them, and how terribly over-decorated they end up.
Only time will tell
Also how many get abandoned and bought by tavarish, Ed bolian, and mat Armstrong. And then sold to Ed bolian, tyler Hoover because of their weird, and wacky history.
Cartel ppl prefer muscle cars me thinks

"are we talking about the same Mexico?"
@considerGaming I have a mod on the BeamNG repository called LMP C Evo

“Hello? Nopal Customer Service? Yes I'd like to report my touchscreen not responding and glitching upon mild acceleration and other electrical problems with the infotainment system. Also my clutch has gotten loose and is unresponsive for some reason.”
"¿Hablas Español?"
With how light you made the car, I feel like there's a legitimate risk someone could steal it with a couple of friends by carrying it away.
Don't go putting ideas in peoples heads like that lol
As a Mexican, I can confirm that indeed our biggest exportation to the world are avocados and sports cars 🗣🇲🇽🌯
I appreciate the confirmation! :D

Bet the US import model gets a 3l V6 from general motors that produces 180bhp but has basically no power under 2000rpm despite being N/A

bet this is the "jalapeno" version and there's a more civilized one
I like it. Yeah prob like a 180hp version with a reasonable power curve.
When I think of Mexico, I think of the fact they get the Toyota Hilux while us Americans get a truck bigger than an the old tundra as their "small pickup" thanks to the chicken tax... Oh and also sports cars.
honestly, it's more to do with the EPA and CAFE regulations than chicken tax at this point. a 90's Ranger would have to get about 41MPG to be put on the market these days
@@michaelkolano8686 is that why the Ford maverick is a hybrid?! That would explain a lot...
@@ethanankrum4149 To be honest, i always wondered why hybrid drivetrains aren't much of a thing for trucks, especially tractor trailers. I mean, locomotives have been for about half a century at least.
electric motors have torque to hell and back, and if the engine is going to just produce electricity it can be made very efficient, light, reliable etc. and there can be a token amount of battery storage for parking lots and the like.
@@michaelkolano8686I assume the reason big tractor trailers don't do hybrid drivetrains is largely because of cost. Those things are already expensive as hell, and I don't know if batteries, hybrid motor, and a more beefy transmission that can handle the extra torque,
you can tell costs were cut by how empty the underside of it is. it flipped over and there was lots of empty space down there
Shhhhhhhhh... XD
Not gonna lie the design looks like something Lotus would make. Like this gives me major Lotus vibes with the design, especially the front.
Hadn't thought of that!
As the Nopal X tumbled down the hill after hitting the ramp, I noticed that the back caved in, almost like the original Nopal.
Then I imagined an ad campaign for a new Nopal (in-universe) that has a modernized version of the body style (maybe not exact body) and fixtures of the original Nopal but performance and production value closer to that of the Nopal X that features the Nopal X jumping off a ramp and tumbling down a hill as the body gets smashed against the ground, shaping it roughly into a wacky hatchback shape before it cuts to the bottom of the hill as the new Nopal (Nopal Classic is the name I imagine) lands on its wheels in a corny/majestic way.
I just put way too much thought into this, and I kind of want to make it if I could.
I love how it looks more classic the more damaged it gets
8:02 that boost kick is a jumpsacare.
3 tbings I wanna say really quick:
First and foremoest. Been around since the OG Comminturismo and just finished re-bingeing the entirety of autopilitan, absolutely love the ads for the cars and the stunning editing quality! Always a genuine treat to see a new upload.
Second, the Nopal looks fucking amazing! It's like a cross between a 90's eclipse and a 370z with maybe a hint of GT-R/Mustang? I'd buy like 3 of em, one to slap a rocket bunny kit on and drift to hell and back, one to daily, and another to hold onto cuz it looks too damn good.
Lastly, it'd be cool to see a car company who's design premise is restomod from factory, like instead of having to find and buy a classic muscle, luxury, or sports car to repair and rebuild you could get the fun of iconic classic styling with the benefits and comfort of modern vehicles fresh from factory.
Like the restomod idea! Could also be a way to breath some new life into some older designs!

The silver lining to this is you're making more power than a superbike in a smaller package
Gotta throw this thing in a bike
People who make cars with less than 300hp always get surprised by how fun they are.
i think making it heavier could actually make it handle better and not slide as much as there is more waight pressing down on the weels, just my humble opinion
Yeah probably. I was trying to compensate with downforce but quite frankly I need more practice with it lol
I have some bad news for you, that $26.9k in the markets in 6:58 is not accurate to the total car production cost in any way, and the car itself could have been much more with it's actual cost, for that see the overall stats after suspension
Maybe they're just sold at a loss? lol.
But yeah I was mainly going off final materials cost as I didn't notice that overall cost one tucked away in there at the time. I made some luxury additions to the model that is being released and all in all its about 45k. Still not terrible imo.
The skinny jeans gonna make me act up 😏😏🙏🙏
OKAY? OKAY NGL I KINDA LOVE THIS ONE
I'd get it in a heartbeat
It be cool to see a v6 designed like it was 2 of the i3s welded together
I feel your tuning pain man. Took me like 2 years before I could confidently tune an engine to exactly how I like. ❤❤

If there is a future Autopolitian, a possible challenge would be giving all cars a trailer hitch and having them haul the tandem enclosed trailer, fully loaded, around a small track.
And some possible ideas for future cars based off far too many hours in Automation:

Modern rear wheel drive large sedan
Modern full sized luxury suv
90's low quality car with a powerful engine
Modern V8/V10 mid engine sports car/supercar

Modern car built by a country that's never built one before.
Lot of ideas there, things to keep in mind!
And there will be another season most likely, so next season perhaps I'll make a towing variant of each car.
I feel like your hunt for high speed downforce is a core misunderstanding of what the car should do - you wouldn't see a Miata handle a turn at those speeds, but in slower speeds, it handles brilliantly.
Yeah you right, I kinda had that feeling the whole time but just kept doubling down out of spite lol
I just ran across this video and your channel and I must say, you holding the ENTIRE MIC ARM at the beginning is fucking hilarious
It was the easiest option
Anytime i hear mexico i think of cartels 😂 so is nopal now a front for cartel money laundering
Edit:Did consider just make Vtec turbo system?
Did I?
And the lawyers insist that I say I it is not a front.
WE'RE SO FUCKING BACK
Too much downforce, not enough mechanical grip and suspension work
But the design is nice ! The side line with the windowline is gorgeous..
Gotta have mistakes somewhere! But yeah, live and learn I suppose!
So you've basically made the Mexican version of a BRZ... kinda... unique in its own right but in essence you made a BRZ/GR86 in spirit.
This might be your finest work yet!
Not sure it beats the Kumiho personally, but top 5 for sure!
It looks like a Jaguar F Type mixed with a MK5 Supra
Not the worst blend!
What a curious way of pronouncing nopal it sounds so unforgivingly English

5000 mile service: full engine overhaul
Sorry, the warranty doesn't cover the engine block having completely melted
Nah man you did that power curve dirty. It spools up so late you wouldn’t need a turbo at all at that point. Rather make a high rpm natural aspirated screaming engine with same power.
I just finished tuning a 120 hp 203cc i4 engine, same vibes

@@ConsiderGaming haha, I'm sure some part of the process involved mexico😏
wow
Nobody does a cast iron head and aluminum block, that's dumb. Also, that bore/stroke ratio is cursed. Never go less than 0.9x bore compared to stroke unless you're making a fake diesel or a tractor/Harley motor, and even then, past 0.8x bore/stroke is unrealistic. Conversely, more than 2.5x bore/stroke (oversquare) is also unrealistic.
bro gives his car wheels the thickness of a straw in this vid and is surprised he has no grip, honestly, double the rear tires in width and give the fronts an upgrade in size too, can't grip what it can't touch.
Funnily, I decided to build a mid-engine 3 cylinder turbo charged sports car in Automation. Making it look similar to a super car from around the 2007 era. Oddly enough, with like 350 HP and with how cheap it was material wise, the Automation market thing gave it really high stats and it drove amazing since the body design was meant for something way larger and more powerful. If I remember right the engine was called the Pixie and the car was called the Imposter.
This guy made an f-type rear end “make it ugly as possible”
Hi! Usually when cars have lots of power it has some sort of all-wheel drive on demand. That helps starting the car from 0 kmh way way faster
Jesus that's an undersquare engine, probably moreso than most diesels
guy who has no idea how a turbo, gears or any engine works try build a engine 8:53
Just waiting for Superchargers fr fr.
my brAin keeps comparing it to a Porsche shape because of how small it is or how small Porsches seem.
The first thought that came to mind when thinking of Mexico was the cartel.
Your not supposed to be full throttle all the time drifting if you are then your hearing is bad for drifting
hey ive got a car ive made yesterday. its a cheap japanese sports car, it has the best handling ive seen so far tbh hahah its basically glued to the ground xd i can send you the pdf so you can test it hehe
The turbo takes 2 to 3 business days to spool up
The Mastretta MXT really looks like a smart roadster from the front.
This car definitely holds a fair chance against some of the cars on the block. Though I gurantee if this was a real car, a lot of people would ironically buy it.
(P.s A car idea to work off inspiration wise, the Suzuki Jimny or one of their other models)
Glad you like it! And I actually made a car based very heavily on the Jimny that is also part of the season. ruclips.net/video/T15OhdRJPDs/видео.htmlsi=OoYwLfc8C1wogwpq

Hi, could you please do a luxury sports sedan with an extremely downsized engine like the new amg cars with a 2 liter 4 banger. I know it sounds boring but i'd love to see your take on a underpowered luxury german sedan. Love your new videos and glad your back!
Hear me out:
Make a tiny engine with a shitload of power for its size and no reliability
@@Danse_Macabre_125 Just wait until you watch the video at the top of this page. :D
Yeah I might do something like that soon. Next season I'm definitely going to have a new BMW type car from the Schwerin brand (unless the SLFE wins the tourney), so that would be a good option to consider!
The inferno looks like a warframe “fashion frame”
We need a Canadian made truck based on the explorer sport trac
i did this, and somehow i got 600 horse power.
I would love to see you make an executive car! Something that the secret service would use.
They wouldn't use it very long 😆

maybe you could make a rally3 or rally2 car?

what is the app name ?
Billet aluminum engines are alot stronger than the light aluminum which would drastically increase reliability

I need some HELP with BeamNG:
I built a car in Automation, click on "export", but it does not show up in Beam like it should according to the game devs own video
My PC gets super hot even on lowest graphics settings (does not happen in any other game), is there anything I can do other than lowest graphis?
Also regarding the game Automation I can't import car files from my old PC, the files people tell me to put them into are nowhere to be found. Also I can't find the files of the cars I already built on this new PC, where are they, where do car files of cars I build go? Of course I found the Steamlibrary Automation file, but I can't find aynthing car file related inside. Please somebody help!
I'm not sure I can help with the computer getting hot, but for the latter question make sure you have "show hidden files" enabled or else you can't access them. If you already do, then just create the files in the designated directory and try placing them in there.

As a long time viewer, I feel compelled to tell you that out of all the new transmission options, you picked the only one that isn't used in production cars... twice. A rough guide: Sports cars and up dual clutch, wannabe sports cars and down advanced auto and continuous, full blown racecars sequential, anything pre 2000's automatic, all of the above manual. As with anything, there are a few outliers, but sequentials really aren't, as even the production cars that have/had them are/were racing focused. Caterham and Radical are the only ones that still use them. Auto manuals were only on a few cars and they never worked out as they had all the downsides of an auto (slower gear changes than a manual at the time) and all the downsides of a manual (computer controlled clutch that never engaged fast enough from a stop). If you were trying to park or start on a hill they were very, very bad.
Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind moving forward!
@@ConsiderGaming If you aren't going for anything super realistic don't worry too much about it. I just find that in Beam using different transmissions changes how a car acts, and the quality sliders can change a lot of that as well.
