I saw Tom Petty at Blossom Music Center and again on his final tour in 2017 in Cleveland. I saw him in the 1990’s in New Orleans. I saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO in Detroit. I saw Steve Winwood 3 times over the years. Pure rock and roll geniuses one and all.
George Harrison wrote this when he was in The Beatles. Dhanni is his son and looks a lot like him. This was performed at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. George and Prince were inducted the same day. He was also in the suoerstar group The Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. I believe it was Rolling Stone magazine that had just put out a list of the top 100 guitar players and Prince wasn't on it. He played this and rubbed the snub in their face. Jeff was the dark hair that sang. He was in the band Electric Light Orchestra. They are doing a 40th anniversary tribute for Prince's Purple Rain in a few weeks 6/20-6/24. I believe his band The Revolution are going to play. I know that the New Power Generation are going to be playing. They are having special guests as well. They haven't announced them all. I have an idea of one. Morris Hayes, who is the musical director/keyboard player of NPG has played with him at his shows a few times. He has a show in Minneapolis on 6/25 so I'm just guessing he will play there. His closing song for most of he's shows is Purple Rain. He turned 15 yr old last week. He's gotten to the point now he's breaking a string every time he plays Parisienne Walkways at his shows. I hate to say he's good for 15, he's great at any age! ruclips.net/video/yafWzYfRtj0/видео.htmlsi=d5uOyRt_Vaox9b3x
The 15 yr old is Taj Farrant. He was the special guest star. He was able to tour Prince's home, record in Prince's recording studio, and listen to some of Prince's unreleased music that he has in the vault. Taj played at the free street fair they had for the fans. He also was the opening act for Morris Day and Prince's band NPG at the State Theater. Taj came out and played Purple Rain with NPG. He also played at Paisley Park the next day. Taj is the first artist to perform Purple Rain at Paisley Park, which wasn't associated with Prince or his estate. Taj always does a fantastic job. The song that was a standout to me was him covering a rarely heard Prince song The Ride. He was asked to perform it by one of Prince's estate managers; I guess that is his title; Charles Spicer Jr. asked Taj to perform it. His performance of it at the State Theater was incredible! It was fun and cheeky for a 15 yr old. Everyone loved it!
I was lucky enough to see Tom Petty in Toledo Ohio. 1980. I had that concert t shirt until I lost it when my house flooded a few years ago. Prince could play anything he touched. Such talent. My list is 1. StevieT 2. Prince 3. Eddie VanHalen. Thank you Lee. Big Gooch. :)
The song was written by ex-Beatles member George Harrison. His son Dhani (black hair) is next to Tom Petty (blonde hair). Jeff Lynne of ELO wears the bowler-type hat. Steve Winwood plays keyboards.
Perfect for my coffee break 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Such a classic song with a classic lineup The guy playing the Telecaster is Jeff Lynne for the band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)
Prince is my favorite artist ever. He should react to Prince's Batdance & Partyman extended video. He would be in heaven watching those videos as a Batman fan🤗
George Harrison was a member of the Beatles. This is a power house group of musicians, Petty, Lynne, Winwood, Prince and Dhani Harrison are also writers and producers and there have won Grammy Awards. This was George's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, on stage for this, the final, song were: * Tom Petty and his band the Heartbreakers’ Scott Thurston (playing bass) and drummer Steve Ferrone. * Jeff Lynne (ELO - Electric Light Orchestra) and Marc Mann his guitarist who performs the first solo. Jeff is also Dhani Harrison’s, George’s son, godfather * Stevie Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith, Traffic and solo career on organ and Jim Capaldi percussion who was a member of Traffic with Winwood. * Billy Preston on piano, he played keyboards with the Beatles as well as having a solo career. * Dhani Harrison (George’s son), he looks so much like his dad at that age. * Prince, who was also a Hall of Fame inductee that year.
You should check out Steve Winwood "Roll With It" sometime. He's the one on the keyboards for this. Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O.) is the one doing the lead vocals along with Tom Petty. They were both a part of a supergroup in the 80s called Traveling Wilburys. It consisted of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. And, yes, Prince will always be a musician among the very best in every area.
While Steve Winwood has already been inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic, he really needs to be inducted as a solo artist as well.
Prince didn’t rehearse this. That solo was all in his head. He didn’t know until about 20 minutes before going on stage. Since Prince was also being inducted that year into the Rock n Roll hall of Fame, Tom Petty said we should ask him if he wants to join us. Of course he said yes. And at first he was going to do the middle, short solo. But the guy that actually did it, said that Prince should take the end solo, he’s the star and being inducted. Petty asks if he is ok with the that. Prince said “I got this.” And the rest is history. That solo sounded like it was written for that song originally, that’s how genius he is. OH! Not long before this show, Rolling Stone magazine put out a ranking of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. Prince wasn’t on it. This performance, and him show boating a little, was a fuck you to Rolling Stone. The following year, he was #47. 💜 George Harrison wrote this song while the band was going through some rough patches, before they split. If you know that, the lyrics make sense. He’s looking at them all, and their love is sleeping. Because too much drama. It’s actually a little sad. George was sad about their relationships in the group drifting.
You make me feel old, and I'm a millennial... Also, tele is the OG guitar. Such a beautiful sounding and versatile guitar. Best clean tone, and Prince shows how amazing they can sound with some stank on it. Strats are cool for sure, but tele for the win. Dude from Slipknot even plays a tele, they're that versatile. Good vid though. I'm not trying to hate on you or anything. Cheers.
The Beatles: 600 Million Records Sold, Prince 100 million, Tom Petty 60,000,000 , JEFF LYNNE'S ELO sold over 420,000 albums, STEVE WINWOOD sold over 18,937,646 albums, GEORGE HARRISON sold over 9,559,000 albums.
you have include all ELO's record sales not just Jeff Lynne's ELO as Jeff wrote, produced and performed 98% of their records. Album sales are about 60 million at least.👍 God knows how many other album sales he contributed to on top of that, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Beatles anthology, travelling Wilburies, Roy Orbison, etc.🤷
Not a fan of the style of the telecaster either , but no matter when it sounds that good . The lyrics dude are explained when said “zen like “ and “I look to the floor and I see it needs sweeping “ it’s metaphorical for a cleansing of the spirit “while my guitar gently weeps “ the souls yearning for that cleanse, but not actually getting it ✌🏼

OMG dude, your lack of musical history is stunning, ...not familar with Winwood, Lyne, Petty and EVEN Harrison?? Lol, I'm not trying to be a dick, but these guys are ALL TIME greats! OK maybe I'm aging myself, but I know the greats from generations before me..Rosetta Thorpe, Johnny Cash, B.B. King...these are the traiilblazers before my time, but I know who they are.
Prince had been dropped from the top 100 guitarists list. He was supposed to drop off after a short solo. Just had to be a temper tantrum ): If you are a musician you will see/hear the cues to switch out.
Well, I’m wondering if they actually don’t know. I always get amazed when people tell me they don’t know anything about the Beatles or members of the Beatles. I came 20 years after the Beatles and I still know who George Harrison is/was. I’m not even a fan of the Beatles and I still know something about them. I’m just amazed that people don’t do their research before they have a look at the video. But I’m not sure if it’s the first time I’ve seen it & they going in blindly.
The Craziest thing is everyone KILLED and then Prince did something I'm not sure how to describe.
They all sound great…. and Prince is just utterly fantastic!
I saw Tom Petty at Blossom Music Center and again on his final tour in 2017 in Cleveland. I saw him in the 1990’s in New Orleans.
I saw Jeff Lynne’s ELO in Detroit.
I saw Steve Winwood 3 times over the years.

Oh and .. I LOVE when Jeff Lynn sings “O don’t know whyyyyyeyy…” beautiful note.

Tom petty actually has the perfect voice for this song. Has that same vibe to his voice like George
Sooo true 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
His Guitar is actually a Hohner Mad Cat .
YES. TY. 1st thing I was going to write! And why didn't the guy watch the 2021 remastered video?
Prince is my favorite artist ever. He should react to Prince's Batdance & Partyman extended video. He would be in heaven watching those videos as a Batman fan🤗
Mine too!
See if you can find out how many instruments he played lol, dude was insane haha
You can see Prince standing on the sad.
With a red hat on

Sad this needs explaining !!!
Prince is probably my favourite guitarist, with Jimi Hendrix & Vernon Reid completing the top 3.
Billy Preston play with The Beatles on a regular basis.
Prince this killed it
THANK YOU!! Finally someone mentions Billy Preston, bless your heart!!
Great line up. Love Dhani face before the musical gen5 Prince plays.
It really was a great line up robin 🙂, thanks for watching 😁
All of the rock star showed up to this tribute.

That is not a Telecaster, it’s a Hohner. Prince’s favorite guitar.

I wish Prince would have gone crowd surfing while playing his solo,
This is NOT a crowd surfing kind of song!,,
