I've had a break from listening this podcast for like a halve a year, and it has been a joy getting back into the podcast. The mailbag segments/ episodes are such a fun addition, they really fit the podcast well. So happy to be back 🤗
I am terrified of rides and always have been. My husband is scared if nothing but bo longer fits! My two sons are not afraid either! I sas always ashamed of my fears, as I have loads and tried to face them but it never worked and now I never have to go on one again- yeahhhhhh!
Would love to see a vlog of the Triforce boys going to a theme park or something, could just imagine Lewis and Sips screaming while Pyrion laughs manically
It would be a whole lot less interesting if they were right. Oh and while I'm here in the most popular comment:- Pyrion, I am most disappointed you did no "live from my hotel/bathrobe" morning podcasts, when in Sweden covering the majors. You shall be hearing from my barrister.
this was a great episode, definitely one of my favs in a while. i hadn't thought about sips' last name, lovasz, but of course it's eastern european, like lov-ash
23:50 So what damages DNA in sun light is UV radiation as you probably know. UV radiation basically goes straight through some parts but can hit random things along the way. Some of that will be DNA: That might lead to buts of DNA being "cut" and if you are very unlucky it could be just the right bit of DNA to create a tumor. Very unlikely but if you are exposed a lot there is a lot of radiation doing that a lot of times. Heat is something completely different that usually does not damage DNA. What it does is denature various biomolecules. Basically lots of heat causes them to loose their structure and essentially destroys them. Also affects DNA but the end product is actually destroyed rather than damaged in a way that might modify what it produces. As to what Lewis said yes there is a lot of different stuff that might cause cancer with vastly different mechanisms. Carcinogenic substances usually bind to DNA in some manner. UV light likes to cause certain bases to bind to each other which often leads to repair mechanisms removing those bases. It also indirectly causes damage by creating free radicals that oxidize DNA (and other biomolecules). Ionizing radiation eg Chernobyl can do the same but also worse as it is more energy intensive. It can cause thing like DNA strands breaking and if you are unlucky completely breaking apart which often causes major mutations in those cells. Cancer is actually very unlikely to develop from any single mutation. For it to happen a cell needs very specific mechanisms to be knocked out mainly the one that prevents cells from growing when they are surrounded by others. The bodies many defenses against cancer also need to be avoided with just the right mutations. However we actually have a lot of mutations. Easily 100k every day. That adds up and all that´s needed is a single cell with the right combination of mutations.
While I still have my leg... I tore my ACL and interior ligaments in my knee... made me very sympathetic for people who actually lose a limb. Liked your guys discussion on it
Heat burns are from the outside in, radiation is from the inside out. Thats why after being exposed to lots of sun even if you dont think you have a burn take a cold enough shower/soak to make your muscles cold and you can usually avoid the burn.
Wondering if anyone can help. The triforce boys put an episode out not that long ago where prion and sips briefly made jokes about the "vibe"of an AK being off or something. Anyone know the episode in talking about?
36:00 Don't read this if ya don't wanna be sad, but I recall not long ago a child was decapitated on a waterslide. And it was a normal child, not a tall kid.
Er, the people of NI are the ones who decide whether NI is part of the UK or Ireland. That's a constitutional commitment in good faith, it's not up to Ireland or GB to "keep" NI.
There really is no such thing, as "heat damage" (thermal radiation). its just damage, heat damages the cells by causing increased vibration on an atomic level (photons hitting you), at high levels this causes proteins to un-bind, and all sorts of cellular damage, including DNA damage (although because its thermal radiation it doesn't really penetrate that far into your body + your body works hard to prevent it from doing so) Other types of radiation caused by particles, is more dangerous, because TLDR, you because the waves have no electric charge, they can "sort of pass through" matter, and depending on the wavelength and energy, it can inpact cells inside your body. (think of it like a depth charge), that is also how radiology works, and how you can target a certain "depth" inside a person. But pretty much both mess you up by destroying your cells. welcome to science lessons half remembered
The youtuber "fascinating horror" has a Playlist of accidents at theme parks including one on the accident on the Disney Disneyland monorail it dose Happen just very very rarely
Yeah, it's not just that they hide it. They couldn't stay in business if their rides weren't very safe. Don't tempt fate, obviously. The guidelines exist for a reason. But there isn't any real need to be afraid of injury if you aren't being stupid. Flax is right that the car ride is much more dangerous.
The Queen looks frail and lost lot of weight...they again her Mum lived even longer...another 10 years might be to come. Hahaha P.S. it's Abbey Wood up to Heathrow...the ends are bit boring. They connect via old stations with brand spanking new interchanges
Cattle farmers saying they treat their animals well? hmm, where have we heard that before. Oh yeah, the same thing that all the factory farms say. At least Elwood's Organic Dog Meat is honest enough to admit it. Yet, when you investigate, or get whistleblowers, there's always undeniable proof of animal abuse, both through, and external to industrial practises. Even then, with all my understanding of critical thinking and logic, I cannot see any justification to use animals for trivial purposes when a cheaper more ethical and sustainable (Possibly healthier), maybe even tastier, alternative exists. Animal farming is barbaric, and I would go as far as to say it's probably a bigoted view to see animals as less than sentient.
Well I mean you only hear about the couple investigations that result in finding animal abuse. A lack of news isn’t newsworthy, and cow factory farms are extremely uncommon. Factory farms in general suck, but to say that animals eating grass in their natural habitat is unethical would just mean that they would just turn into zoo animals for people to gawk at, and the herds would disappear
Obi-Wan is not super terrible. I think it's just a bit inconsistent because the showrunner doesn't have a sharp enough vision for the show. The logic in each episode just seems a bit sloppy. As for The Witcher, that show isn't bad at all. It's fine.
I used to advise people on tanning because getting a healthy dose is vital and good for almost all people. The biggest risk is burning yourself, you should absolutely avoid burning. If you know you're going to be out in strong sunlight for longer than your skin can manage you should use some sort of protection. In my personal opinion, you're better off avoiding creams if you can, but you should always choose creams over burning.
And just like your name implies, you're clueless. It's not about "burning", it's about UV radiation destroying your DNA. Don't need a sunburn for that. Sun creams and lotion contain additives that absorb that harmful radiation, making it safe for humans.
A healthy dose of tanning? Tanning is the skin's reaction to damage. The only "healthy" thing about it is that it can lessen the same type of damage in the future. It's not terribly useful, though. According to the US Surgeon General, it's the equivalent of roughly SPF 3. Obviously avoiding burns is helpful, but you really don't even have to tan to get skin cancer from sun exposure. Healthy dose of Vitamin D? Yes, but you can get plenty even with sunscreen. I don't wear sunscreen unless I'm going to be in the sun a lot, and you can see it on my face. I should, but I don't. I'm not preachy about it. But it's wholly untrue that tanning offers any reasonable benefit, and it's dangerous to spread the myth. Why do you believe creams should be avoided? I haven't previously heard that claim, so I'm curious.
@@knitterknerd Hi. The production of Melanin is a natural reaction to sun exposure, and the more you have the more protected you will be. Sunscreen is often full of things that if there was utter transparency in the world you would be recommended to not put on your skin, petroleum based chemicals for example that will cause carcinogenic reactions. There's a whole lot of industry behind what we've all been led to believe on this subject just like many others. I would say trust me but instead I would recommend reading the work of Dr Richard Hobday, who is the leading scientist on the subject, and disregard what the US Surgeon General tells you about more or less everything... but you do you :)
@@thaddeusbeadle6546 You don't need to go out in the sun atall to get cancer. Any exposure to UV will cause cancer? Are you clinically diagnosed as insane? The burn not only hurts and sucks to get, but it prevents the skin from proper recovery from the exposure. This can lead to replication of the wrong DNA... You see where this is going?
It was so wholesome when flax’s daughter interrupted.
His kids listen to the podcast. But only his side😂

I love hearing stories of flax and his kids!!
"Lovasz" in hungarian means the leader person at a stable who manages the horses. The correct writing is Lovász.
No, actually you 3 are wrong. Anyways let's listen to todays episode
Nice, getting it out of the way early.
And with this comment the random bitching was reduced by 95%.

They've pretty much insured that the youngest royal siblings will murder their older siblings for a chance at the crown. Now the girls aren't safe. 😂

How the fuck are you guys coming up with a kind of format after 200+ episodes ahahahahaha
