I think you mean underviewed. Underrated means something that is rated lower than is should be. But it seems as though on forums I find online, everyone knows Monster, but I can't find anyone in real life who's seen it.
I respect the production team that they didn't use a typical anime song or J-rock artist for the opening. Ths music and image blew my mind when I saw it for the first time. I would get thrilled every time the first verse started.
Best thing about the opening is at the beginning it just looks cool, you have transactions from scene to scene. But as you watch more episodes you see to what part the scenes belong to, so you are recapping what has happened every time you watch the intro
The part when Johan turned around always sent chills down my spine. I really loved this series. First anime to ever create a character that was truly terrifying without going over the top. Urasawa is just a fantastic writer his other stories are wonderful too. 20th/21st century boys comes to mind. Great pieces all of them.
I really enjoyed this anime and I like that they kept the intro music the same for each episode. My favorite part of the the intro is when it gets to 0:56 where the music turns darker when it shows Johan.

Ah, the memories. Ah, the experience, the emotions... My heart jumped as the opening began. I miss it. So very much. But i can hardly find time to sit and watch all of the 74 episodes now. And i've seen it whole 9 times when i was in a period when i had all the time in the world. One of the greatest experiences for me in my life and the greatest series ever. It lingers in me to this day. This can never be forgotten.
What the anime studios said: Should we make some loud in-your-face J-pop song? No. A loud in your face English-song? No. How about a quiet, haunting, opening with no singing whatsoever? Fucking, yes.

This is literally a perfect opening. It captures the tone and feel that this show was going for to the fullest extent. The music, especially during the portion with Johan growing up with the blood on the window, is phenomenal. This opening literally captures the essence of the story better than the actual plot and characters of the story do, it's that good.
I can't recall what brought me to do it, but I picked up this series while I was at home for two weeks, bedridden with Mono. Honestly one of the best decisions I could have ever made. The entire cast and gripping story made me forget about how crummy I felt every episode. Now definitely in my top 3 anime of all time.

If there wasn't bouncing boobs everywhere, we wouldn't appreciate shows like this as much. Plus, when you're out of genuinely good shows, might as well watch 12 episodes of harem trash until the next season. Granted, I'm 14, so I can stand it statistically 167% more than the average Monster fan.
Kold_Blooded_Killer Death Note isn't bad on its own, but when compared to Monster it's like a show for kids. Personally, I like both, but Monster >>>>> Death Note.

I'm close to hitting my aimed mark of watching a thousand films, tv series, documentaries, etc of which I ponder and rate. Only an estimated 30 made my personal 10/10. Two of which are anime. This is one of them.

In most anime I tend to skip the intro after a while, even when they do switch it up after a certain season, i'll watch the new intro once and then skip till they change it again. But this is one intro that I never skipped, and I rather found the opera music playing alongside the scenes to be pleasant, it never got old despite being the same one for the entirety of the anime.
This anime is more than those usual anime which is just for fun. Monster is something else i want everyone to just watch this anime patiently for just once

Before watching Monster I've heard about it once when searching for psychological anime and I honestly thought it would be very boring (that was 1 year ago I think). But when I started watching it a few weeks ago I was so in love. Like, I watched a few episodes and thought they were pretty good, so I took a break of like 5 days or so but then I just thought "Man, I really have to know what happens next...". That never happened to me when watching an anime. So I watched more and more and more and before I even realised, the 74 episodes left me crying and thinking about life.
i can't take it anymore i need to sample this and turn it into a beat. i found a few remixes online but i didnt take to any of them. I love this anime but this theme song has a groove to it that i cant explain.
One of the most perfect anime openings, it really captures a great deal. Though I'd recommend the manga over the anime, it just feels so much stronger to me.

I watch this in dub, as while I am a sub watcher, I can't deal with 70 straight episodes of it, especially with a plot like this one. So I love it, its amazing, but I still can't get over the fact that Tenma shares the voice actor with a certain Earl of Pudding. I can't listen to him without thinking, "Ah-Haaaaa!"

+Sarah Johnston Madhouse pretty much adapted everything panel for panel. Which is rare because you don't usually see such a perfect adaption.
It probably hurt the anime to have such a frame for frame adaptation since the pacing was way too drawn out, especially the slow middle-end area.

This anime aired from the late 1990 to early 2000's which was before j-trash was mainstream.
Anime aired from 2004 to 2005, the manga ran from 1994 to 2001.

yeh, whe i saw death note, i thought it was an anime in another level, but then i saw monster, i loved how deep the story in monster is, then when i compare these 2, monster felt well written and more mature

Love this opening, the way how it feels so haunting, yet calm. Monster was just...wow. I've never seen any animated show like it, and I don't think I ever will find one.

if HBO ever makes the live action series of Monster, I hope they use the theme song. it fits the series perfectly
this is so good, we do not get anime like this anymore and if we do it is very rare.extremely rare but it is a joy to find it

Hi, I’m a newcomer to this series, and I’m hooked. Unfortunately I don’t have any way of watching this anime, but I plan to order and read the manga when it’s back in stock on Amazon. Monster seems like a brilliant series with, from what I’ve seen, a devoted fan base. Can’t wait.
In my opinion, monster has the best aesthetics in the whole anime genre. It's moody vibe while everything at all times feels mysterious is amazing.

In most anime I tend to skip the intro after a while, even when they do switch it up after a certain season, i'll watch the new intro once and then skip till they change it again. But this is one intro that I never skipped, and I rather found the opera music playing alongside the scenes to be pleasant, it never got old despite being the same one for the entirety of the anime.
This anime is a masterpiece!! Johan still gives me the creeps OMG! And I love this opening. But I can't find it on Spotify.

The Monster anime was created in 2004, so that's kind of impossible.

Before watching Monster I've heard about it once when searching for psychological anime and I honestly thought it would be very boring (that was 1 year ago I think).
But when I started watching it a few weeks ago I was so in love. Like, I watched a few episodes and thought they were pretty good, so I took a break of like 5 days or so but then I just thought "Man, I really have to know what happens next...". That never happened to me when watching an anime. So I watched more and more and more and before I even realised, the 74 episodes left me crying and thinking about life.
i can't take it anymore i need to sample this and turn it into a beat. i found a few remixes online but i didnt take to any of them. I love this anime but this theme song has a groove to it that i cant explain.
So underated, Del Toro wants to make this into a movie or TVs show it would be an awesome show

One of the most perfect anime openings, it really captures a great deal. Though I'd recommend the manga over the anime, it just feels so much stronger to me.

I watch this in dub, as while I am a sub watcher, I can't deal with 70 straight episodes of it, especially with a plot like this one. So I love it, its amazing, but I still can't get over the fact that Tenma shares the voice actor with a certain Earl of Pudding. I can't listen to him without thinking,
"Ah-Haaaaa!"

I like how in the end of this opening Tenma finds himself in a deserted land.. very similar to Kira in Death Note opening 2
