Awesome videos but I keep getting this weird bug were the audio is out of sync the moment I change the speed. The first time I did it it worked fine but I tried doing it again a few seconds later and the audio gets out of sync. It's really frustruating I dont know what else to do or what I'm doing wrong, hope you or someone else can help!
This is why I love RUclips, is meeting people like you, I’ve been wanting to know how to do this on Davinci resolve for quite a while now and here you are appearing out of nowhere like I feel so blessed today for seeing this in my notifications thank you so much for this video.
Clearly explained. No waffle. No one asking, 'What's up?' From my point of view it's great as, although it is concise, it's also slow enough for those who sometimes struggle. Well done and thanks.
I have watched many videos on speed ramping and this is BY FAR the best one I have seen. So simple and clear and covers everything. I am not a man of great financial resources but I have bought you a coffee, this is not the first video of yours that has helped me lately.
Had to come back to re-watch as I'd forgotten a few key points. I appreciate how you simply show how to do it and don't waste the viewers time by trying to refine the details as if it were a final edit. You show the technique and leave it at that.
This kind of tutorial is my kind of tutorial. Short, straight to the point, easy to understand. I get quite impatient with long videos because I just want to see how it’s done, not a long essay video. Subbed!
Yeah unfortunately some creators are making their videos longer than necessary these days, in the belief that it gets more views and enables more monetisation. But I really like these straight-to-the-point, no waffle tutorials that just teach the one thing I want to know. Thank you Alex.
thank you so much Alex. other tutorials assume that the viewer knows more than we actually do, but you make sure to break down every step for us. thats why you are the best!!
Short sweet and simple covers all the points, good speaking style, no superfluous blah blah blah and no needlessly long intro! Thanks for the great tutorial!
i'm from italy and use DaVinci only from six mounths..I found your tutorial very easy and precious for learning.. you ste the best davinci's blogger..thank you
For those looking to save a few clicks. You can also use Retime Frame to smooth out the speed transitions. Just use the curve tool there. Depending on the clip it is not as obvious and granular as the retime speed view, but for simple stuff good enough.
This is PERFECT for me! I'm in the middle of making a video where the video needs to stop ten times. I didn't like abruptness of each stop/start and this will let me smooth it out. Also, mega top tip that the top handle allows a change to any speed %.
thanks for the quick and to the point video. up right now editing at 10:30 pm when i need to be up at 4am. doing work with footage from my new canon r6. very excited to have this new info!
Thanks ! I’ve been going about it in such a more complicated way and then grading was a pain. I should have thought to RUclips it long before since DaVinci really is amazing. Great content man.
Annnnnd that's why i subscribe to your page. EVERY other video on this shows another drop down menu which confused the crap out of me because I wasn't seeing it. You are a legend! Thank you !
Hi Alex just want say how much I enjoy your training videos. Without a doubt you are one of the best trainers out there. Down to earth, easy to understand and you seem an all round nice guy. Well done and keep 'em coming.
Just to be clear, make sure to set your video to 'slow motion' before you start messing with Speed Ramps. It's much easier this way. I simply amend the clips 'Clip Attributes' (as show in my Slow Motion tutorial video) and then import it to the timeline so then it's already in nice, slow-mo and ready to use.
Thanks to JayAreTV for pointing out that you can go in the inspector tab for the clip and select Retime And Scaling > Retime Process > Optical Flow, which does some kind of interpolation to smooth out super time expanded clips and avoid that herky jerky, stuttering motion.
Really well explained. What I seem to struggle with is aligning the speed ramp to match a music track, I’d love to see a video on that to see if there’s anything I could do better than I am now.
Hello, I've just got into video editing and your content is amazing. I've been binge watching your channel and it has helped me so much. I just wanted to say how appreciated your videos are.
THAT LAST MINUTE WAS ALL I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!!!! THANKS! I was already getting ready to go disappointed to look for another video that would explain it. Though those first minutes were really good too! It's just that it is a bit harder to apply to gaming content and it wasn't what I needed😅.
Thank you very much, been avoiding using DaVinci for nearly a year after not being able to 'find' a premiere pro that works. Wish id looked at your videos months ago. Subscribed! !
One feature you overlooked mentioning is the ability to fill a fixed gap by hovering the mouse over the clip banner near the upper left or upper right corners. This reveals a left/right arrow that allows you to click and drag to resize to fit. Another well thought out and handy feature. The retime effect is an involved one to get proficient with, but well worth the effort as it is powerful and useful.
Brilliant video! I've just started using DR (was a former Vegas Pro guy) and your video saved me a lot of grief. I have an audio track that was sped up (higher BPM) than the corresponding video it was from. So this meant that parts of the video needed to be sped up so that the audio lyrics synced with the lips on the screen. I've been trying to figure it out until I saw your video and you not only showed it clearly, but your explanation was very clear and thorough! Seeing as you do so many DR vids, I feel like you can teach me a lot. Subscribed - You're nearly there, so let's get you to 100K and that nice shiny badge!
I love your 5 Minute Friday tutorials! Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching. I've learned so much in the past couple of weeks from you and a few others. I might learn this program yet. Thanks for all you do to help.
Cheers Sean! I'm so glad to hear that you've been enjoying the videos and getting something from them. I'll try my best to keep them coming 😄 Thanks for watching, Alex🙂
@@MrAlexTech You are most welcome. It's been a pleasure to watch your videos. They're not too long, yet they get the concept across in an enjoyable manner. I'm very new to Davinci Resolve so seeing an easily understandable video on it is welcome. I'm editing my sister's first RUclips video and I generally go to your videos for things I'm having difficulty creating.
That controller at the top seems like it eliminates the need for trial-and-error if you're trying to synk up particular events in the footage with, say, specific points in a piece of music. You set your speed points at the pivotal moments in the video footage, and then you just use the top controls to move those visual events to their proper places in relation to the soundtrack. Easy-peasy. Very cool.
seriously appreciate the video! this video alone is making me switch from hitfilm. its a god damn NIGHTMARE to reverse/ramp/change speeds in that program
I'm switching over from Premiere Pro to Davinci Resolve. I really like you tutorials. Quick and to the point. Thanks so much, will probably make the switch easier.
I certainly saw something smooth speed change at somewhere, so searched it very much. Now it's here I found. You teach me the speed ramp in so easy way. Thank you very much.
I don't know if it's your voice or presentation style, but you make things so simple and easy to understand and execute. I dreaded learning about DaVinci after leaving Premiere Pro, but you have literally saved my life 😂
WOW, that's so easy to do speed ramps in DR 😍🤤👏 In Premiere Pro it's really frustrating to do speed ramps. I just moved to DaVinci Resolve a few days ago, after using Premiere Pro for many years... Fun in editing is back!
If you enjoyed this video, check out this one next 😊👍

how can i delete a speed point?

You're most welcome Bernard. I'm glad you managed to find my channel and that the tutorial was useful to you. Hopefully my videos will be as well 😊👍
I felt excatly the same Bernard :)

Excellent video! No screwing around and talking too much! RIGHT to the point!

You are definitely the best teacher for Resolve. Great style and huge knowledge. Thank you.
totally agree with this!
Approaching 3 years later, and now that I'm learning Resolve I have found this. I have Subscribed and will be watching your other videos. Thank you.

Thanks Mewbot 👍
I have watched a number of videos on this topic but I learnt far more from your great presentation than I ever had previously. Well done.
Great tutorial man! Learning how to edit on DaVinci now instead of premiere so this video was super helpful!!
Thanks ! I’ve been going about it in such a more complicated way and then grading was a pain. I should have thought to RUclips it long before since DaVinci really is amazing. Great content man.
i hate me for fearing this software for it's million buttons and menus but you really make it look intuitive
OMG! I want to go back and change all of my videos to show that gradual change of speed! Awesome thanks.
That was a perfect explanation. You are the 5th video I watched. This covered all point succinctly and thoroughly. Double kudos!!
Thanks Paul :) I'm glad it did the trick. 👌
Thank you so much for this tutorial. This is exactly what I was looking for!
Thank you so much! I was used to editing in Premiere, so amost everything in Resolve is new to me. Your tutorial helped me a lot.

So to be honest, Resolve has the most convenient way of speed ramping. It just works as one would expect it to work.
