thanks for info, have a prosperous new year, always watching.
I ended up getting a Z370-E anyway, Haven't OC'd it yet on just got my 8700k and put the system together, having someone to test this stuff is pretty helpful, appreciate it mate.
i just popped the caps on 2 different z370-a prime boards. they can't handle pushing the 8700k. asrock board on the way.
Cheers for the update during the hols Tom, hope you had a good one.
Sorry, Im not good in English, can you confirm, the problem is gone with new bios? Thank you very much!
T, you are a machine, and the best tech-tuber out there. I am so glad I found your channel so many moons back. Hands down, your technical knowledge is valued as even ASUS listens to you and that is huge
Thank you for the followup Tom! Much appreciated!
I have to say this... You are the best mobo reviewer in my mind!!! Thanks for all the information and keep it going👍.
Excellent update & good advice to always update drivers....”PC 101 indeed! “. Thx, Cheers.
Can indeed confirm with the lastest bios version on my Asus Strix Z370-F Gaming. Set the vCore at 1.25 for my 8700k at 4.8Ghz and with LLC level 6 keeps the voltage at 1.248 under load during a prime95 test so they did fix it. LLC level 7 indeed adds way too much and the others seem pointless, but as long as 1 of the LLC's works that's good enough.
I love your honest reviews - keep up the great work - I love and TRUST your channel to be honest and un-biased Thank You !
I always appreciate your fair play with reviews and I know they take time to compile, so no rush, get yourself a few more beers in and start in earnest in the new year. BTW I think you have far too many Titan cards sitting there on your shelf - can I have one ? I know it would mess up your film set but I'm sure you'd manage ;)
I am wondering will we ever get ("pure")ROG - ITX boards again?
OC3D TV there was a bios update on my Z370f asus board from 0607 to 0612. I tested at my voltages on my overclock and I was able to lower them quite significantly after the update. Before the update I could achieve 5.0 at 1.42 nothing lower or bsod. Now i can go all the way down to 1.36 and stay 5ghz stable.
what are they showing in CPUz under load? Use HWmonitor to track them too
OC3D TV before the BIOS update it was showing 1.44 under LLC 7 and 1.39 to 1.408 under LLC 6 when I was setting the voltage to manual 1.42 volts 5ghz. I used cpu-z and hwmonitor with no issue on the voltage readings
OC3D TV let me also point out that my 5 ghz stable now is LLC 6 set to 1.38 volts in the Bios which as you know LLC 6 will vdroop it down to the 1.36 volts under load which is stable as hell currently. Very exciting bios update for stability but it seems it did not increase any overhead as I still can't achieve 5.2 at any voltage with temperatures I would like without blue screens
OC3D TV New update. During testing i noticed more stability. Dropped from LLC 6 to 5 drooping load voltages to 1.328 at 5ghz stable compared to 5ghz at 1.42
Der8auer has a guide for 5GHz overclock with maximus x hero. He recommended the level 6 on LLC.
level 5-6 should be okay, but do you really need 5ghz? some people would prefer 4.8-4.9 because of noise and temperature
I am considering a modest 4.5 GHz on all 6 cores. I might need to delid my cpu if I want to hit 5GHz while keeping low temps.
Ian Peng you need it for Arma 3 lol.
Asus X99 boards I have, use level 6 which gets the best results. Level 7 and above get positive VDroop.
I have 8700K on Hero X at 5Ghz. I think my LLC is on 6, Vcore reads as 1.264 consistently. Why not go for 5Ghz? You can set different profiles, one for day to day use that you know is solid, and others as work in progress to maximize CPU/RAM/Cache etc.
I love this channel. Thanks! I love my ROG Strix Gaming F. Didn't want the Wifi.
Thanks, really appreciate the update...
What are the chances of this? I was just thinking if they fixed this as it was originally on my list of parts for a new year PC build haha. Amazing timing, Tom! It looks like I can add it back to the list!
Using Strix Z370-F, bios 0606, LLC 6, perfect stable voltage.
at what OC?I'm asking because I'm planning to OC to 4.7ghz and wondering if I should do LLC 6 or go for 4-5.
Where do you find the time Tom? i finally updated my old aging Q6600 P5k WS Asus rig, but for the money i had no choice but to pick out the budget friendly MSI sli plus Z370 mobo, paired it with a budget friendly 8350K and 8 gig of ram only had 400 quid, i have to say last 5 days has been omg in comparison. However i have to also say its running 4.7ghz at a mere 1.25 volts with an aio 240 rad keeping everything nice and cool, have not noticed any and i do mean any deviation in the boards delivery of power. Was worried as i have only ever had Asus boards and Intel branded boards but that's way way way back when 500 mhz cpu's were the new beasts on the block. Love the vids keep em coming i am looking later on this year in getting a better cpu and mobo. Keeping the old Q6600 in non oc rig for home server use, its served me very well these last 7 years.
I cant remember the last time I used a driver CD, I always go directly to manufacturers website to download the latest and greatest drivers and software. Driver CD's are really an outdated concept with more and more cases lacking 5.25in drive bays and we live in an online world, everything is online and on-demand, we don't even install the OS from a CD anymore.
I bought the max x hero just cause the vrm I also like the water cooling zone and the extreme fan headers
@TinyTom bossman please can you do me the biggest favor? Ive been trying to contact ASRock for the past week to tell them the LLC on the z370 Pro4 , is broken aswell. Please Tom! this is the only thing I’ve ever asked from you. can you Relay the message to your ASRock contact? Thanks in advance, love the channel! Cheers!
Can ya help me out, Tom?
Thanks Tom
What is LLC? and should I even touch this setting if I'm not going to OC my i7 8700k? I just want to use my cpu at stock for now but I also don't want the v core on the motherboard to destroy my cpu by going up by itself. Sorry Im a Noob I just need some clarification here. The mobo I will be using is the strix z370-E. Thanks!
Ancient_Ys idk if you already bought the stuff, but if you dont plan on oc, then I personally would not spend the extra money on a k series chip and a z series board.
On my Maximus X Code I have to set it to 6 for no Vdroop. No lvl 3 or 4
Die Kartoffel even on LLC 6 on this board I still get vdroop and on seven I get V boost
It's very rare that a motherboard can do Level LLC. You'll either get small amounts of Vdroop or Vboost
Joseph Barker I was coming to the same consensus during my learning period.
I am confused !!
WHY NO MILLION SUBS !!!!
Unfortunately MANY boards had those issues with LLC. Asrock extreme 4 for example.
Could you say something about the AVX Offset bug? As far as I know, nearly every board had that issue. description: When you activate the AVX Offset, it will not only reduce clocks when calculating AVX workloads, but also in games and other non-AVX applications. Clock speed will then be very bumpy and constantly jump between the normal OC Clock and the reduced AVX Offset clock.
on the Maximus X Apex the french overclocker Wizerty found that the lvl5 you had a bit of Vdrop and on lvl6 it was rising too much and said that a 5.5 would have been needed ! XD ( for thoses who understand french you can look at his stream #5 he posted the 02/01/2018) where he bin 3x 8700k and was seeing the problem during the pre-bin setup.
i know you like fixed voltage Tom, but i'd love to see you tackle "adaptive voltage" on these boards. it used to work so well on the z170 / z270 boards. it's total garbage on the z370 prime boards and i'd assume it's the same with these. asus has lost a long time customer over this. intel rushed this launch and i actually think they've used the older board designs and it can't handle the extra power requirements. no wonder intel wouldn't let the older chipsets use the coffee lake chips. power / heat mongers...
not just the strix bios was bad. my maximus x code had many bugs, which the bios update a couple weeks back fixed, all drive slots were being read wrong, no boot from m.2 when in slot 1, even with port 1 of the sata not used. and OC would not work. to name a couple
but if we bricked the mobo during bios update, would the manufacturers provide warranty?!
Tech Z BIOS yes OC depends on them
It's a shame that Asus isn't able to put up a good fight in the low-mid range of motherboards.
But then again their highend stuff is amazing so I guess it evens out.
god bless the channel! name of the benchmark rig?
man when is this board coming out shyt caint find it no where
I have one of these on order so i hope it is.
And what about the X370-F ?
I just completed my Maximus Apex X build and downloaded the 0801 bios and I saw a few days ago there was a 0901 beta bios available. I never use beta bios until it is fully released. So I just flashed the latest 0901 BIOS. Don't know what they changed. Anyone know what was changed or improved on?
Here Is my problem with the z370 gaming f. At 1.37v my 8700k frm throttles, unless I turn off protection.
ASUS marketing at its best. Put STRIX on the label, charge more for it, and don't change a damn thing. I gave up on ASUS a long time ago. Even when their BIOS "works", it is the worst in the industry.
IMPORTANT you want vdroop or you will kill you cpu overtime having a "flat" voltage is bad vdroop is meant to happen
hey guys, i want to buy a z370 mini itx, asus striz z370-i solved problem with bios? i can buy it or choose other competitor like msi z370i carbon pro ac(it laks on second m.2 slot) ???
Does this matter if I'm just going with a i5 8400?
My z270a prime does the same shit in offset mode with power saving on. So annoying back in the sandy/ivy days there was maybe 0.03-0.04v fluctuation under load with a midrange LLC. Now it's 0.06-0.08v fluctuation under load. Frustrates the hell out of me.
HOODedDutchman without overclock do the same thing?
it still doesn't work on the strix-H , i don't usually buy a board under 250.00, i am regretting it now
Happy New Year 2018....
What about the z370h ?
MSFerrari248F1 Im looking the buy the H myself. I love the colors
i have a z370 g matx have very high temps and getting high voltage also, i update the bios but still voltage going higher than manual set
Hey Tom is this done and dusted or still...
Hello there i have strix z370 e gaming and wondering why my 4.6 - 4.8 reach above 90c during stress test in instant thats why i stop it right away im searching all over the place and finally found your first review about strix z370 is rant and this .. do you have preferred settings that you can link or tell for me to able to overclock my 8600k to atleast 4.6 or if i had a chance to 4.8 ? I litteraly do everything upto changing my thermal paste and its still worse temp in 1.3v and below
I humbly begging for your help mate :( please notice me .. and thank you so much for giving a light to my problem!
Specs:
8600k
Z370 E Gaming
Captain 240ex RGB
Even a overclocking video that you can recommend or note that i need to know before doing it again aside to all youve discuss on the video would be much appreciated .. or if you have overclocking tutorial series please do it with this board haha im really shock how brave u are exposing the flaws to this board that why u get my 101% trust
is this anything like brewers droop?
Hi, this issue that is being discussed here is it even relevant for me if I don't oc and Just leave my cpu at stock? (i7 8700k)
Still relevant - if you update the BIOS to the latest it is now fixed though.
OC3D TV thanks :)
Is strix G the same VRM ?
Any difference today?
Anyone try the newest BIOS from 2 weeks ago?

First? Maybe? Idk eitherway keep up the good work!!!
Yep

Would I ask a question about 'your' bios settings... AMD cool and Quiet, both the C settings for AMD CPU's are.... Well let's just say 'out dated' ... Sure they work great for a laptop to conserve power... But what as far as what would be the correct way to turn them off and on and how they affect the "default," clock setting.... and I know this is really a Pentium (Intel) board being looked at but I do think it is worth mentioning how the Default clock changes when the AMD cool and Quiet and whatever those C settings are called... Not to mention how the boast 'amount' changes as well... All without touching the defaults on the clock.
