Legend - what a great location (threat of plummeting to an untimely death always enhances the excitement! 🤣) with awesome skies. There’s always room for at least a hip flask in a camera bag…
That pano is crazy! Love the dust in the upper part. Tho you should be holding a beer for a proper "John Rutter selfie" :D. 24mm and its sister lens, the 20mm are definetly suer lenses for astro - great optical performance and really light weight, which is just a bonus if you are doing long hikes.
"can't see myself going wider than 85mm" - you in 5 years! 😂😂 Ever thought about a Benro Polaris btw.? Great video!! Thanks for letting us hear your thoughts on that lens.
Stunning image John, great composition as always. I've driven past Coolah Tops many times, but never stopped to explore. Your video has now inspired me to search off the beaten track. 😁
Cool!! I like a touch of flash myself. Well done! Strange of the 24-Art. I tried the 24 & 28 art and bought the 28mm over the 24 as the latter had really strong coma where as the 28 did not. But, this was in Nkikon F mount flavor. Amazing Images!!
Another awesome set of images John, really love your down to earth approach and always informative. However I can only imagine how cold it was up there!
That's a great image John, crisp and clean and full of detail and colour. The location looks a bit hairy on Google Maps and worse on location at night. Probably a good thing you only had a few amber fluids on the shoot. 😊😎👌
Magnificent image and video John. Love your content and the sneaky beer 🙂. Was tossing up between the Sigma 20 or 24, think that decision is made, cheers.
Gotta have a sneaky little beer, for me the 20 is just a little to wide for my work whereas the 24 is a really good compromise for panos or single images
Great result John, hoping Sigma start producing lenses for the Nikon Z mount sometime soon. Been exploring a few techniques from your editing session on some images captured over the weekend. Pushing them harder than I would normally and loving the results so thanks for the inspo👍
That’s a great image John, Rho Ophiuchi and the Dark Horse above the mountain on the left has that little pip pointing to it, and the valley below gives depth and the selfie adds to the image. 👏👏
I always find your shots out of this world. I like my own Milky Way photos very much but man, you’re on another league. Congratulations! I missed the Q&A a couple of months ago and I have decided to buy an Astro modified camera, If you were to buy new gear, what camera/lens (lenses) would you recommend. Thanks and clear skies!
Thanks mate, I appreciate that 👍 I havnt used other brands much so I'd probably stick with sony as it's what I know, and with lenses we are so spoilt with good choices from oem and 3rd party like sigma
I love both images. Just a comment on the last image, and let me qualify it by saying Iam far from an expert, but the selfie doesn’t look right. In saying that it is a stunning image overLl
Absolutely epic picture mate. I’ve recently done my first pano and am pretty stoked with it. Your videos have been key in me progressing as I have. I’ve been thinking about focus stacking. How is that done with the pano? Do you stitch each row then blend?
@@johnrutterphotography cheers mate, had been debating between the two, love my 40mm and had been leaning towards the 28 as but if the 24 is similar performance that's tempting! Look forward to seeing more from your 105 too! So many lenses so little money lol
You have the best pano's I've seen out here on RUclips. What focal length do you find yourself shooting at the most for your pano's? I'm finding that I get to many ugly stars and the stars are too tiny below 20mm. Thanks for all the videos. Clears skies and stay safe out there in the wilds.
I've done both 24mm and 50mm panos with good results. 50% overlap and Photoshop/Lightroom do pretty good job stitching together. I'm also curious to hear others experience
@@jmart_4 Thanks for the response. If I can ever get rid of the winds and clouds here in Vegas I try 24-40 mm and see what works best. Not in to really huge pano's.
I almost went to the gym and then a John Rutter video appeared.
😂 that was close you could of missed it 😂
Haha that's hilarious 😂
I watched his video at the gym lol
I just discovered this channel. I love the content.
Legend - what a great location (threat of plummeting to an untimely death always enhances the excitement! 🤣) with awesome skies.
There’s always room for at least a hip flask in a camera bag…
Haha thanks mate 👍 😂😂
I have that lens and its a beast of a lens ...coupled with my sony a74
That's a great combo. 👍

Ahhhh I didn't even think about the beer selfie...... next time 🤣🤣. I'm super impressed with the new lens, but can't see myself going wider than 24mm

Ever thought about a Benro Polaris btw.? Great video!! Thanks for letting us hear your thoughts on that lens.
Truly brilliant image John. Smashed it out of the park. Awesome!
Thanks mate, I appreciate that 👍
Dude your images are insane!
Ah, you're tempting me to go full into astrophotography... must resist...
Haha cheers mate! Do it it's good fun! 👍
I should check my bag for that 'sneaky little beer' corner 😁. Cool adventure, nice music and rather epic end result 👌.
Haha it's a great part of the bag 😅😅. It's all about having a chill time and just enjoying being there for me.
Just awesome John the emptiness of the landscape and the grandness of the Milky Way looked amazing 👍
Cheers Chris, 🍻 nature is spectacular 👌
Stunning image John, great composition as always. I've driven past Coolah Tops many times, but never stopped to explore. Your video has now inspired me to search off the beaten track. 😁
Thanks mate, I didn't look around that much, there is so much to explore up there and il definitely be going back 👍 it's worth calling in.
what a stunning image at the end, simply jaw dropping
Thanks mate, I appreciate it 👍
Sensational image John, looks like you maybe doing more selfies moving forward I reckon :) Well done as always!
I dunno about that mate, I don't like been in front of the camera. It was a bit of fun anyway.
That pano is fantastic and I loved the blue light way off on the horizon (a town, perhaps?) Love your shirt, too! lol! Ain't that the truth...😄
Thanks mate, I'm not sure what that light is on the horizon but I agree it adds to the image.
I think alot of people can relate to the hoodie.
That's an absolutely stunning image John. Your selfie worked quite well . Love that you're trying new things mate.
Thanks mate, I'm definitely no good at it but it was a bit of fun anyway. Can definitely appreciate how good your flash selfies are after trying it.

Thanks mate, it's the new DG DN lens not the same as the old 24 dslr version.
Another awesome set of images John, really love your down to earth approach and always informative. However I can only imagine how cold it was up there!
Cheers mate, 🍻 I appreciate that. It was cold but I think I got lucky as it was only a mild frost and it can get crazy cold up there
saludo panama
I should be working, but this is more important.
Hahaha that's awesome 👌
Your pano is next level awesome. Serious great framing and absolutely amazing detail.
Thanks mate. 👍 I appreciate it
That's a great image John, crisp and clean and full of detail and colour. The location looks a bit hairy on Google Maps and worse on location at night. Probably a good thing you only had a few amber fluids on the shoot. 😊😎👌
Thanks mate, I definitely was a bit nervous stumbling around in the dark. I may even go back there.
That final image is incredible!
Thanks mate. 👍
Love this John. Along with the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art, the 24mm is always in my astro camera bag. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tim, I appreciate that mate 👍
Ripper location, love the drone footage mate.
Thanks mate 👍
Great work, you ever have any issues just leaving your truck on the side osf the road at night?
I love the 24mm art version on my dinosaur(DSLR).
Cheers man, 🍻 I've never had any issues, but even if I did.. that's what we pay insurance for. 👍

Thanks mate 👍, it is a shame they don't do the nikon mount at this stage. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
Love it mate 👍
Cheers man 🍻
Great timing on the video mate. Just ordered the 24mm f/1.4 DG DN last night. :)
It's a great lens 👌

Absolutely epic picture mate. I’ve recently done my first pano and am pretty stoked with it. Your videos have been key in me progressing as I have. I’ve been thinking about focus stacking. How is that done with the pano? Do you stitch each row then blend?
Thanks mate, I just stack the individual frames then do the stitch.
Great video as always John, any reason in particular for getting the 24mm rather than the older 28? Debating between one and the other myself!
This is the Mirrorless version mate so can't compare it to the older 28mm
From the research I did, this new 24 for mirrorless performes better than the 28, that's why, I originally was going to get the 28.

Hi John, what was the white balance of the camera when you taking the night photos? Is it a bit yellowish?
My white balance is custom due to the astro mod but I aim for something close to daylight WB.
