We made scooters back in the 1950s. We used boards and the wheels were old bearings from cars. It’s so surprising that in this day and age to see something like this being made. But I still admire these poor guys.
A lot of this beautiful clip reminds me of my times in the state of Bahia, Brasil, some twenty-five years ago. There was a busy boatyard in Itacare that caught my attention. The guys made 25' boats out of wood that was yellow inside and yielded a pleasant scent. There was a lot of machete use, roosters would crow, and afternoon breaks were spent lazing in the shade of spreading almond trees. I saw a lot of hand-carved woodwork in Brasil. I saw how Bahians would improvise when making or repairing things, much like what we saw in this clip. I think the best invention I saw there was a gas engine powered wheelchair. The owner was a fine guitarist, a local celebrity, and was doted over and greatly appreciated by all in Porto Seguro, Bahia.
