can we talk about how trainees train for YEARS (sometimes even as long as a decade) and end up like this. Its also so sad that trainees train and never end up in groups or they end up in groups that flop:(
(Edit: Hey! I didn't mean to confuse anyone but personally I believe PRISTIN wasn't a flop, what I meant was that some groups sadly end up like PRISTIN where they initially had a lot of fans and potential, but the company didn't give enough attention and/or didn't give them enough comebacks/content to keep fans wanting to stay in the fandom.)

the most confusing thing tho is that they were far from a flop, they were the most successful group to initially come out of ioi
EDIT: not necessarily because of album sales btw, at the time they were the most well known and talked about. a lot of people were fans without buying the albums (like myself) because we weren't necessarily in love with their music yet but were excited to see where they'd go because they showed a huge amount of potential, and people were just waiting for them to release THAT song, the song that would skyrocket them and really fit them.

Just some other things I wanna add as I am a HIgh since 2018:
-a member did show up to Xiyeon's graduation and it was Sungyeon yet still no manager
-Roa had a school play yet she was not accompanied by a manager but Yuha was there to support along with a group of HIghs
-we did the sticky note protest and thought it would work since Nuest fans had protested the same way and got the response they wanted while staff just ignored us (there was a rumor they were laughing at us from inside the building but idk)
-another rumor was that when pristin was still a group, they were receiving many sponsorships for items or being invited to shows but pledis ignored or rejected them all
-sungyeon is a talented songwriter and singer (pls watch videos of her singing you wont regret) and she has helped write songs for nuest!
-only after 1 year since the disbandment, we finally heard from yehana this year which worried all of us (thanks a lot pledis)
-pristin is the first group that pledis has disbanded officially as they just slowly ignored after school till all the members left so there was no official announcement

vanillaicecreamcheoreomnogaborinin For the WJSN chinese members, they skyrocketed in popularity in China. I also believe they’re a special case cause their contracts are different from the korean members since they’re managed by a different company (i believe Yuehua ent)
As for Handong and other cases like Yanan from Pentagon, they unfortunately weren’t able to really see much success in China, so I guess you can say there was no reason for them to focus on solely chinese activities. It’s better for them and their companies money-wise to stay with their groups and do chinese activities on the side. But this is still a good compromise cause they can move onto china once their groups disband

baby_dino The video explains it but basically because of covid restrictions, the company wasn’t able to make as much money as they needed to keep the group afloat. Small companies like that rely A LOT on busking (aka performing on the streets) and college festivals for money. Events like these unfortunately can’t be conducted because of covid, so lots of small companies are losing out on money and have to disband their groups. I've always thought that Pledis' growing relationship with CJENM played a big role in Pristin's neglect. Pristin was promoted well enough in their debut year then slowly disappeared from the picture in 2018, right before IZONE debuted and after CJENM became the major shareholder of Pledis. If you remember, CJENM owns both Mnet and Swing records, the label of the Produce groups. And due to that, Pledis ended up handling IZONE and Fromis9 (also under CJENM), helping with production and providing other resources (room, staff, training) to the groups.
Basically Pledis had to prioritize IZONE and Fromis9 and, being a small company, they didn't have the resources to spare for Pristin. Thus Pristin had to stay in the dungeon but the longer they stayed there, the more they lost hype and fans. And so they ended up disbanding :(

As long as I know, pledis only lend them the training facilities, and Han Sung Soo the CEO of Pledis, produce the first 3 album. When your game plan as a company is to have these 7, 8, 9, 10+ member groups, that's a lot of members to support and you can't withstand comebacks that underperform. Then, if you've got songs and concepts that are hit or miss, it can be a quick downward spiral. This was a talented group that was mismanaged and undersupported. Glad that many moved onto better things but definitely a tale of what could have been.

While Sally was on Produce Camp 2020 she admitted that her company kicked all the members out of the dorm and told them not to come back. 2020 has been rough on a LOT of companies and forced a lot of groups to disband prematurely.

it always confuses me when companies (any company, anywhere) decides to blatantly ignore the problems they are having. instead of making a statement they just act like nothing happened, do they believe the public will also ignore it? because it normally does the complete opposite, it becomes talked about and noticed more. then in turn it becomes unforgettable.
idk i feel like making some sort of statememt is better then a complete lack of communication. the public is what keeps a company going, without them you loose it all. so why would you alienate or ignore the people who keep you going...
just doesn't make any sense buisness or other wise.

Something definitely happened behind the scenes. No company would drop a group that has fans protesting for a comeback at the company's door. I mean Pledis had a money maker that was already popular and winning awards. Even if a few members left, a full group comeback would've done well with how in demand it was. I completely believe something happened between the girls and the company that made the company, for some reason, neglect and disband them. That at first the company wasn't going to disband them, just put them on hiatus, but it got to a point where they were so upset with the girls and dropped them.

As a carat of 5 years, and a fan of After School, Nu'est, and Pristin.... Pledis really should not have any groups. They have no clue how to manage their artists and how to provide for them. I firmly believe the only reason Seventeen is as successful as they are is because they're self-producing, and when starting out, handled a lot of their own material (even designing album covers, for free).
Don't even get me started on After School and poor Kaeun. Loves (Nu'est fans) have also left notes on the Pledis building for the mistreatment of Nu'est, and I can't tell you how hard it is to watch SVT have virtually no freedoms as a senior BG. I really hope that they don't debut the trainees they have, and stop taking on more, just because nobody deserves to suffer from this company any longer.

Theres already a really promising trainee from Produce 48 that is still with Pledis and we have barely heard anything from her or the other 2 girls from Pristin that's still with Pledis, I'm very worried that they will be just. Not I read the title like they sang it!! Pristin was the group I was sooooo hyped for after IOI ended. Pledis should not manage anymore female idol groups anymore seeing how they handled not only Pristin but After School too. Yes I understand that money talks and their album sales drop, but they were winning rookie awards left and right and that says to me that their popularity is still there if you manage them right. WJSN (debuting before Yeonjung joined) Weki Meki, Chungha and even Somi are slowly rising in popularity so it’s possible that Pristin could’ve achieved such popularity but Pledis is just incompetent not only with their female idols but heck with Nu’est and Seventeen too

  • @Kharmatos13
    @Kharmatos13 3 года назад +4

I think you got it right at the end. The fan support just wasn't there. If you get rookie of the year and all that then put out another comeback and do worse, it's already not looking good. then you do a sub unit, still not getting the numbers, then some of the members go to another group and try again there and that doesn't happen it's not the labels fault it's the fans fault for not supporting them. it happens all the time in music and movies and sports. somebody gets rookie of the year in a sport and then they fall off and are never heard from again. you get a one hit wonder in music and they're never heard from again. an actor has a hit in the movies or on tv and then they fall off too. Pristin is one of those.

Another youtuber did a deep dive on Pristin and said that even though Pristin was popular, they didn't manage to bring in numbers even for their second comeback in this case, album sales or digital sales which is important. Without these, the company would have problems to promote the next comeback since their return of investment is low. That's why even if an idol is popular, if you don't have a steady fanbase that supports you financially, it's harder for small companies to continue. But honestly, Pledis just doesn't know where to go with Pristin. They don't know what concept could Pristin do that will compliment the group. Pledis perhaps suck at ideas.
Pledis lucked out with After School though because they had Kahi who has multiple ideas for group concepts. So while Kahi was there, the group was immensely popular, but when she left, unfortunately, After School started to fade.
I think pledis is just not very good at presenting ideas. A lot of their ideas flop so bad or get backlash. Seventeen got as far as they are because the members are the ones to throw in their ideas and what they want to do. Variety shows, music, comeback concepts, events, traditions in the fandom were usually all ideas from Seventeen and at times, their fans. Pledis just took it and make it come true. Or pledis gave rough ideas and Seventeen developed them and made it their own. Pledis really lucked out with Seventeen
