Fortunately they didn't took anyone out inbetween the promotions from IZ*ONE. Even the AKB members took their break from AKB48 to fully concentrate on IZ*ONE promotions. I don't know if Yuehua will add Yena to Everglow later on, but if they do, it was a good decision to debut the group early and promote them as 6 members for a while, so they can gain fans and popularity for the members and not concentrate on one member who was in the Produce Group. Even though two members were in PD48 either.

No, most girlgroups that so not come from a big company with large marketing muscles do not survive long after their debut before they drowning in the sea of idols with little to no noteworthy attention or care thereof. This one lasted 4 year before their company decided to pull the plug on them.
It was the Produce101 curse at play: When putting the stars of the show into rushed groups it ruin the group. Yes, these individuals was/are popular due to that show but the audience focus on them and so does their company - causing these one or two members to overshadow everything else including the other members and the brand of the group. i think one of the things to mention is that korean netizens really hated the name "gugudan". it was not friendly to the public, a group called "multiplication table" was never appealing to domestic fans & that didn't change as promotions continued. it certainly started things on the wrong foot and never really improved. same with jelpi taking mina & seyeon out of ioi promotions to debut in gugudan - it left people with a bad taste in their mouths & gave the public a bad impression of the girls from day 1 (even though it was entirely the company's fault)

It's also bad for international fans as the name is camparably long and doesn't consist of letters or a known word. Also, In German Gugu is the first part of the description of the baby language and personally, I usually called them "The Girl Group with that awful name I can't remember under Jellyfish" because I really couldn't or "The GuGu-GaGa Group" for the very same reason and said aspect of the baby language. Other then that i simply think that the name is hard to remember when only briefly knowing them. Most group names consist of one to two syllabes (VIXX again, Teen Top or Blackpink for example) or consist of usually 3 letters (NCT, BTS, B.A.P or CLC for example). The 3rd method is making an extra international name or make an English Name to begin with (Crayon Pop, K-Much (named Gamulchi in Korean) or word plays like Monsta X or iKON)

All kpop companies need to take a few years of not having new groups come out and just work with what groups they do have. I hate that they kind of blame the groups for not being popular from the beginning. even though they know that it's overly saturated with new groups every year. that they're not going to get enough eyes on them because there's old groups that have huge fan bases and they're not going to really get those fanbases to move on to newer groups as easy as they think.

You have fans of the Big 3 that will follow trainees and try to figure out when the company is going to debut a new group and if their favorite trainees will make the cut. Even if there were less groups, the sad reality is that not every group is going to make it big, even if the members are really talented.

The company makes all the decisions, so if people are going to criticize then direct it at the company. It’s horrific how these girls (and many other idols) were treated, only getting to sleep for one hour in 4 days is literally torture. It’s disturbing how the kpop industry often doesn’t treat idols as human beings, just products to be used for profit, discarded if they’re not living up to impossible standards.

The way they promoted gugudan was wrong. I believe if they started to debut gugudan semina first as a gift for the fans who supported sejeong mina and nayoung since pd101 and a way to promote "gugudan" it would be better. Then after a month-long promotion for the subunit, announce the debut of the whole group and drop a teaser per members to flex their beauties for 9 days. Then 9 days later, drop a group teaser with the boots as their debut single. During promotion, they could release on RUclips dance practices + behind the scenes and a short tv reality show in order to know more about other members. After promotion, sejeong would release a solo with other members releasing OSTs and after like 6 months max, make a comeback with Not That Type.
I feel like with this type of promotion, the group would have more people interested in them. Honestly, when I saw Wonderland, the song was average and the outfits were horrible. I still checked their songs after bc I really like sejeong but i never really liked gugudan's songs except the boots and not that type. I found out about semina months after because I was re-watching the girls first perf on pd101 and the mv appeared in my suggestions.
it is normal for the public to lose interests in a group with two overly popular members, several average songs, meh outfits, weak ass promotions and overworked popular members. they would just stay as a solo stan .-.

Gugudan is obviously gonna flop whatever way they are promoted because the popularity is unbalanced. They shouldve just debuted swmina as a trio and debuted the other 6 afterwards as a separate group after semina achieve success on their own. honestly speaking, the other members of gugudan couldnt match the popularity of the pd101 contestants. If even one member reached similar popularity of the former ioi members, they wouldve reached more success. Just look at everglow, the other members can at least reach the popularity of yiren and sihyeon, and as a group they can at least be within reach of the popularity of other top groups, which means if they are planning on adding yena to the group (which i dont personally agree with) the other members could still match yena's popularity.

This is a reason why I liked "The Unit" instead of "Produce 101". Their is too many Kpop Groups being pumped out every year, barely get recognition, and then they disband. Produce 101 is the same, taking Trainees and pumping them out. Kpop Industry does not give lots of Groups, especially Girl Groups a chance to succeed, because their is just so many of them. I agree with the other poster here, instead of mass producing young Kpop groups, why not work with the ones that are already here? Promote them better, pump some life into them. Their is too many Kpop Groups that are already debuted but are stuck in purgatory, because their Company has no idea what to do with them, as they are not reaching overnight success. I liked "The Unit"'s idea of trying to boost the careers of Idols and Groups that are already here. Alot of groups will disband in 2021 and its a shame because alot of them are talented, but just needed better chances.

I was waiting for their debut and have been with them since the end. And I was devastated when they disbanded, although I had a feeling it would happen. Gugudan’s popularity declined so much and as soon as Jellyfish debuted their new boy group while gugudan’s popularity was declining and VIXX were enlisting and Hongbin’s scandal happened, I just knew. And after Sally’s statement on Produce Camp, I knew their disbandment was near. I loved them so much and still do. I also do think Chococo was a terrible song choice for the main group to do if they went straight to Not That Type I think they would had lasted abit longer. However the main issue was clearly favoritism, I love Mina alot but Sejeong and Mina being put to the front of gugudan's image was very damaging especially if you were gonna debut such a big group in the first place. Chaeyeon was getting famous as actress and mc, but hasn't grow much yet. WJSN is doing good, thankfully, although Yeonjung inst the most popular in the group. Somi has good views but not enough album sales unfortunately. For me IOI was the best group ever created in the produce series, all of the girls had visuals, talent and personality, and were all so unique but fitted perfectly as a team. Such a shame... Not to be mean, but in my opinion Jellyfish did everything wrong since the beginning. SeMiNa were a well-rounded and well liked trio back at Produce101, there was no need to add more members, especially since there were already other new gg with many members at that time and fans kinda struggle to keep up with so many idols (why, MNH decision to debut Chungha solo was the best decision). They could have debuted SeMiNa or added one or two other girl IMO,, and then debuted the other girls in a different group in the future. Taking Mina and Sejong out of IOI promotions were a low move, IOI fans didn't like it at all. Also, SeMiNa were praised during Produce for their good vocals and for being very refreshing, cute concept was a big thing back at 2016 and that first performance of them were so far from that... thus, I believe we were expecting that their group would do something new and that would be able to show everyone their great vocals, but in the end we got a very sweet and innocent debut song that didn't show how refreshing they could be. Maybe it's just me, but I think that it was a waste of potential to make them sing the kind of songs they released. I'm not saying that their songs were bad, I'm just saying they didn't fit the image many fans had of SeMiNa and that kind of make them lose their interest in Gugudan.

I loved Gugudan when they debuted, so the fact they disbanded breaks my lil heart. The girls had so much going for them! Them and Pristin are the reason why I'm hesitant to stan girl groups, labels never seem to know how to promote them!!

Gugudan is one of the groups which made me like K-pop back in 2017, OGUOGU was my favorite sub-unit and I always considered Gugudan to be one of the best K-pop groups in terms of vocals. I loved them so much, I kept wishing for a come-back until the very last day... My girls did 't deserve to be done dirty like this. They had everything to become a popular group, but Jellyfish screwed them. Shame on you Jelpi!

To all of you saying that she wasn’t chubby or fat, I get where you’re coming from, BUT. For the idol beauty standard that exists, she is a little heavy. It does not mean she isn’t amazing and talented, all I’m saying is that for an idol, she’s a little heavier.
There’s nothing wrong with being chubby. I’m sure those of you saying this didn’t have bad intentions, but we all need to understand, consciously and unconsciously, that fat is okay. Chubby is natural.

I am one of the biggest fan of Gugudan. I know lots from them (History) since produce 101 to Gugudan. But TODAY. JUST TODAY, I knew something new from them. Thanks a lot from you who made this video. I just knew that Mina was forced to perform for the performance even though she is suffering for that moment because of a knee injury. Wow.. I accidentally remembered that I am performing such as school activities (dance competition) I suffered from knee injury and I pretend that I don't felt anything bad.
I quite see myself to my bias, Mina unnie..
I'll really support them because they changed me a lot, for example they gave me lots of motivations to do something such as dancing and singing. I got those because of them. Again, thank you a lot for making this video.❤️

Three things that imo feel like Jellyfish could've done if they had better vision for the girls:
    1. *Debut the girls aside from Sejeong and Mina first or at least introduce them predebut*
These girls are talented yet they have such limited platform to showcase it. Jellyfish could've released predebut clips and covers to give more exposure to the other members and it would be a good way to get the public to warm up to them and build up hype instead of rushing the debut to milk Sejeong and Mina's popularity. This could've also closen the massive gap in popularity and make the other members receive less scrutiny for appearing like they are too dependant on Sejeong & Mina
    2. *Maintain a concept & music style*
I know their group is supposed to be a theatrical group but it was so risky for a not so big company. Call it a coward move but it imo it would've been better if Jellyfish played it safe. The constant change in concept and sound made it hard for people to become fans. Instead they should've gone for A Girl Like Me and The Boots type of music and concept since those are more well-received and it seems to be the most fitting for the girls themselves. A perfect balance between girly and sassy. And a good balance between dance and vocals
    3. *Split up the girls / change the lineup*
This one is just me rambling nonsensical what ifs. It might sound controversial, but i feel like there's a lack of cohesiveness in terms of talent in the group. Although they are all talented and the performances generally are pulled well tgt, I feel like their talents would've shined more if they divided the girls up. Some members who are dance machines are much more suited for dance heavy songs in which Gugudan's choreos nor songs/concepts allow them to showcase those talents. On the other hand, some members are vocal powerhouse vocalists who suit vocal heavy Mamamoo-esque songs and are arguably weak dancers which sometimes imo stuck out in a bad way in their performances that's are not on music shows (dont blame them tho, they gotta carry the singing but sometimes, it just feels like they prefer if they didnt have to dance at all and just sing) I just wonder if the girls would fare off better if Jellyfish divided them into different teams to debut. Ideally, it would've been:
*Dance team:* Hana, Mina, Mimi, Hyeyeon and Sally
*Vocal team:* Sejeong, Soyee and Haebin
(Nayoung could go anywhere between the two. Probably more inclined to vocal line but since she's pretty good at dancing, she could join dance line as a main vocalist along with Hyeyeon)
