Agreed. At first I thought the interviewer was just full of crap and had never actually watched the show but he was just being patient and waited to correct Mr Key. It made me realize it's better to not interrupt when the interviewee is still delivering good material even when it's the wrong answer.
And for Key bringing it around with the A-Aron Rod-gers story.
To Keegan's credit, the question was not properly asked. I was confused by it too.
So glad Keegan misunderstood it, so we can have two great stories instead of one.
The story he told was way more interesting. The real story ended up being, "oh, one of our writers wrote it." lol
The kid actors in the Substitute sketch put it over the top. They were all fantastic actors.
100% The deserve a TON of credit for how amazing that sketch is.

As a real Block-eh (Blake) I can remember the first day someone called me Block-eh, I was like WTF? Not a day goes by without someone calling me Block-eh. Love it.

As a retired elementary school teacher, I have to tell you-this skit made me laugh so hard I cried!
As he was telling the story of the East-West All Star sketch, I just figured it would transition to “so then we decided to try the opposite and do a sketch where a guy used to teaching a bunch of kids with names like D’Brickashaw couldn’t pronounce names like Aaron and Blake.” 😊

This is so bizarre. I just watched the NBA all star game last night and wondered aloud why some parents named their kids these names.

The substitute teacher skit is one of the best and every now and then I watch it on repeat. I'm just really sorry my name isn't Aaron.
My family loves it. I grew up in East Texas in the 90's, with all my black classmates calling me A-ruhn, so I was kinda thrown by the A-A-Ron. I embrace it now.

Very few things are exactly as funny every time you see them as they were the first time you saw them. Mr. Garvey and the East/West bowl are two of those. They will never get old.

Jordan Peele is so amazing with his writing and acting. Keegan is also so funny and great comic actor. All their sketches were so top-notch.

I had a few classes with D’Brickashaw in college. He was probably the smartest guy in both classes. And the best left tackle.

I’ve always believed that Mr. Garvey was a real person. Somebody had this dude as a substitute teacher and wrote comedy around it.
He answered the question with the incorrect backstory, yet in the end it all circled around to make sense. Amazing!
The Mr. Garvey sketch is brilliant: the script is brilliant, Keegan, as always, is brilliant! But, in all fairness, it's the STUDENTS and their totally believable reactions that MAKE this sketch what it is. With lesser actors, the piece would still be hilarious, but perhaps only conceptually.
The kids in the sketch were great
Props to Keegan for giving credit where it was due. Feels like a lot of guys have such an ego theyd try to take credit for writing most of it themselves, or at least saying they wrote half, but Keegan immediately gave Peele and the writers credit. He's got good character.

In mid 1980s at my HS we had a substitute one day, intelligent thirty something black man that I'd never seen before (maybe a teacher or coach at some nearby school), and surprisingly he really bumbled over the exotic African American names of kids in the class...it was like some weird alternate universe version of the sketch...
I worked with a guy named Blake when this sketch came out. A good time was had by all. 😆

It seems like the host didn't really get the joke of the sketch. It's not that the teacher is bad with names. It's that he's pronouncing all these traditionally WHITE kid names as if they were BLACK kid names. That's what gives it that extra depth of humor. It's poking fun at the cultural differences in naming.
It's the same joke in the East v. West sketch when they cut to "Dan Smith" to contrast with all the other insane names.
Thought for sure with mentioning Aaron Rodgers, Rich was going to ask about the hip thrust/football referee sketch that Rodgers actually did in a game.

I make my predictions on whether a prospect will be good or not based on nothing but their name.
I heard the writer came up with the sketch from white teachers getting all the black students names wrong when they were in school. They just flipped it and made it funnier.

At my university course we had a semester focused on indigenous history, and when the teachers were trying to explain to a bunch of white people why pronouncing indigenous names matters they showed the Mr. Garvey sketch. Seeing a Key and Peele sketch used for higher education continues to be one of the most surreal things i've ever experienced, I was dying laughing when I realized when I saw the thumbnail.
I thought it was close to Coach Hines on Mad Tv.
