As someone born and raised in Reno, NV--I just wish the show was anywhere near accurate with street names or places, or was sometimes filmed in town. The only parts of Reno you see are the little intros and bumpers and such showing the actual city of reno. As a renoite the show is harder to enjoy when you know the city haha
Let me tell you how thrilled I was during the pandemic when new episodes came out on Quibi. I was out walking (aka getting high in my car as a precursor to walking), and was checking for new episodes of the gay game show, and about threw my phone in glee when I saw Niecey Nash in all her finery.
Yeah he's seen Reno 911 no doubt. His voice stuff on Family Guy and American dad, his SNL appearance, weird sh!t he's said in interviews. He's Shakespeare on the surface and Animal House underneath.
For as serious as Sir Patrick is, he has been the voice of the most insane American Dad character for ever now. I think he's in on it more than he lets on
If you see him in interviews and the kind of roles/cameos he's had over the years, it's actually pretty funny how unserious Sir Patrick Stewart is. The guy really enjoys doing the most absurd things for a laugh, and the whole serious shtick just adds to the zaniness of a lot of those roles.
Reno 911 is alright but who else remembers when Thomas and the Reno 911 guys had a show on MTV in the 90s called _MTV's The State_ it was hilarious and no one but me seems to remember or get the references, like _I wanna dip my balls in it..._ 😂
They still do that bit for their stage shows. I bought the The State box set a few years ago and it was well worth the purchase price. But, I do wonder if I'd think of them as fondly if they'd have accepted the extension from MTV and had to do that many episodes.
I know Thomas Lennon from Viva Variety where he was "Mr Laupin" and his co-host was "the former Mrs. Laupin". OMG, that show was amazing. It actually took me a while to figure out that he and she were in Reno 911.
The L'eggs container was the basis of a prop in an episode of Star Trek with Patrick Stewart. That early episode where the only thing on the planet are the drones flying around.
Love him. Too funny but that reminded me of a movie called Robin Hood Men in Tights. If you don't get what I mean watch the movie. Funny as hell and Mel Brooks was in it and he's the best.
Years ago, I went to a bar for a half-way to Halloween costume contest wearing a Lt Dangle costume that my brother and I made with an old pair of Navy dive shorts (if you know, you know) and a Marine blouse done up to look like a sheriff uniform (complete with nut-huggers). I showed up earlier with the straight, older crowd (50s-60s) with no one else in costume. Those old folks would walk past me and do a double take. I often read “WTF” coming from their mouths. I asked the bar tender if I was at the wrong night and he said, “no, you’re just a little bit early. We are about to jump up and get our costume on in a bit”. Needless to say, I won first prize that night.
He jokes, but they could do several new Paramount commercials of Dangle showing up at Sir Patrick's house doing different jobs, but always wearing short shorts.
One of the highlights of my online experience was Tom liking a comment of mine on his suggestion that he should be Kanye West's Press Secretary if Kanye somehow won the presidential election. 😂 I told him I'd love to just be in the room where they would brainstorm the outfits for him to wear to the press briefings.
You gotta love that Sir Patrick chose to ignore everything else about his outfit and just discuss the state of his legs and they ended up figuring out they were neighbors but they never cleared up he was dressed as his character.
All those guys from Reno 911 were even more brilliant on The State. It was the last good thing about MTB doing skit shows. The cereal commercial. The guy with only 1 catch phrase.
A lot of that was because MTV pretty much let them do whatever they wanted without much oversight. I think the Porcupine Races sketch was one of the few ones that they were asked not to do. But, even there, they were allowed to do it anyways. There was a commitment to the joke on that show that is rare, that whole sketch was purely about the joke of being asked not to do the sketch and doing it anyways, there literally were no jokes during that segment after that. And, even there, that didn't wind up being a joke as they were asked not to do it.
I think Stewart has got a better sense of humor than this story lets on or maybe that's just a better way of telling it. Watch that episode of Extras with Stewart, it's pretty damn funny. Lennon is brutally funny. "You're a whore, Peter!"
Captain Picard and Lieutenant Dangle: the team-up we never knew we needed.

Tom Lennon is such a delight. An incredibly funny delight.
So underrated, loved him since "The State".
@@JFS-v1r That's where I know him from, but they also did Viva Variety.
They still tour the from time to time and put on a pretty good show.

Patrick Stewart was in Robin Hood: Men In Tights. I’m sure he remembers the eggs.
Tight tights

His guest spot on Ricky Gervais' "Extras" was astounding!
He's hilarious. Watch the episode of Frasier where he guest stars doing what I am convinced is his best Ian McKellen impression.
He was super serious at the start of Star Trek. His costars humbled him.
Thomas Lennon is definitely one of the most underrated actors/comedic actors. Reno 911 is such a gem so many people seemingly forgot about
He wrote a few popular screenplays, scripts. 📒
If you liked that, you might want to check out The State and Viva Variety.
He sounds like Ron burgundy doing an impression of Sir Patrick
“I told you I would find you again… Door dash” I was fucking rolling
Reno911 is like MST3K (old ones). You can leave it on all day and laugh anytime you walk by the TV.
It's amazing that all the crazy stuff Patrick Stewart has done. Seeing a guy in short shorts sort of freaked him out.
I will always associate Thomas with the movie Out Cold. Still to this day one of my favorite movies!
Watched this, went and watched the 2 minute Paramount Commercial, back to confirm... Legs scratched all to hell...
New Boot Goofin lives rent free in my head and is spouted regularly within my household
That was actually a pretty good Patrick Stewart impression.
I loved these guys going all the way back to MTVs The State.
Thomas Lennon and Nick Offerman need to do something together, they look similar

I wish Exit 57 was on DVD. Great show.
And viva variety
Comedy Central's Exit 57 was Sedaris, Colbert, Dinello, Rouse, and Jodi Lennon, not Tom.

Yeah, and they still tour, it's worth seeing them live if they come to a theater near you. I saw them last year and it was an absolute blast.
If it makes Thomas Lennon feel better, Patrick Stewart didn't know who STING was on the set of Dune
If you're not going to be known by somebody, it might as well be a super successful actor.
Thomas Lennon is stil one of the funniest people in the world.
