  • In this episode I will show you how I made my homemade diesel injector pop tester. I made it from scrap metal and material that was available in my shop. I use the lathe and mill to fabricate the pump and the fuel line. I hope you will enjoy this video as I enjoyed making it for you. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me and I will be happy to answer your questions. Thank you for watching and thank you for your support. Be safe and have a great day,

    great stuff. I would add a filter inside the low pressure side just in case something makes it through to the injectors, or maybe an injectormesh screen in the high pressure output - nice video thanks!

      I thought about doing something like that on the low pressure side. I actually added two coffee filters on the top of the pipe (the diesel reservoir). Thank you for the feedback and the nice comment. Be safe and have a great day.

    how do you determine slope when milling the pipe you put reference mark on it?

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  4 месяца назад

      I cut everything square (as close as possible for this project). I didn't mill anything at slope. I explained everything I was doing in the video. If you are referring to why I put a mark, I did so to be able to create two parallel sides to be able to hold the tube in the vise. These cuts didn't have to be precise so I used the reference mark and the square to square the mark to the table for the two cuts, otherwise if the project calls for precise square cuts, I would have chucked the pipe in a square block. Thank you for watching

    • @SalamSayhood

      Those injectors are 12 volt. To test, you have to pressure the injector to the specific pressure, it shouldn't leak, when applying 12 volt, the injector should spray good pattern of diesel. Make sure the switch to turn on the injector is far from the spray pattern to eliminate fire.

    Thank you for publishing this! I'm stuck in Hungary with some diesel injectors that I need to test. Nobody is working except for a machinist. I'm tempted to have one made. How many hours all together did it take you? I also have no idea where to buy a gauge that goes high enough. 240 bar is the trigger pressure for my injectors.

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  Год назад

      It took me about 5 hours to build this tester. I had everything as far as material and tools ready before I started. If I didn't have to record it, it may have taken a little less time. The high pressure gauge (make sure it goes higher than what you need) they are available on eBay, Amazon and other online stores. You can also check out a local hydraulic shop. They may have some used for sale. These gauges are cheap. If you have more questions, please let me know.

    • @surfreadjumpsleep
      @surfreadjumpsleep Год назад

      @@SalamSayhood okay well 5 hours is maybe a little too much time to do this but I'm desperate I might just have someone do it. Couple hundred dollars to get out of here would be great. I'll watch online and see if I can find a more simplified design. I really need to use this just once. Maybe another time later. The ones that they sell online seem reasonable but of course nobody selling them around here

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  Год назад

      You can use the injector pump to build pressure. If you have an extra injector pump and one extra injector fuel line, you can braze a Tee in the middle of the line to add the gauge. You also can get plugs to plug the other outlets (other injector fuel outlets) of the pump so you don't have diesel fuel leaking and you can test the injectors that way.

    • @surfreadjumpsleep
      @surfreadjumpsleep Год назад

      @@SalamSayhood wow this sounds interesting. I don't have an extra pump though. Just the pump that's in the van. I guess the problem is is that the pump requires the engine to be running and the engine is not going to be running without all four injectors, correct? Or can the starter and battery run the pump? Here in Hungary I can hire a machinist... So he could make me caps or adapters to go to another line. So maybe if I use a t adapter on one of the lines? Then I can keep three injectors in and one testing. And then I'll still need a gauge right so that I can see what pressure the pump is pumping at. And it's going to be difficult to do a leak test this way, or?
      I can use a slow motion camera to capture the video of the gauge of the pump and when it fires. I don't know how fast the gauge is though.

    • @SalamSayhood
      @SalamSayhood  Год назад

      What I meant: if you have an extra pump, you can set it on the vise, all the injectors pump gear has bolt to keep the gear on the pump. You can build handle and rotate manually. You have to syphon desiel fuel from a container (higher than the pump) and once no air in the line, you connect to the pump, bleed the pump from air and connect the test line and you should be able to test them that way. Long time ago we did this on an old engine while we were rebuilding it. We connected all the lines and four injectors and we verified the injector had good pattern and no leak. However we didn't test the pressure. If you only testing one injector and plug the others, the pump going to have high pressure and it will be on bypass mode and you still can rotate manually but you may have to have longer wrench. It is easier to have a tester. Let me ask you why do you want to test your injectors? Any smoke or loss of preference? How expensive the injectors comparing to purchase tool or have it made? I made my tool because I have few equipment and the material/tool to make it and the injectors are expensive. They would cost me about $750 to buy new.
