  • Buy one on Amazon: lon.tv/267p1 (compensated affiliate link) - Google's mid-range Pixel 8a smartphone is very close to the regular Pixel 8 when it comes to performance and its overall feature set. It packs a lot of value for the price point. See more smartphones: • Smartphones and subscribe! lon.tv/s

So cool to see you review a smartphone! I have a Pixel 7 and love it. Waiting for the 9 Pro to be released for the zoom lens in a smaller size. The previous Pixel Pros are huge!

Same! The Nokia Lumia phones with polycarbonate body were so well designed. Wouldn’t break and even had removable batteries.

Yeah, my current phone now has cracked glass on both the front and the back FFS. I mean if I'd kept it in a plastic case, maybe it wouldn't have, but then why not just get a plastic phone?

Mobile phone review. This is the first time I saw a mobile being reviewed on this channel.
    Very interesting phone.
It is like my old phone loaded with new hardware and software features.

Great video lon. As of this comment I didn't watch the full video, but thank you so much on touching the point about sd card and headphone jack.
I am glad to see reviewers like you. I know most people have become sheep's of cloud storage and ephemeral tws which will spoil after a year or two in the name on environment.
I still use a phone with sd card and headphone jack, sadly I have to use a budget phone for that 😅

You know, the Pixel 8 is my first phone without an SD card reader, and honestly when it gets to that point, I can just use either an external reader, or an USBC drive. And you can add a USB to audio out for ~$10.

@@RKingis And when you get in the car. Oh crap! Forgot my sd card reader and usb c audio dongle. Crap! Forgot my usb c hub so I can do both at the same time. CRAP! I NEED TO CHARGE IT NOW TOO! FORGOT MY DONGLE! So no local hifi music playback.

That voice recorder transcript feature works on my old phone from 2018, too, I don't think it needs any special A.I. hardware.

I got mine yesterday, I was genuinely shocked at how heavy it is. It’s 18 grams heavier than my iPhone 15, which is metal and glass.

I also have the 8A and it felt heaver than my phone it replaced, the A52s 5G (A52s = 189g, Pixel 8a = 188g) but the difference is that the plastic back on the Pixel 8a is kind of slippery, while the A52s is not, so I think that is why I felt it being heavier. Cause the A52s I can rest in my hand with a large angle without problem, while the Pixel 8a starts to slide in my hand almost directly.

My first two smart phones were Android one and they worked fine for a couple of months, later they were a headache to use. I moved to an Apple for my third one and since thenI won’t get an Android phone even for free. Thanks for the review Lon. You always do a great job.

The a stands for “a syrup farm.” so this version is for someone who works on said farm and needs a pixel only I think.

I've owned every Pixel phone since the 3a. I currently have the 8 Pro and it's embarrassing. Not sure if it's the hardware which lets be honest is pretty poor when compared to other phones in the same price range. The 8a seems to be the only reasonably priced Pixel phone but I feel it's hindered by Android 14.
