- 17th December 2009 08:00am UK time - Rage Against the Machine reform at midnight in Los Angeles to give an historic performance of 'Killing In The Name' to the BBC 5Live Breakfast show in the UK. The broadcast was cut towards the end when after promising not to sing the 'correct' lyrics at the end...the band did anyway. This video also contains audio from the broadcasted announcement that they were the UK's No.1 Christmas single.
(this includes the now famous "GETRIDOFIT!")
The filming was produced by DC3, and radio clips uploaded under Fair Use for educational purposes

What's more, this is endorsed by the very machine the listener is supposedly 'raging' against, for good reason. No one is caught by surprise here. Saying F you to the BBC does nothing to change the existing structures of power and the enchanted consumer is conveniently rendered impotent in the process.

Not the BBC's choice. They're subject to the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and could get themselves into deep trouble if they allow offensive language on the air between (usually) 06:00 and 19:00. They weren't "trying to censor", they were just following the law.
The band know if they full "fuck you" From the get go BBC will just cut them right at the start that's why the Band wait til the last part of the song.

This is and always will be one of the greatest music stories ever. Every facet of it is perfect.
We were approached to do a documentary by quite a well know producer but the band didn't want to do it just yet
"Do you think it's a Rage Against the Manufactured Pop Business?" The the lead singing goes quiet and clearly stifles a laugh. It's probably then that it dawned on him just how unprepared this show is for them
For everyone who grew up listening to RATM in the 90s in the U.K and got sick of the bullshit music that was force fed to us, this was a huge moment. Thanks mate!

This wasn’t the first time an incident with RATM happened to the BBC. Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes was suspended after he accidentally played the full uncensored version of “Killing” At number 27 on the UK Top 40 Countdown At 5:00 PM on a Sunday night on 21/02/1993. Bruno was apparently too busy recording a promo for next week’s chart show while Zack De La Rocha angrily screamed “Fuck You I Won’t Do What Ya Tell Me” over the airwaves and Bruno returned announcing the next song without an apology, the station immediately received 138 angry phone calls of complaints from offended listeners afterward.
All I can respond is with...”Whoops.”
haha thats so funny! only 138 calls out of the 1000s of listeners tells us something really! i'm not usually into this music but this song makes me tear up because of what it stands for it was a legendary moment in music!

I think what they should do is at the end of the call of these 138 snowflakes, they should this exact part of the song and hang up on them. We take peoples complaints too seriously and this is why we live in a sterilized world, literally and metaphorically.

What I love is that, moments before they start the song, you can see that every one of them is ready for what they planned to do. There's this giddy delight on all their faces.

no it shows that Radio 1 is the most misleading charts on the planet how can you tell someone there Christmas #1 on 20th December based from sales up to 19th December, that so many days out of Christmas, cant believe who many believe in Christmas charts on media and #1 as it very false, Rage didn't get to #1 at Christmas, Rage was was top for one week from sales from 13th to 19th December Only For 20th December Broadcast Version, UK Christmas Media Broadcast Charts is the most fix Charts on the Planet as data is not reached during Christmas, it always a week out, Joe McElderry with the Climb stormed the #1 on weekly 27th December, Based on real time data from 20th to 26th December 2009.

So stoked a younger gen got to experience this. I grew up with RATM and they got me through some seriously rough times and existential battles.
I remembet when they were showing footage of metallica at leeds fest and cut it short because of swears, a few people had complained. A few thousand further complained metallica was cut short.
