How we view ourselves is so often relative to our environment. A person of average intelligence living among people of much lesser intelligence may assume he is of exceptional smarts. For that situation, he assumes based on inferior comparisons. In a group of higher intellects he discovers he is now of the lesser intellect. It’s all relative.
Penelope Lambson Thus, the only way you would know that you are actually smart is if you failed to find enough people that were beyond your ability. If you’re in a niche field, such as physics, you likely know you’re smart because you know the statistics of how few people can understand advanced physics. Even if you ran into a room of people smarter than yourself, you would know that they must be *exceptionally* smart, and you can still be very smart regardless. If you interact with a group of generally smart people, not within any particular intellectual context, you could feel inferior to them. This does not make you unintelligent, because maybe you just happen to be around a high concentration of smart people at that time? If the context of the engagement is clear enough, such as physics being a niche study, you can infer your own value more easily. It takes away the subjectivity more; however, if the context of the engagement isn’t as clear, then you might have no way of knowing your own value.

So brilliant. Unfortunately in my life and experience, the world often demands accommodation before one has even begun to recover from a trauma, in order to have the capacity to explore options. I’ve worked thirty years in health care and observed this every day.

When he references the chaos that occurs when you develop symptoms of a major disease or a loved one develops a disease it made me a little sad thinking about his wife being diagnosed with cancer and his subsequent problems with anti-anxiety medication.
I'm in the middle of the same thing. I realize that (for me at least) the biggest road block for getting myself back to being someone I like is also the first road block I encounter. That road block is the deep belief that because of who I've become and what HE has done, I don't deserve to be forgiven even if I do actually change. Example: Imagine a woman I love doesn't love me back and I hurt her alot because of it, but she does still believe in me and is doing everything she can to knock some sense into me despite the pain I keep giving her in return as I continue to lash out at her. If I do actually change and become a good person again and she falls in love with me afterward which is what I wanted from the beginning, did I really deserve to finally be loved by THAT person? 🤔 It's easy to say "no" to a question like this, and when you give yourself that answer before you've even begun to fix yourself, THAT'S the road block I'm talking about that stops some people from trying in the first place. The fear you sank so far that it's not right to get what you want anymore even if you change, so why try? It's a hard first obstacle, especially when you know you shouldn't be thinking that way 🤔
Best way to tface your fears and pains is confront them . 1. Accept the presence of elephant in the room. 2...minimize it in your head. 3.come up with solutions to solve it... 4.Accept the difficulties on the way . 5 at the end you will develop a strong will power and able to resolve the issue. When you accept the challenge.. It becomes easy to tackle.
I’ve been there too. I recognised the insignificance of individual life in face of the evolutionary wheel that keeps on turning regardless. My ego died that day and I’ve had to build it up again (over a few years) simply to be a functioning part of my community. But this time I have the knowledge that I am not my ego and I am not Finnur. But I am the observer of my mind and my life, like a soul embodying my being. And that, is a much stronger way of living than any fight or flight reactionary experience of the human life. Joy is much less fickle, as I feel how I want to feel and not how other people make me feel. I don’t get angered unless I want to feel anger. However I would say that it is a thin line to tread between detachment from your emotions by being an outside observer, and living in your emotions reacting without observation. But simply observing your emotions while living them helps you know yourself and go through life and all its difficulties far easier. I would also say (in relation to the video) that ego is not what makes you bold. But the ability to be vulnerable and still do.

Do NOT sell yourself short. You have unlimited potential, no matter whatever other people say or do. My high school principal told me almost 40 years ago, dedication + hard work = success. Intelligence has nothing to do with that equation. Are you dedicated? If not dedicate your life to your goal. Are you working as hard as you can? If not work HARDER. Never let someone else decide your future. Always decide your future yourself. We live in an age where you can look up any information in seconds. What is in short supply is critical thinking, logic. and truthfulness. Believe in yourself and NEVER give up on your dreams.
@timwins31 I agree. I bombed my first year at university. I was totally unprepared for reality and how hard the work was. Anyone can GIVE UP. JP says on his YT channel that: '"I have been working on the belief that transcendent values genuinely exist; that they are in fact the most tangible realities of being.' Can someone give an example of a transcendent value?
Freedom of choice. Equality of opportunity. The rule of just law. These are the transcendent values of democracy. Visit Jordan Peterson Genius or Charlatan on YT or FB. JP's reality exists in only his head. Analytical people base their thoughts on reality and evidence. JP bases his thoughts on his other thoughts. A simple breakdown of this thought process is this: Step 1: An idea appears in his head, like trees are real or rats are not people. Step 2: I need to go out and tell everyone because this is bloody important. Most people have 3 steps, where Step 2 is when they decide to share the idea; i.e. is this a valid or useful point, or would I actually look stupid if it came out of my mouth? The idea has to pass Step 2 before it is shared in Step 3. We (the sovereign we, the we that has been around since the beginning of life) have lived in a dominance hierarchy for a long time. We were struggling for a position before we had skin, or hands, or lungs, or bones. There is little more natural than culture. Dominance hierarchies are older than trees. The part of our brain that keeps track of our position in the dominance hierarchy is therefore exceptionally ancient and fundamental. It is a master control system, modulating our perceptions, values, emotions, thoughts and actions. It powerfully affects every aspect of our Being, conscious and unconscious alike. [We are more aware than animals? Thank you JP for that astounding revelation, and for telling me my brain is ancient and effects my consciousness. You are a genius. The stresses of an education, career, relationship and children place many burdens on both men and women, and your perspective changes as you get older. Why is there this assumption that the individual always must be seen as being smarter than they think they are? Like egotistical. Is that always the case?
Is that like a person who realizes that JP is a faux intellect will be smart when in a field of JP fans? I agree. Here is one of his nonsense lectures:
NZ journalist what he Didn't Expect to hear: Let's punch in randomly to see if JP has anything smart to say, at 3:00: 'A functioning hierarchy is predicated on cooperation...its a neo Marxist post modern presumption that the basis of hierarchical competition is power, it is not something I believe.. It is simply not true.. we need to understand how important our own perceptions is in our emotional regulation.. you have a mechanism that is unbelievably ancient and deep imbedded inside your psychophysiology that marks where you are in a given hierarchy it determines how much negative and positive emotion you feel.. this mechanism is widespread and powerful, it helps understand why people are so hurt by status reduction...'
[OK lets see if we can make sense of the king of psycho-babble word salad. Of course he throws in as many big words as possible, including his favorites neo Marxist post modernism hierarchical. He is kind of like a trained ape with a short list of provided go to words, except not food eat tired cold, but post modern hierarchy psychophysiology. JP doesn't believe that the basis of competition is power? This is sort of ambiguous, but is he saying that people in competition don't strive for power over others? If so he is full of crap. We need to understand our perceptions of emotional regulation? WTF does that mean? I need to understand when and why I am happy? What 3rd grader does not already know that? This is literally me when I do university written essays. I got A's for those at high school but when I got to university I barely passed them.
I admit it I've been so wrong when I thought I was in the right . My ego has led me down a bad road . I want to break free from who I think i am .
Let go of everything and just follow wutever ur gut wants to do
I'm in the middle of the same thing. I realize that (for me at least) the biggest road block for getting myself back to being someone I like is also the first road block I encounter. That road block is the deep belief that because of who I've become and what HE has done, I don't deserve to be forgiven even if I do actually change.
Example:
Imagine a woman I love doesn't love me back and I hurt her alot because of it, but she does still believe in me and is doing everything she can to knock some sense into me despite the pain I keep giving her in return as I continue to lash out at her. If I do actually change and become a good person again and she falls in love with me afterward which is what I wanted from the beginning, did I really deserve to finally be loved by THAT person? 🤔
It's easy to say "no" to a question like this, and when you give yourself that answer before you've even begun to fix yourself, THAT'S the road block I'm talking about that stops some people from trying in the first place.
Every time I dropped acid I had to reconstitute the past ,present ,and the future . Ego death can be very unnerving
Don't do that.😩
I’ve been there too.
Ego death is liberating. Ego is a prison.
When you realise your over your external factors of being you are. And you’ll be happy with whatever your internal factors are chasing.
I just went to my first year as a medical student and this happened to me:I was the smartest kid in my class during the whole high school,i was accepted in many medical schools, but when classes and exams started i was a fail...I wasn't so smart as i thought i was...Turns out i had to learn how to study all over again and accept i was not the genius who get the greatest grades anymore and i'll never gonna be again...
To accept that i'm never going to do so well again no matter how hard i study is though...But necessary
It takes a special person to double down, put their head down, and do what is necessary to succeed. You can do it, but first you need to believe you can do it. The rest is only hard work and dedication.
@timwins31 Hello!!When i read your comment i spent quite a few days thinking about what to say, because you said too much things and i was not expecting someone to say that tbh...But,i couldn't find the right words,so i wanna say that i'm thinking about what you said!!Your words are very valuable for me!!I appreciate it!!!

unfortunately i never was wrong through my entire life. no matter what i said it became true. like the situation im in right now. i predicted, i tried to prevent it, but the people who are wrong are not admitting that they wrong. you live in selfish society with so many unsuccessful people who lie, assume things, dont admitting they wrong.
its like working in a work place. i knew it was a problem and transferred it to my manager but they didn't solve it. manager job is to provide a safe and equal environment for everybody to work. show me how many managers are capable of doing that. thats why you see so many changes of employees in one place.
I have always thought all the wrong people are in management, then later realised most them probably are narcissists.

At the risk of oversharing (I kind of just have to put the words down) im open to having a sense of narrcisism being that I have nothing going for me, which is pretty thinnly veiled but is also kind of seen as a problem like sex addiction or racism where people are actively discouraged from disclosing it when if you really wanted to help that person you wouldnt just hurl insults then walk away. If you bring it up in a way youve kind of made it your problem.
People encounter problems ....then learn new tactics.... then.....
If I understand correctly, the fact that solving problems will make other problems appear is the endless suffering but an escape is be good at solving your problems when they can be managed. People would argue why bother solving them? Well my answer is that problems that aren't solved for too long might consumes you and tons of more problems will rise. Solving problems regularly will help you not being alienated. If you see being single as a problem, well your problem isn't that bad but if you're being single 10 years, that's a hell of a bigger problem it could do negative effects on your development, could kill your confidence, etc. Solve your godamn problems even if other one's are coming, being overwhelmed by problems will kill you inside in various ways. Micro problems if not solved early will become Macro problems real fast, learning how to solve problems will help you cope with life.

JP says on his YT channel that: '"I have been working on the belief that transcendent values genuinely exist; that they are in fact the most tangible realities of being.' Can someone give an example of a transcendent value?
maybe things like virtues ? not sure.
Freedom of choice. Equality of opportunity. The rule of just law. These are the transcendent values of democracy. Each sovereign human being should be free to make choices, share in opportunities, and be unconstrained by irrational or unfair laws or restrictions. If you study evolution and AI you will learn that optimal adaptation to the environment or task requires freedom, equality and rules. These things form the fabric of the universe. Truth.

For an example if someone can bench press 400 lbs, that’s a great deal of strength. But if someone can bench more that doesn’t mean you’re weak. A lot is a lot period. BTW: Trees are real and rats are not people are actually JP quotes; clearly they didn't pass through the normal screening process that analytical people have.

If you can find a useful and coherent statement in all of this, just say so: FROM JP FB PAGE:
We, humans, are the only creatures that are aware of our boundaries in space and time. When we discovered time, we discovered the end of our being. That made all the difference when it came to our self consciousness...
BTW what parts of the brain do is a subject for scientists Jordan; get back in your lane. Are you sure a rabbit running from a fox is not aware of its boundaries in space in time? In one conversation JP says that a rat is an excellent model of a human, and here he extrapolates that animals don't understand space and time. So how are they an excellent model of a human then JP? When we discovered time we discovered the end of our being? WTF does that mean? We know we will die someday? Literally you can take most of what JP says, dumb down the vocabulary a bit, and present it to a 2nd grade class without going over their heads.]
FROM 'WHO DARES SAY HE BELIVES IN GOD:
"What our consciousness seems to be for is to encounter those things that we have not yet encountered. Those things that have not yet been brought into being. For the encounter with potential. To transform the future into the present. You have apprehension about what role your choices might make into transforming that potential into one form of actuality or another. You might make mistakes. You can get out of bed and do the things you are supposed to do..."
[JP is telling me what my consciousness is for? Thank you so much. I previously thought I could get out of bed and transform the future into the present while I was unconscious.]
FROM 'ABORTION IS CLEARLY WRONG:
"Abortion is clearly wrong. I don't think anybody debates that. You wouldn't recommend that someone that you love have one."
[News flash JP: Lots of people think abortion is better than an unwanted child. There are about 40 million abortions world wide per year, and JP knows that none of them thought it was the right thing to do, and in none of them a loved one advised for an abortion? JP has no idea what 40 million people think and do, but he acts like he does. This is standard for him, he thinks something, so he extrapolates that to him knowing what every one else thinks, often characterizing the thoughts and actions of some unspecified We or They.]
He was wrong about MGTOW.
Lol! MGTOW is kinda irrelevant evolutionarily speaking because they fail to reproduce. Blaming women just because you are not enough of a man to get and keep a good woman is not the woman's fault, it's the man's fault. MGTOW is really a communist ideology of the sexes. "The reason I'm poor is the capitalist's fault, not my fault". Good luck with that. Just be forewarned what happened to the USSR, communist China and Venezuela!
@@thegeneralist7527 You're missing the whole MGTOW point. Women can't really love men. They care about themselves and maybe their offspring sometimes; because of this we don't see any benefit to handing our entire life over to women. It's a recipe for disaster. If there's a way to reproduce w/o doing this, that's the ideal.

@@hansolo7824 Thanks for your reply. I agree with your opinion to a degree. I can speak from experience of a failed first marriage with children, and a successful second marriage with a mixed family and grandchildren. I think men's ideas on marriage and families may need to change. The stresses of an education, career, relationship and children place many burdens on both men and women, and your perspective changes as you get older. I think it is a matter of values and priorities, and both men and women have to seriously ask themselves what they want out of life and be in agreement as things change.

Perhaps you can be educated in how stupid you are, with proofs showered upon you in every way. It doesn't sound possible but perhaps it is for those people who are not picked, who are rejected by their peers and at other social levels, for the very reason they are smart.
There isn't the assumption that the individual is always smarter than they think they are. I look at this as the arrogance/intellect equation.
Your emotions are controlled by your mind and your body? Duh. Do you have a point here dude? People are hurt when their status is reduced? Wow, this guy is a serious intellectual.]
@@harrisonwintergreen1147 Can you think of anyone who doesn't know that if their major decisions are disproved it leads to an examination of one's identity/purpose? I can't. Not even my 4th grade son doesn't know that. JP is the king of getting mileage out of nothing. If you have found any smart thing he has said anywhere, point it out to me. All I can find is nonsense, e.g.:
Rex TV, Nov.2019, with Jordan Peterson: Lets throw a dart on the timeline at 27:00 and see if JP has anything useful to say. Rex Murphy sounds like a dork btw, claiming that JP is the only person who thinks about things. What an idiot. 'When I hit the million mark, I didn't know what to do about that. The spoken word is permanent. A tremendous amount of my books have been sold in audio form..' [Oh crap I give up. Besides congratulating himself does JP say anything useful here? I saw one recent video where he talks about relative poverty, stating that poverty in the US is different from poverty in Africa. This is sort of like saying a second grader with advanced reading skills doesn't have the same skills as a high school senior with advanced reading skills. Wow, some serious intellectualism.]
Jumping ahead to 35:00. Rex says JP has really been on the mark. 'The scientific types are rather obsessed.' [Obsessed about what JP, and how do you know they are obsessed?] 'They are working 70 or 80 hours per week.' [How do you know the scientific types, whatever that means, are working 70-80 hours per week JP? Clearly you are not a scientific type, your statements are never scientific that I have heard, although you call yourself a 'credible scientist.'] 'They work on their thing, they have ambitions, their stuff never lasts, some of them are great and discover great things. Psuedo-disciplines, no one paid any attention to them. Serious people are doing serious things.' [Stuff discovered by scientific types never lasts? Like the discovery of DNA? Sure that hasn't lasted. Psuedo-disciplines? Like psychology? If you are claiming that psychology is a pseudo science, then I agree with you 100%. As for pseudo-intellectual, you have that market largely cornered.]
