I just love that every time you are trying to do real quick it turns out to be a huge project, i think every car guy can relate to that one .... amazing video as usual
In the days I only had one car, I was so afraid to take anything apart. I just knew I wouldn't be able to get it back together before I needed to go somewhere. Like the parts store. Thank God for the ability to have extra cars.
I have the same knob. I love it. It's the same size and shape as the factory knob, but made of titanium. It also doesn't break the bank, like a lot of other jdm titanium knobs.
love the honestly in your videos because they really are for the everyday guy that is obsessed with his car and like you we all can relate and say the same thing.. oh its a quick 10-15-20-30 minute job.... 4 hours or days later...... but in the end whatever it takes to get it dialed in is what it takes. keep them coming matt, ps. we miss the gt3
Couple of things you should confirm. 1. You put those plugs back in properly, the defroster clip and softtop clip are the same size. As long as the defroster switch lights up you've got them in the right spot 2. Look up OEM premium s2000 floot mats. They're absolutely gorgeous! Hendy Performance in the UK is pretty much the only place you can buy them though.
Ill explain more...pop the center console off again...push the boot all the way down over the shifter while holding the center console up so you are ziptieing it from the inside of the boot...then when you lower the console back into position it will have a perfect fold right where you want it and no excess fabric
I don't think he is talking about the base. The top piece. Fold in in from the top, then zip tie it. Kinda like blousing camouflage pants. It would eliminate the fold near the shift knob and wouldn't ever roll down.
Right. The issue is after tying it to the shaft, you still need to place the tiny holes in the boot on the plastic ring, then get it to snap back in place. If you breath wrong the boot falls out of place. I gave up after about 20 minutes of trying.
The zip tie is supposed to go under the alcantera then you flip the alcantera over it. Tighten the zip tie over the set nut after you tighten it then tighten the zip tie..flip it over, clip it in, done. Clean and simple.
If you plan to keep the S2k long term I probably would suggest ordering 1-2 extra/backup sets of OEM floormats and storing them. I would hope they don't discontinue them but as everything gets older, you never know.
I think a camera man would definitely add a whole new dimension to the depth of your videos Matt. But real kudos for making this all a one man show this far! Zoom in shots while your dealing with fine screws or dismantling a particular panel would help tremendously.
I think you want to fold the shift boot inside out (so you have the cone point out the bottom of the console), then ziptie the top of it to the lever, push down the console and the shift boot will fold itself back outside in. (If that makes any sense).
I like your little comments to yourself that you add on screen. I often find myself saying the exact same things. Haha good content as usual keep it up!
Did you know you can get the Euro OEM floor mats from a UK vendor? Those are higher quality and comes with additional pieces to cover the hump on the floor as well.
I just picked it up from the garage today to drive it and work on it this week. Wash, add coat of wax, pedal install, hood props, and a few other things.
I saw a video on CJ Pony parts where they zip tied the boot from underneath if that makes sense. Then it holds it in place and there's no way to see the zip tie.
Matt why don't you lift up the center console enough so you can zip tie the boot from the bottom with a little bit of the boot flipped inward that way you won't see any zip ties?
Have you thought about doing these projects on a table/bench so that you're filming from the front (camera facing you), instead of doing it on the Saber bench, from the side? It might give the viewer a better angle to see what you're doing - almost like the car shows on TV. Just a thought...
Hey Matt, little off topic from the video, but do you think you could give me a run down on financial advising? I saw your video explaining your story and it seems interesting.
watching you yank on that shift boot trim made me cringe as an S owner myself. glad you came to your senses and pulled the whole center console panel off to do it right! lol
Matt, normally you're pretty well prepared. You really should have researched this mod more before taking it on. Also, is that real titanium or just the color?
Adds a touch of class, insulates, sound deadens and captures/hides dirt. Mats are there to protect the carpet where the driver's/passenger's feet touch. It's far easier and cheaper to replace mats than the whole carpeting.
I'm saying that there's other type of flooring other than carpet but that guy has a point of it hiding dirt. But carpet is more of a hassle to clean since it easily stains when you can just scrub off other flooring material no problem. And "hiding dirt" can't be good for the people with allergies.
For such a "dialed in" guy. I'm surprised you don't browse reputable forums for some instruction on how to do certain things to your vehicle so it doesn't take forever and so you don't accidentally break things.
A random old episode I just watched, shows how far you have come especially with the quality of the videos.
Matt learning with you is one of the best parts of your videos. just an everyday man working on his own cars. keep at it man.
What steering wheel is that? Looks super nice
Euroboutique
Thanks
What has my life come to I've just watched a grown man mess with a shift boot and shifter for 10 minutes
I just love that every time you are trying to do real quick it turns out to be a huge project, i think every car guy can relate to that one .... amazing video as usual
Yep, that's how it goes. Ha, ha..
In the days I only had one car, I was so afraid to take anything apart. I just knew I wouldn't be able to get it back together before I needed to go somewhere. Like the parts store. Thank God for the ability to have extra cars.

Thanks man. GT3 video coming after the S2000 headlights.
It's so awesome seeing this come together with upgrades
Couple of things you should confirm.

Try zip tieing it from the inside of the boot before you put the center piece back on and fold it over that when you lower the console

That was the plan, but that boot was so difficult to get seated, it wasn't an option.
I don't think he is talking about the base. The top piece. Fold in in from the top, then zip tie it. Kinda like blousing camouflage pants. It would eliminate the fold near the shift knob and wouldn't ever roll down.

Had to do this to the shift boot on my sim racing rig, and yes, it works perfectly!
The zip tie is supposed to go under the alcantera then you flip the alcantera over it. Tighten the zip tie over the set nut after you tighten it then tighten the zip tie..flip it over, clip it in, done. Clean and simple.
Matt, it was pretty funny in the beginning.. and you had me going there for while.... I know you are have fun, More power to you my friend.
If you plan to keep the S2k long term I probably would suggest ordering 1-2 extra/backup sets of OEM floormats and storing them. I would hope they don't discontinue them but as everything gets older, you never know.

Some day...
I think you want to fold the shift boot inside out (so you have the cone point out the bottom of the console), then ziptie the top of it to the lever, push down the console and the shift boot will fold itself back outside in. (If that makes any sense).
Have you looked at any overhead camera rigs for the bench? Would be good for when your doing smaller jobs that require closeups.
This guy is a perfectionist
I like your little comments to yourself that you add on screen. I often find myself saying the exact same things. Haha good content as usual keep it up!
Did you know you can get the Euro OEM floor mats from a UK vendor? Those are higher quality and comes with additional pieces to cover the hump on the floor as well.
that mugan carbon shift knob would look mint with my civics faux carbon oem dash
Finding myself saying to my computer, "Break it, Matt! BREAK IT!!!!!!" Your patients is much better than mine bro (smile).
Ha, ha... I almost did.
Lift up the console a bit and put a zip tie underneath. No need to take off the shift knob. That will show you where to put the tie :)
Did you know about the premium 2 piece floor mats from UK? They are a pretty sweet buy.
www.hendyeshop.co.uk/genuine-honda-s2000-red-or-black-4-piece-mat-set-26740-p.asp
awong160 Agree - the 4 piece Honda oem mats are the business. 2 piece mats don't protect the raised section of floor.
I bet that GT350 sure is lonely LOL
I just picked it up from the garage today to drive it and work on it this week. Wash, add coat of wax, pedal install, hood props, and a few other things.
Yup, micrometer off ... wouldn't matter if it took all night, it has to be right! I know that feeling well, damn you OCD hehe
New Sub. I just wanna say good work on the S2K. I haven't seen a S2K that clean on the inside in a long time.
this guy's cars are probably clean 24/7 365. Respek!!
I saw a video on CJ Pony parts where they zip tied the boot from underneath if that makes sense. Then it holds it in place and there's no way to see the zip tie.
Where can I get that exact knob? Link?
I know the feeling, starts a small project, but it can take hours xD
Matt why don't you lift up the center console enough so you can zip tie the boot from the bottom with a little bit of the boot flipped inward that way you won't see any zip ties?
I just saw the other posting suggesting that lol
What are the plans for wheels? Volk, Spoon?
Volk CE-28N
You should check out the Japanese Honda premium floor mats! They are much better quality than the us spec floor mats.
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT WHEEL?! Helpful video
It's from Euroboutique.
You could always wear a GoPro on your head for the close in stuff :)
Have you thought about doing these projects on a table/bench so that you're filming from the front (camera facing you), instead of doing it on the Saber bench, from the side? It might give the viewer a better angle to see what you're doing - almost like the car shows on TV. Just a thought...
I have, but then I get all annoyed about having to put the table somewhere when I'm not using it.
Sounds like you need a dedicated film studio in the new garage...
My desire to watch won over my annoyance at it still being in 360p
Devon Regan It's HD now :)
it's 4k now!
What kind of shift knob is it? Look great! Great video ty
OEM Titanium Knob
Heheh, just saw your title Oem ti. Thanks anyway keep up the with the great video! Love the gtr
Hey Matt, little off topic from the video, but do you think you could give me a run down on financial advising? I saw your video explaining your story and it seems interesting.
Yep, call my office. 352-775-3002 and get an appointment on my schedule.
My god these are great videos
Haha, How do I get myself into these messes! epic
Is it worth me ordering the wash buckets? UK delivery?
I'm not sure about international delivery yet. They are due to launch in a few weeks.
Love your videos!! Have you ever considered using a head mount and a GoPro to get like a first person view of what you are doing
S2k all day 👍🏼
update on the garage coming?
I don't have much to discuss other than eventually getting to the cost of it.
Are you willing to part with those old floor mats?
I threw them away.
Will you sell your old floor mats? I currently don't have any in mine.. lol
They are already gone.
have you done a garage tour video?
Yeah, just search it on the channel.
where did your order the floor mats
www.hardtopguy.com
watching you yank on that shift boot trim made me cringe as an S owner myself. glad you came to your senses and pulled the whole center console panel off to do it right! lol
Great video
You've been grinding out the videos lately! Have you figured out the front bumper issue?
No, I'm going to wait to do the supercharger and fix it then.
what steering wheel is that?
Euroboutique
Good old plastic Hondas.. I'm surprised it withstood all that stress! BMW's just come apart like their supposed to.
In my experience BMWs are just the same.
much nicer like you said the other one looked like an atri joystick
Matt, normally you're pretty well prepared. You really should have researched this mod more before taking it on.
Also, is that real titanium or just the color?
I've done this about half a dozen times in my life with shift boots and knobs. Twice on an S2000, but it's been 10 years. I had to feel it out a bit.
when you said it looks straight............. I said uh oh. lol
I've always wondered why we use carpet mats to protect carpet. Actually why do cars even have carpet? It really serves no purpose.
Adds a touch of class, insulates, sound deadens and captures/hides dirt. Mats are there to protect the carpet where the driver's/passenger's feet touch. It's far easier and cheaper to replace mats than the whole carpeting.
You'd be surprised how worn the carpet gets without a floor mat. The carpet is a bit of sound proofing and it just looks nicer than a bare floor.
torque_300 hmm live in a country with winters and salt/snow on your boots it makes your like a whole lot easier having a mat
torque_300 I have clear plastic on top on my carpet floor mats. which of course sit on the carpet 😂😂
I'm saying that there's other type of flooring other than carpet but that guy has a point of it hiding dirt. But carpet is more of a hassle to clean since it easily stains when you can just scrub off other flooring material no problem. And "hiding dirt" can't be good for the people with allergies.
floor mats dog hair free :P
wow that boot was a pain to install...
is this going to be like a show car or something?
Ha, ha... No, I don't do shows.
Why alcantara? Wouldn't leather be a much more "obsessed" material? Alcantara is a pretty low quality material compared to leather.
It's what was on the car. I didn't order the OEM one yet. I wanted to see if this one worked better.
Alcantara feels and looks nice for occasional use, and for use in low-traffic areas. Better than plastic or vinyl.
Why don't you figure out a way to mount your camera on the cabinets above, so we can see what the heck you're doing?
That's a good idea.
Get a pump version suction cup from filmtools.
Anyone else still listening to nickel back?
Make it a drift beast and go with adam LZ to the track!
Ha, ha... Not going to happen. I'm too much of a pansy for that.
how come u dont read instructions before doing it matt
Good job...... Don't say quick you jinx it everytime
Why did you buy this car?
An S2000 was my first real sports car. I wanted another one to keep.
obsessed garage using zip ties?? whaaaaa
Ha, ha... I go through a lot of them.
They work wonders
You're supposed to ziptie from the bottom of the shift boot. Like this www.billswebspace.com/RedlineGoodsBMW3BootDIY_files/image024.jpg
You know me better than that. I attempted that first, but the little hole that line up the boot made it impossible.

Woooooah!!! 😲😲😲😲😲
