Waking the kitty up? What blasphemy do you speak of, oh blue one?

You cut that sleeve for your Cleo, Blue!
Blue printing out another copy of his script page because his cat was sleeping on the original reminds me of when a nobleman cut off a sleeve from an expensive shirt (I think) to not disturb their lover
😂 10/10 comparison. The original story is from ancient China where the emperor(i think) woke up and saw that his lover was still asleep next to him with his head on the emperors (very expensive) sleeve. Rather than wake him up, the emperor cut off the sleeve of his robe. Talk about big gay. Also red talked about it in one of her more recent vids

The Japanese version of that story is literally about a cat.

*HISTORICAL ACCURACY ADVISORY*:
In this video I describe the siege of Caffa (dead bodies trebuchet-ed into the city and infecting the refugees) as being the inciting incident of the Black Death. This account was first described by Italian chronicler Gabriele de Mussi, who wrote in response to the plague arriving in Italy. His account has more or less been the accepted story since the 14th century.
In the course of my research, I found various sources casting doubts on the accuracy of De Mussi's claims - but as a matter of protocol, I prefer to stick to consensus wherever it is available (in my case, CDC analysis), as the last thing I want to do is pick up a new and unverified take on XYZ and present it as The True Story. When in doubt, I'd rather be wrong with an out-of-date interpretation than wrong with a radical hot-take.
However! Since uploading this video, I've received a good amount of notes in the comments, on Twitter, and on the Discord notifying me that the doubts on De Mussi are rather more thorough than I first took them for.
Essentially, De Mussi's account of Caffa is not an eyewitness account (we knew that) but follows a handful of tropes and cut a handful of analytical corners that make the entire scene of uh, how did I put it ... "Yeeting the s**t out of their plague-infested corpses," not in fact the cause of the infection, at best, and at worst is a wholesale fabrication. Previous analysis assumed that open-wound contact between the dead and the people of Caffa were responsible for transmission, but this may not in fact have been sufficient to infect the population and cause, you know, all the rest. The new conjecture hinges on rats entering the city from the Mongol camp and stowing away on seafaring grain shipments. This may explain why the ships leaving Caffa were able to go so far and dock at so many ports without any apparent trouble, but only suffered infections when the grain shipments were opened. Whatever the ultimate case, there is sufficient academic doubt about the traditional story I relayed that I should let you all know the narrative is not so clear cut, even after so many years.
As always, I appreciate those of you who took the time to share this information with me. It's rightfully embarrassing to make a mistake like this, and I'll strive to do better next time.
TL;DR: prooooobably not actually the mongol corpse-trebuchets that did it, might have been rats in grain shipments. Sorry.
God on judgement day: "So the _initial_ reports were you launched plague corpses into a city to infect it..."
Mongols: "We did what?! No no no we only murdered, raped, burned, tortured, and pillaged. Strike all those random plague deaths from our record."
God: *stern look* "...And yet I'm going to include them on principle."

Fun fact: Scotland was unaffected by early waves of plague while their rival England was hit severely. The Scottish King believed this was because God was protecting the Scottish and helping them fight the English. So he ordered his army to invade England. Once they got there soldiers started getting the plague retreated back to Scotland and spread the plague there. This lead to a great loss of life as Scotland didn't have the necessary preparations for plague response due to the thought that they were protected.

My favorite anecdote about the Black Death is that the plague doctors were the first major practitioners of aseptic technique. Their masks were stuffed with flowers to ward off miasma (making them primitive air filters,) they scrubbed themselves down with soap before putting on their uniforms, only wore said uniforms in infected areas and cleaned them after removing them, etc. Their science was faulty, but the techniques involved were effective and their concepts are still used in medicine today.
Compare that to the Victorian Era where a physician was thrown in an asylum for suggesting that doctors should _wash their hands._

Best conclusion ever. This is not debatable. Just do it. Just fkin do it.
Sorry, but when doctors say only one particular type of mask ACTUALLY works, what's the point?
@@DavidbarZeus1 Say what now ? All masks help to protect other people from your own germs. They aren't all as effective, but they help regardless.
Now, only very specific masks (N95) actually help protecting you from other people's germs.
But since N95 are way more expensive than basic cloth mask, it's more efficient to have people limit their contacts with other people (social distancing) and use basic cloth masks to reduce their own dangerosity towards other people, while saving the N95 stocks for the medical staff who is in unavoidable direct contact with infected people.
That's the very broad "how to slow/stop a pandemy"
Adrien Bellaiche Not according to either the doctors or the mask makers. They might help when one has a cough, but that’s about it. Check what the makers of the masks say. At best they say they are effective in stopping the spread of bacteria, others only work to stop pollutants
@@DavidbarZeus1 You said one true thing : it depends on the masks.
That being said, all textile masks, even the most rudimentary "t-shirt raised to the nose" still helps reducing the amount of droplets you expel.
I don't care what "doctors or mask makers" say. I work in labs where we tested around 4000 textile masks, and we have the technology, the experimentations, and the experience, to say masks DO reduce the amount of droplets you expel outwards. It's never 100%, but it's not the goal here.
The goal is "reduce it enough so the reproduction rate consistently drops below 1, and the pandemic extinguishes itself"
So yeah.
@@adrienconverset6571 Droplets are reduced, yes, but that doesn't really matter with diseases. They can spread simply because you BREATHE, and the masks simply aren't fine enough to stop viruses and bacteria that spread like that. If you cough or sneeze, sure, the masks will help with that, but why would you go out if you're noticeably sick?
Besides all that, why are we terrified of a disease that AT WORST only kills 1 in 20 people that it infects AND has a known medicine to treat it, a medicine we have known works on similar diseases for 15 years? This particular versions of COVID is only novel because we haven't seen this PARTICULAR strain before, but the base disease is well known and we have effective medicines for the base disease

@@AntediluvianRomance you can eat squirrels, just not plague infected ones. Or their brain. Because that would put you at risk for Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, which is a fun little disease that eats away at your brains until you go insane from dementia and die.
@@AntediluvianRomance You realize it's the fleas, yeah? ...
Or am I wrong? I don't know anymore, every time I say something the universe slaps me back into place.
"Whatever the hell 2020 is doing"
"Oh no it seems you have contracted big dead"
"Yeet the sh*t out of some plague infested corpses"
"Had the added affect of *uhhh* plague stuff"
"And effectively but Constantinople under house arrest"

I’m sorry but he’s just so cute I can’t help but cuddle him and pet him
@@randomgamer625 I am resisting that very urge even as I type. Especially since my cats hate when I pick them up. :P
"One more and we can summon Exodia"
My god! This line! Also, come on, let's go get that last one and summon Exodia!
I kinda feel like exodia is not on our side of the battlefield this time though...
What should we call the next one?
The Wrath of Ra, Exodia's Hand, maybe the Great Dying.
The Pestilence!
We can pull Exodia, use all of the dragon balls, find the one piece and have SAO Jesus kun at our aid and this year will still find a way to fuck us over, hell, all those things I said are probably against us too.
No, no, please let's not.
Are we all forgetting how smallpox absolutely crushed the Natives in the New World, wiping out up to 90% of the population in spots? I think CV in fact is the effect of Exodia, and now we're getting Kaiba'd.
Ottoman empire greatest ally: The Plague.
And European infighting.
Name a better duo
Just like covid is helping China
I thought it's greatest ally was the Recliner Kingdom
@@fnumbuh And let's just steer clear of that little clusterfuck you just tried to open.
7:00 Cleo is too cute. That cat made this ordeal so much better.
I like how "Yoinked" is a word now (5:45)
Blue: I won't be talking about Italy.
Me: Who are you and what did you do with Blue?
Red is probably standing by with a rolled up newspaper just in case
"You have contracted big dead" HAHAH
idk but this made me laugh so hard 🤪🤣🤣
Aaah...Cleo so pure! Also it's nice to see talk of other parts of the plague.
"Going full Amontillado and bricking up houses." Nice Edgar Allan Poe reference! My favorite and possibly the scariest of his stories.
7:04 blue: sorry have to stop the video for the cat
Me: of course don’t disturb the kitty *goes to click off the video*
Blue: resumes talking
Me: oh yeah, um I knew that was a joke-totally
It wasn't a joke- he mentioned in text that he printed an extra copy of the last page of his script.
"Somebody please invent medical school."
I laughed too hard at this.🤣
An ad started right after the line, "that's the end of the script". 🤣 Perfect timing!!
7:20 I love my hometown just casually showing up in some video and Blue just patting it on the back saying "Good job buddy"
” let's get away from the worries of our modern world and talk about plague!”
You know things are bad when you are sitting home because of a pandemic, and listening to the history of pandemics
I hate how many parallels I'm seeing. Yes, of course I know there's been a huge improvement in medicine, but in events it's getting close. Started in China, took a nice and comfy sit down in Italy and is touring Europe, caused by people giving zero shits about how it actually gets spread, it can come back but the world is catching on and exists during some idiot government systems.
One could argue that many of the worst pandemics since the Plague have resulted from idiot governments that should know better by now.
China is a frequent starting point because it is a BIG territory with LOTS of people, and interconnected cities. Also a tendency toward governments that favor appearance over substance (Totalitarian if you will), and punish "news that makes the local officials look bad." China isn't unique in this, just best recorded. The 1918 Flu is a modern example of that for the USA, and again 100ish years later.
@@LRoseArts The irony of this statement is that when the news of COVID first happened Trump was in favor of locking down and restricting international travel and placing movement sanctions on China immediately, but everyone resisted the ideas and started calling him a racist/xenophobe because of it, all the while the WHO actively lied about the spread of the virus, suppressed the reports and analysis coming from Taiwan (as well as actively denying the existence of Taiwan as a sovereign nation) all at the beck and call of the Chinese government (not surprising, considering the WHO is ran by Tedros, a former member of the the Ethiopian Communist Party and was himself part of several cover-ups of disease outbreaks during their tyrannical rule over Ethiopia). And it was these lies spread by the WHO that were propped up and supported by much of the Left as well to decry Trump and call him a dictator for wanting to secure the borders against the oncoming pandemic. Then, when the disease finally arrived because of these policies they played dumb to it and proceeded to go full authoritarian on their lockdown policies, blamed Trump for their own policies for causing the virus to occur, and then when people started to demand the economy re-open they called they claimed those people were "killing grandma" despite the fact it was people like DeBlasio who were relocating people to nursing homes (The same DeBlasio who has actively targeted and persecuted Jewish communities during his administration). With all this also being compounded by both the constant flip-flopping on advice from Fauci and the rampant misinformation campaign involving Hydroxychloroquine, as well as RUclips and other agencies constantly banning videos by actual doctors trying to discuss and provide better information on the subject.
Then after Georg Floyd all of a sudden everyone forgot about it, and those same politicians who were insulting and decrying actual peaceful protests for the economy to re-open were giving political immunity to violent rioters who decided to burn down communities, smash libraries, destroy statues of abolitionists and the founding fathers, and conquer parts of cities like the CHAZ while also demanding the disbanning of law enforcement. All the while said same politicians still refused to let businesses open back up again and encouraged people to stay home except for the rioters. Because apparently according to the politicians if you're part of an identitarian cult then that makes you immune to COVID, as evidenced by people like the mayor of DC.
And some people are confused about why Trump would want to pull funding and support for the WHO. Really makes you think, doesn't it?
@Enetheru1999 I think you mean "When he has time and time again allowed the states time and time again to botch everything else." You and I both know that if he did try to issue sweeping national lockdowns, which even then are of dubious legality to begin with, that the media wouldn't thrown a fit and used it as an excuse to label him as an autocrat "worse than hitler" and every other slur unde the sun. Further, such lockdowns and measures regarding internal movement are legally under the perview of state governments, which need I remind you did engage in massive authoritarian lockdown policies, many of which violated constitutional law. Also, the "hoax" bit is a statement taken out of context, if you actually paid attention to the speach you will know that it wasn't covid he was calling a hoax, as that would make no sense as he was was the one calling for better responses to it early on WELL BEFORE the democrats were even willing to acknowledge it existed. What he was calling a hoax was both the the media overreaction and misinformation campaign regarding it (which you apparently fell for) and the manners in which the LEft tried to take advantage of the situation themselves, such as with how they kept trying to slow down the emergency stimulis bills by instead forcing their own "stimulus" bills that were choked with dozens of trojan-horse proposals that involved forcing federal requirements for "diversity quotas" on businesses. Then again one shouldn't be surprised by such deciet, as we can see it happening again in California where Democrats have proposed a bill that removes their civil-rights legislature under what they call an "affirmative action" bill despite it not mentioning affirmative action in the slightest.
Stop buying into leftist "journalism" and media that actively lies to you, and pay attention to actual centrist media sometime. Donald Trump didn't fail the US, the Democrats failed the US by bending the knee to the extremist far-left and the authoritarians, who would much rather constantly shout "orange man bad!" than address actual problems like the crippled economy, the growing threat of China (the people who caused the outbreak to begin with and lied through their teeth the whole time, and who actually do engage in human rights violations like concentration camps and are engaged in modern colonialism), and the dismantling of Hong Kong.
@James Harding Forget the KoolAid.
@FlopFlop Have you tried not watching exclusively CNN? Perhaps you should watch content made by actual moderates and centrists who actually engage in critical thinking and journalism, like Time Pool
