Adam is a fabulous boy. You can just see how happy he is with the activities and the exercise and it really is great to see. Such a shame that his parents didn't really encourage him in any way, just as I find it a shame and such a waste of a childhood when parents don't encourage any creativity or freedom in their children, or just want them to work, study etc. I'm not a sporty/exercising person myself, however I would never discourage my child from doing something that they enjoy, especially if it helps them be healthier or happier, or more creative.

its so sad he is crying out and he loved it yet all his pessimistic parents can say is i dont think there is much call for mountain biking round here..and well there is no mountains..AGGGHHHH maks me so sad they are using there son and putting words in his mouth to make excuses for themselves and to continue to be fat and lazy. Poor kid hope he has managed to break away and sort himself out because he loved it.

I found it hard to watch Adam's parents constantly rooting for him to fail, trying to bring him down, pass on their insecurities and break his spirit of which he has so much. The look on her face like she'd won by dissuading her son to do healthy things he enjoyed. Parents that do that don't deserve wonderful children like him. I hope he kept on fighting them!

Ok so I'm overweight and I have fibromyalgia so find it very hard to do exercise, yet I envy the couple who have this amazing opportunity to do this awesome hike and bike rides and who are throwing it back in to the hosts face. Their poor son wants to do it all so badly and if they were concerned parents they'd let him as it would help with his weight issues.

You obviously don't know anything about it as you'd know that it's a very painful condition which affects the joints and makes it hard for me to walk ie not being able to exercise! Now any intelligent person would realise that it doesn't matter how much or little you eat if you're not getting enough exercise you will not lose weight. I also have chronic ibs which affects my eating I don't eat much but you wouldn't know that because you don't live with me! I'm actually a size 16 which is average here in the uk but hey you keep going around telling young girls to stop eating and maybe then you'll shame them into getting an eating disorder and then you would have done your job! After watching the camping vs borneo episode, these 2 families aren't so bad at all! To their credit, hiking in brand new boots could be painful. Also, they're out of their comfort zone and became irrationally scared about getting hurt. Hiking downhill is less tiring but could be more challenging than uphill. They did pretty well indeed and I hope they try getting out of their comfort zone more often. I think both familes managed to make both holidays successful. Last time I went to vegas i really hated it cuz of the strong smell of cigarette everywhere i went. Because of that i didn't go around to try the buffet or see the beautiful hotels. Yosemite, on the other hand, was so breathtaking, so grand and pristine.

Less than an hour from Vegas is the Hoover Dam. Real cool day trip. Then theres Cottonwood Cove on Lake Mead. Rent a houseboat for a few days, relax & fish. Then head southwest. A 5 hour drive puts you in SoCal. If u cznt find something for you there, check your pulse! Pick up a car at Enterprise car rental at McCarran & return it at John Wayne, Ontario or LAX.
If youd rather do Yosemite, fly in/out of SJC. Plan a week & do wine country & a trip down to Big Sur via PCH. Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz, the Winchester Mystery House & even SF can easily be worked in.

Really shameful that the Lawsons went into the second holiday with negative attitude and gave up too early. Especially as their son Adam was so enthusiastic and wanted to go on with the activities. Most days its just a hour long stroll but on sundays i walk from the port in the next town to close to where i live (8 miles). The first time i did the 8 mile walk i was exhausted but i kept doing it, not i can do like 8 and a half miles on a sunday but you have to do it gradually.

What I saw was Harrison-Wolf's being good sports about everything in Vegas. Never outwardly grumbling. And the adult Lawson's being the worst vacation partners ever! The Harrison-Wolf's were very encouraging but perhaps knowing the Lawson's were obese, they could've chosen something equally as beautiful but not quite as taxing. Like lodge camping in Wyoming or Montana.
Although, the Lawson's should put Adam in scouting for his health. He should be able to do all the things the Harrison-Wolf's do because he's really enjoying it and it's SO good for him.
Mrs Lawson was a sourpuss the ENTIRE time at Yosemite. Even when she KNOWS Adam WANTS to do something, she's negative about it. If I were then, I'd be embarrassed by their negativity.
At the end Mrs Harrison-Wolf said Adam needed a diet, BUT if he had the opportunity to do the outdoors things he enjoys with people he likes (&w/o the negativity of his mom), he'd get in shape really quickly.

Oh come on. He's a happy boy who lives joyfully likes to try new things. Should he eat less and exercise more? Yeah, but get off your high horse - all in all those people are raising a positive, happy, adventurous kid who can fall and pick himself up.
He was the brightest light on the show, and whether or not you like it, his good attitude and can-do spirit are things his parents instilled in him. Much like you, me, and the rest of humanity, they aren't perfect - that doesn't mean they aren't good.
You take one aspect of that charming boy's life and used it to reduce him and his parents to one negative dimension, and that, my friend, is far more fucked up than raising a fat child. That kid seems like a delight to be around. You seem like a intolerant, fat-shaming crank, who probably got one hell of a judgement-boner from publicizing your "heartbreak."
Even the fit mother didn't reduce the family down like that - she said, quite reasonably, that it would be best if he lost some weight so he might be healthier and better able to enjoy the outdoors. She didn't wring her hands and announce to the world his parents' awful neglect made her weep.
In other words, fit mom and her family had a sense of decency and proportion that your sanctimonious ass sadly lacks.

I have done both holidays,( Vegas and Yosemite). Yosemite wins for me every time, ( though hiking at the Grand Canyon was fantastic on the Vegas trip).
