The one thing people ALWAYS forget to mention is the lack of high level medical care. They have a trauma center, yes, but very limited cardiac and neurological care, so you’ll be transported out of state for those. And although you may like the weather, the heat is pretty intense during the long summers.

We’ve lived here 30 years. The medical and doctors here are not good nor do they stay longer than several months before they depart. Californians have not helped things here, being a former CA person it’s not a compliment. Great video Ruby! FYI - Terribles used to be called Terrible Herbst. Owned by Edward R. Herbst, who was credited with becoming "the P.T. Barnum of gasoline" by engaging in unusual marketing strategies, undercutting the competition with low prices, and pioneering the convenience store model. According to his son, Jerry, each time the elder Herbst would open a new gas station, competitors would bemoan the move: "Here comes that terrible Herbst", inspiring the chain's nickname.

When we made the decision to leave Vermont, mainly because the taxes were so overwhelming we also decided that Las Vegas could work for us, but after doing a lot of research we decided Las Vegas was to pricey and to congested, so we ended moving to Pahrump, Nevada which is 45 minutes west of Las Vegas. This town has everything you need, the housing market is 50% lower then the Las Vegas market. We ended up buying 20 acres of property that already had a well and septic system installed. We had a modest 2 bedroom , 2 bath house built for under $100,000 and we carry no mortgage on it. The property taxes are 0.5%. Me and my wife are retired from the military and now are independent computer system analyst for a defense contractor from Las Vegas. Hello, I left Las Vegas after almost 20 years of living there. I loved it there and I moved back 18 months ago to Southern California where I lived for 30 yrs before I retired.
There is nothing bad to say about Vegas. Unless we live in the area that is in the North part. I left and I missed it, but I have reasons that I had to let it go. I still drive back but I sold all of my properties and left after my son died by suicide, there is nothing that can keep me there. I owned many mansions there and I was really happy there until that untimely event. I am back living closer to relatives here. I had 20 great years! I get comps because I am and have been the seven stars level, I paid nothing for 40 yrs + and I got the best penthouse they offer, but the casinos do not give you things for free, you earned the comps and cruises etc. Which means you play a lot, they comp you a lot. Losing or winning is just the games and timing. Good luck to you. I now live about 6 minutes from the nearest casino and Harrah's is about 25 minutes away. I don't gamble here in the Indian tribe casinos, they never paid much. You are young, you will love it in Vegas. Your RUclips channel will do very well because you have access to all the largest and nicest casinos. We used to play off the strips and we won every night. We hit the floors after all the tourists left. We won and went home. Even though we have the room always comped. That is the only way you control your gambling. You cannot play like NG, the Big Jackpot etc. You come back later, you still can play every day for 6-8 hours but you don't bet $250.00 a spin for that long. We played at Red Rocks and Palms and we had fun there. Good luck! Glad you like Vegas, I did!!!

Nice video. Your move sounds like most people who relocate to Vegas as they immediately look to relocating in the suburbs. I think the challenge is most realtors are also locals and they just don't know the actual city of Las Vegas so they start recommending the suburbs or the city of Henderson. Unlike most cities where you move out to the suburbs for land...today's builders are putting homes on postage stamp lots and you are on top of your neighbors in the suburbs so you may want to think about moving back into the city because Las Vegas residents knew how to live in the 60's & 70's.. Las Vegas has the "Vintage Vegas" neighborhoods where the lots are all 1/3 acre plus, mature landscape (you would never believe you are in a desert), custom homes and are only minutes from the Strip, Downtown and airport. My favorite neighborhoods are Scotch 80's, Rancho Bel Air, Rancho Circle, Alta area and McNeil Estates.

Also your pros and cons were 100% legit. My biggest plus to moving out here is that, even though Nevada can be a bit pricey, I still have been able to financially 'catch up' and even get slightly ahead. My wife and I have stared to be able to do things that we could never have done in California, due to not being able to afford it. My only big regret is that we didn't move out here 10 years sooner.

My sister lives in LV and we have visited several times, staying with her family for a week outside of Vegas, and staying on the strip and downtown at the casinos as a true vacation. I really enjoyed your video and frank impressions of the actual living conditions around the area. As a reference, living in VA, we have a state income tax, a 6% sales tax, a tax on food at the grocery store, and a state and city or county tax on food in restaurants. We are about 2 hours south of Washington, DC, and the prices of houses, of all goods and services, (in the area around DC, called Northern VA), and the cost of owning a car, and getting around, etc. is atrocious. Personally, I would be very happy to live in the suburbs of LV and enjoy the restaurants, casinos, and touristy things that the big city has to offer. I really envy that you guys get to enjoy all of that, partially subsidized by your RUclips channel. Will keep watching.

The best advice I could give you after reading your post is don't do it but if you feel you might want to do it spend a month there. Vegas is one of those cities where it does not cost any more money to live in a one bedroom apartment with the kitchen for a month than it would if you were to rent it out right. Places to recommend our budget suites. They have a kitchen and a bedroom and what more do you need. The entire month my cost you $1500 at most. I left Virginia for the same reasons you're positing here and moved to Las Vegas and regretted it. Vegas is a strange place in that of all the cities in the United States is has the greatest old Laura based on the "shiny object" phenomenon. Casinos bells lights whistles, excitement excitement excitement. And then you get there and you realize that the casinos are good for a few days, fun for a few weeks maybe and then you never go again. This is it just me saying it. It's everyone that lives here. I came from a beautiful part of the state of Virginia near the University of Virginia green mountains hillsides farms vineyards. You're not going to get any of that out here. Is not a single blade of grass that grows anywhere for 400 miles. The desert is rocks and dirt. You may find the architecture depressing. It's Soviet era style housing. One house next to each other separated by about 3 feet and I'm not kidding, the exact same house over and over and over again for miles to see. There's no lakes, believe me don't count Lake Mead is just a bowl surrounded by rocks with water diverted from the Colorado River. There are no mountains with trees on then they're just bare boulders and rocks again no single thing can grow on them. I won't get into the summer heat because you probably have already read about it but the question is have you lived in it. Can you live in 110° plus four 120 days in a row. It's a good question really. One day anybody can put up with it two days three days but over time it can become Chinese torture. You'll never leave the house. You won't be able to medically leave the house as these temperatures can kill you if you even walk more than a mile. Even in an emergency you better hope that if your car breaks down someone comes by to get you fast if you're on a deserted road because you could die. Happens here all the time. Something which is a touchy subject but has to be considered is the demographics. 90% of all people moving to Las Vegas are from the worst parts of California and untold numbers from Tonga and other Pacific Island countries. They don't really like white people nor do they mix. There's a heavy heavy Hispanic population, greater than 50% absolutely. You might find the fact that this is really not "an American city" antithetical to what you might presume. I'm a physician and I can speak to this subject in depth and width clarity which is to say that 90% of all nurses in the hospital systems in Las Vegas are from the Philippines. They're really not that competent. I'll have to leave it at that. The doctors all have have five syllable last names. They're from the Congo, Nigeria, Syria, India… You will never find a doctor named McCarthy let's say. The healthcare system here is absolutely abysmal. It is ranked 49th in the United States for both quality of doctors and hospitals and this is not a place you want to get real sick in. I'm not sure how old you are but if you are over the age of 65 I would take this into consideration very seriously. The bells and whistles and shiny objects that I was referring to is a temporary and transient excitement one gets when seeing people moving about on the strip. Looks fun doesn't it? Remember that's Vegas's allusion. You walk around the strip a few times and you get tired of it as I've mentioned but also keep in mind that the demographics of the Las Vegas strip have changed dramatically.. A lot of shootings and robbing is now which was not the case years ago you need to be very careful. These are things to be aware of and also things you might miss about being in a beautiful part of the country with all of its warts and taxes and so on. Spend a month here. You'll thank me later

true that. also, the schools/universities have casino owners on their boards who pay hefty sums so that they can keep the education levels subtly low, else who else will work in their hotels/resorts/casinos if the majority attains higher education. Also, just my experience, I was there in 2016 and March last year, as an example of the attitude of the people there, when I asked for the parking lot, the security folks told me that the only way was thru the casinos. Another example, we were purchasing weed and the girl at the counter said we could take it to Arkansas on the flight just so she could sell us $5 worth of gummies more. I mean, had it been some poor innocent folks who’d have believed her, they’d have easily fallen for her words as she was really nice and soft spoken, the result might well have been them serving jail time for carrying weed. Stayed there for 3 days and found few more examples like these. Now, imagine having a family there and your kids growing up in that environment, it’d work in the shorter run, but ultimately, people will see thru such motives. So, choose wisely, Vegas is just to spend some time and then come back home. 😊

Great video! Moved here from the east coast a few years ago. We first got COX for internet and had outages so we switched to Century Link and have had zero outages and amazing upload/download speeds.
As a local, ask for locals discount EVERYWHERE. Not everyone has them but nobody advertises them, always worth the ask. Lots of military/veteran discounts too.
Many of the hotels offer 3 hours of free parking for locals, you use your drivers license as proof of residency.
    Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas!

I hope you’ll feel more comfortable with sharing your experiences in vlog style or as your experiences happen. This video seemed like it was delayed intentionally. Starting on my 12th year here. Still love it! Thankfully for me, someone loved my house in Summerlin and WAY overpaid for it last year. Moved to North Las Vegas and I like it better than living in Summerlin. The far Northwest area towards Mt. Charleston off the 95 is growing and that would have been my second choice. Cons are car registration, stupid drivers, petty criminals everywhere and the price of entertainment is ridiculous now. Pro's- way too many to list. Never a dull moment....bring on the heat!!

I have always enjoyed watching you because not only are you honest, you talk about things that not everyone talks about. I would expect "living in LV" videos to almost be more tourist-oriented, like what you'll see for a brief trip, highlighting a lot of things people already know - it's less expensive off strip, it's hot in the summer, gas prices are high. Like and subscribe! You go further and talk about things that people actually want to know about, things they will understand with context from where they themselves live - speed traps! State taxes! Insurance! It's like talking to a friend after they moved out there, an honest and up-front chat where you learn something. I've always loved how peaceful that desert makes me feel and wondered what it would be like to just live out there, and this video was super interesting and helpful!
Wish you guys continued and growing success, I'll be watching your videos with envy when those first cold fronts come in here in Madison. Hope to catch you guys for a quick hello next time we come out!

My hubby and I used to go from L.A. to Vegas about every 2 months in the 90's and early '00s and stay on the strip. Then my parents moved to Vegas in 05. Because we always ended up staying with them instead of a resort, we rarely went to the strip and just went to the local casinos. It was so much easier to drive home to my folks from a local casino and sooo much less cigarette smoke! I don't think we've been to the strip in 15 years. And we don't miss it. Even though my folks have passed, we miss the peace and tranquility of being in Las Vegas off strip. The shopping and restaurants are amazing. The streets are cleaner and wider, less traffic than in L.A. and the people are so much nicer. Although, I do say everytime I'm there that I miss seeing grass. And I'm am not one for the 110 degree heat.

BTW take a long drive thru VT, NY or PA in spring or fall sometime, those are truly THE most beautiful drives I have ever seen…by far. 1) Don't confuse Vegas with the West Coast. Vegas is unique.
    2) Generally speaking, states with no income tax more than make up for it in property tax, so when you do purchase, the other shoe will drop.

I've been living in Vegas most of my life. What I love is how all the roads are wide and simple to get to anywhere in town. There's free parking everywhere, and no matter where you're at, theirs always a gas station, pharmacy, grocery store, bar, and a restaurant within just a mile or two away. And the local casinos really do make this town pleasantly different. I live near the South Point and we also have the Silverton and Green Valley Ranch close by and we are always at one of those, usually for the food. The dining here is endless. But I agree, Cox sucks and the straight triple digit temperatures for several months is brutal. By September, you're ready to die.

I think we got here at the peak of Housing prices going up. Wasn't a lot available. The worst thing about the heat is the fact that it can be hot 24 hours a day with no relief. Three AM and it's 95.
