Winwood is in his mid-late 60s here, yet his voice hasn't aged at all. Plus - damn him! -he has all his hair! The only thing better than his genes is his musical talent. Steve's been pumping out hits since his teens and has a rock-solid body of great tunes he can proudly call his own. And his voice holds up beautifully and smoothly. I never thought about it, but the comments about him being among the most underrated musicians are right on.
Just had brain surgery. I’m a runner. Looking for hope and inspiration. This song by Steve did it. .. It used to seem to me that my life ran on too fast And I had to take it slowly just to make the good parts last But when you're born to run it's so hard to just slow down So don't be surprised to see me back in that bright part of town I’m back… in the High Life. Thanks Steve. I have more appreciation than I can write down in words…
Anybody else watching this post-COVID, missing the high life, wanting all the doors we closed one time to open up again? I've just learned this song to sing this weekend. It takes on a new meaning now.
Yes, Steve is the true king of melody and songwriting (as well as a very decent guitarist and even better organist)! But I don't think he's underestimated that much... in my generation (I was born in the early 60s) he's very well known and appreciated, if not even loved, on German radio his songs came every day, especially in his very famous Rock/Pop period in the 80's-90's. Today, yes, he may not be so well known for his brilliant music (no wonder when you see the rubbish music a lot of young people listen to, it's all big light shows and rap dance and veeery expensive live concerts). .. Anyway, WE know that S. Winwood just makes very, very good music that brings beautiful melodies and good vibes to us... my heart, what more could you ask for? ✌
I totally agree. He is the best musician/ performer/songwriter/soulful white singer of this era, past 55 years, since Spencer Davis days. Those who know him well get it.
Steve gave me .....in my teens breathing room and common sense understanding love in a time of not feeling any unconditional from my own mother and family
I was playing this cd in my car when I left Virginia for Florida 1986, just played in in my Jeep over Memorial Day in Virginia with my mom headed to Arlington Cemetery to pay respects to my brother. Song has so much meaning!! after a year and a half of not spending time with family we are back in the high life again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song alone puts him in the pantheon of great non-electric instrumentalists of the last 50 years. He could go on a bluegrass tour tommorow and not be out of place. And if that wasn't enough, he's also a master of synth.
@ snidelywhiplash Thank you so much for leaving that link🙂👍🏻 I've just watched the footage. It's a marvellous performance and one that I'd not seen before. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
another multi-talent on the organ: Randel Bramblett , years before playing sax in the Traffic Woodstock Tour, a great and humble musician and songwriter
Wonderfull!!! Bellisima canción extraída del talento de uno de los mas grandes maestros y compositores de la música de todos los tiempos. Dankeschön Herr Winwood!
Who could not like this? He played every instrument on the studio album this was included on. Do the down voters have more talent than that? If so, okay you have the Mojo, otherwise STFU
I remember when this album came out. I had it on casette tape and I played it so many times one summer that I wore it out. For those millenials reading this... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassette_tape
This is indeed a, "Blue Eyed Soul Brother"! You get my drift. Truly, a gifted man that has shared his musical genius with us for many years. Well done Steve.
Nobody in this crowd is moving. It's like a mass psychosis of some kind. What the hell is going on? Have none of you ever experienced what he's singing about? Dullards
+Micky B : Yep, I'd agree with you there. It's only based on two stroke rolls, but it's an integral part of the track. Sign of a great musician, sticks out like a sore thumb when it's NOT there. The genius of it is, who else would have thought of playing it that way?
This is such a beautiful song, by such an accomplished artist. However, the bass player was hitting a wrong note in the chorus. Grates on the ears. Still one of the greatest popular songs of all time.
Being American born in N. California in 1967, my ratings for the UK. #1 Beatles #2 Steve Windwood. #3 Gensis. #4 ACDC. Ireland #1 Thin Lizzy, Thin Lizzy, Thin Lizzy.
Genius , legend, visionary, hero and an absolute fantastic musician. One of the few musicians me and my children all adore.

Hes not necessarily underrated. 33 on Rolling Stone's greatest singers. Still good, very good.
Truly, one of the greatest multi-instrumentalists, composers, vocalists, and lyricists of his generation. Up there with Sting, Gabriel, Townsend...
"with" . . . in my opinion, SW left them all behind long ago
Agreed, and one of my personal favorites
Can't agree more that Steve Winwood left them all behind many years ago....a private man with one hell of a talent and still sounds brilliant 👏 👌
You forgot Van Morrison!
Love van one of a kind, but i have to say sw leaves all listed behind .
One of my favorite 80's song. Just a perfect song

Learned this coming out a divorce doldrums.
Forgot it for years.
This week I'm digging back up 👍
This song came on while I was doing my supermarket shopping, it gave me a much needed lift! 😅
Higher Love - things look so bad everywhere
This man is just awesome, and way before his time with this song. God bless you Steve. Much love.
I’ve never read even one negative / non-appreciative word about Steve.
Truly a phenomenal musician.
what a great fucking song. One of the best written songs in rock history.
Compared with most of his peers, the years have been kind to our Stevie.
He is absolutely one of the most talented--and easily one of the most under appreciated--musicians of all time.
Simply put, winwood is a legend!!!!
Simply put, he is a legend!!!!
I promise you his bank account doesn’t make him feel under appreciated at all. He’s been making money from music since he was 10 years old.
He's also in the rock and roll hall of fame

Even at his age looks amazing and still sounds awesome. Love steve winwood
Steve Winwood is one of the Best musicians in the world. He could play any instrument well !
Peter Iacontino he's a legend man!
I totally agree. He is the best musician/ performer/songwriter/soulful white singer of this era, past 55 years, since Spencer Davis days. Those who know him well get it.
He did it all on his Arc Of A Diver album, except for some of the lyrics!
Arc Of A Diver album was all Steve except for some of the lyrics!
He can play instruments well he is still alive.
We will be back in the high life again!
Stay strong everyone!
I have loved him for whole life (since as a teen, that is) This is so appropriate for this ERA - we need to get back to our High Lives!
Hello Susie,

Thanks for your love, support and for being an amazing fan! ❤️

One of the most respected musicians ever. Jimi Hendrix was so in awe of him he got him to record some of Electric Ladyland with him.
Pure magic!!!! What a song and the lyrics are so special. Been listening to this song for decades now. Thanks Steve
Just an incredible musician and songwriter.
This is the one song I want played at my memorial service. Which tells you how highly I regard Steve Winwood and this song!

The best songs are so beautifully simple.
Hey Steve I love you! Traffic! Especially low spark! I'm a man! You did it all! With Grace and conviction! And love!
I think Steve winwood would have got along really good with George Harrison¡!! Pure in heart! Both!
Right !
Love them both! I was always watching George
@@philharrisson7738 g.h. sucks

In the original recording, I always liked to hear James Taylor sing his single line 'high life' toward the end.
JayJoJonny Who wouldn’t 👍👍
Here are Steve and James Taylor doing the song together years ago:

+George Andrews Lucky you!
123xconnieb
Very lucky
Seem Steve many times in various configurations since 1968
Always the best
Lucky, I seen him recently and he did not perform back in the highlife. kind of disappointing.
Have seen him since 1968 at the Fillmore East late show. Still see him locally in NY area. Most talented musician of my era.
Seems like it a good idea to give the year of performance. Methinks 2005. Steve is the best.
Bravo, Mr. Winwood!!! Cheers!!!
Dude has some young genes in him Holy shit!
another multi-talent on the organ: Randel Bramblett , years before playing sax in the Traffic Woodstock Tour, a great and humble musician and songwriter
Absolutely! Randall is just as talented - at songwriting and performing - as Stevie.
@@sambateman8097 That seems .......with all the sympathy a bit exaggerated .....ask Randall !
steve’s great voice!
Hand Steve an instrument he’s never played before…3 days later he’s like “hold my beer”
Wonderfull!!! Bellisima canción extraída del talento de uno de los mas grandes maestros y compositores de la música de todos los tiempos. Dankeschön Herr Winwood!
Tears of joy and sadness yet GREATFUL 😢 💔 FLINT MI. THANKS YOU STEVE AND ALL MUSICE
I love this song very much personally. Long time has passed since I first heard this song.
How many has this saved from suicide? Very uplifting even if only sad. Thank you to the Universe for inspiring Steve to do this song.
Always an inspirational song
LMAO! Ridiculously arbitrary analysis.
Who could not like this? He played every instrument on the studio album this was included on. Do the down voters have more talent than that? If so, okay you have the Mojo, otherwise STFU
Wow! Not bad even after all the years!
How did so many people not know what song this was until he started singing? The crowd in this clip is not good.
Many clapped when he started the mandolin chords, so I think they did.
winwood shines!
Real Music 🎵☺😍👌
When Steve wrote this, he channeled it from the most high.
I remember when this album came out. I had it on casette tape and I played it so many times one summer that I wore it out. For those millenials reading this... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassette_tape

Hello Marianne,
How’re you doing?
Thanks for your love, support and for being an amazing fan! ❤️
It's nice meeting you here
What a great artist. He is so talented. He does it all.
This is indeed a, "Blue Eyed Soul Brother"! You get my drift. Truly, a gifted man that has shared his musical genius with us for many years. Well done Steve.
Love it!!
Back in the high Life! Again!
Back in the rehab again.
WTF you have not joined with Bruce Hornsby, your tunes are so close as to be twins from different Mother's....IMHO....#Brucehornsby
He's got "THAT THING"!!
He still sounds great right on
... is that Walfredo Reyes Jr on drums???
yes it is!
Joe Archuleta I took a class from him at a drum camp about 15 years ago. One of the nicest dudes you'll ever meet, if you ever get the chance.
silverdrumvideo / Reyes Jr. and his Mapex kit!
P Diddy Boat Dance
Randall Bramblett is like having an infielder/outfielder who can hit .290 with some pop.
Nobody in this crowd is moving. It's like a mass psychosis of some kind. What the hell is going on? Have none of you ever experienced what he's singing about? Dullards
Linda❤ voz maravilhosa...parece que esta cantando pra mim...🎉
Where did all this music go? I think weve payed our penance many times over.
Timeless Classic Never Stopped Listening to Anything He Put out ❤ 😍 💖 🎶 🎵
When I feel like shit, I pop this masterpiece on. I still feel like shit after, but I don’t for the duration of this jam.
wow all i can say is wow, wish i was there
Just love it!!
Me hace tan feliz escuchar como hace música
very nice.
You really miss JR doing that incredible drum part
on the CD version
+Micky B : Yep, I'd agree with you there. It's only based on two stroke rolls, but it's an integral part of the track. Sign of a great musician, sticks out like a sore thumb when it's NOT there. The genius of it is, who else would have thought of playing it that way?
+shag e yeah I need those sweet rolls lol
Jr admits to doing multiple overdubs. This is live with no electronics. Enjoy for what it is.... beautiful.
I believe that’s Randall Bramlett on keys.😊
This song helped me forget dad’s exe girlfriend and the mean things she did Roxana Beder
That sweet sweet Mandolin, awesome song.
This is such a beautiful song, by such an accomplished artist. However, the bass player was hitting a wrong note in the chorus. Grates on the ears. Still one of the greatest popular songs of all time.
No bass player. On the Hammond Organ!
Beautiful 😎👌🏻👍🏻
your fans love you thank you rock on for ever
Always amazing!
Love the mandolin here...
His voice in this song remember Phill Collings
wish his mic was turned up more. All I can hear is the mandolin.
I agree, but I also love the mandolin. So, the song is still enjoyable for me.
Was the bass player out with the flu?
"Go Steve Go," "Rock On son"
I love this so, so empowering
