    James Taylor singing backup!
The story behind the mandolin, according to one biography about Steve...
He and his first wife divorced. He got the house, which he had purchased before they married. She got the contents of the house.
When Steve returned to the house after his ex had left, the only things left in the house were a table, and a mandolin.
He turned a heavy blow into a song of hope and looking forward, not backwards.
    Well done, Steve.
It's time you guys plunged into Traffic, the second band Steve was in. Some deep cuts - 40,000 Headmen, Every Mother's Son, Freedom Rider, Walking In The Wind.

"While You See a Chance" is the one. That song inspired me to play keyboards. It's magical.

Grammy Award winning Steve Winwood is one of my favorite artists. This is my favorite song from his solo career. This video was shot in the town that I call home; Manassas, VA. The train station welcomes several Amtrak and commuter trains every day, the downtown has nice shops and restaurants and the building Steve is walking in front of is now an arts center. I don't know why Manassas was chosen for the video location, but I am glad it was.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. I love myself some Steve Winwood. I feel he can be underrated and slightly overlooked at times, but he truly contributed so much to music at that time. There's nothing like the 80's. I'm so glad I grew up in this decade. I'm soon to be 50 and I still choose this decade over all the others. I'm not taking away from other decades. They all had great music but the 80's speak to my heart even until today.

My favorite is "The Vacant Chair" that was on the same album as "Valerie." Very beautiful, soulful sound. ❤

I'm thankful you are helping to revive all these good tunes. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but we had great music, great hash and beautiful hippie girls...

This whole album was great. I played it constantly when it came out. I think it was probably his top selling album. I would recommend checking out "Can't Find My Way Home", the version he put up on his channel a few years ago, solo acoustic, fantastic version.

It's such an understated, yet totally catchy melody. The chorus gives me joy. The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys is one of my favourite Steve Winwood tracks (in the group Traffic)

Next Steve Winwood: Gimme Some Lovin!! He did it as part of the Spencer Davis Group, which he joined when he was 14! He'd been playing professionally with his dad & brother in pubs etc since he was 8 and backing up touring American Blues musicians in the UK since he was a teen. Gimme Some Lovin is one of the most famous rock/pop songs ever and very upbeat..you'll love it.

One of my faves from Steve. So soothing and uplifting at the same time. He does that really well with just his voice, never mind the lyrics themselves.

Check out his early music. "Gimme Some Lovin", The Spencer Davis Group, 1967. He was in high school when he wrote and performed this classic.

Don't forget, you've also heard Steve Winwood on Traffic's Dear Mr Fantasy & Blind Faith's Can't Find My Way Home. If you listen to Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Chile (different from the rocking out style of Voodoo Child, this is more bluesy) you'll hear him on organ! Jimi sought him out to play with him and they worked together on that version of the song. JImi wanted to be in a band with Steve, he respected him so much.

Try "Can't Find My Way Home" my favorite by Steve. He did it first with Blind Faith but later released a solo with just an acoustic guitar. 🥴🤔👍

I got to see Winwood & Petty together in the summer of 2014. They both dazzled. They still had it! Sadly, Petty was gone a couple of years later, which made the memory of that evening even more special to me.

Steve Winwood is an amazing artist he started off as the singer and playing piano with The Spencer Davis Band then went on to form the band Traffic playing piano, guitar and lead vocalist then went to his solo career in the 80's and just exploded. He is the true Goat!!!

Here's a little tidbit: the harmony vocal was done by James Taylor, a legend in his own right.
