Steve Winwood is a legendary rocker from the late 60s early 70s who founded the group Traffic. His first gig was short lived as a part of the legendary supergroup BLIND FAITH, and then THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP, after which he founded TRAFFIC. Following was his solo careerwhere he charted often. One of the great voices of the rock era.
@@markmurphy558 I saw a doc on him, he was really young when he was doing studio work. Amazing talent who doesn't get recognized enough. Proto prog(traffic), proto metal(Blind Faith with the Cream guys) and early adoption of the 80s sound on his early solo work.
That voice !!!!....Steve winwood joined the Spencer Davis group when he was 14 as singer and keyboard player ...checkout "gimmie some lovin" ....also formed bands traffic and blind faith Also check out higher love , with chaka khan on backing vocals
So much to appreciate from the very talented Steve Winwood! In his teens in the 1960s please check out Steve with the Spencer Davis Group doing Gimme Some Lovin' and I'm a Man. When he was with the band Traffic, they created a masterpiece with Low Spark of High Heeled Boys. His collaboration with singer Chaka Kahn as part of his solo career on the song Higher Love is great. As is a live performance with Eric Clapton on the iconic tune Can't Find My Way Home. I absolutely love both the song and video for another of his solo tunes, Roll With It. I've emailed it to people hoping it would comfort and help keep them hanging on more than a few occasions. Enjoy!!!
that voice and composition! SUPERB!........ he also worked with Clapton in an amazing group called "Blind Faith" and collaborate with everybody like Robert Plant, Phil Collins, etc etc etc!
He was the voice of the Spencer Davis group in the 60's as a teen, then went aN early 70's band named Traffic that was hugely popular, then went to a short lived but very popular band, an early Supergroup called Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. He went on to having a huge solo career, especially in the 80's. Chaka Kahn did backing vocals on his hit song Higher love.
The video is pure '80's. The voice is fantastic, and has been since Steve Winwood was a teenager and the lead singer in The Spencer Davis Group. He was also great in Blind Faith with Eric Clapton, and in the band Traffic. Great vocalist and keyboard player.
Steve Winwood was a child prodigy. He started his career in the early 60’s! He is a extremely talented musician/ songwriter and performer both in a group and solo. He has written many songs and played with the best and he is one of them!
the Valerie , CALL ON ME section has been sampled in a DJ remix called CALL ON ME by Eric Prydze, its a dance hall classic and this might be where you heard it
Fun fact, the released version of Call on Me does not use a vocal sample from the original recording of Valerie, Steve Winwood was impressed by Eric Prydz's work and re-recorded the vocal again in 2004 to be used in Call on Me.
He also played on the induction of George Harrison into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame together with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Prince with their performance of When my Guitar Gently Weeps. Worth a watch
Great reaction Andre, Dominika! The 80's is my 'happy place' too (born in '78, so I am a child of the 80's through and through!) I had a cousin named Valerie (RIP), so I always think of her whenever I hear this song! Steve Winwood's voice is permanently etched into my brain - such a generational talent. Love all his stuff, no matter solo, with Traffic, Spencer Davis, etc.. Cheers!
This was an 'open letter' written for singer Valerie Carter. She was dealing with all sorts of demons and Steve was offering his shoulder for strength. Her music catalog is pretty deep in it's own right. Check out her cover of Ooh Child.
"Call On Me", by Eric Prydz, used the sampler of this song in 2004. It became a hit since then, one of the best songs of the 2000s and the dance music genre. I LOVE IT.
It's interesting that you talk about nostalgia because this song makes me feel this so much- it reminds me of my first teenage love in 1987 and somehow when I listen to past music, it does feel more tinged with romance.
You may know the voice because he’s been in many well known bands “Spencer Davis group”, “Blind Faith” and “Traffic”. A child prodigy, I think he was 15 or 16 years old when he broke onto the music scene in the mid-60’s. Rare talent
🇬🇧 Steve joined his first group in the 60s aged 14, The Spencer Davis Group. They had a hit with "Gimme Some Lovin". Maybe you could react to that, cos i fell you would know it. Its what our friends in The US call "A Banger!) And it is. ❤🎼🎶
Now this is how the really talented people evolved through the disco era. Stevie Winwood started out as a teenager in the mid 60s with the Spencer Davis Group. He was a prodigy if there ever was one, immensely talented as a musician and he had that voice. His sound matured through his years with Traffic and then Blind Faith, and then in the 70s he started putting out solo albums. Disco ruined some really great people and bands, at least for a while. From the Bee Gees to Elton John the quality of the music and lyrics really suffered. But if songs like this are an indication of Stevie Winwood in the disco era, he adapted to it better than almost everyone.
Most music took a turn for the worce during the mid 90's 😥, this is a song from 1972 Seals and Croft "Summer Breeze" summer in the U.S.A is right around the corner 😊
If there is anything I wish back the most it's 80s pop and love songs. Well, to be honest, any 80s genre, really. For me everything afterwards was a huge step backwards in creativity.
Stevie Winwood's first hit, as a teenager, with the Spencer Davis Group. If this song was played at a teen dance, it got everybody up and on the dance floor. ruclips.net/video/BuQ3PaFyb9A/видео.html
Steve is a genius and a treasure! So many great songs. He played all of the instruments on this album. This is probably his weakest song. You both would love “Roll With it” by Steve
Stevie Winwood is a great musician, a legend, and had great commercial success with this song and the accompanying album. Horrible 80s drums and an MTV (started in 1981) cliched video, for whose nonsense large budgets were used at the time. Music for washing up..., in two ways. There are Traffic and SW songs worth listening to.
As you can see he is multi talented. Plays drums, keyboard, guitar and sings - Looks good dressed up as Valerie too. Music company wanted a real woman to play Valerie but being multi talented and also a penny pincher Steve did that too and more wages for him. Save a job for someone else, Steve!

Spencer Davis was first, before that he did studio work
@@johnnorman7180 Thank You. You're right.

Thanks Mr. Obvious. There's this thing available at everyone's fingertips these days called Wikipedia if they want to follow up on this.
While you see a chance, take it is an absolute banger
🇬🇧 Stevie Winwood, what a guy, what a career!! ❤🎼🎶

You both hit it on the head in what you both said here. Thanks! I agree with you both. God bless you both!

Another musician who had so much talent. I know we took it for granted, so many original and creative bands in an age of great British music.
Arc of a Diver and Freedom Overkill are two of the best all time Albums from Steve
Música maravilhosa ❤🇧🇷

HIgher Love featuring Chaka Khan on backing vocals is a GRAMMY AWARD WINNING MASTERPIECE
Stevie Winwood is a tremendous talent…
Try Empty Pages,Roll with it,Gimme some lovin for starters..
Thanks

The wind in her Arms is refering to Needles injecting Heroin.
Steve Winwood, I just love his music: Check out "Higher Love" and "Back In the High Life."
Steve Winwood’s ‘Reach for the Light’ from the film ‘Balto’ soundtrack is inspirational!
Steve Winwood Arc of a diver,You wont be disappointed.
"Call On Me", by Eric Prydz, used the sampler of this song in 2004. It became a hit since then, one of the best songs of the 2000s and the dance music genre. I LOVE IT.
Love it! Thanks for reaction.

Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys, as well as most of Traffic is my favorites, but pretty much everything he did is great.
You may know the voice because he’s been in many well known bands “Spencer Davis group”, “Blind Faith” and “Traffic”. A child prodigy, I think he was 15 or 16 years old when he broke onto the music scene in the mid-60’s. Rare talent
Steve Winwood is one of my favorites... I think you might enjoy "Night Train," and "Roll With It." Love your reactions!
You would love his "Back in the High Life Again." And no, it's not about drugs . It's like a homecoming of sorts.
Steve Winwood is an all time great and was in the Spencer Davis Group; Traffic; Blind Faith and as a solo artist. Traffic was the best of his groups.
Listen to The Finer Things and Higher Love and While You See A Chance by him.
As per other comments "Higher Love"!
Check out Steve's album Arc of a Diver his seminal album. Really worthwhile.

It was such an upbeat tune, but he is singing about his friend with a drug problem (the wind in her arms)
Great reaction! Try roll with it next . You will love it !😊😊❤
Most music took a turn for the worce during the mid 90's 😥, this is a song from 1972 Seals and Croft "Summer Breeze" summer in the U.S.A is right around the corner 😊
Hey, stop going on and on about the year, and get to the Song, Sheesh.

Early MTV era. Videos crafted for eye candy.
try clapton/windwood cant find my way home live
👍🏼💥💥
There was a very famous remix of this hook, probably that's what you've heard. It's Eric Pryzd - call on me
More ‘70s Elton please!
Stevie Winwood's first hit, as a teenager, with the Spencer Davis Group. If this song was played at a teen dance, it got everybody up and on the dance floor.

Reaccionen a "Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota - Etiqueta Negra" no se van a arrepentir!!!✌ Saludos!!!
Probably not the best place to start with such a remarkable musician
I agree
Steve is a genius and a treasure! So many great songs. He played all of the instruments on this album. This is probably his weakest song. You both would love “Roll With it” by Steve
Adam Levine Maroon 5 has a similar voice in those high notes
Try some Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee it's a different way to go

Steve Linwood is a great one. This is more generic when MTV came around. .
The original mix is better.
