This song was released in 1986, freshman year of HS. Here i am almost 40 years later in 2024 enjoying this song with my wife of almost 29 years, back in the high life again.
Lost my job and family because of my stupidity. 5 years later found a better job kicked the bad habits and IM BACK IN THE HIGH LIFE AGAIN MY BROTHER!
yo
Luv U ❤ congrats!
What is destined for you, will never pass you by.
Have a good life my brother
Hell yeah. Congrats turning things around.
I am laying in a hospital bed. Just had successful procedure, thought to myself I need Winwood. I will be back in the high life again!
Thank you for asking. I am enjoying a highball with my wife. So in a way I am back in the "high life" again. Btw we saw you with Blind Faith. Your music has always put in me in a sunny frame of mind. I've "found my way home". Thank you for the music of my life.
penis enlargement?
I hope that you had a completely successful recovery and are living life the way you want to!
Brilliant
What procedure?
Magic, magic, magic ❤
The grocery store brought me here. If they hadn't played it on the overhead speakers for everyone who is shopping , I would have not thought of it. Now, after hearing it again I am so glad I remember it again. It was always one of my favorites back in the 80s.
Yes back in the high life again. I love you Steve💖❤️🔥🌠🧚🏼♂️
The hatred needs to stop 🛑
Love to anyone reading this ❤️
We will overcome.
@@davidmarkspeer7730 we sure will my friend 💕
Love you too!
❤
Yes! I grew up on a military base in Germany. And when I went to college in the states It was a shock at all the negativity and hatred.. I feel like I'm alone sometimes in this world. It's so easy to just be nice and loving. I'll never understand it
one of the best songs of the 80s!!!
One of those…
Classics! Timeless and Eternally Relevant!
Couldn't help but to sing along with it...again.
Love how the comment section is so positive under Steve Winwood songs.
I came here looking for Always Sunny quotes. :(
When I was unemployed and poor but this song healed me and I'm safe to say "I'm back in the high life again ".....I'm working, have a car and a house
Everyone who is unemployed is poor!!! Unless good at bank robberies. 🏦 happy for you mate you can wire me that 20 you owe me. 😉
my man
When I was young and poor, this song always made me sure I would make it and I did.80s optimism at it's best
Big ups to you, brother! Keep grinding!
Keep plugging away. Never give up and hope is always a positive. You might not get wealthy but a healthy attitude and outlook makes us rich!
I bought this cassette when it was first released way back in the day. This track and Higher Love have been favorites throughout my life. Both giving me reassurance, and comfort. They were both a sort of anthem to help me push forward. Thank you deeply for your gorgeous music!
50 year old black man that grew up in the inner city of Memphis Tn. This music allowed me to escape. Yep, it sure did👍🏽
I know you don't know me, but please trust me and believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ is the truth. Have faith and God bless.
lotta good music in Memphis....
@@JH-ot5mn Nothing, it’s how I wanted to describe myself. Let’s just enjoy the music.
@@TheFreddieW As a mountain biker and customer of Kroger, sounds good.

pulled me from the edge today. thank you mr winwood, and thank God!
Stevie Winwood and James Taylor! What a duet!
If you are ever feeling down and out this song will pull you out of it and help you move forward. Thank you Steve Winwood!
😀
My father recently passed (January of 24’) and I lost my mom in 2022.
The grief has been kicking my butt lately. Just wanting to go back in time, then I stumble across this song. I was overwhelmed. This song speaks to me in so many ways!
🤗
chin up and move on....life sucks then its amazing again....its all of our lots
Thanks for sharing this brother. I just lost my Mom in December 2023 and my Dad March 2024. It’s been so hard but it’s great to hear an uplifting song to help us with feelings of grief.
God bless you brother! Have a wonderful life! ❤❤
@@user-cf2hp2ci2n it’s almost as Steve speaks to our soul in this song. Sorry about your losses as well. Death of a parent is the most surreal feeling ever. We are not alone in this.
Steve Winwood created it. Warren Zevon mastered it.
Saw him live with Steely Dan. Amazing show.
My grandmother died on June 3rd, 1988. The last thing she ever said to me was, "Goodnight, granddaughter. When you get home, play our song."
This was our song.
@markrodgers9682 This was mine & my grandmother's song as well. Big hugs to you my friend
Sweet sorry for your loss
Possibly the most underrated musician of all time. And such a soulful voice.
Totally agree 👍
I found out the other day that he is in the rock and roll of fame best singers list at number 33.
You made my day. :-)
Totally
Any lover of rock and roll recognizes the greatness of Steve Winwood as a singer, musician, both keyboards and guitar, and excellent songwriter. He is hardly underrated by those who have ears to hear.
dudes amazing...been with him since the 6os and he's still a part of my soul and heart to this day at 66!
Praying for a Tinnitus cure so that those of us who are being tortured by this soul destroying condition can be Back in the High Life Again.
I feel ya brother❤
I know exactly what you mean man. It can be deafening and no escape at times. Blessed Be!!
Lipoflavinoid? B vitamins?
My dad just passed away yesterday, we used to listen to this song when I was a kid. I wanted to hear it again. It reminds me of the 80s. When my dad was young a vibrant! Memory lane.
Danielle I always listen to this when I want to reminisce to my dad who passed away 3 years ago. Same reason to remember them young and vibrant. Hope you're doing OK, it definitely takes some time but gets easier. But keep his memory alive
What a beautiful tribute to your Dad. Just what little you’ve written here lets me know that he had a pure heart ... and he raised a daughter who values valuable things ... Peace to you. I hope, in time, you find healing & comfort, and that your best memories of your Dad will bless you all the days of your life 🌈
Sorry for your loss Danniele,if you Dad liked this song,4 sure he was a good man.... and the most important thing,he left to you the gift of perception of what good things really are.
My condolences on your loss, Danielle. This song is a nice way to memorialize him, though.
Sorry for your loss.
Minutes ago I just bought myself a ticket to my very first Steve Winwood concert for my 52nd birthday treat! It will be the absolute BEST day of 2024, and I might cry. Reflecting back to my teen self, holding my Steve Winwood cassette tape that had just arrived in our family mailbox from my Columbia House music subscription, I never would have predicted in my lifetime that I will see him perform live in an arena. I encourage everyone reading to go buy tickets to Steve Winwood in an effort to show Steve how truly valued he is as an impactful and phenomenal artist from our beloved 80's. His shows need to reach Sold Out status! 20 concerts: July 30 - August 30, 2024.
Enjoy! 🎉🎉🎉

Id like to go to one
Just saw him on Aug.25th, Credit 1 Amphitheater, Tinley Park. He was on first followed by The Doobie Brothers. My 1st time seeing both of them!! They still sound Amazing !!!!!🎉
@@beverlyduckett-edwards4001 Yaaaay!! So happy that you got to see them perform live on stage! Winwood's setlist shows 10 songs and I can't waaaaaait for this concert!!
The best British artist to come out of the 60's.
I was there when this was filmed. ❤❤❤
Been struggling with addiction and physical pain from my tours to the middle east. Steve Winwood, especially this song touches my soul. Ultimately, helping me through these dark and painful times.

Thank you Bradd Cameron for Serving Our Country USA.♥🙏
God love you. 💚 Take good care.
Winwood turned out a freight train of hits in the 80s. He doesn’t get enough praise outside of music circles.
he’s a low key fellow that shuns the limelight, it seems on purpose? Like he’s happier this way? Ya know?
If you havnt already seen it, check out Winwood and Clapton on Claptons Crossroads concert. It is amazing! You will love it if you are a fan
A song about redemption, or maybe...just coming home...
Every time I hear this I instantly think “who turned on the Christian music?” Nobody, just some good ole Steve Winwood!
Stevie brightened up my life...broken a decade addicted...crawling falling..hard stuff...in the 80s..heard the guy who did can't find my way home..but it was NEW FANTADYIC...MR WINWOOD was the light by ear..such confident joyous sounds from this guy...blessings as the songs go.
Ever notice how Steve’s songs are so positive and uplifting?
This song was written by Warren Zevon.
@@peterdexter7092 Actually, Steve and Will Jennings co-wrote it and Warren Zevon covered it.
He's going on tour with steeley dan in 2022!!!
Yep! The 80’s were so much more uplifting! 💛
That's because this wonderful music has been written in major tonality instead of minor.
Steve choose that to give us all that joy and happiness.
Happy Birthday today, Steve!
I saw Winwood Wed. nite at Madison Sq. Garden, sooo good. W/ The Doobie Brothers, great show, lots of fun!!
There is a great sense of true optimism and faith and hope in this brilliantly outstanding masterpiece from Steve Winwood ! True joy and comfort for the weary soul and spirit ! Super Positive Appeal ! A Musical Genius ! Loved by one and all ! Extremely Feel Good and Just Too Cool ! Absolutely Love This Song !
I was a successful banker and unfortunately almost lost everything because of fentynal addiction. When I got out of rehab I heard this song and it became my anthem of my life! It's what motivated me to get my life back together!
Congratulations! What an accomplishment. Fighting addiction is one of the toughest things there is.
Well done for getting over it. How do you end up taking fentanyl, and not just h tho? I know it's still bad but compared to Fent. Or do you live somewhere where all the opiates on the street are really just full of fent? Either way glad you're doing better now!
Love this tune
God bless you and good luck!
Hang in there!!! We need you!!!! Congrats!!! It just gets better!!!
In 1986 I was selling ices on the corner of 65 and broadway . Steve Winwood Ana his wife came to my cart to purchase ices . I was in heaven I told Steve that John Barleycorn was one of my favorite albums , his wife was shocked that a 19 year old kid new that album . Steve them told me that he had a new album coming out They couldn’t have been any nicer
I love his songs. That was a great era for music.
It will be a sight to see . Back in the High Life Again ...
I listened to this song on a boat one magical night. We ate some freshly-caught catfish and danced to our hearts’ content.
Were you with a troll man and a giant bird?
This song was playing as I was a 12 year old with my parents leaving the NJ shore. We stayed with my parents' best friends who were like my second parents. I loved them. As we pulled out of the driveway, I turned around and waved goodbye to him in the driveway while this played on the radio. I never saw him again. He was killed coming home from work 5 days later by a drunk truck driver. He was 38 and the father of 6. RiP.
Wow, what a sad story. Condolences.😢
Great song. Portions of this video were filmed in Manassas, Virginia, at the old train station. Also, at the Manassas battlefield.I graduated high school in Manassas ✌️
Steve is 62 in this beaitifully choriographed video.

on our way to see him and can’t wait- LEGEND! musicians these days don’t have what the old school did….
ALWAYS take the high road
Steve Winwood will be Back In The High Life Again.
When you are old enough, the musical nostalgia and memories are just too much to say in words.
Wiith you there me ob
Yeah, especially with whats happening now in the world the nostalgia hurts.
This music is my childhood and I'm at least grateful to have experienced it as it unfolded.
Keep your head up, we'll all be "back in the high life again" soon when we go home.

RIP 🕊️Uncle Billy🕊️. This song reminds me of you
A musical icon😊
As a 44 year old black man living in Meridian, Mississippi, oddly it was the music of artist like Steve Winwood, that gave me solace, and clarity to survive the violence, the Insanity, the chaos.
I have a good life now, thank you for being the light to the path for this little brown boy Steve.
Well done you, we each have suffering but we will get back in that high life again, ive had 3 deaths in the past 5 years and it's hard yeah, but each day at a time is the only way to go, I used to sing this and mean it to my Ashley rip, but now blessed with our grandson, time to start living again,, bless you all xx
I'm glad you made it bud. 🙏
What about native son, Steve Forbert?
Isn't that Roll With It video awesome?! Love the line dancing never mind his music & voice
I'm 49 myself up in the Boston area. I remember when the music was new and I've remembered over the years. Kind of a similar situation so he's kept me grounded it's always been chill uplifting
Steve’s music has changed all the “genre” of music… from inner city, to Rural, to the “High Life”. God bless you Steve WinWood, for changing peoples lives, and bringing back Memories”.
I am going through it too. I know I'm not alone. Life. We have to go through it and not around it ❤
Peace and love to everyone!

The MAN!
The video was made in Manassas, Virginia at the train station, old town, and Lake Manassas. When Steve plays at the Jiffy Lube Live venue in Bristow, VA on 8/4/24, he will be about 8 miles west of where the video was made.
I’ve never heard of Steve Winwood before but I just heard this really nice melodic song while watching the documentary Brats on Netflix, and glad I’ve found the song!
I lost my wife of 43 years three years ago. She also loved this song!
Genesis 2:1 "On the 9th day God created Steve Winwood and placed him in the Garden in England and God commanded Steve to sing"
And it's near the end and I just thank God for time but I'm wasted and I can't find my way home.
What a great song when you're emerging from rough times.
This is happiest, and most hopeful song I've ever heard in my 65 years. It's also beautiful and I liked the dancing too. OMG I'm in tears. Thanks Steve.
I agree, but Warren Zevon's version of this very same song is just bleak. And I couldn't say which is my favorite.
"You used to be the best to make life be life to me and I hope that you're still out there and you're like you used to be" Great lyrics.
i agree. it tops my “favorite all-time lyrics” list
Absolutely
I read this just as he sang it
I never understood why people don't put Steve Winwood on a higher pedestal. His voice is almost like in harmony with itself. Just awesome
Because of the *implication.*
badass days in the 80s luv it so so much
Oh do I ever agree with you.
I’ve wondered the same thing bro
@Kyle O'Bryan I didn't know that but am not surprised. Jimi Hendrix has superior musical intelligence.
I have to thank Always Sunny (my FAVORITE favorite show ever!) for getting me into Winwood. I had heard Higher Love before when I was a kid, but never liked it until Always Sunny lol but this song from the boat episode, man. It makes me feel good... Lol but it makes me feel kinda sad, because even thought it's only been around 12 years ago since, it brings back some of those memories... I was only 20 years old now 32. Time goes by soooo fkn quick! 😢
7 grammys ,that magical nite!❤❤❤
My husband and I have almost 6 years clean from a crazy heroin addiction. This song explains what it felt like back then. Beautifully written. Steve Winwood is a genius 👏🏼
Yeah buddies! You're inspirational!
I'm glad man and I hope everything works out. My brother just died of an overdose and I don't know what the f*** to do. But I pray that your husband wins man because these drugs are a bunch of f****** b*******. I'm rooting for you guys man pray everyday and live a life worth living. And don't fight or argue or be mean or say things that you don't mean. Because you never know when that last day is of him or you. Learn to let down your pride and humble yourself and just love with all your heart and love him and understand and love him for who he is. Whatever shortcomings they have or flaws they have are just part of who they are and love those two.
Awesome job on your sobriety ❤

Really, I didn't know that as it certainly adds another dimension to listening to this song. Thanks.
Really Christian that's why stars 🌟 🤩 ✨️ 🙄 are all he is. Christians don't gain the world - the world hates them. Wolves in sheep's clothing
He leadeth me.

Touches me so deeply. I had a stroke about 2 years ago and I'm still improving, but I have never and will never stop trying to become normal again. This song is for me at the moment.
I’m a Black man and love this song!!!! Steve is phenomenal!!
Sounds great!!!
Your color madders not.
good music is universal
100% echo previous comments. music has no colour. What’s good is just good. Enjoy what you like.
What does the color of your skin have to do with ANYTHING??!! See that's the problem now, kids being taught that they can't listen to certain music because of their skin color GTFOH music is made for EVERYONE and when it's not, there is zero success.. don't be THAT GUY that brings race into something where it has no place being!! 🚫🧍🏼🧍🏿🤝🏼🤦🏻

When I was at my lowest point, I would hear this song and knew that I could and would survive.
That's pretty much all I'm reading on this video this song should have a billion views
Keep striving for the high life. I’ll see you there.
James Taylor as backup too, what amazing talents 🥰🥰🥰💯
This song is always a motivation when I fall on hard times. A reminder that bad things will pass and I'll get back in the high life again. Especially when it comes to relationships #IKnowYourEnergy
Mr. Steve... ❤❤❤❤ to comments. Realize he was a 12 yr old savant.. Naturally gifted. Today is all done w a.i. synthetics. He plays piano, guitar, anything u put in his hands. YES. I RANK HIM . This song is fantastic and the music video is fun to watch. My favorite parts are the dancing scenes and the scene of them sitting by the lake near the end. And the fact that Steve and Eugenia are still married just makes this song and video even better. She was, and is, his high life. 😊
Steve Winwood's voice is amazing on this uplifting song. James Taylor singing background harmonies is like butter! Classic.
like buttah.
I thought I heard JT in the background! Thanks for clarifying that
Wow, I never knew it was JT in the background.
I always thought the background was real smooth on this song but I didn’t know this.
@Wendy Lee Connelly he gives one line near the end that's much more notably JT - "back in the high life"
There are so many positive things being said in this comments section. So many heartwarming and real stories. Only Steve Winwood could harness this amount of wholesomeness on RUclips.
I used this song for my brother who died from cancer....he was so special, unique, handsome, kind, funny, and always there for me. This was the most fitting song for me to play for him at his memorial..he will ALWAYS be in the high life...he was such a kind gentleman...what a treasure...i miss him
The 80s was on a whole other level...
James Taylor on backing vocals really makes this track. Beautiful vocals, all around.

I always thought he was singing, “To be back in The Hall of The Dead,” and the song was about a man leaving all the turmoil in this physical realm to join the eternal beings in peace, who dwell in the afterlife in The Hall of The Dead.
Dusting off my Duster, and retiring to the high life… once again.
I'm a musician and have been since I was 11. A few years into playing the guitar, my dad sat me down in the living room, and put this (on cassette) into the home stereo and cranked it up. He walked me through every little nuance and detail of the instrument parts and how they were all contributing to the song in such a profound way. It was perhaps the most valuable lesson in the value of song arrangement I ever got. He died in 2014 at 70 years old. This song has been a go-to for me ever since.
My blessings to your father. What a great Dad to pass down talent like that to you.I just don't have that gene I guess,i've been around big bands and backyard bands all my life I just have not been able to get it.This Steve Winwood is so awesome I have been listening to him a lot lately,I actually bought a concert poster on e bay just last night from a Portland show.Best to ya Geoff
Such a gift your father gave you to teach you how the nuance of an arrangement contributes to the whole. What a life blessing.

Right on man I have songs that do the same thing...take me back to that time or that exact date n time n I can remember every detail in the memory. How the weather was the smell of the space or how the light came in thru the blinds n how I was feeling at that time.

Thank you. I thought I heard James Taylor but wasn't sure.
@TomDinapoli. You may already know this. Back in the last century, I read somewhere that James Taylor did his harmony vocal on this track in two takes. These guys are musicians' musicians! Stay safe and well.
