@@RyanMontgomery-b4y it’s almost as Steve speaks to our soul in this song. Sorry about your losses as well. Death of a parent is the most surreal feeling ever. We are not alone in this.
Takes me back to my high school years in inner city Detroit during the mid 80’s. This was one of many songs along Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow, Robert Plant’s Dream Weaver and Bill Withers’ Lovely Day that got me through very dark times living in a drug addicted household. These and a dozen or so other songs kept my hope alive and focused on the day when I would grade high school and escape that nightmare. Though my upbringing obliterated my desires to become a parent myself one day, I went on serve a success tour in Air Force during the Desert Storm years, followed by a productive and fun 8yr career with the Postal Service while pursuing a double major in history and computer science. That eventually led to a very successful and financially rewarding IT career in corporate America. Throughout that journey I’ve lived a fun life with some great friendships and romances. As I now stare down a somewhat early retirement thanks to my IT career, I think back to where this journey began and how music carried me emotional and psychology to where my dreams would await my physical arrival. Music and the talented artists that channel this divine medium are invaluable to the human soul in ways that few words can capture.
My husband and I have almost 6 years clean from a crazy heroin addiction. This song explains what it felt like back then. Beautifully written. Steve Winwood is a genius 👏🏼
I'm glad man and I hope everything works out. My brother just died of an overdose and I don't know what the f*** to do. But I pray that your husband wins man because these drugs are a bunch of f****** b*******. I'm rooting for you guys man pray everyday and live a life worth living. And don't fight or argue or be mean or say things that you don't mean. Because you never know when that last day is of him or you. Learn to let down your pride and humble yourself and just love with all your heart and love him and understand and love him for who he is. Whatever shortcomings they have or flaws they have are just part of who they are and love those two.
Man, one of the funniest comments ever I mean, freaking brilliant Really Not kidding here Nope Really really creative and funny It's gold, Jerry. Gold!

Hey Kim Hill I'm Kim Hill and I lived in Northridge too but I'll be 70 this November and you don't look nothing like me yes and God bless the old days and let's pray to God we don't lose anymore and you're very beautiful
This song for me is symbolic of reincarnation and I am going to have this played at my funeral when the time comes. It is already on my Wake Music List.
I'm a musician and have been since I was 11. A few years into playing the guitar, my dad sat me down in the living room, and put this (on cassette) into the home stereo and cranked it up. He walked me through every little nuance and detail of the instrument parts and how they were all contributing to the song in such a profound way. It was perhaps the most valuable lesson in the value of song arrangement I ever got. He died in 2014 at 70 years old. This song has been a go-to for me ever since.
My blessings to your father. What a great Dad to pass down talent like that to you.I just don't have that gene I guess,i've been around big bands and backyard bands all my life I just have not been able to get it.This Steve Winwood is so awesome I have been listening to him a lot lately,I actually bought a concert poster on e bay just last night from a Portland show.Best to ya Geoff
Right on man I have songs that do the same thing...take me back to that time or that exact date n time n I can remember every detail in the memory. How the weather was the smell of the space or how the light came in thru the blinds n how I was feeling at that time.
First off, I wanna dedicate this song to my new found financial freedom, therefore I just paid off my house in full earlier this year at the age of 40 years old, and as an extra added bonus is that I just received a 6 figure inheritance last month in late June too. And I'm now rejoicing by way of laughing & crying sweet tears of joy 😂. So it looks just like I done made it to be in the high life after all, for the very first time in my entire life. All is right in my life. Thank you Jesus, for my prayers have been answered.
I was born in Plainfield, New Jersey in 1979. All the 80's, 90's, and 2000's music mean so much to me. As a black man I'm not ashamed to say that I love Steve Winwood's music. I started my music fan journey in 1983 when I was listening to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" Album.
When I took out CDs from Treorchy library at 15, I didn't notice that Miles Davis, John Coltrane were black. I listened to superior music. I maintain my point 30 years later. PLUS Bach and Radiohead et al. What a gift we have in organised sound.
hey, there's no shame in loving music produced by an absolute musical genius!......I love his Traffic years the best though, Steve on piano and vocals....man! progressive rock at its finest....I wonder if you've ever listened to any of those albums?.....if nothing else I would say check out "Glad", it's still one of the baddest songs ever.
This is happiest, and most hopeful song I've ever heard in my 65 years. It's also beautiful and I liked the dancing too. OMG I'm in tears. Thanks Steve.
@TomDinapoli. You may already know this. Back in the last century, I read somewhere that James Taylor did his harmony vocal on this track in two takes. These guys are musicians' musicians! Stay safe and well.
Touches me so deeply. I had a stroke about 2 years ago and I'm still improving, but I have never and will never stop trying to become normal again. This song is for me at the moment.
I would give anything to go back and really enjoy those times, like I didn't appreciate at the time. No one told me that childhood would end. Blessings.
This song brought me thru some dark dark days.....and here I am.....trying to climb out of another dark place....Thank you, Mr Winwod...and James Taylor! ❤️❤️

My husband and I have almost 6 years clean from a crazy heroin addiction. This song explains what it felt like back then. Beautifully written. Steve Winwood is a genius 👏🏼
Yeah buddies! You're inspirational!
Awesome job on your sobriety ❤
@@LonnyDewert wtf
Congrats. Sobriety is a GIFT!!!!!!
This is a Christian man. I love his music, all are positive and full of praise for our abilities to keep going. Christ is the driver here.
Really, I didn't know that as it certainly adds another dimension to listening to this song. Thanks.
Really Christian that's why stars 🌟 🤩 ✨️ 🙄 are all he is. Christians don't gain the world - the world hates them. Wolves in sheep's clothing
He leadeth me.
🤣
Hello summer 2024, we're still here!
Hell yeah😊
So happy that I can join hands with other people who think like me. ❤
awesome dude!
Stevie remember me I remember you in high school 🎒 friend/father/😊
Windows down. 55mph. Back in the high life again. The 2024 version. Wished I was on a boat because this is boat music.
"I'll be back with Miller High Life again."
Right on, it's Miller time, time to relax.
Man, one of the funniest comments ever
I mean, freaking brilliant
Really
Not kidding here
Nope
Really really creative and funny
It's gold, Jerry. Gold!
I like it!
Me too!
The campaign of beers ! Miller tall necks man does that bring back memories . Toshea on the word play .
I'm going through a really dark time right now. This song just changed my mood completely. 😁
Hope ur good man
@Eric Biondo I'm not, but, I'm trying to push through.
Thank you so much for the kind words.
Just hang on buddy. These dark times are like passing clouds. Just wither the present - you will have a peaceful and healthy future.
Stay strong, Sir. U got this. Cheers and Best wishes to you.
@bloke_19xx33 Thank you so much! That is very kind of you.
Best wishes to you as well.
Steve Winwood's voice is amazing on this uplifting song. James Taylor singing background harmonies is like butter! Classic.
like buttah.
I thought I heard JT in the background! Thanks for clarifying that
Wow, I never knew it was JT in the background.
I always thought the background was real smooth on this song but I didn’t know this.
@Wendy Lee Connelly he gives one line near the end that's much more notably JT - "back in the high life"
71 yrs old Black male with a Steve Winwood collection!
!!
It's the stuff that no wall can withstand. Speaking of the German people that hadn't seen kin in a very long time. Powerful stuff.
Steve Winwood will be Back In The High Life Again.
I’m a metal head and I even enjoy this song
@@sandykimberlin7198 God bless you as well.
Careful. You're good taste is showing.
I'm here because older music is better.
Been struggling with addiction and physical pain from my tours to the middle east. Steve Winwood, especially this song touches my soul. Ultimately, helping me through these dark and painful times.
Hope you find what you’re seeking, brother. Help is out there - fellow vets are ready to listen. www.va.gov/REACH/
Thank you Bradd Cameron for Serving Our Country USA.♥🙏
God love you. 💚 Take good care.
Quite possibly the most underrated musician of all time!! Positivity, and the nostalgia, his music's timeless and will always have the ability to take me out of myself and back to a simpler time.. I miss the old days!! God Bless everyone reading this!!! Much love !!!
❤✌🍀
❤
Yes and God bless him and God bless his voice I got to see him in the San Fernando Valley in California and I was 14 and then I moved up to Reno Nevada and I saw him up here I've seen him twice in concert he is awesome he sounds just the same alive as he does on the radio that's how long I've been listening to him and I'll be 70 this November I've been listening to him since I was 13 or 14 same with the stones and Aerosmith let's pray they all stay healthy may God watch over them
@@kimhill9859 I lived in Northridge in the 80's up until the mid 90's... Loved being a Valley girl!!!😎
Hey Kim Hill I'm Kim Hill and I lived in Northridge too but I'll be 70 this November and you don't look nothing like me yes and God bless the old days and let's pray to God we don't lose anymore and you're very beautiful
One of those…
Classics! Timeless and Eternally Relevant!
Couldn't help but to sing along with it...again.
This song for me is symbolic of reincarnation and I am going to have this played at my funeral when the time comes. It is already on my Wake Music List.
The best British artist to come out of the 60's.
"You used to be the best to make life be life to me and I hope that you're still out there and you're like you used to be" Great lyrics.
i agree. it tops my “favorite all-time lyrics” list
Absolutely
I read this just as he sang it
Living Legend.
Coming back BIG !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I listened to this song on a boat one magical night. We ate some freshly-caught catfish and danced to our hearts’ content.
Were you with a troll man and a giant bird?
ALWAYS take the high road
Such a gift your father gave you to teach you how the nuance of an arrangement contributes to the whole. What a life blessing.
Lo p
Condolences 💐 Geoffrey
Right on man I have songs that do the same thing...take me back to that time or that exact date n time n I can remember every detail in the memory. How the weather was the smell of the space or how the light came in thru the blinds n how I was feeling at that time.
This song creates such a cozy feeling in the heart of winter.☕
If I had A Time machine.....
Happy Birthday today, Steve!
Congratulations 👍
Thank you, Steve Winwood, for writing this one song in particular.
This isn't just a song,,,it's an inspiration
A song about redemption, or maybe...just coming home...
Thriller was my very first album which I received on my 8th birthday in 1982. 80’s songs were the best!!
When I took out CDs from Treorchy library at 15, I didn't notice that Miles Davis, John Coltrane were black. I listened to superior music. I maintain my point 30 years later. PLUS Bach and Radiohead et al. What a gift we have in organised sound.
Music has no colour my friend.
hey, there's no shame in loving music produced by an absolute musical genius!......I love his Traffic years the best though, Steve on piano and vocals....man! progressive rock at its finest....I wonder if you've ever listened to any of those albums?.....if nothing else I would say check out "Glad", it's still one of the baddest songs ever.
Why would anyone be ashamed to live Steve regardless of color my man?
I grew up with this artist
I lost my wife of 43 years three years ago. She also loved this song!
This is happiest, and most hopeful song I've ever heard in my 65 years. It's also beautiful and I liked the dancing too. OMG I'm in tears. Thanks Steve.
I agree, but Warren Zevon's version of this very same song is just bleak. And I couldn't say which is my favorite.
Genesis 2:1 "On the 9th day God created Steve Winwood and placed him in the Garden in England and God commanded Steve to sing"
And it's near the end and I just thank God for time but I'm wasted and I can't find my way home.
Dusting off my Duster, and retiring to the high life… once again.
LET THERE BE GOOD MUSIC AGAIN
IN JESUS' NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@fordhughes !
If you listen closely you can hear James Taylor singing backup. It’s was a comeback song for both of them.
Nice.I didn’t know that!
Two great singers.
Sounds like James Taylor at about 4:00.
Thank you. I thought I heard James Taylor but wasn't sure.
@TomDinapoli. You may already know this. Back in the last century, I read somewhere that James Taylor did his harmony vocal on this track in two takes. These guys are musicians' musicians! Stay safe and well.
stevie ray vaugh, stevie wonde3r, steve winwood, and stevie miller. now how can anyone not love them all?
What a wonderful time 😢
If you are ever feeling down and out this song will pull you out of it and help you move forward. Thank you Steve Winwood!
😀
When I was at my lowest point, I would hear this song and knew that I could and would survive.
That's pretty much all I'm reading on this video this song should have a billion views
Keep striving for the high life. I’ll see you there.
If I close my eyes I’m 17 again and I can smell my childhood home and memories
Masterpiece! Thank Mr.Steve❤
Touches me so deeply. I had a stroke about 2 years ago and I'm still improving, but I have never and will never stop trying to become normal again. This song is for me at the moment.
No matter your station in life at any given time, the perspective this song gives you will surely help. Great song.
It's been a slightly ragged last two or three months, but I still hope to be back in the high life again, some time soon. Inspiring song.
Deserves a HD remaster please thumbs up if you agree
Back In The HEI Life Again
I would give anything to go back and really enjoy those times, like I didn't appreciate at the time. No one told me that childhood would end. Blessings.
Thank you for your kind comments dear, I hope you and yours are doing great.?
How cool to get a reply from Steve Windwood. Your music is awesome!
@@josephmcduffie4248 that’s a fake profile:(. Clint Black has the same exact message saying that.
I would too. I grew up listening to him, I can’t stand the current music, all I listen to is 40’s-80’s music 😂
U me both I just turn 40 81 sure flies by fast the 80s is my generation
This song brought me thru some dark dark days.....and here I am.....trying to climb out of another dark place....Thank you, Mr Winwod...and James Taylor! ❤️❤️
Omg i was just thinking about both of these artists right before I read your post 🙏 also 2 my favorites of All time. Helped me deal with the passing of like 10 relatives in the same amount of years. Them almost lost my own. I saw the devil coming though and side stepped him 😉🙏💯🍀💪😎👍🌅🌃♥️
Your comment is a year old, I hope you made it through all of it, and are back in the high life again.
If you haven’t, keep fighting, you will get there.
Hang in there… this very same song got me through the darkest days of my life as well.
You will make it buddy keep going

To the person that reads this, I ask the Lord to bless them and their family, to cure them of every sickness and pain, to fill their emptiness with love joy and peace, to rebuke the enemy from their lives. I saw Winwood Wed. nite at Madison Sq. Garden, sooo good. W/ The Doobie Brothers, great show, lots of fun!!
This video was filmed in my hometown of Manassas, Virginia, as I was growing up there. I haven't lived there in years, but watching this video always tugs my heart and takes me back. I love that town.
I was born in northern Virginia. Been gone from there a long time. Should we dare call Manassas "Bull Run"?
I can relate to your comments I was born at home in Manassas in 1947 and lived within a few blocks of most of the areas shown in the video. Joe
Never knew that, I grew up in Arlington
Have you been back recently? I used to mess around down there in the early 00s; went through there recently and I didn't even recognize it. It has grown quite a bit.

Sing it, brother.
Steve Winwood created it. Warren Zevon mastered it.
