    The "chains" on the back look really good! On the front of my Simplicity 4041, a 1500 lb machine, for snow plowing, I deflated the front tires, added a #40 roller chain on the center of the tread and re-inflated them. Gives much better steering on the ice when pushing snow.

    Not a bad idea. I don't know what advantage there would be to front chains when most lawn tractors are only 2-wheel drive. I was surprised to see the blade because you could have probably blown the snow off with your mower deck.

    I know some guys that used their lawn tactor to plow or bought a snowblower for the front. They used chains on the rear but they had to add weight to the rear of the machine to get enough traction on ice even with the chains.

  • @bradwiebe5692
    @bradwiebe5692 Год назад +3

    you put the chains on back ward, well in forward if you put the small side of the angle iron first then the longer side going back ward its more stable cause the long side is pushed against the tire! Just my two cents worth , Im only trying to help.

    @swalowit Год назад +2

    Hey if you want even MORE traction I would suggest putting them on opposite sides, backwards of what you did.. Just my thoughts when I saw it, let me know if you try it please..
    #1- Your going to get a much better, deeper edge with the snow being able to sink into the tire tread before hitting the 90° edge opposed to the flat part of the angle iron contacting the ground first and limiting it's bite the depth of that edge minus the thickness of the gauge opposed to coming from the other direction..
    #2- If you're losing traction, tire begins to spin and then the edge catch's on something solid I think that stress would easily flex the the front edge of the angle iron off the tire tilting your 90° biting edge back on an angle causing loss of ultimate traction.. Where if it's backwards it would have the full width of that angle iron pressing against the tire acting as a brace to keep it close to 90° and prevent it from just twisting everytime it's stressed causing loss of traction.. ( If using strictly for snow on pavement or concrete this probably wouldn't apply but I think most people's comments and interests were to make a set for added traction 'off-road'..
    Comment if you agree or disagree or have tried.. that's how we learn !! 👍

    The idea seems interesting in terms of increasing traction.
    But it also increases the stress on the ball bearings of the wheels and the steering.
    If I were you, I would keep a close eye on these elements.
    While watching the video, we can clearly see that the entire tractor is subjected to the jolts produced by these chains.

    Hey bud nice craftsmanship, but I'd like to offer a word of caution from a guy who works on mowers for a living. Your chains are going to beat your transmission to death. The repeated jarring and bouncing causes the top of the transaxle case to break up and the bushings will crack as well. I've seen it first hand with craftsman poulan and husqvarna tractors and it appears your machine is made by the same ayp group. Wheel weights would help but unfortunately the extra rotating mass ends up tearing up the brass worm gear inside the transaxle. Your best bet is to fluid fill the tires and stud the tires if you have enough lug depth on them and add a small weight box. If you want any help or suggestions on doing anything of those things send me a message I'd be happy to help.

    • @randytravis3998
      @randytravis3998 Год назад

      normal tire chains are better then the item in the video ,, extra weight is a must to keep the slipping down ,, also removing the deck will help save the deck from breaking the hangers from the rough work of plowing ,, also make sure the tires are not froze in the ground ,, seen a axle break when a customer tried too drive the mower that was stuck solid in frozen ground ..

    I don’t know if you meant to make your design the way you did or if it was just trial and error, but excellent choice of paddles. I seen some videos of guys using channel iron instead of angle iron, and that was the wrong choice. They would plug up. Whereas angle iron is like self cleaning. well done.
