Progressive is total crap. My friend had her new car insured via them, 3 months later the car was rear ended and totaled, while it was parked on a city street!!! Progressive adjuster totaled the car, yet they denied the claim because the car was not being driven by her at the time of the accident, it was parked. They told her to get a lawyer and sue the other driver and their insurance company for the cost of the car and have a nice day. Then they cancelled her policy that same day!!! She ended up getting a lawyer and sued the other driver, their insurance finally paid her blue book value for an 3 month old car with only 1850 miles on it. They screwed her out of thousands, she blames Progressive and is also suing them for the difference in what was paid versus the replacement cost of another new car (same model, make, year, and even color!). This has been ongoing for two years. Your not alone!!!

This is not an insurance story but a chain body shop story. Long ago a friend of mine which happened to be my x wife had a bumper cover issue on her 75000 mile Mercury Sable. The side retainer came loose from the rear quarter panel and would flop around while driving. She went to a highly advertised large body shop that had 3 or 4 locations at the time. They estimated about between $1800 and $2000 to replace the bumper cover and paint it. There was nothing wrong with the bumper cover. Not even a scratch or chipped paint. Just the retainer that they also had 2 of in the estimate. She was told the only way to repair was to replace and paint. My dad had a friend that owned a well talked about neighborhood body shop that I took her to. They had been in business for over 50 years. Derick gave her a price of $75 to replace just the retainer. Parts and labor. It took him 10 min to repair but we left the car over night for the adhesive to fully set. It survived the next 10 years or so and it survived the agony of being my youngest Daughters first car. It went to the scrap yard with 250,000 miles on it and the rear bumper retainers in place even after a rear end collision. I am definitely not an advocate of repairing everything but all situations have to be evaluated and options presented if there are any.

I hit debris in the roadway in my Honda Civic and busted the plastic front bumper. When I found out what it was going to cost to replace bumper I laughingly said that I will just duct tape it. The body shop suggested using screws to stabilize it which worked fine. The car was in good shape but had 200,000 miles on it and liability insurance only. I recently gave it to my nephew for commuting…36 mpg as opposed to his truck at 15mpg. Ten years ago he was ribbing me about my bumper screws but he is delighted with it and plans to pass on to his daughter next year when she turns 16.

They charged the insurance company for the big repair. @ProleDaddy NO... you're guessing wrong. It's kind of insultive, actually. The topic is how insurance screws us over. I got injured on a job site, and everything was legit. The injury was notable and didn't heal, and I needed surgery. Everything was lined up for surgery but the day before I was to go into surgery, the insurance company suddenly denied the claim.(Au*o-O**ers Insurance in Utah/ Workman's comp) I had to hire a lawyer and go through all the crap to get a settlement. And then pay for my own surgery. Insurance companies have a deceptive advantage by just rejecting so many claims and letting them fall through the cracks, hoping the victims won't stand up for themselves.
Don't be such a presumptive a**hole. And by the way, my boss needed me back to work so badly and wanted me back. He complained that he paid into this insurance for 15 years for me, and this was his first claim with me. After I was healed from the injury, I went back to work for my employer for several years, completing a 37-year remodeling career.

The way the system works for insurance of any type is like for his homeowner's claim back in Texas. There was paperwork documentation to show that the tree was considered a hazard and was not properly taken care of and when it caused damage. Since he did nothing to mitigate the damage by having the tree properly trimmed or removed, they held him responsible and probably deemed him to be responsible. Having gone through this myself with car insurance, if you hit an animal or something like that, especially if it's night time and they consider it to be an act of God. It doesn't raise your insurance or if your insurance goes up with your Comp and collision insurance. It won't go up a whole lot on a monthly basis due to that claim. Maybe a maximum of 10% but in the case of this where it is a multi-vehicle accident but it is the trailer being turned into the truck that is pulling it. Yes, it was a completely avoidable accident. Yes, he will be found at fault. And yes, I can assure you that this will raise his insurance prices by a considerable amount if he files a claim. This is definitely one of those things that he should self-insure on most likely, especially considering the fact of the matter is this cannot be seen as an act of God, which if it is seen as an act of God means that it is a no-fault accident and as long as you the policy holder are not found at fault, the claim itself will not increase your insurance rates. As long as you the policy holder, the insured are not found at fault. If you, the insured or the policy holder are found at faults staying with that insurance agency, it will raise your rates if it is a preventable accident. Whoever is found at fault is the one who gets to pay for it in the end, even if it is a single vehicle accident and the vehicle operator is found at fault then that raises that vehicle operator 's insurance rates at renewal time also, if you do not have car insurance and you are involved in an accident, especially if you were the one found at fault, what could be as simple as $1,000 in damages means that it could cost you $10,000 plus dollars in court costs and fees when the person comes after you and sues you for the cost of damages to their vehicle and that is just what it would end up costing you to pay for the damages to their vehicle. If they claim something like pain and suffering that would add thousands more. If not tens of thousands more to the amount that innocent party the non-outfault party would be able to sue you for which is part of why we have to have car insurance to drive on the road to make sure that if something does happen and we are in an accent or do cause damage. Our insurance can at least pay for part of if not all of the repairs to the other person's property or vehicle which could save us from being sued for tens of thousands of dollars as a private citizen That's why we have to have car insurance and it protects people from being sued all the time there's so many car accidents with property damage involved in the US that do end up going through an insurance company that end up being easy for people to deal with and not requiring people to sue other people cuz remember just to get a lawyer to think about taking your case. They're either going to want to take a decent chunk of what you're going to be awarded or they're going to want. Probably a $5,000 fee up front just to start on your case and thousands of dollars more to complete your case and come to a settlement or win a court trial in which case you may still be liable for paying that lawyer and you may not be able to get your lawyer fees back from that case. But most likely you would be awarded some money for lawyer fees. But what turns out to be $3,000 in damage ends up being a lawsuit that costs over $30,000. If we didn't have insurance because lawyers would have to get involved and their fees and the court costs associated with it would balloon.

As for fixing the massive dent and tail light. YES IT'S REPAIRABLE W/O REPLACING THE BED SIDE. The "body shops" today won't do it because its A)a little faster/slughtly less labor to replace vs repair and B) insurance usually won't cover a repair. But if you take it to a real body shop they do have methods for pulling that dent out, may need minor paint work/blending of the paint for it to match and replace the tail light. Simple repair in the grand scheme of things. Less invasive than replacing the entire bed side.
Side story. 2000 S10 I bought new in 00. Hit a mail box and caved in the RF fender and broke the aluminum wheel when i hit the culvert. Took to a real independent body shop and back then all in for them to pull the dent, skim fill and paint and replace the wheel it was $1000. It can be done. Just gotta find the right shop willing to do it your way, not the way today's books say it should be done.

Never had any issues. If your rates do go up after 1 incident, whether you're at fault or not, it's probably due to an annual increase that has nothing to do with your incident. In SC you get insurance points based on tickets and accidents that are your fault. It raises the rates a set amount for 3 years. Don't know how GA is, will ask my sister who lives there. That said, YOU caused the damage and you deserve some penalty for that. Since it was your fault and it is somewhat minor, you should pay out of pocket or leave it like it is. In every insurance, your rates are based on your risk. If you file this, you show Progressive that you are a bigger risk. You fix that by NOT driving carelessly in a rain storm while pulling a trailer.

Yeah, I agree, insurance is a scam. But as someone who was in the auto body and paint industry, that panel can be repaired. You just need to find the right shop. Get multiple quotes. You will be surprised at how much they differ from each other. And make sure they are looking for hidden damage. You don’t want to get a low ball estimate and then get a costly surprise in the middle of the repair.

Make sure you tell people NOT to ever call their insurance when inquiring about a possible claim. They will count it even if you don’t file. Call your agent, not the company. It increases your risk assessment value which increases your insurance costs. Replacing a damaged quarter panel requires less labor than trying to work out all the dents/damage. Parts/labor are expensive. If you know someone who can do the work professionally, one can usually get it done more reasonably in cost than through a dealer or an insurance repair center. Sorry you are having to deal with this.
