I might need a new car in the future, I would like to try to hold out for another year to save more money and buy a nice used car such as a mid 2010s Toyota because of their dependable reliability. My sonata has seen better days, it’s a good car but Hyundai engines aren’t built well and I’m beginning to not trust it anymore. If I need to get a car before then, what is a good option for something cheap and dependable to use in the meantime? Just something to drive around for about a year. Just trying to keep my options open.
The most economical option is often to repair your current vehicle. Unless of course you have driven into the ground.
Not if it keeps having one thing break after another and always getting it fixed. Then it’s unreliable.
@@patricknedz Hence the driven into the ground comment...
I've bought 2 new cars in my lifetime. Since then, it's all been used, no more than 5 yrs old with low mileage. Basically still new, and didn't break my meager bank account. Bought my 2003 Lexus in 2008, still have it, looks great, runs great, nothing serious regarding repairs. The CD player broke a couple years ago, not a problem, not needed anymore, and the Air Co Compressor was replaced, also a couple years ago. I think I did well, paid half the price of the original sticker and the money I've spent since then has been minimal.
Be careful with cars with flood damage. I expect a lot of those will be hitting market soon. Especially be cautious if the car has been way outside your area. A mechanic checking everything should be able to do this as well.
@@jimcramer9656 excellent reminder as there will be many of those out there due to the recent storm events. Thank u!

preparedness factors into almost every Hams reason for getting into the hobby. cell phones require servers capable of millions of connections......in addition. to 1000s of repeaters. Complex and easily disturbed. Ham radio repeater systems are insanely simple and easy to maintain, and direct simplex commo requires no repeaters.
My 2000 Chevy Express w/200k miles and still going. It's turning into a rust bucket but with the price of new vehicles I have to keep baby sitting it and keep maintaining it habitually. (latest repair, new VCM)
I keep cars almost forever. Last two I traded in, I owned 31 and 20 years. But there are new challenges to keeping a car. Parts availability, or the parts that are of such poor quality that they fail right out of the box. I am hearing the failure rate for replacement water pumps, alternators and ac compressors is over 30% right out of the box. And finding shops that will work on cars beyond a certain age. Someone I know has a 2003 Buick LeSabre and the dealer says they don't work on cars that old! And most alarming, dealerships who don't have techs on staff with the skills to complete WARRANTY repairs. The local Hyundai dealer has that issue. My son's one year old Kona sat in the shop for over 30 days while the dealer tried to figure out how to do a recall. My son contacted Hyundai direct, and immediately bought the car back because under California lemon law, if a repair takes more than 30 days they HAVE to buy it back.

I recently bought a new Camry, cost $36k out the door. I also keep three used cars/trucks that all have 100k miles or more as extra back up vehicles. The used vehicles all needed or need fixing to keep them running. Once you start fixing old cars it gets expensive unless you can do some of the repairs yourself, then you have to decide is it worth it or not to keep paying the money to keep them. I’ll keep my used vehicles until something major fails like the engine or transmission, then I’ll send it to the junkyard. But always try to have a newer vehicle thats safe, reliable and comfortable to drive. New cars and trucks are way too expensive now and not worth the price.

New vehicles depreciate about 30 percent the second you drive them off the lot. If the new vehicle cost you $75 thousand dollars it just cost you $22,500 to drive home. You can pay for a LOT of maintenance and repairs on your older vehicle for the cost of driving a new one home.

Cellulose is simply plant fiber. It can come from sawdust, plant stems, seed husks, vegetables or fruits. It is simply the structure that holds up the plant. It is harmless, unlike many of the other ingredients in processed foods. I would eat a bowl of cellulose fiber before eating a Twinkie. Don't be complacent about the Fritos. The canola oil or corn oil (plus others) are genetically modified. Additionally, heating oil to very hot temperatures for extended periods or repeatedly turns oil into a substance that has been compared to varnish. This "varnish" cannot be broken down by the mitochondria, as it is not generally found in nature. As a result, the body stores it. In your arteries and other not great places. This is what can lead to heart blockages and the need for bi-pass operations. Buy your bread at a local bakery, where you know exactly what is going into it, and it's not filled with stuff you cannot pronounce. Or make your own. Make your own Fritos - the recipe is on YT.
Do know many other countries have much cleaner food! Ask your self why. People should of been learning to grow. Aldi has LOTS of clean food from other countries

New Car's are Engineered to be Replaced, Not Repaired by the Average Mechanic, I started seeing this about 10 yrs back then when they started putting plastic Parts inside of motors that these were Designed Defects to destroy the motor, some sooner than Others ! @@TheRayterry correct!
I agree. Today's economy shows us that we must live smarter. If your current vehicle has served you well and the repair on it is less that what you plan to spend on another used car, then I say repair it. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with about 77,000 miles on it. It runs well, but it has had some maintenance and repairs, nothing major except the air conditioner, which was a waste of money, because the leak in the a/c is up into the dashboard, and I'm not going to tear the thing apart to get to it. I only need it for local shopping, doctor and whatever. No one cares what I drive. My car is about the same color as yours! Love that color green! We must learn to spend smarter if we are going to survive. I don't have a mortgage any more on two houses, mine and a rental. No car payment, no cell phone payment, no TV cable, just a landline and computer. I have no credit card debt except for a monthly card I use that I get money back from and pay off each month. I've been in debt in the past up to my ears with four mortgages, two second mortgages, $22,000 in credit card debt, and terrible credit. None of it was for frivolous things. I wouldn't wish the stress of debt on my worst enemy. I can afford a new car now, but why do that? My car should last me a long time.
