Dominant Fijian chiefs ceded their country to Britain in the hope that it would be better than being inevitably taken by Americans, Germans or the French. Fijian chiefs knew that they were no match for the white man's weaponry. I'm not attempting to defend the British, but that is what happened, and that is why Fijians generally don't rubbish Britain.
