Those things you mentioned are two different things. There's a larger financial and safety responsibility with what you mentioned. Voicing an opinion, when statistically fraud is almost non-existent or ineffective and there are plenty of ways to verify citizenship, does not and should not require an ID not to mention it also suppresses people with I.Ds from a different state even though they are residents of the current state (like college students who tend to vote blue)

@@fallen4life080 voting is more than filling in a circle on your opinion. You’re literally voting in leaders who can change law that’s enforceable with violence. People must be lawfully here and accountable if they’re going to benefit from and help determine laws. Most people agree with this which is why democrats are walking back their positions. I agree there are a lot of ways to verify citizenship but through IDs and certificates. What are you referring to that doesn’t require IDs?

    • @fallen4life080
      @fallen4life080 2 года назад

@@Masaru-mm3em I was expecting this argument, i should've qualified my statement in order to catch it on time. My apologies.
"Voting in leaders who can change law that's enforceable with violence"
      1. That statement has some undertones of fear mongering and slight exaggerations (which I'll get to below) and
      2. leaders don't make laws, they propose laws in which we the people will vote on. That's what make modern democracies great, leadership really has limited power, it all comes back to us.
Going back to #1 we could make a stretched out argument that people require ID to buy groceries (like a can of soup) because we fear they'll just sell it on the street for less than market price and thus drive farm prices and agriculture up. So therefore buying groceries is just as dangerous for the economy as voting and buying a car or gun. Silly right? We don't and should not need ID to buy groceries just like voting. Voting is less about who's up for election than it is about simply giving a voice to We the People. This is covered in the first amendment. Voicing your opinion, regardless of who or what is up for election, should not require ID that alienates a certain part of the population that struggles to get ID (not that they can't at all). All voices need to be heard.
To answer your question, you can easily look up people by date of birth and or social security. Have you ever been pulled over for a minor traffic violation and not had your driver's license on you? Most cops can find you by your name and date of birth, they'll give you a warning for not having you license and a small speeding ticket, but the point is they don't need ID to prove you are who you say you are. When i registered to vote in Chicago they found me by my address, date of birth, and social security. All stuff i could remember from my head. When i requested a ballot they verified my info to the government database, if i was an illegal they would've found out by then.

    • @fallen4life080
      @fallen4life080 2 года назад +1

@Dillon Then you won't get to vote if it doesn't match your other forms of ID like your social or address. It's called cross referencing. Photo IDs can be fake too, there's a reason state IDs are updated every few years, it's to keep up with fraudsters who always learn ways to make really good fake IDs.

Having an ID is required to: drive a car, buy alcohol, open a bank account, fly, obtain a job, apply for welfare, get married, get a cell phone plan, buy certain over the counter medication and much more... Not having an ID is a bigger problem than just not being able to vote. If you truly want to help people, then help them get IDs. 21 million voting eligible American citizens (11%) do not have valid ID to fulfill the requirements of voter ID laws. The burden to obtain eligible ID typically costs between $75 and $175 and is nearly impossible for many voters to do despite great effort. Voter ID laws decrease voter turnout by 2-3%. The overwhelming majority of these people prevented from voting are minorities, poor, disabled, college students, elderly, or live rural areas or on Indian reservations. Those demographics also tend to overwhelmingly support liberal issues. That is why it is a "liberal issue." It is a surgical strike designed to flip elections in favor of Republicans despite them holding a narrow minority of support among the citizens they represent.
Since the year 2000, only 31 out of 1 billion in-person ballots cast have been credibly shown to be fraudulent. Here is an interesting question for you. Where do illegals get all their stolen identities they live under? They have to have one because of all the things you literally can't do without a social security number. However, you kinda need the identity to be from a dead person if you don't want to be found out easily. So, who would have easy access to millions of identities that they could confirm the owners of those identities are dead? I would imagine it would have to be someone in government with access to such information. I mean, we have had government agencies caught doing some shady stuff before, like selling guns to the cartels, so are we really prepared to just not even question if the government, or actors within the government are funneling either fake or stolen identities to illegals? I mean, think about it, with a stolen identity they can vote, and if they can vote that gives incentive to do this to the party most likely to benefit.

The *REAL ID ACT* set minimum document requirements to receive an ID or Driver's license...of which, 45 states are compliant. For the indigent, states actually make these documents easy and cheap, if not free, to obtain.
The most basic rule of an election is *CITIZENSHIP* , which must be proven to be eligible to vote. This is not new.
Do some people fall through the cracks, absolutely. By gaslighting this issue, you and Stacey Abrams have half of America believing these people actually want and are eligible to vote.

    • @ZachariahWiedeman
      @ZachariahWiedeman 2 года назад

@@scottbutler2343 Not doublespeak at all. One can totally support the notion that someone must identify themselves at the polls in order to vote while still opposing laws that severely limit acceptable identification to forms of ID that are difficult to obtain.
Let's be perfectly clear: The citizenship hurdle is cleared at registration. To register to vote, one needs a SSN. A non citizen cannot register to vote. No one has ever needed a photo ID to register to vote, because registration is simply the act of matching your a known SSN on file with the government to a particular address. Could this system stand to be improved? Sure. Is it working adequately as is? Yes. Do you have evidence to the contrary? I'm all ears.
Once the registration hurdle is cleared, the only hurdle that a voter should need to clear is that when they vote they need to be able to identify themselves as a specific person - a citizen - who is already registered to vote. I support this. Stacey Abrams supports this. Where you and I may diverge, I think, is what is an acceptable means of identification. In the absence of a photo ID, a sworn affidavit, signature verification, and biographical information (such as address and/or birthdate) should be sufficient. In fact, this is the standard in 43 of the 50 states.
So, what is your concern here? Are you worried that someone is going to show up at the polls and impersonate a registered voter? Let's see what that would entail: That person would have to have advanced knowledge of where someone is registered to vote, basic biographical information about them, and be able to forge their signature - AND know for a fact that person is not going to actually show up to vote (it is very easy to identify if someone has showed up to vote twice and make both ballots provisional, throwing the incorrect one, or both out). That is a LOT of work - and not easy to pull off. The risk of getting caught is extremely high - just look through the Heritage Foundation's database to see how laughably easy it has been to catch people attempting voter fraud. The penalty for getting caught is also extremely high - thousands in fines, jailtime, and permanently expulsion from the U.S. for non-citizens.
The great difficulty necessary to correctly impersonate someone, including forging their signature, and not get caught reduces the number of people who *could* pull off such a feat to something approaching zero. Furthermore, "independent" voter fraud is pointless: The chances of one vote making a difference is statistically zero. For such a scheme to actually work would require a coordinated effort affecting thousands upon thousands of votes (across state lines in the case of Presidential elections). This so greatly increases the chances of getting caught that it becomes practically inevitable. It is basically impossible to pull off such a feat without getting caught. Again, refer to the Heritage Foundation's database of voter fraud cases to see exactly how this is the case. In fact, because of this, the largest attempts at coordinated mass voter fraud have only involved a few hundred votes, were for local elections, and the culprits were *easily* caught.
All this leaves you with are the handful of independent actors who are too stupid to do a simple risk/reward analysis and see that it is completely nonsensical to commit voter fraud as an independent actor. The risk of getting caught is high, the penalty for getting caught is high, and the potential reward for success is practically zero. Again, I refer you to the Heritage Foundation's database to see just how stupid some of these people actually are. Might a few of these dummies slip through the cracks here and there? Sure. Can those cracks be sealed with better registration database, ballot handling, and signature verification procedures? Absolutely, 100%. Or here's a thought: Do what many other countries, including Mexico do: Provide people with a free photo ID when they register to vote. Problem solved. Easy.
Now, in your mind, I'm sure there still exist some hypothetical mastermind criminal who is super clever and willing to stop at nothing to *successfully* impersonate someone at the polls without getting caught. I would argue that such a person does not exist, but for the sake of argument, lets say that there are a few of these well resourced evil geniuses out there who can identify every person they know is not going to show up to vote, memorize their address and birthday, and forge their signature. Gosh, that seems like a LOT of work. Wouldn't it just be easier to make a fake ID? Do you think these "criminal masterminds" don't have access to fake IDs? Teenagers who want to drink underage sure do. If a teenager can get their hands on a legit looking fake photo ID, do you not think that a well motivated fraudster cannot as well? And wouldn't they just do that instead of going to all the additional trouble of gathering the necessary information to sign a bunch of fraudulent sworn affidavits?
When you actually think through this whole thing, it is easy to see why in person voter fraud is incredibly rare. This literally only happens a handful of times per election - certainly not enough to make a difference in the election outcome. That is why onerous photo ID requirements are labeled "A solution in search of a problem."
When you consider that voter fraud is so incredibly rare - and so easy to prevent through bureaucratic means - imposing strict photo ID laws (such as the ones in Wisconsin, Kansas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Indiana, Tennessee, and Georgia) doesn't stand to eliminate much fraudulent voting at all. In balance, it places a high burden of obtaining photo identification upon tens of millions of citizens - working class, minority citizens - many of whom are simply unable to obtain the necessary documents to fulfill that requirement. Let's say that the best estimates of people without proper ID documents is less than 10% of what numerous experts and studies have shown it to be. That is still well over a million U.S. citizens who will be disenfranchised from voting.
So, I ask you what is worse? Disenfranchising millions of U.S. citizens from voting, or a few isolated cases of voter fraud that cannot possibly effect the outcome of an election slipping through the cracks? Clearly, disenfranchising millions of citizens from being able to vote is morally objectionable. One would need an EXTREMELY good reason to justify such a measure. In person voter fraud, for where there is zero evidence that it is even happening and mainly exists in the fantasies of people's wild (and uninformed) imaginations is not a good enough reason to justify disenfranchising millions of U.S. citizens from voting.
Furthermore, disenfranchising millions of poor, minority citizens from voting is WAY more likely to affect the outcome of an election than allowing the current "wild wild west" of possible voter fraud that only results in a handful of isolated cases per year go unchecked. AND REPUBLICANS KNOW THIS. GOP politicians have been caught on tape - multiple times - admitting as much - that they don't actually believe that voter fraud is a problem and they know that strict photo ID requirements will keep far more people who demographically are likely to vote Democrat than those who might vote Republican away from the polls. That is why currently the only states to have such laws are potential swing states and ones with large black of Native American populations (often both).
The politicians and talking heads on FOX News all know this is a big sham: There is not a voter fraud problem, and strict photo ID laws are simply going to disenfranchise more Democratic citizens than Republican citizens, therefore swinging elections in the GOP's favor. They are selling you a bunch of bull when they say otherwise. And if you believe that bull: You are a great big sucker.
Get educated. Use your critical thinking skills. Stop letting politicians and blowhards on TV tell you how to think. Don't be a sucker.

@@ZachariahWiedeman Hogwash. Everything you're saying is predicated on the assumption that it is in fact monumentally difficult for some to obtain a photo ID. That simply is not true. Especially in GA where they help people get their state ID for free and instruct them on how to get the documentation required. There is no nefarious objective. Your argument has no foundation, other than what you "feel" should be.
Registering to vote with just a SS# is an exception, not a rule. All states require current ID or some other form of verifiable documentation. In the absence of these, handful of states allow either the SS# or last 4 digits that match the person's name and address(residency). Even in states that allow a provisional ballot to be cast, there is still a verification process that must be completed prior to their vote being counted. I guarantee if CA ever flipped red, Democrats would immediately institute more stringent voter ID laws.
Leaving out facts to support your belief is tantamount to lying. If there were no fraud, the word "fraud" would not exist...but we live in a world where fraud is committed at every level of existence. To believe it doesn't exist in our voting system is incredibly naive or ridiculously nefarious.

@@scottbutler2343 Serious question: Do you even read - anything? Do you do research and gather facts before diving headfirst into an argument, or do you solely rely on crap you pulled directly out of your butt that smells good enough to you to be a fact, so you call it such?
Because you're starting to sound like someone who has never read anything in his life at this point.
      (1) For MANY Americans, especially Native Americans, blacks born in the south in the mid 20th century, and people born in rural communities, they cannot obtain a proper photo ID because they cannot obtain a birth certificate. That first step alone is *monumentally* difficult for millions of Americans. Many people have been adopted or raised by relatives and don't even know what state they were born in! My own middle-class, white, grandmother never had a birth certificate until she tried to obtain a passport for the first time in her life in her 60's and it took her TWO YEARS of bureaucratic headaches before she could finally obtain one. And not just the time, but the money involved is often hundreds of dollars spent trying to track down a birth certificate - that's time and money that many of the working poor - and even middle-class - simply don't have.
      www.inquirer.com/philly/news/20140327_For_many_Americans__obtaining_a_birth_certificate_proves_challenging.html#uwK0lz8kfrCapqX6.99
I mean, congratulations: You're obviously white, middle class, and were born in a hospital. Obviously, for YOU having the necessary documentation to obtain a photo ID was quite easy. But, I hate to be the one to break it to you, you might want to sit down for this: Not everyone has the same easy life you have. Shocker, I know.
      (2) You have completely (and, I believe quite intentionally) misunderstood and misstated my premise. It is not simply about it being "monumentally difficult" to obtain a photo ID - although for millions of Americans, that describes exactly the situation. The point is that it is that any degree of difficulty - any extra hoops to jump through - functions as a form of voter suppression. Period. Any behavioral economist could tell you that. Putting an unchecked box on a form to opt-in for organ donation doesn't seem like a huge hoop to jump through, but it measurably reduces the number of people who donate who otherwise would when asked verbally, or given an opt-out rather than opt-in function. Every extra thing you ask a citizen to do creates attrition and discourages or prevents people from voting. That is just a fact. It doesn't need to be "monumentally difficult" to have an effect. It just needs to be any measurable degree of difficult.
So, the question must ALWAYS be: when creating any additional barrier to voting, when creating any additional hoop to jump through, is there a justifiable reason to do so?
In the case of these photo ID laws, setting aside the degree of difficulty to obtain such an ID, my MAIN point is that there is not even a justifiable reason to have them in the first place. THEY SERVE NO PURPOSE. They are not preventing mass in-person voter fraud, because pass in-person voter fraud DOES NOT EXIST. These photo ID laws SERVE NO PURPOSE because a valid registration and sworn affidavit and signature matching IS PERFECTLY SUFFICIENT TO SHOW IDENTIFICATION.
      (3) Everything YOU are saying is predicated on the assumption that mass in-person voter fraud exists and that photo ID's will prevent it from happening. This is a false assumption: There is no evidence for it, and it does not make logical sense.
In order to justify adding additional requirements to vote, the burden is upon YOU who are arguing in favor of these additional requirements to justify them. The burden does not lie with me - it is squarely in YOUR lap. You have failed to provide one logical fact-based argument that justifies additional requirements for identification beyond voter registration and a signed sworn affidavit.
You state that fraud exists. I don't disagree with you. So, please stop calling me a "liar" or "naïve" or "nefarious" you hyperbolic, nitwit. Okay great, fraud exists. So what? How MUCH fraud exists? Does enough fraud exist to affect the outcome of an election? Does enough fraud exist to justify making it harder - and in many cases impossible - for millions of people to vote? My argument is simply that it does not.
Theft also exists. Does every convenience store lock every item behind glass cases? Armed robbery exists. Does every store with a cash register keep their tellers locked behind bulletproof glass? Home invasion exists. Is your home secured like Fort Knox with cameras, alarms, sensors, bars on the windows, bulletproof glass, multiple deadbolts, and an arsenal of weaponry to protect yourself?
The answer to all of these questions is, "Of course not." Appropriate measures are taken based on the risks involved. Some measures are too costly to justify the amount of risk mitigated. We are debating the degree of risk and the cost of measures involved to mitigate them.
This argument that "fraud exists" therefore that justifies whatever extra hoops you want to create to try and prevent it is ridiculous. If I were a hyperbolic nitwit, I would even go as far as to say it is naïve or nefarious to make such a simplistic argument. The argument is not about whether or not fraud exists. It is about to what degree fraud exists, what kind of measures can be done to prevent it, and whether or not the number of citizens who will be prevented from voting justifies the AMOUNT of fraud that stands to be eliminated.
Here is why I think you are a simpleton. You cannot seem to wrap your head around the concept of "degrees of risk." You don't have the first clue how pervasive or likely voter fraud is, and you don't really seem to care: You are content with the simpleminded notion that it merely exists. You don't have the first clue what the cost of burden of your proposed fraud prevention measures are - nor whether or not they would even be effective, and you don't really seem to care: You are content with the simpleminded notion that a photo ID = some fraud prevented, and your thinking doesn't go much deeper than that.
I feel sorry for you, really, I do. Or maybe you're the lucky one. I mean, to be so simpleminded. Life might be difficult, but you're too simple to even realize how difficult it is. Fascinating. I honestly can't imagine what it is like to be such a drooling simpleton.
      (4) "Registering to vote with just a SS# is an exception, not a rule. All states require current ID or some other form of verifiable documentation."
Now it is my turn to say "Hogwash." Are you seriously this ignorant? Where are you getting your information? Are you pulling all of this directly out of your Anatomical Nonsensical Uninformed Source? You can register to vote in almost every state with just a social security card, sometimes that is not even requested. Some states require more documentation to prove citizenship, but even these have a wide array of options that accommodate people without a diver's license or state ID card.
Alabama: Mail-in registration only requires last 4 of SSN. You can register without an ID or SSN.
      www.sos.alabama.gov/sites/default/files/voter-pdfs/nvra-2.pdf

      www.recorder.pima.gov/Docs/Voter%20Registration%20Requirements%20re%20LULAC%20and%20Prop%20200.pdf
You know what? This is pointless. I'm not going to spoon feed you like a little baby every single state's list of requirements to register to vote. You are a big boy. You can go find out for yourself. Do some actual research for once in your life.

Maybe when i was 18-22, seems a tiny bit paranoid now to me. MAYBE a few libs might do that, but in order to win votes they have to give people what they want, keeping people fighting doesn't win you votes. What I think it is, is that Democrats and liberals just want people to realize that we are human, we have flaws, we have assumptions and biases, that all can be a little racist but easily fixable. But that doesn't necessarily make everybody a terrible human being or a bigot. Certainly doing something racist because you're human doesn't make you a bad person. But Republicans on the other hand, love to straw man that argument, they like to make people think that liberals are trying to divide us by making everything racist.
"They have weaponized it really the main fight should be the highest economic class hoarding of all the wealth"
I 80% agree with the first part of this statement and 100% agree with the latter! I do think they have weaponized it, they definitely are seeking votes because race is such a popular thing right now, but, if it means we get to fix those biases and racist assumptions, then that's kind of the point of weaponizing it. I mean, was "slavery" weaponized during the civil war as a means to advance the nation? Could we argue that Lincoln and the Union used slavery as a tactic to gain support? Of course! But in the end it worked out. And lastly, i 100% think the rich should be taxed more, they're still going to benefit from much if what their taxes pay for anyway, it just means there will be more for everyone else. It's not like the Rich paying higher taxes means they won't get Access to tax services like public parks, healthcare, etc.

I would submit that a person who is ignorant of the candidates and issues should not cast a ballot. Better that they first make the effort to educate themselves. The best representatives in any elected position are the well educated. The same should apply to the electorate.

Brian Daniels - I know , and you should know , that research shows that very few people who are ineligible actually vote . Just because Kris Kobach and Donald Trump say there is a problem , doesn`t make that so . In the past , we have any number of kooks say that they would provide PROOF of voting by those who are ineligible , but the proof never shows up . The concern about the illegals voting is a phony concern. It comes from white people seeing "brown" people in voting lines and assuming that they are illegals . When 13 % of the electorate is Hispanic , you are going to see "brown" people in voting lines . When 12 % of the electorate consists of non Hispanic " blacks" you are going to see "black" people in voting lines . ( Illegals tend to keep a low profile . They don`t generally do stuff to bring attention to themselves . They won`t report crimes against themselves . Yet , you actually believe that they go to voting booths , and cast a ballot , even though that can bring attention and a prison sentence on themselves . )

Don’t tell Stacey this but you need ID’s to buy and consume alcohol. You need ID to buy and consume Tobacco. You need ID to purchase/watch an R rated film in both theaters and in demand. Practically you need an ID to buy and consume a lot of things. In fact you need an ID to drive a vehicle since your driver’s license is considered a valid form of ID. Where’s the outrage from people like Stacey Abraham’s when it comes to the items where you clearly need ID to buy and consume certain items. The same ID you would use to buy those items is the same ID you would need to vote. Now her counter might be that those items are not a right granted by the constitution and voting is. My response…. So is owning a gun.
