My son is a plumber, Eric. So when he first started out in "The Business" I asked him the question everyone asks a plumber. "How do you stand the smell?" His immediate response was: "It smells like money to me!" With a big grin on his face. So, Eric, I notice your sounds there in the shop and fully understand that: "They sound like money to you." Kudos on taking time to explain things in stress filled, frustrating, situations without lacing your vocabulary with profanity. It takes time to set up cameras, be mindful of lighting or camera angles and still maintain a business. I commend you on your craftsmanship, grammar and a happy wife with a cheery little girl running around. I love it!
+Maxify08 That you sir, well you know as well as I do it is not always peaches and cream, but I don't believe there is any benefit to loosing you mind on camera and filling your videos with f-bombs and profanity to make it a "cool" vid. I think good content and humor is better IMO.... oh and you son is right, rust and corrosion in my book ..."looks like money to me!"
I could not agree with you more sir. A TRUE PROFESSIONAL doesn't need to use foul language or blame someone else for what is in front of them in ANY job. Eric has a true PROFESSIONAL attitude about his work and respect for others, than himself.
I can't believe someone would whine and unsubscribe because of the doorbell and phone. I wanted to thank you Eric, for taking the time to make these videos when instead you could be pushing many more vehicles out the door. All of your videos help me immensely.
From what I've seen your a trouble shooter and not a parts shooter! You replace parts per diagnostic conclusions and you verify your repair. As a tech myself , that's priceless and I commend your technical skills and wisdom.
You mention in this video that you had 2k subscribers. Now you have 634k subscribers. You deserve every single one. Thank you for helping the shade-tree mechanic and pro alike. God bless you and your family.
I've been a tech for over 30 years now and your videos are fantastic in every way! Thanks so much for the logic, humor, humility! It's a real pleasure to be a subscriber. Keep it up Eric!
You are one of the few Techs on RUclips that actually know how to make a proper video. Enjoy yours thoroughly. To the subscriber that quite due to the door bell and phone, good riddance! it's called BUSINESS!
hey so.main, im a shade tree,, neighborly mechanic, who just loves learning, fixing vehicles, and helping folks not get ripped, off as a whole the auto repair and sales biz is filled with shysters and thieves. your calm logical, practical and HONEST approach is so refeshing, bless you for sharing your expertise, its priceless. the time and effortt you spend giving back as im sure you know, keeps the return blessings coming to you from the most high God at 100 fold as well as the good karma you create by example , much of which you dont see , but i can tell you, youre a star in the the heavens and creating "wealth" for you and generations to come. thank you.
Idiots. Don't people realize that what is making this channel special is the fact that it's true reality. This is a working shop and Eric is permitting us to look over his shoulder and watch him fix real cars that have real problems. That's unique on RUclips. Anybody that owns a business wants the phone to ring and people to walk through the door.
***** SATAMAN Schmidt Paul Preston Yeah I thought it was funny when that guy commented and said that. I bet he is a real treat to be around. Like I say if that is the worst that happens to him in life he should feel pretty dang good. This is real reality, wish I could record some interaction with vendors and customers to top it all off :)
I wish I can find a mechanic, half as good as you are, honest and very thorough in your diagnosis of mechanical issues! Your door bell was driving me crazy as I watched your video, but you can count me in as a new subscriber to your channel, Damn your a hell of a mechanic!!!!!!
I was going to unsubscribe because of the doorbell but when I checked I realized I hadn't even subscribed yet!, so I subscribed to your channel because of the doorbell! I bet nobody has ever done that!
"i don't guess anymore"...the single most important step of progress for the professional troubleshooter. Good Work. I can appreciate doing a complete set of steps to determine root cause. It seems obvious, but one of the most underutilized skills in troubleshooting is doing a quick read on description and operation of a component and/or system. (avionics, boeing and airbus background)
I remember working on this old junk getting the distributor hold down wrench getting a zap off of the distributor. Lol Changing the weights underneath the rotor to make the vacuum advance come on quicker or later. Don't miss it!!
You seem to keep the interests of the customer present in your strategy for diagnosis and repair. This is laudable and pretty rare, I think, for independent shops. Your videos are excellent and in reading the comments that seems to be the consensus.
Learn something new just about every time I see a new upload on your channel. Eric, we all know you are not a parts changer. Experience, basic troubleshooting and common sense make for a great mechanic like yourself. Look forward to your next video.
Don't sweat it. I am self-employed owners and rely on that phone and doorbell to ring that is how we make our money. Keep up the good work on all the videos I'm enjoying them James
Eric O!! You are such an awesome guy!! So glad I made the trip for my birthday to meet you and your family July 7. Thanks for -all- you do! You’re the man! 2000 subscribers? Way back in the day when we had less greys and more browns!
Did this fix exactly as you described and it worked perfectly. Luckily I didn't have to do the idle re-learn (maybe because I adjusted the new TPS to match the old like you demoed?) because I was in the middle of driving 1000km (600 miles) home for Christmas when I needed to do the fix. I figure it had plenty of time to re-learn. Thanks for the video, it saved Christmas for us.
Nice job of explaining what is wrong or might be wrong on vehicles someone else has not repaired properly. if I lived in your neighborhood, you'd get my business.
Like I said on a more recent video, I’m trying to catch up. What a difference 2 years makes. Still an outstanding troubleshooter, but the later videos show that you’ve become accustomed to making the videos and your audience has fully accepted you and the shop/phone noises. It’s just money in the bank and you sure deserve every bit of it.
Don't understand why people switch off after 3 mins. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. Got my wife to sub just to hear that doorbell haha. Ireland checking in 🇮🇪🇺🇸
I'd like to say thank you for your video. having the same issues with my 1997 C1500 with 253,000. I've done all mechanical repairs on it myself. It's been a gem of a truck up to this last year. Now I need to find me a mechanic that has the computer reader and not just a code reader which is what I have. Thanks again and keep the videos coming
Someone actually unsubscribed because of your doorbell and phone??? To me, this indicates a busy shop and also indicates you know your craft. I subscribed, so now you're even! Regards!
Good job making these videos! I very much appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Good to know guys like you are out there doing the right thing being a good honest person. Wear your safety glasses !!!!!!!
Good job !!! If any one can do it you wouldn't be a value ! NOTE>>>> All the shops in our area have been closing down . KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING !!! KEEP POSTING YOU TUBE VIDEOS on your jobs to show them that , thorough GOOD mechanics are !
Eric O, I have watched plenty of Video's on the internet of the "MECHANICS AT WORK" You by far have the best ability to diagnose, and provide a solution to the problem. You have had many that went to other shops that could not be fixed and you did it! I enjoy all of your video's and you are a good teacher when it comes to fixing the problem. Keep up the good work!
Just earned yourself another subscriber, I really like how you try to keep it simple for the people that dont do this stuff for a living. Also who cares about the doorbell and phone, it just shows that you have customers that trust you to do the job. Keep up the good work man.
You’re a good man Mr. O, , you’re out in the middle of east of BFE. Probably not the most affluent area, and all you’re trying to do is the best job possible and make the repair as affordable as possible for the client. I’ve only subbed about a year ago and have almost watched every video. Have spent many hours watching with complete total enjoyment. Rebuilt my first motor over 50 years ago, a 1967 Slant Six ha ha ha. Times have definitely changed......along with your $65 an hour ha ha ha
My old truck was a 1996 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton Chevy c-1500 with a 4.3 liter Vortec v-6,it had big rust holes in the bed and top of gas tank ,it was parked where I worked, then it snowed and filled the box and turned to thunderstorm and filled the gas tank,it failed to start after that, this was back this past February,it had 320,657 miles on it,I don't know what to do,I need a mechanic I can trust and I trust you but I fear I live to far away,I don't even change my own oil any more,it sucks getting old, thank you for your indulgence in advance.
Love every one of your videos even the old ones. And the doorbell and the phone means you’re busy and people like you And you’re making money outside of you tube.
Another enlightening video - thanks! It's great to hear your thinking as you go along and especially to learn the story behind why codes are sometimes somewhat misleading until you know the theory of operation behind how they set. The somewhat different approaches and drivers behind them that Scanner Danner and you use complement each other for your subscribers. Both are Real Life but your professional lives are interesting in different ways. When I first started watching I considered sending you a new hat until I looked them up and found out that they come worn out looking as new. I knew blue jeans were sometimes "distressed" to give an old worn look but never dreamed that country boys would go for that fashion. "Got all the good outa that" used to mean honest wear, not somebody in a factory hitting on the product with a disc grinder! Just kidding, of course, your channel is great - it's good to see you enjoy sharing your work.
Hey now don't blow my cover on my pre-worn hat haha! I have added my own honest wear to it but yeah the brims come messed up haha, it saves you years of experience lol
I love auction vehicles! My favorite of all time- valvetrain chatter, oil full of aluminum particles. I check the rockers and notice some kind of spacers or shims or something under half of them on the valve stem. Removing the shims, I realized they were clippings from a Bud Light beer can used to try to shim the play between the rocker to the valvestems.
Hey Eric, another great video! Never run into that cam/crank code before, so thanks for walking us through that procedure. Don't apologize for throwing that O2 sensor in there! A super quick check you could have done to confirm the O2 circuit wiring (I think ScannerDanner calls it the signal circuit integrity test) while you were under the truck, was touch the test light (connected to B+) to the signal wire going to the PCM with KOEO. If the scan tool shows a high signal (like >1000mV), the wire is good, and you can feel 100% confident to replace the sensor :) As for powering your VERUS, I checked the actual voltage output of the factory Snap On charger vs. the Rockford jump pack. The factory charger says 17V, actual is 19V. Rockford says 19V, actual is 21V. So a 2V difference is there, but that is well within the engineers' margin of safety so I would say it's not a big deal.
Good to know about the rockford thanks, ya know I should have just created an open circuit to see it the 02 jumped to the .450v mark then just simply grounded the signal wire and see it drop to zero. "Quick and Dirty" I was 98% certain we were on the right path though :) Hind sight is always 20/20 right?
Oh yeah take advantage of the bias voltage if it's there! I'm surprised the truck didn't peg the fuel trims rich in trying to compensate for the stuck-lean O2 sensor on Bank 2...does the downstream affect fuel trims as well? In any case, even if the code itself was misleading, GM's back-up strategy seems more robust than some other manufacturers...
hey good afternoon normally I'm not too good about leaving comments on people's pages but you really helped us out on this one man cuz I'll hear they don't tell you you know the simple way they want you to take it to a shop and get paid $300 later and then they tell you it's a bulb so thank you definitely worth appreciate it God bless man keep up the good work
I'm fairly critical of most videos and their creators. Most have me weeding through too much braggadocious BS hoping for the information I need, but not Yours! I really enjoy your professional, yet not-boring videos!
Watching your videos remind me of auto shop class. So much to learn, your a great teacher. As for the door chime and phone, that's the sound of money. Lol
Great video Eric! You're a real good guy for putting those bell housing bolts back in! 👍👍👍 I really hope you are ignoring stupid comments, like the ones about your bell and phone. Don't let those put you down, the more subscribers you get,the more idiots will come along, but the majority of people watching your channel really appreciate your videos and the extra work you put into making them, especially since this is a working shop and your business to support your family. Really really appreciated!!! 👍👍👍 Also, thanks so much for telling us the mileage on the cars you're working on!
Lol! I know but mileage is relevant to the repairs. For ex,it's nice to know when the head gasket failed on that RAV4 or if you told me this baby Tahoe had 20K on it I'd start looking for a shrink. Lol!
Still don't understand how you don't have more subscribers. In my opinion this is one of the best channels on youtube. Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work.
Ugh! That friggin door chime!! Hahaha! I may call your shop in hopes of interrupting your next video. All jokes aside, I turn wrenches all day then come home to see if you have posted anything new. Keeps me sharp diagnosing along with you! Keep em coming!
Roger Anthony Ahh..., that is the way to get our unsubscriber back, tell him if he calls we'll put his phone chime in the video. Lost opportunities... I just subscribed a second time - love the chimes. That's how you make the money to initially pay for the videos. But who's counting! That made me laugh about the chimes...
good videos bro!! like how you not only step by step problems but also explain on the scanner of what the part /problem could be and just everyone involved on the procedure of a repair. thanks!
Congratulations guy! In this old video you mentioned that you had over 50K subscribers. You now (July 26, 2021) have over 550K subs! Peace, Love, and Charity!
I've been watching your videos I'm an experienced mechanic but I'm not real experienced with the scanner I've been out of commission for some years I'm getting back into the mechanic work but you explain it in a way that I can understand very good I'm going to be watching a lot more of your videos
You were talking about the subscriber who quit due to your doorbell and phone. I've only been watching your videos for a month or so now, but my office is in the basement and our doorbell chime relays down to the basement as well and the chime sounds the exact same. A couple times now I've hollered at the kids to see if anyone is at our door, and then sheepishly figured out its on your video. I guess thats a testament to how good your audio is and how slow I am to figure out what's actually going on. :)
Great video, thanks for sharing. I've got the same O2 sensor code on my 1999 Silverado. I'll be using this video to help in my swapping it out, because I AM a part swapper.
Noticed your top side creeper, I bought one and love it. So much easier than knees on the rad support, one hand on cowel and trying to work on dist cap with the other hand. Much easier using both hands while not in a strain. Btw door bell and phone = CUSTOMERS = MORE MONEY....
What is it with you young fellers. my son, 35 wears one with the bill frayed just like yours. every generation has it thing. btw, you approached 250 subscribers (1 of which is myself) in -15 and I am watching you in the future @ 2020 and you are going on half a mil. Congrats. you deserve it. ALSO, my comment below, duh, mentioning the dollar/hr rate. yeah, that 65 compared to home sweet Alabama was 5 yrs. ago, so disregard the previous. Say high to the Mrs O for me. I will keep watching and posting.
If you had a TV show i'd be addicted ! My dad was a Snap On Tool dealer for over 20 years and i wish i could afford a Verus Pro and i'm just a backyard mechanic, but i trust me over most mechanics lol. But you my friend are a true professional. I'd hire you any day because i'd have complete peace of mind if my vehicle was in your hands !!! Oh yeah, did the check engine light go off ?
fun to go back and watch the older videos from when you first started youtube. I've been sub'd since the early days! You've come a long way Mr O! good job! I used this video to help Diag my sons 96' CHEVROLET (Read it the way Mr. O says it)
I may be a new subscriber, there are a lot of us, but let's be honest, if it wasn't for background noises we wouldn't know you have an actual business! Kudos on everything man. I've used your videos plenty of time to do it myself!
Love your channel I haven’t watched all the videos but maybe someday! I tell people I am driveway certified. I wish I was talented as you at diagnosis.
love the show and watching your expertise. But I was stunned when you mentioned your hourly rate. I figured being in the NY area it would be higher than here in the deep south. going rate in 2020 is 90/hr. you are one hellva bargain considering your diagnostic ability.
WELL I'M STAYING... DOOR CHIME,OR YOUR PHONE RINGS.. IT'S YOUR BUSINESS.. AND MONEY RING TOO MY EAR'S TOO ME..WITH THAT YOU DON'T HAVE A BUSINESS...KEEP UP THE AWSUM WORK DR. O.. HAVE A AWESOME DAY.. CHRIS..
Watching this 6 years later and Eric is bragging about 2000 subscribers 😂 Now he's at 563,000 . Amazing. Live the videos and I think I am running out of old ones to watch.
A lot of trucks and 4wd in your area... Imagine that... I think your videos are A-1 and been looking for a 1998 - 2000 Accord 2.3 videos, but nothing so far. Thanks for the great videos!
Hey Eric..... My brother is a pest exterminator, every time he smells a skunk he takes a deep breath and say's the smell of money!!! enjoy your vids, happy new year
Love your videos Mr O. From Bill in Ontario. I think its pretty funny that a subscriber would quit over a doorbell or the phone ringing. You are running a business after all. Please keep making your great videos. The beans must be given daily. lol
My son is a plumber, Eric. So when he first started out in "The Business" I asked him the question everyone asks a plumber. "How do you stand the smell?"
His immediate response was: "It smells like money to me!" With a big grin on his face.
So, Eric, I notice your sounds there in the shop and fully understand that: "They sound like money to you."
Kudos on taking time to explain things in stress filled, frustrating, situations without lacing your vocabulary with profanity.
It takes time to set up cameras, be mindful of lighting or camera angles and still maintain a business.
I commend you on your craftsmanship, grammar and a happy wife with a cheery little girl running around.
I love it!

I agree without business no videos.
I agree
From what I've seen your a trouble shooter and not a parts shooter! You replace parts per diagnostic conclusions and you verify your repair. As a tech myself , that's priceless and I commend your technical skills and wisdom.
Wow how time flies 2K at filming, now February 2024 868K 😳😳
Awesome videos, love the channel!
Yes! Thank you!
You mention in this video that you had 2k subscribers. Now you have 634k subscribers. You deserve every single one. Thank you for helping the shade-tree mechanic and pro alike. God bless you and your family.

If someone unsubscribes because of your door bell, it’s his/her educational loss. Keep up the great instruction!

Schrodingers Box South Main Auto Repair ah hahaha that is just 2 funny, lmao.
If the scan tool shows a high signal (like >1000mV), the wire is good, and you can feel 100% confident to replace the sensor :)
As for powering your VERUS, I checked the actual voltage output of the factory Snap On charger vs. the Rockford jump pack.
In any case, even if the code itself was misleading, GM's back-up strategy seems more robust than some other manufacturers...
motoYam82 Yeah the live videos force me to think fast. Mmmm not sure about the down stream contribution to FT, I wouldn't think so though
I'm happy to hear your doorbell and your phone! It's good to be busy. 10k subscribers coming soon...
Like I say, I need that more than I need to make videos ya know :)
hey good afternoon normally I'm not too good about leaving comments on people's pages but you really helped us out on this one man cuz I'll hear they don't tell you you know the simple way they want you to take it to a shop and get paid $300 later and then they tell you it's a bulb so thank you definitely worth appreciate it God bless man keep up the good work
Gosh,i totally enjoyed your old video.Great mechanic.
I'm fairly critical of most videos and their creators. Most have me weeding through too much braggadocious BS hoping for the information I need, but not Yours! I really enjoy your professional, yet not-boring videos!
WOW you went from 2k-327k subscribers in 4years! CONGRATULATION keep up the good quality work
Subscriber P.O.ed because of a phone and doorbell, what a sterile life they must live.
Great video, may the Lord keep you well!
Watching your videos remind me of auto shop class. So much to learn, your a great teacher. As for the door chime and phone, that's the sound of money. Lol
Glad you enjoy them, well in some cases it's money :)
Also, thanks so much for telling us the mileage on the cars you're working on!
Bahh let the haters hate right. Hey I do the mileage for you haha
Lol! I know but mileage is relevant to the repairs. For ex,it's nice to know when the head gasket failed on that RAV4 or if you told me this baby Tahoe had 20K on it I'd start looking for a shrink. Lol!
Lol yeah got ya :)
Still don't understand how you don't have more subscribers. In my opinion this is one of the best channels on youtube. Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work.
Well a Constant ringing and door bell is the sign of a busy shop with good mechanics isn't it
Ugh! That friggin door chime!! Hahaha! I may call your shop in hopes of interrupting your next video. All jokes aside, I turn wrenches all day then come home to see if you have posted anything new. Keeps me sharp diagnosing along with you! Keep em coming!
Roger Anthony Lol if you call and I am recording I can post it haha
Roger Anthony Ahh..., that is the way to get our unsubscriber back, tell him if he calls we'll put his phone chime in the video. Lost opportunities... I just subscribed a second time - love the chimes. That's how you make the money to initially pay for the videos. But who's counting! That made me laugh about the chimes...
I'm watching 5yr old vids and had to subscribe.. You got yer sht together,, very cool.. Phones and doorbells just mean your well liked..
26:48, Eric, that is the last accusation I'd ever level at you. You're one of the most conscientious techs I've ever known of...
I’m new to the channel, but want to say Thank You. You’ve helped out a bunch the last month with keeping my 2007 Yukon on the road! Thanks!
Man its amazing as a auto tech what we have to go through to fix a vehicle. Great video.
Automotive Technology Oh it sure is :)
Another great video.
One of the best lines is at 29:18 "it's a little tight up in there, let me get the old smoke wrench."
Sandbag1300 Well we do what we gotta do right?
Exhaust work tool....That "smoke wrench" is must have to turn too tight to loose enough to get it out.....
For every door bell ring...an angel gets it's wings.
Got to love it, people watch scannerdanner videos and then they try to tell you how to do your job. like you don't know what your doing.
Mehh to each there own, I like Paul and there are a lot of other good mechanics out there too :) We all have our style and preferred method of repair.
I like him too but I think he's getting bit greedy oh oh did he say it.
I'll subscribe to make up for the guy that quit for the doorbell and phone rings. You do a great job, I like your honesty. thanks for doing this.
Really does great job to explain and show what is being done
good videos bro!! like how you not only step by step problems but also explain on the scanner of what the part /problem could be and just everyone involved on the procedure of a repair. thanks!
Eric, Thanks for this video! I watched every minute of it and thoroughly enjoyed!
shaesdad56 Thank you sir, glad you enjoyed it :)
Dig your videos Eric. Also your kind honest demeanor and AWSOME sense of humor. You Rock!
Checking out some of your og videos, still doing great job Mr. O!!!
One of the best techs I'm ever seen
Noticed your top side creeper, I bought one and love it. So much easier than knees on the rad support, one hand on cowel and trying to work on dist cap with the other hand. Much easier using both hands while not in a strain. Btw door bell and phone = CUSTOMERS = MORE MONEY....
I'm fairly new. Been going back and seeing some of the older ones. This was a good one.
Ha, I love the doorbell. More doorbell means more work for the shop. More work means more videos for us to watch. Win win I say!
+Dave BINGO!
Like watching a procedure I will be doing tomorrow. Thanks for the down to earth fix.
Thanks for all your efforts and the helpful educating videos. I really appreciate that.
***** YW Thanks for watching :)
fun to go back and watch the older videos from when you first started youtube. I've been sub'd since the early days! You've come a long way Mr O! good job! I used this video to help Diag my sons 96' CHEVROLET (Read it the way Mr. O says it)
30:43 At the time of this post you have since added 821.... THOUSAND!! (great work sir.)
Eric I keep seeing things I need to know.Even on some of older videos,Thanks ck,wisc.
I may be a new subscriber, there are a lot of us, but let's be honest, if it wasn't for background noises we wouldn't know you have an actual business! Kudos on everything man. I've used your videos plenty of time to do it myself!
Love all your videos I’ve been watching them for over four years now!
Man you're the greatest you're very thorough my 96 Chevy pickup is running rough I've learned a lot thank you
WELL I'M STAYING... DOOR CHIME,OR YOUR PHONE RINGS.. IT'S YOUR BUSINESS.. AND MONEY RING TOO MY EAR'S TOO ME..WITH THAT YOU DON'T HAVE A BUSINESS...KEEP UP THE AWSUM WORK DR. O.. HAVE A AWESOME DAY.. CHRIS..
Dude your awesome man just watching your videos give me alot of knowledge thank you for all your videos.
Sure glad there’s guys like you were around unfortunately there’s not enough of them and they’re not around here
2000 subscribers and now almost 65k. unreal man. congrats keep going love your videos and your sense of humour. love the doorbell too!
Watching this 6 years later and Eric is bragging about 2000 subscribers 😂
Now he's at 563,000 .
The beans must be given daily. lol
