Yes, I love to make my own bias binding, for the look, using fabric scraps, and the pure satisfaction of it. This is how I make my bias tape, except that I always take the time to press the seams open, in order to achieve a flatter finish. Slippery or very lightweight fabrics can be tricky. I use starch and allow it to dry before cutting and sewing the bias tape. It will wash out afterward. I plan to try a little soluble machine embroidery stabiliser in place of starch in the near future, something I've seen done on RUclips.
Ohhh that's a great idea. I have that fabric stiffening spray. I'll have to try that if I do slippery fabrics.
Oh honey, I love making and using bias tape. That bias tape maker tool is a pleasure to use....very nice😊You can go ahead and send those my way😁. HAPPY SEWING!
Thanks so much! 🤣🤣🤣. I'll hang on to the others. You know something will come up for.me to use them. I just DM'd you on Instagram.
Your joy at learning a new skill is so delightful! We've all been there, so it's so relatable.
I broke down and bought a bias tape maker kit. I spent waaay too long comparing the kits on Amazon and chose one branded Honeysew. It was about $13, and has 5 sizes of tape makers, a bias binding foot, an awl and even a few pins and wonder clips. Now when I'm wandering in Joann, I remind myself "you have that kit. Get away from the bias tape!" Just making a few batches pays for the cost of a bias tape set. And you are right, it is so much prettier and more fun!😊
Yay, isn't it such a beautiful look and while a bit tedious, like you said the end result is so nice 😊
I’ve been wanting to do this too but just haven’t gotten around to it! You’ve inspired me!!
Give it a try, it wasn't bad at all 😁
Very nice video with good information. Make sure your fabric cuts for the strips are done at a 45 degree angle to get the most stretch.
I definitely tried to make sure on this particular one but will make sure going forward. Thank you 😊
Blessing to you
I’ve only ever made my bias tape. I’m used to making it for quilts and rather than drawing lines I use the 45 line on my 24 inch ruler to make my first cut. Then I can line my ruler up with this line to cut bias the width I want using my rotary cutter. Super fast and accurate.
That sounds like a great process, thanks for sharing and thank you for watching.
Thanks for sharing, I brought me a set 3 months ago, but I haven't tried using them yet. I just did my first single bia tape binding store brought last week on a dress. I loved the resultsI can only imagine self bias. It really made your dress look more professional. Congratulations on your new skills
Thanks Vanessa and give it a try, you will LOVE the final look. Thanks for watching 😊
I have that same kit for binding tape. I have tried the other technique too where you cut the tape after sewing the ends of a square. For fabrics that does not hold a crease, I prefer the latter. I really like the final results of all of your makes.
Thank you so much and that's also a great tip. 😊
I just learned how to make my own bias tape ... I avoided it and now I wish I had done this sooner. 😂
Thank you soo much for showing how to do the bias binding like this!😍😊
I get intimidated on the fold thing.. I'm sure it can be done 🤷♀️ but this is great if your limited on scraps left!❤ I love ALL the looks!
Thanks so much 😊. Yeah I want to figure out the cutting on the fold thing as well.
Really great video Nateida! That pattern worked really well with those fabrics! I was AMAZED when you mentioned that Brown print came from JoAnn and hope you know I’ll be looking for it! 😉😉🤗😘
Thanks my friend and thanks for sharing you found the fabric 🥰. It's really nice and soft. Thanks for watching
I have a set like this. I have not used it until I saw your video. There is a silver bar that comes up so you can pull fabric through, so you don't have to touch the sides if there hot.
You know what....I thought that was for "locking" the crease in place as I was pulling it through, but that TOTALLY makes sense - LOL! Thanks
I'm not talking about you! I have the gadget to make bias tape. I will be there Wednesday!😅
I got the Harmony blouse and got your discount!😅
Thanks so.much Zelda and do let me know how your Harmony turns out. I see you went pattern shopping. I gotta checkout your video. For whatever reason the new McCall Patterns weren't out in my area yet.
What fabric do you use to line wovens? Great information. Thanks
Ohhh it depends on the garment. I've used bemberg, cotton lawn or cotton poplin, a polyester lining, a silk, or you can line in the same fashion fabeic. It would depend on what you are making ☺️. Hope that helps.
Did you make the top your wearing? I love it. If so, what pattern is it?
Hey there, yep i made the top im wearing. I just looked it up. It's now repackaged as Butterick 6847
Thank you!!! Did you do a sew along for that pattern? If not, I would love it.
