Glycolysis vs Gluconeogensis Regulation Enzymes (PFK-1 , PFK-2, F-1,6 BPase) Biochemistry MCAT

During the fed state, high blood glucose concentrations lead to Insulin release into the blood stream. This insulin activates Glycolysis. This leads to glucose being oxidized which creates the ATP used for anabolism and biosynthesis of fatty acids and triglycerides (storing energy from meal)
During the fasted state, low blood glucose concentrations lead to Glucagon release into the blood stream. This Glucagon activates Gluconeogenesis (using non-carbohydrate intermediates to biosynthesize glucose). The ATP needed to fuel this process comes from fat oxidation. Now that we’ve biosynthesize glucose, it can be released into the blood stream to restore blood glucose concentrations.
