Agreed. It looked great, but these days it would allow a lot more time for someone to set up for a flashlight or flashbang safe with the killer locked into such a long animation state.

Thank you for being seemingly the only person making a vid on the history of pickup animations! I’ve for whatever reason have been amazed with how much grab animations have changed over the years. So thank you for showing this all!
Some other things are failing sabotage skill checks, medium vaults which was previously a sped up slow vault, self unhooking which used to throw you onto the ground, blast mine/wiretap getting an actual animation, chemical trap being one of the first perks to get an animation on its release, and Dwight getting his old lobby animations back recently. Obviously there are a dozen things you could talk about (like gen kicking being added and victor being able to inspect lockers) but these are some of the biggest examples I can think of.
I personally preferred the older animations especially for survivor because u felt like u were actually running instead of speed walking, and 360's and moonwalks were much smoother

For old animations I liked to the old injured run and window grab. The old injured run makes survivors look like their limping which adds to the desperateness of being injured
Awesome video! As always. :3 Just wanted to mention that the animation of surivors faces when they get hooked got also changed. At first their faces didn't move at all. After this their mouth opened widely and then we got the animations we have now. Also their faces move a little when they are on the hook and when they are injured which wasn't the case at first.
Would be nice if the old grab animation was a rare animation that activates if there is no survivor with a flashlight or flashbang near the killer and the grabbed survivor
I have a memory of there being a unique animation in the end game lobby if you escaped through the hatch where your survivor would crouch walk through an underground dirt tunnel, although i can't find this anywhere no matter how hard i look

additionally, when a survivor carrying an item screams back then(screams caused from perks or killers), they used to scream holding the item with one hand only and the other one would just hang in the air with it but now they scream holding the item with both hands it is a minor difference but still a change :D
I started playing DbD when the New Animations made it to live, so i never experienced the old Animations. I have to say that most of the old changed Animations look way better. The new Animations are all so stiff. And can we talk about the lightning and Filters on the Maps? The Maps look so much cooler with these!
People just prefer the old movement animations because of the smooth turn and not because of the looks of it, because lets be real they look really bad

the window/pallet grab animations were changed because they were too slow and left a large window for flashlight saves, also (I think) they changed them so the matches would have a quicker pace to them (or something like that)
Some folks also believe that the later(?) locomotion update got rolled back because the devs listened to their complaints-blissfully unaware that it was _actually_ because of the awful desync issues that they caused.

I always felt like a lot of people overplayed the hate for the newer animations, but then I am also reminded that a good 20% of the community thinks stretched res looks "nice" so....
Being someone who from beta all the way up until blight was released, then coming back, i have no idea who would ever prefer the original animations over the new ones. People actually look like theyre running normally instead of having the stiffest joints in the universe. I do wish the injured survivors "gallop" was updated to be smoother instead of just being replaced by normal running but i much prefer the new running over the wierd limping.
The new ones are trash in my opinion. I genuinely believe that if anyone who prefers new animations tried the old ones they would agree. In the old animations your characters head was tied to your camera position, so you could look up and down while running and looking backwards in a chase felt so smooth. Also the turn rate was so much better and felt snappier. ALSO THEY REMOVED CROUCH NODDING, 4.5.0 is still the worst update in the games history hands down.
@@NyerdDBD I'm also old dbd players who not comfort with new animation when came out and feel a bit curse, but when time go on it feel nothing so it more like not use to new animation problem. So if you believe anyone ever tried the old animation they would agree with you is not true. Around me my friend and some random youtube video talk about this they also say like me that it so new and many people still not use to it just that, and nothing wrong with the animation and depend more on who like it and who didn't. Also about animation more slow than it should be snappier might be something you don't like but you have to agree that it more good how game be. Old survivor could just spin around in lightyear speed and too hard for new and some normal players to turn around as killer to keep track the survivor, even old dbd until now when I play killer I always play with highest sensitive so I can counter 360 spin even it very uncomfort to me.
The plague is a cool design and all but her animations look very very puppet looking. She needs more realistic movement. She walks and moves her arms like a marionette.
The old animations are off but they had a certain pizzaz the new ones need. Like they looked scared and the way their arms swung around more satifying to me idk also i dont care tok much about animations but the old movement NOT animstions just the movement definitely felt better
Old movement I still miss to this day it was more clanky but felt more smoothing when you 360 or looping, Fortnite has made there animations even worse than DBD somehow unless we going on about DBD PTB movement 💀 that was a yikes… and you could of talked about the flashlights changes like back in 2020 it was really zoomed in which I still prefer (maybe nostalgia idk) and then Ofc they changed it to it being far and slowly zooming in and getting smaller and etc but enjoyed the video I haven’t watched DBD in a few months but nostalgic DBD past videos hits different 😂
I like the were-elk skin only because it's the closest thing we can to have a werewolf in-game. Seriously why hasn't behavior added an actual werewolf killer? it's one of the classic monsters in media
just don't understand the complaining about ds animation. like puffalope said 'they just had to do a stabbing motion that's it' and, i mean, thats what it is ? just a stabbing animation. i get it gameplay wise because it takes the survivors time but makes no sense to me why people are acting like its the worst animation in history
people didn't like it because dbd devs are so incompetent they literally couldn't code it so that the animated played before the stun was given. The Skill check being given and the animation playing took time away from the 5 secs and essentially only gave a 2-3 second stun. Removing the anim was the only way bhvr could keep it at 5 secs

Crazy to think that it's been 3+ years since 4.5.0 (animations overhaul), and at the time the animations had been used for 4.5 years.
old animations were gold i miss them i hope they bring a feature maybe a clinet side version of them in the option menu

I remember when the killer would literally THROW the survivor on the ground before picking them up when grabbed it seemed more funny and horrifying
They should've just made the survivor animation changes toggleable. If you want the new one or old one you could chose between them.

For someone who playing 3.2.2 version of the game i feel the slow movement on live whit 3 5 or 10% im not sure and i belive beause haste perks 😂
