These steps go for your face too. So many times I hear about people who tried cleansing oils and then say it didn't work for them or it broke them out or it left a film on their face and then when asked more they had no idea how to use their cleansing oil and didn't know how emulsifying is done!
Sirah1981 lol, yes I come across this a lot as well. I've actually even made a video about how to use cleansing oils just so I can refer people to it when they ask. It's just such a fast and effective way to take of makeup!
Sorry, I know I'm commenting late, but I would say it's ok to use the sponge a couple of times before washing it, unless you're prone to break outs, then I'd say wash it every time
I'm kind of lazy about cleaning so took advantage of current Missha 40% sale and got 3 more of these pads for $1.80 each. Also bought the new oil to foam cleansers - not sure how they stack against the regular oil cleansers but there seems to be more of these oil emulsifying type cleansers than before in the Asian brands.
bellesalvia That's a pretty good deal and frankly I probably would have stocked up too. Unfortunately we don't have a Missha store here plus the exchange rate is so bad that it's not worthwhile buying much at the moment :(
gupkets If you're talking the very thick velour ones I'd use a foaming cleanser for that because you can rub and squeeze them without much worry. CC/BB Cushion sponges usually are delicate and can't handle the same type of rubbing so I find this works well.
TheAznDoDo I don't feel like I've tried enough cushion products to really give a comprehensive video on this one. So far I've only tried the Iope, Laneige, Makeon Cushion. There's reviews for all of them up on my blog if you are interested :)
I use facial cleansing oil for washing my real technique makeup sponge and it works really well. Every now and then I'll use it for deep cleaning my makeup brushes too.
oh ok thanks very much. Just as I have a sleek luminous powder that came with the fluffy/furry one and i've just always wondered if or how to clean it without ruining it as it can't stay brown full of powder forever lol but I think suggesting a cleanser is probably better due to the texture it x x
You can buy the Shu oil at most department stores (in Canada that would be The Bay, Holt Renfrew etc) or you can probably order online. However you dont have to use something so expensive, any water emulsifying cleansing oil will work, this one just happened to be what I had on hand.
+evvy abba she said in the vid that essential oils do not emulsify hence not as effective as cleansing oil would be. i agree tho :) you can just grab biore's which is imo the cheapest cleansing oil ive found so far in the market
+evvy abba Jojoba oil is a natural oil and it won't emusify so you'll have to use more soap to wash away the oil which defeats the whole purpose. I recommend just buying a cheap drugstore cleansing oil as long as it emulsifies well, it doesn't matter what brand it is.
+Zhey Kawaguchi Baby oil does not emulsify the way cleansing oils do so you'll have to use soap to wash out the baby oil and it's probably more work than what it's worth in my opinion.
You could but most brush cleaners require you to do some kind of "scrubbing" to remove the makeup and from my experience it just doesn't seem to work as well for puffs like these. You want to be really delicate with these. Although, try the brush cleaner and let me know how it goes.
Do the cheap bitch method. use bar soap..... it removes all the makeup perfectly and makes it look brand new. Seeing all the foundation come out is AMAZING. I clean all my brushes every Sunday just to keep them nice and clean😉👌
That's what I had used before watching this video... I used facial soap though, so it wouldn't be as harsh. But I don't see why you couldn't use soap and water~
Instructions starts at 2:02
thank you!!! i was using cleansing foam to rinse those cushion sponges!! but i ll try cleansing oils tooo-!! thanks for the good tips
So simple & smart! I got fed up & did something similar w my stipple brush & some micellar water. Came out like brand new & I felt like a genius lol
Melissa OOOOOO micellar water! I haven't not tried that one. Thanks for the tip :D

i never thought that cleansing oil will effectively clean the sponge. Thank you so much to share this info. it really helps. like a lot...
+Abebekable Good luck!
how often should you clean it? Every time you use or until a few more uses? Sorry it's my first time using it so I don't really know. thanks 😊
Sorry, I know I'm commenting late, but I would say it's ok to use the sponge a couple of times before washing it, unless you're prone to break outs, then I'd say wash it every time
Oh ok. thank you.
That's very helpful, thank you! The only other way I have seen on RUclips is to use bar soap :) but cleansing oil is easier to come buy nowadays
***** I've seen the soap versions as well and it just seems to take a long time to get it really clean!
PBunnieP I'm definitely going to try out your cleansing oil method this weekend :)
Too much talk, I skipped straight to the part then actual cleaning actually happened 🤔😂
right

You look great in this video! Thanks for the tip!
Can I use heimish cleansing balm or any brush balm?
So simple, yet helpful! Thanks
great video! would this work for a powder puff like the jane iredale one?
gupkets If you're talking the very thick velour ones I'd use a foaming cleanser for that because you can rub and squeeze them without much worry. CC/BB Cushion sponges usually are delicate and can't handle the same type of rubbing so I find this works well.
can you do a video on your favorite cç cushions or the battle of the cç cushions, taht would include which would be good for certain skin types?
TheAznDoDo I don't feel like I've tried enough cushion products to really give a comprehensive video on this one. So far I've only tried the Iope, Laneige, Makeon Cushion. There's reviews for all of them up on my blog if you are interested :)
PBunnieP Innisfree also do amazing cushions, the Ampoule Intense is my HG :) And it's very pale too!
Can i use others brands of Cleansing oil instead of Shu Uemera? TQ!
Of course! As long as its an emulsifying cleansing oil, it doesn't matter what brand it is.
can i substitute the cleansing oil with cleansing gel?
Do you think that would work for the beauty blender?
Sharyn Helene Henderson GREAT question! I've never thought about that. I will give it a try and report back :)
PBunnieP This is how I wash all my sponges and brushes. It works quite effectively.
I use facial cleansing oil for washing my real technique makeup sponge and it works really well. Every now and then I'll use it for deep cleaning my makeup brushes too.
It does! :) That's how I clean mine :)
Thanks!
can this work for the more fluffy puffs? not the large ones but compact size
Yes it will but I find the compact fluffy puffs clean just fine with regular cleanser/brush cleanser so its' not necessary to use the oil method.
oh ok thanks very much. Just as I have a sleek luminous powder that came with the fluffy/furry one and i've just always wondered if or how to clean it without ruining it as it can't stay brown full of powder forever lol but I think suggesting a cleanser is probably better due to the texture it x x
what would be an example of a cheaper easy to find emulsifying cleansing oil?
Can I use lip&eye makeup remover? It's oil-based too.
You would be using A LOT of it to fully saturate the sponge and I'm not sure how well it will rinse off.
Can I use coconut oil as cleansing oil?
hi just want to ask where to buy this cleansing oil ?
You can buy the Shu oil at most department stores (in Canada that would be The Bay, Holt Renfrew etc) or you can probably order online. However you dont have to use something so expensive, any water emulsifying cleansing oil will work, this one just happened to be what I had on hand.
I dont have cleansing oil but jojoba oil itself is that fine?
+evvy abba she said in the vid that essential oils do not emulsify hence not as effective as cleansing oil would be. i agree tho :) you can just grab biore's which is imo the cheapest cleansing oil ive found so far in the market

how to buy Shu Emura cleansing oil??
I'll try cleansing oil! Every time I wash my compact sponges they fall apart!
can i use just LIQUID soap and water?
*use
Sure you could but I found this to be the quickest and more thorough cleaning method.
Looks brand new :)
is it ok to use makeup remover?
You'll be using a whole lot of makeup remover to saturate the cushion sponge but technically yes.
can i substitute it w baby oil?
+Zhey Kawaguchi Baby oil does not emulsify the way cleansing oils do so you'll have to use soap to wash out the baby oil and it's probably more work than what it's worth in my opinion.
thanks for d video! very helpful 😘
Why my sponge has white dots after cleaning..
It shouldn't. Either there's still makeup on it or it's a low quality sponge - I've never had that happen yet.
why can't we use a normal make up brush cleaner?
You could but most brush cleaners require you to do some kind of "scrubbing" to remove the makeup and from my experience it just doesn't seem to work as well for puffs like these. You want to be really delicate with these. Although, try the brush cleaner and let me know how it goes.
Very helpful! Thank you
Thank u that was so helpful.
WONDERFUL TUTORIAL
Thank you!
That ISO very helpful
THANK YOU FOR GREAT INFO
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARIG YOU HAVE A GREAT EVENING AND I WILL C U N YOUR NEXT VIDEO XOXO
Do the cheap bitch method.
use bar soap..... it removes all the makeup perfectly and makes it look brand new. Seeing all the foundation come out is AMAZING. I clean all my brushes every Sunday just to keep them nice and clean😉👌
Emma bar soap doesnt work for any type of cushion puff. it works for my missha but doesnt work for my hera puff
Adding that I just tried this on my Missha "M Magic Cushion" sponge and...RIP Missha cushion. Definitely worse quality than the IOPE ones.
LIFE SAVOR!!!! THANKS **
Or u just need to use a silicon sponge instead...
I've tried those and don't like them very much, i definitely still prefer the regular cushion puffs.
Can I use water and soap?
That's what I had used before watching this video... I used facial soap though, so it wouldn't be as harsh. But I don't see why you couldn't use soap and water~
