      I have the raw aluminum one also. I'm fine with it. It's buried in the back of the engine bay. One can hardly see it. If is were up in the front or higher up I probably would have spent the extra $100 for the black coating so it would have matched the black PPE charge air cooler I have already installed. I'm just happy it's going to catch the oil vapor now and keep it out the turbo and charge air cooler. That's what is most important

    Nice video. Only thing I would recommend is showing some closeups especially where that preformed hose connection is if that’s even possible. It looks like a really well thought out design. I wonder if the 1 psi bypass would eventually get gummed up with residue? Does VSE say anything about maintenance besides drain intervals?

    Interesting product and very informative. I know very little about diesel engines and puzzled by one thing. What drives the design requirements/philosophy differences of diesel vs. gas engines where the small gas turbos (in Ford or Toyota trucks and SUV’s) do not consume any noticeable oil even under normal towing situations and one never needs to add oil in between changes (at least as far as I am aware in an engine with no mechanical issues) but its pretty much a given with these Duramax 3.0 and other diesel engines? Hopefully you can shed some light on this for me as to why a gas turbo doesn’t consume so much or any oil vs a diesel. I just cant wrap my head around engines in this day and age using so much oil as “normal” yet very interested in this engine for my future purchase. As always, great content.

    Now that i actually have my oil catch can from VSE the issue has been finding time to get it installed. I have a friend who is a diesel mechanic for a Chevrolet dealership and he usually takes care of my Duramax needs at his house. After watching this video I'm thinking about doing this install myself. I just wish VSE had released their catch can before my friend installed the PPE charge air cooler I now have installed on my motor. I'm sure that there is some oil residue inside of now and it would be nice if there wasn't any at all.

      I just got mine delivered a few weeks ago and finally installed it today. You can do it at home without much trouble... I didn't have the specialized tools and yes the clips were a little difficult. aside from the catch can mine is completely stock and there's not a whole lot of room to work in there. I'd suggest putting a little bit of Dawn soap on each of the rubber hoses to assist sliding them on. The most difficult is the J hose. The key is having the clips oriented correctly so you can easily get to them.

      I’m only at 3k miles in my 24 AT4, but I’m experiencing similar. Was averaging about 350 miles for regen for a while, and now it’s dropped to 248 for me. May 16, 2024 Update: After install started truck and drove out of garage and parked pickup, no issues. First drive was a 700 mile trip with my Rmax2 in my dump trailer from Idaho to Sacramento over the Sierra Nevada. Somewhere along the trip got a CEL. Banks iDash won't read or clear the code but in stored codes it shows P04DB. Checked hoses and I don't see any obvious leaks etc. and truck runs fine. Now that I made it to my destination I will have a couple days to check it out more and drive around without the trailer in tow before trip back over same route on the 22nd.
    May 13, 2024 Installed yesterday on my 2020 Sierra LM2. I was able to do it with new adjustable HF pliers no problem. The LM2 is a bit different as there is a power wire with silver heat reflective material inline with the hoses as they connect to the can. I cut the ziptie holding the wire to add flexibility and ran the wire between the hoses. At the back of the can there is a sensor in the heater hose that is close to the can when installed. I plan to remove the passenger side wheel and fender liner for better access and see if I can tie the hose away from the can a little to prevent chafing.
    Interesting observation, when I disconnected the stock hose from the turbo there was no sign of any oil. This is different than Greg's experience and my truck has 55,000 miles on it!

    Why would the manufacturer not build the motor with one of these and include the catch can as stock to the truck?

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  5 месяцев назад +3

      I personally think it’s because most owners wouldn’t have a clue on what to do and now you are creating a situation for the owner to have waste oil in their possession which now must be disposed of properly. Us truck/car folk are ok with those extra things, but many people like zero maintenance.

    • @derichhofmann4667
      @derichhofmann4667 5 месяцев назад +1

      And it would be an extra cost to the manufacturer that isn’t necessary to keep the engine operating throughout the warranty period which they already seem to barely care about. They don’t care about your vehicle’s long term performance, maintenance costs, or lifespan. They care about selling you new vehicles and new parts when the warranty is over. Planned obsolescence benefits them, not you. These catch cans are for the long term benefit of your engine and downstream emissions system.

    Just installed mine. Ended up going and buying the hose clamp pliers. Worth the price after trying with the wrong ones for an hour or so.
    The lm2 has wires coming off the battery that kinda get in the way but we shall see

      I installed mine last week. Haven't noticed any difference yet, but it's only been 100 miles.
      Have you noticed any oil or water in your catch can?

    I recently received my catch can and I have a problem. There are no instructions for the LM2 only the LZO. The hose configuration is totally different than the LZO. Has anyone else found the installation instructions for the LM2??

      The hose configuration is identical, it’s the same camshaft cover. Are you certain you are looking at the correct hoses to attach to?

      @@DemonWorks you connected your hoses at the firewall under the cowl, There are no hoses to connect to there on my 2022.5 LM2.

      @@billm6850mine were connected to the hose coming off the camshaft cover for one. The other hose connected to the turbo where that prior hose was connected to. Nothing is connected to the firewall.

      I think you misunderstood me not connecting to the firewall. Anyway thanks for your replies I just wasn’t seeing the hose with the powder blue hose clamp. I paused your video and saw you releasing the powder blue clamp.

      @@billm6850yeah, I’m unsure on what is misunderstood with the install. The camshaft cover is the exact same from 20-24 and this catch can will attach to that exact same hose.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  5 месяцев назад

      First thing I would suggest is to check your valve to make sure the lever is not open. The red lever should be at 90 degrees to the hose. If the lever is inline with the hose, then it is open and you will get that code. Just a suggestion.

    Why don't car manufactures include this in a $ 40,000 vehicle ??

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  5 месяцев назад

      most people cannot even handle taking the vehicle in for maintenance let alone drain a container. Then they have waste oil to dispose of, this is for the 1% that truly care about their vehicle.

    Are the LZO engines using oil? Burning oil? I am thinking about buying one,just don’t want to buy one that does that. My dually with a HO Cummins doesn’t burn oil.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  4 месяца назад

      all 3.0 duramax engines have the possibility of using oil based on the pcv system design. The HO Cummins is made for a very different use than a 3.0 duramax.
