Why did the writers make it so that every time a girl lost her virginity it seemed to ruin her life? Paris and her Harvard ‘I’m a whore’ freakout, Rory and married Dean, and this for Lane!! So horrible for all three and arguably completely out of character for each of them - but I think they did Lane’s character the worst :(
I’m not talking about Lane’s motherhood, I’m talking about the show’s presentation of losing virginity. Sure, it didn’t actually ruin Lane’s life - Paris’ and Rory’s lives weren’t literally ruined by losing their virginity either. The point is it FELT life-ruining to each girl in the moment (or i guess more ‘character ruining’ in rory’s case), which is what I think is unfair. Lane had “horrible horrible sex” ONCE and had to pay for it with her life’s dreams - not life-ruining necessarily, but still a crazily harsh choice from the writers, no? She could have at least ENJOYED losing her virginity imo 😭
I think that's because of the time the show was on. Sex for a GIRL has to be a huge wild, romantic and life altering thing. I think if it was airing now and they changed nothing, the Paris meltdown would have had HUGE backlash(but damn that scene was performed great), Rory would have been held SLIGHTLY accountable for her bad choices especially cheating on/with others, and the backlash for doing this to Lane's character would have been just as big as Paris'. I think it's just the writers didn't know what to do with Lane. Wish her Paris and Rory became roommates...that could have given the show 4 more seasons worth of awesome content easy!
@@katymvt it can ruin many women's lives, that is not for you to decide. not everyone is cut out for habing children, as we see in all those sad and broken souls who experiences child neglect, abuse and other traumas. my first instint was to feel sad when lane got pregnant. she deserved to have more time to figure herself and life out and THEN decide if she really WANTS it
Me too. And I've heard the argument that "it wouldn't be realistic for her to become a rock star," but I still would have loved to have seen her become music vlogger, or to have seen them land a job writing jingles or. . .teaching the history of rock music at the local high school, or something. :( Or even for her to eventually have mentioned that she and Zach had developed a better sex life after having gotten pregnant from such a profoundly unpleasant encouter. Any little crumb would have helped!
Lane and Zach never made sense to me. I hated them together. I get that she was supposed to be with Dave, and that got scrapped because of the actor, but Zach? ugh... they were not good together.
@@dayschange2 right? As if life is over at 20... I would have liked a divorced Lane with 2 kids co parenting and rocking, she could have been in the music bizz
I wish Lane had gone to college after the band broke up to study music. She'd have met up with Henry again who was doing part time tutoring work. Then they decide to try again and in AYITL Rory was coming back for the wedding. Lane would be a music techer at Chilton and Henry became a doctor. Then they found out they were pregnant and decided to buy the grandparents house when Emily moves. Thats the endgame I wanted for Lane.
Why couldn't Lane be a mother and a music teacher? We could have seen her being a music blogger or something along that. Also if the writers wanted realistic was abortion not an option?
Considering Lane's ultra Christian background, she doesn't seem like the type who would ever consider abortion. Its more realistic that she didn't get one. But yeah, she still could have been a teacher or something. Its like her whole story ended once she became a mother which is so sad.
Freedom? She got married to a guy she wanted, nobody forced her, she got pregnant and became a mom. How much you guys hate the most natural stuff that comes from people doing stuff on free will is weird. You wanted her to be what? A chick in a mediocre band that makes no money, so she can become some kind of tramp?
Lane should have been the one to go to yale and duke it out with Paris. Lory shld have married Dean and the show shld have been about her living and working in a small town. She would have been more successful than she was. Lane would have made something of her at Yale.
Putting Lane and Zack together was as bad as having Luke and Lorelai as a couple, neither fit. Lane should have joined a band, became lead drummer, went on tour. Not got saddled with Zach and twins.
It was her choice. You are all acting like shes a victim. She married and became a mom...what a horribile fate to people who live in a twisted, selfish, hedonistic world I guess. What did you wanted her to do? Kill her 2 children because this wasnt right for her timing but she was ready enough to have sex? People should take this more serious. Would avoid alot of drama.
Never liked lane. She always tried to put her mom in a bad light when, in reality, all she wanted was the best for her child and to be healthy. Her and rory are the worst on the show.

Becoming a mother is not ruining her life.
I'm not clear on how getting pregnant ruined her life?

I loathed the endgame for Lane. The character deserved better.

It was fate. In regardless of her life choices, based on what her mother said, she was most likely going to get pregnant on her first time.
She was supposed to. She and Dave were endgame planned but he never returned to GG after the O.C. 😢 and she had to start with Zack...

i'll never forgive the writers for what they did to this character. she deserved what she wanted, more than anyone else
Poor Lane, that experience was her first time, newly married and she gets pregnant immediately WITH TWINS.
Well, that miracle was meant to happen then.
Luke’s face when he tries the cocktail
Not only she got pregnant after doing it one time, but she got pregnant of twins. She and Zack were on fire😂
I love Lane, she's one of the most - if not _the most_ - loveable characters in the whole series! 😄😄😄😎😎😎
JUSTICE FOR LANE
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Thats the story of Gilmore Girls.

Exactly :( it's not like you can't be a mom and have a career. Sure, it's hard but not impossible
@@queencleopatra007 Plus that would have made her super unlikeable and a terrible way to end her character arc.
Ok, I hate whoever wrote this
I've never understood why these two didn't keep trying. Just because the first time was bad doesn't mean it wont get better.
Justice for Lane!! I wish she had freedom.

I think Lorelai and Luke made a great couple and look at what happened in the end with the spin off, A year in the life- they got married ❤
Wow….so many downers with Lane’s pregnancy. At least she’s married and this is actually a realistic issue that happens. Like life!
Michael Jackson named a child "Blanket"?
Shallow Hal is good. Also Up In The Air is good too.
Up In The Air has no Gwyneth Paltrow. The one she played stewardess is View From The Top
Gosh, Luke’s sister was such a mess…
lane is pregnant? cool
Haven't you watched the series yet???

Lane's mom was unhinged and extremely controlling. Smh
did we watch the same show?
