Thank you for sharing! The first trimester is weirdly isolating- anxiety, not feeling the best, and still hiding it from most of the world. It’s helpful to hear your experience and emotions!

I can’t get out of bed until midday and feel nauseated the whole morning - JUST not enough to vomit thank God - and the constipation/fatigue is so hard to stay on top of 🤧. I’m feeling a little fatigued, I’ve been drinking a lot of freshly squeezed orange juice which has helped immensely. By the Grace of God any abdominal pain I was feeling has completely subsided. I’ve been experiencing light bloating and nausea but personally these symptoms are very easy for me to overlook because I’m just so excited to be pregnant and to be a mother. It’s the biggest blessing and an absolute miracle. I feel so fortunate and so very blessed, all thanks to God and my husband. I was looking for a First Trimester video and decided to watch yours and I found it a little funny when you said that you and your husband decided to cancel your wedding and honeymoon when you find out that you were pregnant. I hadn’t even finished our guest list yet when I realized that I wanted to be pregnant instead! Thank you for such an informative video Marta!

Not a planned pregnancy, but we have been together a decade and love each other so much it seemed like it would be an injustice if we ever had the chance and didn’t keep it. Hi Doc, just subscribed. Love your short and sweet format for providing education! Glad your first tri was manageable. I was 24/7 nauseated for the first 20 weeks of my only pregnancy.. Diclectin didn't touch it. Since I wasn't vomiting my midwife just said I'd have to tolerate it. I was really miserable, hardly slept and it impacted my work (I'm a veterinarian). This vlog gives me hope that a subsequent pregnancy may be better.
Will be watching your vlogs discussing COVID and pregnancy! I'm early 30's and trying to weigh risks of delaying pregnancy versus COVID risk. Would love to see a vlog on advanced maternal age if you ever got around to it!

Thank you Dr. Perez, looking forward to that video! I am leaning towards an OB for intrapartum care for next pregnancy rather than a midwife. Here in Ontario, Canada low-risk moms can choose one or the other. I also developed Bell's palsy at 39 week and there was a delay in treatment because midwives cannot prescribe. I also felt that the midwife I had was very anti-epidural during my labour, even though I indicated prior to labour that I was completely comfortable with that form of analgesia. I was one of the many women who needed the epidural to relax and progress.. my dilation went so quick once epidural was given, and stage 2 of labour was fast and smooth. I feel like I suffered a lot more with the pain than I had to.

It's true that each pregnancy is just different! I've had three and each was just it's own experience. First one was pretty average nausea that cleared up at 10 wks. 2nd one was my easiest, only about a week or two of food aversions, wanted vinegar constantly - stereotypical pickle cravings. 3rd one...THE WORST! I was SO sick and vomiting daily until 15-16 weeks and b6/unisom didn't touch it. The protein advice helped on that one, had to eat some bland protein every two hours to stay ahead of the vomit. I carried a pocketful of almonds everywhere. And then when I could eat again I had heartburn like mad until the end and the old wives tale didn't hold true, since that baby was my only bald baby! One pregnancy I craved McDonald's fries, another I could have inhaled an entire salad bar. Obviously this could be in my head, but my baby's temperaments also totally aligned with the pregnancy difficulty. The average one was average, the easy pregnancy was my suuuper chill and happy baby that slept like a dream, and now my difficult AF pregnancy is now a 5mo that doesn't sleep and had colic, so maybe you'll have a very mellow baby!

I didn't want to tell anyone about my pregnancy until I saw the sonogram and heard that heartbeat. I just assumed I would miscarry because it's so common, but we got lucky. During my first trimester I had nausea all the time but not enough to throw up. I got food aversion from looking at recipes online (which is half of my Facebook/RUclips feed) and cooking was nauseating at times; but once it came to eat, I could. Only thing I couldn't stomach was eggs and shrimp. Looking back, I'm so relieved I didn't vomit.

My mouth is full of canker sores and I can barely eat anything I have food aversions but I also have crazy cravings and the only thing I can eat are my cravings I feel Like when my sugar levels go down the nausea hits me really hard so I had to drink a little bit of soda or have a candy and almost immediately It gets better. With my previous two pregnancies I had A little bit of nausea and put a versions but the song is just the worst of them all I’m currently six weeks pregnant and I’m hoping the time is going to fly and I’m gonna feel better soon. I’m also getting a lot more yeast infections and a lot of spotting that I didn’t have in my previous two pregnancies. I just watched another video and apparently if you’re older the symptoms will hit you harder I don’t know how true that is but I am 38 years old so yes I think I am in the older side and yes I am experiencing the symptoms more now than when I was younger. I'm about 8 weeks pregnant... I have some Chinese food and it set off my morning sickness so terrible I thought I had food poisoning.
I'm still struggling with it... And I never thought that this would be so miserable, isolating, emotionally draining, physically draining and so on.
Just a couple of things that I've learned yogurt is a NO. JELLO IS A NO. And basically water has not been my best friend..
My remedy now for my sickness has been ramen noodles dry crushed up and shaken up in the bag with the seasoning.
The saltine crackers I can't stomach... But the ramen noodles with ginger ale has been helpful...
Rice has also been my best friend... I'm on medication but I've been trying to get off of it and I'm going to play around a little bit more with foods and see what I can do but definitely try it out

Is benadryl similar enough to unisom to be used instead?

    • @dr.martaperez
      @dr.martaperez  3 года назад +2

I'm not aware that robust research has been done on 1. how well benadryl relieves nausea and 2. extensively taking it daily in pregnancy. I'm not concerned about safety in taking it now and then like for allergies, etc, but not sure it's a great daily nausea med.

how could you not know how far along you are as a doctor plus when you are trying :)

Very possible. I had a period that was a little lighter than the last one, but i also had light ones on and off ever since puberty. My blood test show i am between 7 and 9 weeks, where if i count it is only 5 to 6 weeks since lmp.
Even as a doc you may not know how far along you are unless you tested even with the last light period

Calling your baby a “parasite “ isn’t funny. Also, not making any effort to get in fresh fruit or veggies even if you have to blend them up in the blender and drink them down, is doing a huge disservice to this vital time of your growing baby.
