- For this week's Saturday Versus Video I thought I would compare the more affordable Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence with the wildly popular holy grail SK-II Facial Treatment Essence. I've used both of these off and on for quite some time, and I actually really like both of these for different reasons. The Cosrx isn't so expensive that applying this with a cotton ball after cleansing feels nice and hydrating, and isn't so expensive that I don't feel guilty that the cotton ball absorbs more of the product than my skin does.
The SK-II Facial Treatment feels nice and luxe and I apply this by patting it on my skin after cleansing. It is super light and absorbs quickly, this makes my following serum feel ultra hydrating as well. I do like the more bare-bones formula, especially for sensitive skin.

I think people "holy grail" the sk-ii and La mer bc of the hype and the outrageous prices.
I do think that if they charged half the price for the SK-II that it's possible some people wouldn't like it as much. It's crazy how two products so similar can have a $70 price difference.

I went through a 30 ml bottle of the SK-ll and also compared it to the Cosrx Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence. I did not enjoy the Sk-ll at all! It reminded me of a Clinique toner with alcohol and I found it not hydrating and slightly irritating at times. I LOVE the COSRX and am on ky 3rd bottle! 😁
I'd love for you to add another score for formula elegance and results. I found the SK-ll watery and the COXRX was thicker and felt really soothing and hydrating. After using 30 ml SK-ll, the only result I saw was brightening. The COSRX did that too, but was also very hydrating and I believe it has helped with skin texture, too.
I really want to try the COSRX Essence. This was super helpful. You always do such an amazing job at giving fantastic info.

As always, wonderful review. Loving the new way you’re breaking up your videos! I have to admit, I am a huge fan of SKII (pronounced S-K-2). I’ve been using it for a year daily, and my skin is glowing. I’ve tried to cut myself off but I can’t! Lol. I only buy it during the Sephora 20% off sale. I’m so curious about the Cosrx now.

cosrx is my first Kskincare, its never made me dissapointed until now. when im trying to another Kskincare or change to others its just not as good as cosrx. im totally in love with cosrx

unfortunately i have to disagree
i have used 2 bottle of 330ml of SKII and 2 bottle of cosrx (due to budget)..
after trying cosrx for several months , i revert completely back to SK2
for SK2 after you stop.. several weeks and when u restart the SKII regime.. u do notice immediate hydration with just 2 usages...
but cosrx do not have such effect.. even with higher percentage.
i always believe , same ingredient can have different quality..
Just like same red wine but there are different quality.
also buying big bottle is way more affordable than 75ml :D

I personally have tried a few dupes of SK-II FTE before indulging into spending so much for an SK-II essence, and I would say SK-II is almost irreplaceable for me. I have tried out innisfree's soybean essence, tonymoly's galactomyces essence, and none of the dupes are equally as good as SK-II for me.
That's great that you've found something that obviously works so nicely for you, many people feel the same and it's definitely an HG product for so many. 😁 When something works so well I personally think it's well worth spending a little more and being happy.

Oh, thank you so much! :-) I've got a lot of schooling (master's degree and then some) but no education specifically when it comes to cosmetics. I just love to read and research things. It all really began when I had a skin photo analysis done at a dermatolagist office where they pointed out my skin was aging much fast then it should, I started becoming interested in fixing what I could, and preventing any further aging. It's kind of become my passion, thought of going to school for dermatology but not sure my family is ready for me to go back to school all over again. 🤔🤔🤔

i already using for a while Cosrx hyaluronic acid cream and essence and i love it, i have very dry skin and it helps a lot. It is very light and can make few layers and has no scent. Few days ago i ordered Ultra moisturizing lotion and Rice overnight spa mask, hehe i am ready for winter!
I love their rice overnight mask, even better now that they're changing the packaging to a tube. Cosrx has a lot of gems in their product lineup.
Thanks for the upload! It's very helpful for us who trying to cut back spending. SK-II works like magic for my skin - specifically getting rid of my adult acne - so I'm a bit worried to change into different brand. Hopefully this COSRX won't trigger any allergic reaction.
FYI, for those who interested in trying SK-II moisturizer, their RNA Power actually trigger eczema-looking mini-rash. So I'm using Laneige Waterbank instead and those works miracle with slightly cheaper price.

The one nice thing is that there's really nothing in the sk-II that still damage your skin, unlike a of of other bad products out there... Definitely will do, thank you for the great idea! 😀😀

Skll had the galactomiese patent so that why they could charge do much for their secret ingredient but now other brands are using that ingredient they don't really have any good excuse for keeping the price so high it's £170 for full size skll essence which is ridiculous
The cosrx one wa rated vegan and clean beauty on soko glam, so its safe for us muslim women, I want to try it!

What are your thoughts on the Fresh Black Tea essence compared to these 2 products?
I would rank the Fresh Essence up there, I like that they included tea since it's a good antioxidant, however, if you have sensitive skin I wouldn't recommend it due to the amount of fragrance Fresh included in it. I do like that Fresh included antioxidants that have proven research instead of just anecdotal recommendations (like the Pitera). It's a good Essence worth giving a try if you don't have sensitive skin.

I’m going to try the Cosrx brand... been looking for a SKII
I like SK-II but its way too much $$ I had a teeny tiny sample. Just felt like plain water but noticed my face was softer. I think it should be in a mist bottle for that price, putting it on a cotton pad kinda wastes it imo
might give Cosrx a try or buy a bottle of Sakè and soak my face in it 😂
Lol- well if SK-II is good Sake has to be better, 😀 definitely pick up the CosRX, hopefully next week there will be some good beauty sales!

Personally I love the Manyo products but Kranicell also looks really interesting because it has an even more extensive list of ingredients. Like Missha and Manyo it seems a bit more luxurious than some of the other ones. COSRX and Benton seem a bit more liquidy but still have the Niacinamide and the Purito ones I am waiting to receive.

I've noticed that, especially on some of the kbeauty sites. But I'm not sure why, an Essence really isn't expensive to make but why the price would decline is beyond me. 🤔🤔

@@alislater1486 not really I just use after cleanse and acid tone, gently patted into the skin with my hands, my skin loves the hydrating feel of this. I am a more mature lass so I love the consistency of this lovely essence as opposed to the more watery versions of essence (don't get me wrong I still enjoy these but really enjoy the consistency of this) then I proceed with my treatment/serum. Love it. Unfortunately, May Coop is a little harder to access here in New Zealand but with diligent tracking down it can be done xxxx have a great day xx

Oooh I love the AmorePacific Essence, it's pricey but I've went through many of the little sample bottles I've gotten as GWP and I'm sets. The nice thing is that their main ingredient is a proven she researched antioxidant.

I've used them both but haven't really compared the two- great idea- I will definitely have to do this for a versus! I know I like them both so it might be a tricky comparison. 🤔😀

A dermatologist just posted a RUclips paid video promoting SK-II. SMH. Would you do an updated video to include any other products with Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate that you have reviewed in the last 2 years?
That is a great idea- going to have to do that! Hadn't thought of this before- There are so many other good products with the ferment that don't cost several hundred dollars. The paid promotions is seriously getting out of hand- they are showing up everywhere- even reddit - makes it so difficult for people to know what is real these days and what is fake...

I like the Missha Essence, the only thing I didn't like is the inclusion of acetic acid at the end, I wonder why you have issues with Niacinamide? At least the SK-II works well for you, and the nice thing is a little goes a long way!
I thought there was a specal ingredient "Pitera" in the SK-11 that was the reason for the price point??
carol newlands did you watch the video? This was explained. “Pitera” is just SK-II’s marketing name for Galactomyces. The CosRX contains plenty of galactomyces. This is why these two products are being compared in the first place. Hope that helped.

There's a reason the SKII sells one bottle every minute- so many people love it and no matter how many brands try and make a dupe of it they just can't quite make an option that is as loved as the original SKII Essence.
Same goes with estee lauder advanced night repair serum. So many brands such as missha, secret key and others(cannot remember the names) tried to duplicate it but most people who have tried the estee lauder said those serums don’t feel and work on their skin. Probably quality plays a huge role here because same ingredients don’t mean same quality.
