I started seeing the ads for this product, people using a full bottle and showing before and after pictures. I have to admit I didn't see a significant change in the "after" pictures on most of the ads. If I'm going to spend this kind of money, I would schedule a visit to my dermatologist and pay for a prescription product.... one that has proven data. There are so many products that can add hydration for much less money. I've been using the Etude House Soonjung Relief Toner. It is such a lovely, hydrating product that makes my skin so soft. And, for much less money!!

'Really good but not worth the money' is SK-II summed up precisely. I've tried it, my skin loved it and became so much more brighter and hydrated. Then I tried Missha Time Revolution and my skin became even brighter! I've since tried I'm From rice toner and Missha Time Revolution Artemisia and I will never go back to SK-II because significantly cheaper alternatives suit my skin just fine.

I guess everyone's skin condition is different. My main issue is melasma. Hydroquinone does not work for me. I've tried Cosrx, Misssha & Purito's Galactomyces essences - none of them has worked. I tried each brand for at least a year every night to decide if it works. I've since been using SKII for almost a year now, I would say my melasma is a little better. I'm told it's almost impossible to cure melasma, they come and go, you can only try to lighten them a bit. Since SKII is really expensive, I'm still thinking if I should continue using it after i've finished the bottle. Or try tranexamic acid instead. I have to say I do feel a big difference of using SKII compared to other Galactomyces essences. I believe concentration matters. Age also plays a part I guess - older people will feel the difference. People who are younger than 50 need not to waste money on SKII.

I am all for influencers getting paid for sponsorship as long as they give honest reviews. Sometimes I really get the vibe that they are giving scripted reviews. It’s like they have never mentioned the product before and now they are saying they have loved the products for years. I also think anyone that photoshops results is a true con. James Welsh can catch a filter so quick!! I have to trust the influencers I support! ♥️ you xxxooo

    • @cv7958
      @cv7958 2 года назад +1

I don’t necessarily think you had to have used a product for 5+ years/promote ones that already preexist in your routine. If that is the case, great. But a sponsored post with this criteria is few and far between. It’s not realistic. Content creators need to make a livable income. What I am not ok with is if they take on a sponsorship that normally goes against their ethos. If, however, a product or brand wasn’t originally on their radar but the company reached out and the influencer did their due diligence by looking up the legitimacy of the company and genuinely tested the products on their own, then that’s fine. The idea that, “I’ve been using Cerave for years and they’ve reached out to me to sponsor this post…” is extremely rare. If you only have a 5 step skincare routine and only 1 company of the 5 you use reaches out to you to sponsor, is that a sustainable channel? Not likely. I remember a decade ago when there was a lot of pushback on sponsorships in general. Is it great if you promote something with no sponsorship? Of course! It eliminates bias. But is it a sustainable living for content creators? No. There needs to be balance.

I must admit to not having tried SK-II as it is not the sort of price I am comfortable paying for a single skin care product. I do however use Galactomyces ferment filtrate in the form of Secret Key's Starting treatment essence and am very pleased with the hydrating and soothing effects. I do feel it is making a difference to my skin. whether it is this product or whether it is just that it helps to improve the effects of what is put on after I do not honestly know but it is now a firm staple of mine.

I actually bought it because of sponsored contents (Dr Shereene Idriss) and I have not seen any difference. My skin is good, so I wouldn’t see much difference anyway cause I have a strong routine. So I’m pretty doubtful when I see these very good skin people saying they have seen dramatic changes. Even tretinoin does not give crazy results in good skin, you just maintain it. It’s an ok product, but I won’t be repurchasing.

Ah the famous sk2 essence. My mom and I never bought into its hype. We prefered Cetaphil and Guerlain. Once drug store to the core and the other bougie at its finest 😂 My dad once bought Sk2 instead of the Guerlain super aqua lotion we specifically asked for. He was so proud and smug, so sure he did a good job. Unfortunately for him it was not appreciated.

  • @thescarletgraywitch8052

I have no problem with sponsored content when it is done right. What I do not like is the labeling of a product "viral" or "taking the internet by storm" when it's too often not the quality or results of the product that are bringing the success. I suppose I just have an issue with any brand's sponsoring their way into a "viral" product. I also think that this oversatuation can have some negative consequences. For example: now so&so has paid for their product to go viral, but what if it IS an amazing product? I feel they've alienated many consumers because we don't know if the product really is that good, or if it's paid hype. (I can think of a couple popular products right now I'd like to try, but I worry about wasting money on something that turns out to be just average, nothing special, or even actually a fail. So, I tend to wait out buying new cosmetics and such until the initial craziness dies down, but FOMO can be real!)
I also feel it can encourage content creators to step over the line of what is honest because perhaps they now feel they should be exhibiting the results the other 50 sponsors seemed to achieve so they resort to fudging the results with filters.
It's as much up to brands as it is creators to maintain some control over the message, and to be sure that all are kept honest. Being open about being sponsored like James Welsh, choosing a few creators who do genuinely enjoy the product to sponsor, diligently maintaining quality control of the "advertisements" created in the product's name takes effort, but I think brands are playing with fire when they slip.
Send out 50,000 PR packages if that's what someone wants to do. The fact is in today's climate if your product is good (or even great) it will take off on an honest push instead of trying to saturate social media platforms with unrealistic claims, dishonesty, manipulation, and labels that could leave a product a flash in the pan anyways. Oh dear, I seem to have written a novel. 😬

I got it with the Neogen Real Ferment Micro serum, which is just a bit heavy for my combo/oily sensitive acne prone skin. I use it sometimes on my hands (I won't preach about anti aging care for hands lol). I am currently doing well with the Benton Snail Bee and Isntree Green Tea Fresh lines (aaaand at least a few other products in rotation). Of course, I'm always keeping my eyes open for "miracle" products containing no AHA's to completely rid myself of acne! I'm happy I found you on SV, and I'll keep checking in on your channel! 💖

I am not against influencers taking on sponsorships at all as from a personal perspective I think I am quite marketing savvy and a good reader of body language. Also I do not hang onto any one influencers opinions but seek out views from others to get a more balanced view. So "I think" I have built in protection and take it for what it is.
The majority of influencers are not hard core business people and rely on employing managers to take away some of that associated stress and I think in some cases the influencer has become no more than a front to the business. To me it is plainly obvious that some highly respected influencers have also been manipulated by some skincare brands which I doubt they would recognise or acknowledge themselves. That is the power behind the science, and the ultimate aim of successful marketing.
In your case Rob you have in the past recommended brands and then at a later date discovered further information or called out the same brands for shady practices. We all learn and brands/companies change and I COMMEND you for honestly bringing these to our attention. This in itself could have been a conflict of interest if sponsorship had been accepted for earlier reviews.
You do things your way Rob, you have our support!

Hi Rob I don't have a problem with sponsorship as such, as long as it clearly labelled as an AD - that's all it is, just like the ADs on tv that I scroll through as I record programmes so i can do so. I'm not keen on heavily scripted "reviews" as part of that sponsorship though and feel if the company wants their product promoted, the content creator should be able to use their own words to describe why they like it. I don't think it's a bad product, but it is wildly overpriced in my opinion. It may well be stronger than the alternatives, but is it 10 times stronger?- doubtful tbh. If I was going to try one of those wildly expensive essences it would probably be the green tea one from Amore pacific, as at least it is a far different process to make it. I would never spend that much though, so it's a moot point. I like galactomyces as an ingredient and liked both the Missha and Neogen first essences at around £30 for approx 180mls. The rose in the Iunik didn't work for my skin, though I haven't tried the purito version or the then I met you. Best wishes.

From my experience, I can say that SK-II is a little bit more potent than any other brand that I’ve tried. However, I have to mention that it caused my skin irritation and stinging sensation.
Did it brighten my skin? Yes, it did. Did it hydrate my skin? Not really but it helped to prepare my skin for the next step.
Do you have to spend this huge amount of money on this product? that depends on your budget and preference but remember there are several excellent dupes out there and you can give them a try.

After first hearing about galactomyces and SK-II (and then it's price!) I found a lot of youtubers recommending Secret Key starting treatment essence as a direct dupe. Dr. Drea said that galactomyces also has potential to be beneficial to people suffering from KP. I wanted to try it myself and when I heard that (my daughter has KP) that sealed the deal. Perfect excuse to try something new. That was two years ago and now I HAVE to have a backup bottle (need to order as opened backup bottle this morning). My skin is so hydrated, brighter and almost polished looking after using it. It's available from Stylevana also.

Urgh it has really gotten on my nerves these before and after shenanigans. Usually it’s a blatant use of lighting, the before picture will have side lighting to highlight the texture and then the miraculous after picture will have face on lighting which will blur away the defects. It’s so obvious and annoying. Fed up of the deception and manipulation these days, feel like being led around in a herd all the time.

SKII is huge in east Asia despite the hefty price tag which to some people translates to effectiveness and quality. I used to be part of that demographic till I looked into skin care and its recent development
